Nakon the Cruel |
Nakon tries to finish the woman, the brute roaring in frustration as the mist steals what he thinks is his kill. Think I remain out of flag sight. I want to kill painfully whoever cast that mist.
AOO Scimitar vs Sailor: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 18 (mw, ic)

Shipmaster Dave |
Darting into the mist, the officer makes it past Nakon, his blow slashing apart the fog. She hurls herself over the railing and opens into a graceful dive as she hits the water. You catch a brief glimpse of a fin glide under the water nearby.
A moment later (Round 12) Mata lands a solid blow on the last sailor and drops him.
An eerie quiet falls over the ship, broken only by the gentle wash of waves and the groans of the dying.
(Only Mata has acted this round. There appear to be no further combatants.)
Nakon the Cruel |
If anything Nakon's smile goes wider. His scimitar and shield clank as they fall to the deck.
Reaching for a fish scale from his pouch the man mutters a few words before diving over the side after the officer.
Cast touch of the sea
Underwater the man grunts, sending a message only fish can understand.
MY PREY!
Xantrius Casmirre |
Xantrius wasted no time, diving into the water after the woman.
Swim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Hoping to use his move action + dive to get back into melee with her. Will wait for GM to confirm if able to or not.

- Successful Swim check (Xantrius) -2 attack/half damage Slashing or Bludgeoning, quarter speed.
The officer has used her dive to put some distance between herself and the ship.
However, her dive has quickly attracted the attention of a shark that darts through the water and catches up to her. More figures can be dimly seen through the waters, gliding with an easy grace between chunks of flesh, some of which still wear clothes.
Xantrius hits the water and sees the officer making off. He is able to catch up to her about the same time as the shark, but he is not able to attack.
Nakon is slightly behind them as he casts his spell, then drops to the water. His command gurgles through the water. (Make a diplomacy check :-)
The officer seems to ignore Xantrius completely. She pulls her short swords but holds them between her and the shark and makes a low sweeping gesture at the animal.
Xantrius Casmirre |
Non-Lethal Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 1 - 1 = 10
Fighting in the water proved awkward despite the mist no longer getting in his way, and Xantrius failed to strike another blow on the officer.
Shipmaster Dave |
Mata's spell clears the mists away to reveal several bodies scattered across the the deck. Pirates poke cutlasses at defenseless sailors, coaxing prisoners across to the Wormwood, while others check the fallen for signs of life and signs of valuables.
The increased wind fills the ships' sails and the two ships bob and creak against each other causing the decks to sway. One of the sailors loses their footing on the gangplank but pitches onto the deck of the Wormwood at Captain Harrigan's feet.
Harrigan whirls a meaty fist into the face of Peppery Longfarthing, lifting her feet from the deck before she crashes down, spitting teeth.
"I didn't say remove the mist."
She holds her nose to stem the flow of blood as she gets up and looks across the deck straight at Mata before saying, "Wub ye like it back?"
"Don't bother. Prepare the plunder." Harrigan folds his arms and watches as the officers move across the ships, directing pirates to transfer hostages and cargos to the Wormwood.
At the ship's railing, Mata peers down into the blue waters and can just make out the shapes of his companions. Xantrius has caught up with the officer as a large shark bears down on them both. Nearby Nakon hangs effortlessly in the water.

The shark swims straight at the officer, but turns aside at the last moment. Despite the officer's swords and behaviour, however, the shark seemed to respond to Nakon's shout. Instead it darts past the group and turns sharply back again. Now it seems to be heading straight towards Xantrius.
The officer watches the shark go past and only then seems to notice Xantrius also in the water with her. She pulls back and avoids his blow which is slowed by the water. Then she notices Nakon gliding through the water with the speed and grace of the nearby sharks.
(Nakon up, Sevien and Mata can act on deck if they please)
Sevien the Black |
Sevien stops waiting and makes his way to the edge of the ship where he hears his friends. He points to the women in the water and smiles, finally able to bring his talents to bear...
Cast command on the women, Come to me!
DC 13 Willpower Save. The command is approach.
Approach: On its turn, the subject moves toward you as quickly and directly as possible for 1 round. The creature may do nothing but move during its turn, and it provokes attacks of opportunity for this movement as normal.
Xantrius Casmirre |
Xantrius was still determined to take the officer prisoner and ignored the other combatants appearing.
Non-Lethal Hilt Bash: 1d20 + 3 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 1 - 1 = 17
4 Non-Lethal Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9
Shipmaster Dave |
Nakon glides easily behind the officer, his jaws wide, his eyes bright. He can almost smell the officer's fear as she thrashes about the water.
As her head breaks the surface of the water, she gasps for breath and Sevien calls to her with his divine magic.
The officer shakes her head and either doesn't hear or doesn't give in to Sevien's seductive call. Instead, she ignores the rope that Mata has easily found and tossed amongst the group and she thrusts the two swords through the water at the newly arrived Nakon, either too scared to face Xantrius, or content to leave him to the shark.

short sword (shaken): 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 2 = 18
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Her skill with the weapons is evident, but Nakon's natural affinity for the water allows him to dodge aside the first blow. The other catches him unawares and, without his shield or sharkskin, the blow cuts across his chest sending blood billowing cloud-like into the water (5 damage). Nakon's teeth, however, flash dangerously in the dappled sunlight through the waves.

- Shaken (Officer) –2 attack, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks
- Flanking +2 attack (Nakon and Xantrius vs officer - have assumed Nakon easily moves to appropriate position)
Ignoring Nakon and his prey, the shark decides it has waited long enough and tears at Xantrius.
bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Xantrius ducks under creature as it does so and easily avoids the leisurely bite.
Xantrius continues to focus on the officer, and this time his blow makes contact, though the water pulls much of the force of the blow. (Assume +2 for flanking cancels -2 for bludgeoning) The officer grunts, but manages to hold onto consciousness.
Atop decks, Sevien and Xantrius' hostage is called over by Riaris and pointed aboard the Wormwood. One or two pirates gather with Mata and Sevien at the railing looking over the side.
(Nakon up. Sevien and Mata still watching from decks.)
Xantrius Casmirre |

AC16. If Nakon knocks out the officer with damage before Xantrius' action, redirect to shark. Either way, grabbing onto her with move action.
Someone throw a rope, by Besmara's t$&@!
Damage is still slashing even with hilt bash and i'm taking the underwater penalties into account with my rolls already. Its only a -1 penalty to attack because Xantrius has the Touched By The Sea trait.
Shipmaster Dave |
Nakon's teeth sink into the woman's shoulder. A crack resonates through the water and she goes limp as her blood explodes gently into the sea. Nakon pulls back, tearing at the flesh and he can taste the fresh meat in his mouth.
Xantrius slips an arm around the unconscious woman, and drives his sword deep into the shark beside him. The blade slides through the shark's leathery tough hide and its blood flows freely from the cut, mixing with the blood of the officer. The currents dilute the pink clouds and sweep them into the blue of the ocean, where more grey figures lurk in the distance.

- Successful Swim check (Xantrius) -2 attack/half damage Slashing or Bludgeoning, quarter speed
The filleted shark pulls away from Xantrius, wary of the cold steel. It's leisurely pace seems more cautious now and it chooses its timing. It whips its head around to reveal to Xantrius a gaping maw of needle sharp teeth, already stained with blood from an earlier meal.
bite (shaken): 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 5 - 2 = 17
damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
With the officer in one arm, his sword in the other and the ocean swallowing him, there's little Xantrius can do as the beast tears at his thigh. Xantrius feels vaguely surreal as he watches gobbetts of his own flesh slowly drift off into the water.
Mata/Obsidian |
Mata readies to pull up the rope "Grab the rope I'll pull you up."
Sorry about previous post it is horrible I was trying to write from my phone and stuffed it up. Well done to Xantrius for understanding what I meant.
Nakon Sharkman |
Sevien will change his firebolt attack to the shark for the moment using the roll above if it is in range. If you want me to re-roll let me know.
I recall something about extra checks to make fire spells even work underwater you might want to take a look.
Edit: Yeah Underwater Combat. Improved cover, firing into melee, caster level checks, its all bad.The -8 just to hit something treading water from land is one to remember.
Mata/Obsidian |
With the battle over Mata pauses for a moment to prepare some self. Prescience: 1d20 ⇒ 2 1/5 remaining
Mata starts to pull in and up Xantrius and the strange woman.
Strength: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 not using the prescience roll
Shipmaster Dave |
Nakon turns upon the shark, gliding elegantly in behind it and tearing at its meaty flank. Large chunks of white flesh are ripped free revealing the cartilage below but the beast wriggles free from Nakon's maw and turns to confront its attacker.
Xantrius grabs the rope awkwardly, trying to hold up both himself and the deadweight body of the officer as Mata and Sevien haul on the rope. (Strength rolls Sevien and Xantrius thanx)
Despite the easy prey beside it, the shark seems distracted by the near loss of its tail and instead it struggles around and turns its deadly teeth back upon Nakon.
Shipmaster Dave |
Strength for Xantrius: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 (When your character is not in immediate danger or distracted, you may choose to take 10.)
Hands slippery with blood and water, holding the armoured body of the officer and his flag, Xantrius is unable to get enough grip on the rope to hoist himself and the officer up and the rope burns through his hands as Mata and Sevien pull on it.

The shark lunges forward at Nakon. It's the law of the wild, kill or be killed and it isn't like sharks never attack their own. Whatever kinship it had with the great man vanishes as the blood calls to its endless hunger. And perhaps there is some fear there as well that its recent lunch may not have been free.
bite (shaken): 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 - 2 = 10
damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Nakon manages to slip under the creature as it glides past, its agility apparently lessened by the chunk from its tail.
Nearby, one of the grey shapes loses interest in its boot and peels away towards the smell of fresh blood. It crosses the distance quickly and in no time another shark is circling Nakon and Xantrius.
Shipmaster Dave |
The new shark seems content with the carcass of it's friend for now as Nakon backs towards the rope keeping himself between the shark and Xantrius.
Despite his hands slippery with blood and water and holding the waterlogged body of the officer and his flag, Xantrius is able to wrap the rope around his arm and grits his teeth at the pain as he and the officer are hauled aboard by Mata. The officer slips from his grasp at the last moment, but fortunately only has a short drop to the deck of the ship as Xantrius himself is deposited on board.
Out of the water, the blood from Xantrius and the officer seems to ooze out of them even faster.
Sevien the Black |
If Sevien sees the captain or an officer around he shows the prisoners to him/her.
Prisoners Sir! I believe this one may be an officer or someone of import. pointing to the women.
We have tended to her to make sure she lives. Do you wish me and Sandara to check the other prisoners for life and stop them from dying or let them go?
