Hi folks, circumstances in my career and personal life have opened up (finally) to allow me the time to run a game on these forums once more!
I'd love to have a crack at GMing the newest AP...Shattered Star. It looks like something of a back-to-basics approach, and that appeals to me.
For now, I want only expressions of potential player interest. To be honest, I haven't even yet worked out how I'll select my players. I may go first come first served, may choose based on prior pbp experience, or may even do a random selection. In any case, I don't prefer any character concepts now, because I'd rather select players first, and then create characters collaboratively. So no great time commitment required yet, just throw your hat in the ring. I'll mull things over for the next 2-3 days, and we'll go from there. Downloading and having a glance at the player's guide would probably be helpful, though.
It sounds interesting. New to Pathfinder and the pbp but I have the time to commit and haven't played any adventure paths. Just started in RotR on these boards.
Well, the campaign does assume that the PCs are Pathfinders, as detailed in the players guide. However, if you're asking whether this game will be officially sanctioned for Pathfinder Society organized play, the answer is no.

Would you be following the same rules as a PFS game? In not, I would be interested in this game.
I am interested. I have done a lot of play by post, but not so much on the Paizo boards, but as I don't have the new AP yet (and do not plan on getting it anytime soon) then it would be nice to play before I get it to GM.
Got lucky getting first post. I want to say that it seems great but started thinking if had any questions. Will not having played through any of the adventure paths be bad?
I am thinking this will be great fun. I am saying glad not following PFS as that is really my only option to play and so pretty much play basic humans. Don't know much about the AP but will there be chances for roleplaying or is it more of a heavy action AP?

No, there certainly is no requirement that you've played (or even have familiarity with) prior Adventure Paths.
I'd say it appears that there should be a nice mix between action and role-playing.
It is with some hesitation that I butt my head in here and put up a combination challenge and question to Cry Havoc with respect to his track record on these forums on starting PbP games as a DM and then abandoning them either immediately after they start or in some cases before a gameplay thread goes live.
I am not trying to start a flame war or anything of the sort, and would welcome Cry Havoc! to the DM community here if circumstances will be different for this PbP... but forewarned is forearmed and I just wanted to share with some of the posters that are a little newer to the site and may not be aware of his track record.
Fair point, Mark. I have no problem with you raising the issue.
The reasons for my track record are complex and personal, and I don't really feel that going into great detail will be beneficial. I will say that these things stem primarily from my struggles with depression, among other medical issues. Clearly, every time I've tried to run a game in the past, it has not been successful, but that doesn't deter me from wanting to try again. Maybe this will be the time I succeed.
In any case, please know that I love fantasy role-playing games just like the rest of you, and I sincerely would love nothing more than to GM a fun and exciting, long-running pbp game. That said, if my history leads anyone to change his/her mind about wanting to be in this game, there will be no hard feelings whatsoever. Thanks.
Cry Havoc! - thanks for the measured response and believe me when I say that hopefully it works out well for both yourself and those that might still be up for gaming with you.
With so many people interested already, I may close recruitment as soon as tomorrow. Definitely not sooner, though, because I want to give at least one full day for those interested to reply. Still, it's nice to see so many folks who would like to play. :)
Yowza, 25 people interested, and I'll probably only be able to accommodate six! You know what, let's just cap this thing off now, so as to not break any more hearts. Recruitment closed.
I do want to say thank you to each one of you for your interest and support.
I also want to say to any other potential Shattered Star GMs out there...what are you waiting for? Lots of people who'd love to play around here!
So now I begin the difficult process of determining who my players will be...pleas, bribes and other forms of coercion are welcome. ;)
From what I gathered is that Cry Havoc wants to make player selection then do a collaborative character building process so the group meshes together from the beginning. I am not sure that having a set concept will be entirely helpful to the selection process but I could be wrong.
Well here is some details about the kind of player I am and the kinds of PCs I like to play.
The Player: A 30 something PBP veteran. Cut my teeth playing AD&D and have continued to game off and on for ~15-20 years, as both player and DM. For PBP, I prefer to keep my posts short and to the point and prefer playing with those who do the same. I never read walls of text posted by anyone other than the DM. I never have inner monologue, have no interest in hogging the focus, enjoy group focused story building and feel that extensive backstories serve no purpose other than to provide hooks for the DM. I spend entirely too much time checking these boards and can post multiple times a day if need be.
Combat:Prefer map based combat, as things like reach and AOO are pretty dependant on a good spacial representation of what is going on, but played for years without them. Prefer individual initiative over group initiative and love it when DM's recaps each round before the next one starts.
Types of Characters: I prefer melee and divine spell casting classes, but do have an unhealthy affection for gnomish bards. Always play Neural or Good characters, have no interest in playing with Evil PC's. My PC's are always good natured and a little mercenary, and I like my dwarves gruff and my gnomes completely ridiculous.
Nothing further is needed, folks, I think I've got this nailed down. I will confess that I was preferential toward some familiar names whom I knew to have lots of pbp experience around here. Others I took because I searched through some posting history and enjoyed what I read from them (one story in particular about 'wight dwarves' I found quite funny...you know who you are!)
Thus, I'd like to give first dibs to:
Aardvark Barbarian
Tiessa
Ridge
Arknight
Camris
French Wolf
I've one or two other names in mind as alternate picks, so if anyone has had a change of heart, please do let me know. Otherwise, see you on the discussion thread.
For those not selected, my thanks again for your time and interest. All the best to you.
