Sheik Voodoo |
This is our old bard companion Faelar andhis lovely wifeAlmah, the ruler of Kelmarane. Do you have any healing that might cure them, or at least alleviate their pain until we can find magic to heal their wounds?
Qilue is Faelar's wife. The halfling that you rescues from the Brass Tower. I never really got the elf-halfling thing. but hey, different strokes.
Varkata Steeleye |
Varkata looks at them and nods, drawing in power and releasing a wave to heal everyone...
Channel: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 2, 6) = 15
Sheik Voodoo |
Varkata's healing round has no effect on the undead mewing hungrily in the cages and unfortunately, has no effect on the disease that has brought Almah and Faelar low.
Karethas ibn Faradin |
Karethas fumbles in his haversack, tears rolling down his cheeks. He finally pulls a potion out, "I have one of these. It's a potion to cure diseases...but I only have one." Karethas shakes his head, clearing his head. "Amir, open their cages!" He rushes forward to offer Almah the potion, figuring she is less able to endure the consequences of the sickness. "Where are Qilue and Garavel?"
Sheik Voodoo |
Almah takes the potion and drinks after sighing with concern over Faelar's fate. She continues to tremble, but she feels cooler to the touch as if her fever has broken. She will need some time to recover from the disease's effects.
"We do not know what happened to Qilue. She was not taken with us. Poor Faelar." She was captured later- Reminder: you rescued Qilue from the Brass Tower.
"Garavel," she chokes up. "Brave and loyal Garavel. The Pactmaster's Favor protected him from Undra's... powers. But not her wrath. There," she cries turning her head from the animate flesh on the table. "That is what remains of Garvel!"
"The div seduced and defiled us and when she quickly grew tired turned the diseased broken wrecks over to her foul consort, the undead Shaitan lord. Those fortunate enough to die did not escape, but rose again as these pitiful creatures yet caged around us to torment us with out ultimate fate."
"To think that I once befriended Undra and defended her not knowing what she was. She tries to cry though she has no more tears. "Water, please. How did you find us? Where are our tormentors?"
Kzrira Maiwith |
Heal: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
--> Ah, another great use of a natural 20. Does Kzrira know how long they can last? Would we be able to rest and regain some spells?
A nasty version of a disease common among those who practice the oldest profession, figures that Undra would revel in seeing others afflicted with it.
Faelar is unconscious now. Perhaps we could teleport them to a temple if we do not have the magic to cure them. For Garavel, we know that there is magic to cure him, whether we can obtain it, I do not know.
Varkata Steeleye |
Varkata asks, "Karethas, are we safe within this.... wherever this is? If so, I can ask Cayden Cailean to grant me the ability to cure the disease tomorrow."
In the interim, I can also treat disease (via Heal Skill)
She pauses, unsure if she should continue, then sighs, "The flesh on the table is animated, which is to say, that Garvel is dead. The best we can do is to stop this perversion of life.... and, then, gods willing, have him raised."
Karethas ibn Faradin |
Karethas gags a bit when he realizes the figure is Garvel, but steels himself and looks back at Varkata. "Do what you must. He would not want his body to be kept like this. Turning to include the others, "Here is the rub though. We cannot just hold up, rest, and relearn our spells. Nefeshti and her allies are providing a distraction and this may be our only chance to defeat Jhavhul and his efreeti. We must seize the opportunity." He considers for a moment, "I can summon the hound archon a final time and give the bottle to him. He can teleport to the Lambent Citadel in Solku and release Almah and Faelar there to be healed. He cannot teleport people, but the bottle is within his ability to teleport. It would be my last powerful summoning spell of the day though."
Kzrira Maiwith |
Kzrira looks at Karethas.
But, does time pass the same her as outside the bottle? Remember the last plane we were sucked onto did not follow the same time pattern as Katapesh. Perhaps time passes slower in here.
She then looks to Almah:
Do you know how long you have been here? How many days ago do you think that you were taken prisoner?
Sheik Voodoo |
"I don't know. It feels like so long, but I don't think it has been a month."
Varkata does what she can to make Faelar more comfortable while Kzrira turns her attention to scavenging equipment for the battle ahead. She finds that the harpy archer has a magical bow and amulet. Umad has a magical breastplate and ring. There is nothing else to be found except for four large, magical jewels on the throne.
Almah just shakes her head. "Anything that we had of value was tossed in the fountain of dust."
Varkata Steeleye |
Varkata says, "Have you enough magic left to face Jhavhul, Karethas? Mine is largely spent -- and, to be fair, I think we need to figure out how to escape the bottle. Besides, Kzrira may be right about time."
Kzrira Maiwith |
Kzrira picks up the bow and looks at it.
Karethas, any clue what these are? Is this bow better than the one I bought in Katapesh?
Kzrira then looks at the others:
I agree we need to move with speed. However, if we all die because we are unprepared, then it is all for naught.
Varkata Steeleye |
Varkata shrugs, "Only if we had a way of knowing when they were captured.... Unless there's a way to do it by magic... But if so, I don't know it."
Sheik Voodoo |
Almah estimate of time trapped in the bottle seems close to how long it has been outside. There doesn't appear to be a significant difference in time inside. As for exiting the place, likely the portal you entered through works both ways especially since the ghul no longer exists to prevent an exit.
The genie battle likely still rages above the House of the Beast so you may not have time to sleep, but you do have time to carefully inspect the bottle to find weapons that might assist you against Jhavhul.
Karethas ibn Faradin |
"I have tried to use my spells judiciously, so I have several that I think may be useful against Jhavhul and any allies in his presence. We just need to make it to him without too many more draining encounters. Kzrira and Varkata, why don't you cast Detect Magic and look around this space with Amir. You might find more useful resources for the final battle. I will take the time to examine the items we have found so far. Once we are ready, we can leave the bottle and I will summon the Archon to get Almah and Faelar to safety. Almah, within a few minutes of us leaving, a great hound headed archon will come to help get Faelar out of the bottle. You should be at the Lambent Citadel. Mention our names and beg healing for Faelar." He hands her his pouch, "Here is nearly 100 platinum pieces to donate for the services. That should be plenty."

Karethas will also recall Vanish using a Pearl of Power.
Varkata Steeleye |
Varkata nods, "We'll see what we can find... Maybe there are some scrolls or potions to assist us."
Detect Magic..
Kzrira Maiwith |
Likewise, Kzrira uses her limited ability to see magical aura to check around and see what else might be about the area.
Cast Detect Magic
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
Sheik Voodoo |
pfft. I guess that I'll take the first round of rolls ;P
Karethas spends awhile judging the auras he sees. The bow is a +2 frost bow. The Amulet is unknown. The breastplate is +2. The ring is a ring of major fire resistance (20). The gems are red, blue, brown, and clear being elemental gems of fire, water, earth and air.
so where are Varkata and Kzrira looking specifically?
Kzrira Maiwith |
Kzrira will search around the throne. Not sure what else there is to search around here as from your description, there does not seem much else. Is there anything in the pool of sand?
Kzrira's eyes open as she sees the bow and Karethas describes its magic.
Very nice. Much better than the one I have been using. In addition, it should be very effective against fire creatures who tend to not like cold.
Varkata Steeleye |
If Kzrira is looking at the throne, then Varkata would start with the dust pool..
Sheik Voodoo |
Magical sight would not penetrate the stone throne or dust so Kzrira and Varkata are forced to explore with mundane means. Kzrira finds that the throne hides nothing of value once the elemental gems were removed. Varkata finds that the pool of black dust is not so deep, but difficult to sift through. Nonetheless, she finds some gold and silver coins. 15 gold, 40 silver
Karethas ibn Faradin |
Karethas goes over each of the items carefully, but he keeps coming back to the amulet. Finally he sighs, "Varkata or Kzrira, you might want to look over this amulet. I just can't seem to discern it's purpose and you might notice something that is eluding me."
I believe Amir has the weakest fire resistance currently, although I did not look back to check that. So he should get the ring, and Kzrira obviously should get the bow. I don't believe the breastplate would be an improvement for anyone. If no one objects, Karethas will hold onto the gems to use as we need for upcoming battles. The earth elemental is a big tank, the air is good for controlling medium sized opponents, the fire is good against creatures vulnerable to fire, and the water is useful if we are ever in a water environment again (Would have been useful in Kakishon.).
Kzrira Maiwith |
Kzrira looks at the amulet and scratches her head.
Doubt I can discern anything that you have not already, but worth a try.
Cast Detect Magic
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Varkata Steeleye |
I assumed I'd be digging while detecting, no worries.
Spellcraft (Amulet): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Sheik Voodoo |
yep, digging first and percep checks, but I'll just throw something else in for now
Varkata looks up to peer at the amulet, but has nothing more to offer. Her continued digging turns up another item: a string of Sareaenite prayer beads.
Kzrira Maiwith |
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Kzrira looks at the new prayer beads. Immediately recognizing them from a similar set an old priest she knew years ago had, she explains what they do.
Varkata - feel free to read the spoiler above, they are a cleric item.
I would not mind having the amulet. Kzrira does not have any natural armor yet.
Varkata Steeleye |
It's a low caster level, but I could use them to try to cure disease our friends..
Karethas ibn Faradin |
Karethas considers their situation for a moment, "We are going to get them to safety using the archon anyway, and the Citadel is as good of place to send them as any. I say save the beads in case we need them later. If everyone is happy with the items, then we should probably get moving."[b] Turning to Almah, [b]"When we exit, give it two minutes and exit yourself. I will summon the archon, have him teleport you to the citadel and then have him return to us, just in case we can use his services. Hold onto the bottle, if we don't return sell it and use the proceeds to rebuild Kelemarane."

Varkata Steeleye |
Can we destroy them safely from outside the cages?
Kzrira Maiwith |
Kzrira looks at the caged undead.
Interesting that they keep this undead caged. Makes you wonder who it was previously. Perhaps if we leave it in the cage, we can raise or cure it of its undeath. In all likelihood, this was once a good member of Kelmarane.
If they are locked in the cage in the bottle, there seems to be no reason to destroy the creature at this point. We can always destroy it later.
Varkata Steeleye |
Varkata says, "Quite likely, but undeath only makes it harder to restore them to life... Assuming we can find the means to do it."
Varkata Steeleye |
Varkata nods, sadly, "Very well."
Sheik Voodoo |
The ghouls are dealt with and the palace within a bottle is safe again. Karethas' plan is followed and after passing through the quicksilver portal, the Heroes are once again in the overwhelming heat at the heart of Pale Mountain. The Archon is summoned and with a low bow to the Heroes, he teleports away with the bottle to seek healing for the inhabitants at the far Citadel of Sarenrae in Solku leaving the adventurers to once again survey their location...
Jeweled tiles cover the floor of the extravagantly decorated chamber. Blazing torches, candelabras, lanterns and braziers spread throughout the room join the soft glow of the river of lava that bisects the chamber from west to east flowing through high tunnels. The party stands at the pavilion at the north end of the room. It is formed by black silk hangings strung between four engraved columns and filled with pillows and cushions that once couched the large black glass bottle.
how about we post our fire resistance in our icon descriptions for ease of my tracking?
Amir Awad Hajjir |
Is it possible to try to use UMD to discern the "other" ability of the amulet? I'm not sure how judicious you want to be in the rogue just "trying" it... UMD: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16 Meh. I also noted my current "5" resistance to fire.
Kzrira Maiwith |
Kzrira does not have any resistance normally. She has Resist 5 if there is an elemental close by, to whatever elemental is closest. -- Amulet of Elemental Strife
I am not sure if she has any spells in effect right now.
Karethas ibn Faradin |
Varkata and Kzrira were covered by Varkata's Communal Resist Energy Spell for 80 minutes, so Fire 20 at 9th level. I have 2 Endure Elements scrolls, if needed. My Planar Adaptation is noted above.
Amir Awad Hajjir |
AS the most liekly party "in the face" of something that burns should I wear it and give the gem to Kzrira for at least a backup when spells go down? Otherwise are we ready to leave?
Sheik Voodoo |
Amir puts on the ring and protected from the infernal heat, the Heroes cotinue their mission to defeat the evil Efreeti Lord. The river of lave flows from the west and through the room. Karethas and Varkata once again sense the wild magic presence of the Wishwarp and with that, Varkata also sense great evil toward the heart of the volcano.
