Markis shrugs when looking at the potion. I don't have any training that would help figure that out.

He gets ready as Nesipho opens the door.


Bolts of silk cloth and spools of silken thread fill much of the storeroom that Nesipho finds himself peering into. A set of steps with wooden railings in the southeast corner leads down below ground level.

Perception, DC 15:
There is a trapdoor in the ceiling, which unlike in the other room is actually solid, heavy wood and not just open to the bare roof.

Not noticing the trap door Nesipho heads quietly over to the stairs to head to the basement level.

"Hold a moment," Prashant says, glancing up at the ceiling. "Trap door. Let's finish up here before we descend below." He gives the door a test prod with the butt of his spear before opening it.

Nesipho gives a scowl at having missed something that should have been obvious to him. My mind must be on other things...

He looks around for something sturdy to stand on or use to climb up to trap door.
If nothing suitable is found will cast levitate and float up to it.

He takes a moment to listen before pushing it open.
Assuming GM hidden roll for the perception check.


GM stuff:
Nesipho's Perception check: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23

Nesipho hears nothing beyond the doorway, but the trapdoor does not move to his initial effort nor to Prashant's prodding. [ooc]A Strength check might be more useful.

Markis watches the failed attempts, then manifests his horrific batlike wings. [b]With a couple swift beats, he rises up to the ceiling to assist in pushing open the door.

Strength: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Or, maybe not. Grrr.

Did I need to cast levitate? Or was I able to find something stable enough to stand on?

Nesipho grunts, "We'll have to come back to that, but before we make any more noise let's head down."

Taking the point the magus slips quietly down the stairs.
Stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26


No reason we can't take 20 on this. Does a 23 get it, boss?


Actually, there is a reason...

As Prashant makes one more attempt and Nesipho begins heading toward the stairs, there is a scraping noise above and suddenly the trapdoor pops open easily to the cleric's shove.


Prashant steps back a moment as a weight is removed from the trapdoor in the ceiling, and stares at the open portal above. "Do we go in?", he whispers to Nesipho.

Nesipho holds up one finger, in a moment, then circles around from below, trying to see if he can see anything from any angle, while listening closely for more sounds.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17

If he doesn't spot anything he will send his dancing lights through the hole, and follow a few seconds behind them.

Clumsily keeping himself aloft with his large demonic wings, Markis flaps about the room, ready to move up into the trap door or respond with a spell.


The ceiling over this room keeps Nesipho from seeing anything in the space above. His lights illuminate the attic roof, but nothing more.

Still not sure if I needed to use a levitate or not or found something to stand on. Regardless of how I'm getting up there though...

Nesipho cautiously positions himself to get his eye level past the trap door, ready to duck back down at a moments notice, then twists his head side to side to get a good view of the room above.

There are boxes you could use to climb up.

As soon as Nesipho pokes his head above the door, there is a chorus of bowstrings as arrows flash toward him from what seems like every direction.

Fortunately, you have improved cover, given your positioning, for a total of +8 AC.

Arrow attack #1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19, damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 plus 3d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3) = 10 sneak attack and a DC 14 Fortitude save.
Arrow attack #2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21, damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 plus 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 6) = 11 sneak attack and a DC 14 Fortitude save, +2 DC if the first arrow hit.
Arrow attack #3: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20, damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 plus 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 2) = 4 sneak attack and a DC 14 Fortitude save, +2 DC for each previous arrow that hit.
Arrow attack #4: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 plus 1d6 ⇒ 6 electricity.

Once the barrage is over, Nesipho can see its source: three humans with shortbows, crouching in the rafters, and a bird-like humanoid with a longbow, flying in the open space between the rafters - the arrow he has nocked sparks with electricity. Nesipho recognizes this individual as the entity that shot at the group yesterday.
