Paizo's eleventh Adventure Path

1 to 50 of 126 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | 3 | next > last >>

Welcome players, let us now begin the discussion of character ideas! I'd love to hear your thoughts.

We'll be using a 20 point buy for ability scores.

Most Paizo published material is on the table for your use, although I dislike Summoners and would prefer not to GM one. I'm not crazy about the idea of Ninja or Samurai in this campaign, but if you really, really want to play one you might be able to talk me into it. If you are interested in a highly unusual race, please check with me first. Finally (at least until I remember something else), I'd prefer if all of the PCs were of a relatively good-ish alignment (or at least must be willing to play nicely with others).

Please do also keep in mind the fact that you're all going to start out as members or associates of the Pathfinder Society. See the Campaign Traits in the Players Guide for background inspiration, although I'm not going to insist that you choose one if none catch your fancy.

In any case, each PC may begin with two traits from different categories. One of these may be a campaign trait, but again, it's not mandatory.

I should also mention that the PDF download for the adventure has been pushed back to August 23rd, sadly, so we've got a full week to get characters hammered out.

Well, I can tell you at the start I'm more in the mood for a spellcaster class, be it divine or arcane. Beyond that, I'm not too fussy. :)

Right now, I'm thinking Oracle of Lore, Cleric of Calistria (The goddess of lust, revenge, and trickery has Knowledge as a domain? Who knew?) or a wizard who graduated from the Stone of Seers. If anyone else has a cleric, oracle, or wizard idea they're dying to play let me know and I'll scratch it off my list

Mixed Umm, Aardvark.. DUH! Barbarian 8/ Senator 2/ Pope 5

I love me a rogue, and can't seem to get to play one. I would like to be a knife master, maybe Human.

Oh, another question, what will we be using for starting wealth?

Average, per class.

Are you sure? I have mine in my list of downloads.

Do you have any compunctions about players playing cross-gender? I like the idea of being a gypsy woman (the character on the Player's Guide cover jumped out at me). I don't over-sexualize them, and I don't Fauxlita.

If it helps, here are links to the two other females I play
Delia
Angelica

I mainly ask, as a lead in to my second question, how do you feel about changelings? Sadly, last one I played the campaign didn't get far (see Angelica).

Alas, you are a subscriber while I currently am not. I have to wait until street date to download mine.

That's not a problem for me, and neither are changelings.

Female Changeling "Varisian" Burglar 4/Fighter 2 (AC: 20 [T: 14 /F: 16] (+2 vs Traps); HP: 49/49; F+4, R+7 (+2 vs traps), W+1 (+2 vs Illusions/Fear); Init: +3; Perc: +16 [+18/+20], 60' darkvision)

Retooling this older profile to use for my character concept, just because it was originally a changeling and had become an unused profile.

Just need to do background and equipment and she's done.

The Exchange

Hi everyone. I am currently on route to the Channel Islands for 10 days. Thinking druid or bard to compliment the main spellcasters. Will detail more laater when I find out what you all want to play. Cheers

Sounds like I better go ahead and pick a concept then so we don't have folks waiting around.

Something I've been wanting to run is a Staff Magus. Anyone have anything like that in mind already? If not, that's what I'll plan on :)

Arknight wrote:

I'm not the DM, but I'd say go for it. Want me to drop the wizard from consideration and lean towards Oracle or Cleric? I'm not too familiar with the Magus class so I don't know how much it would overlap

Male Human

I'm inclined to play a Paladin or Cavalier.
A knight of Taldor, exiled for politics; now making a living escorting caravans up and down dangerous roadways...

Male Halfling Transmuter5

Just like Sir Manfred. Last Baron's Tower was a while ago. Can my halfling transmuter have that potion of enlarge person back?

It's good to see you. And I'd love to see you play a knight again.

Cheers

So what do we have so far, perhaps?

Aardvark Barbarian - human rogue (knife master)
Ridge - oracle or cleric
Camris - knight (cavalier/paladin)
Frenchwolf - druid or bard
Tiessa - ?
Arknight - ?

My preference would be to play a druid with an animal companion, still looking at the archetypes. Maybe a worldwalker. But I am happy either way. Waiting to hear from the others but it looks good so far.

Cheers

Sounds fine to me!

Well, Oracle, Cleric, or Wizard but with a Magus among us the last may not be needed :)

EDIT

Aardvark Barbarian - human rogue (knife master)
Ridge - oracle or cleric (or wizard)
Camris - knight (cavalier/paladin)
Frenchwolf - druid or bard
Arknight - Staff magus
Tiessa - ?

Female Changeling "Varisian" Burglar 4/Fighter 2 (AC: 20 [T: 14 /F: 16] (+2 vs Traps); HP: 49/49; F+4, R+7 (+2 vs traps), W+1 (+2 vs Illusions/Fear); Init: +3; Perc: +16 [+18/+20], 60' darkvision)

This is Aardvark

I'm playing a Changeling Rogue (burglar)

With this being an old school type of adventure, it was one of the few archetypes that didn't get rid of trapfinding (which the PG said would be useful). It still fits the background idea I had.

Ok, I'm planning on a Staff Magus with an interest in the old Thassilonian empire. A fondness for Artifacts, ruins and such, and any knowledge related to it. His mother was bodyguard to this father, a wizard, and he managed to blend their two trainings.

Good call, Aardvark, I'm confident you guys will want that trapfinding!

Things are shaping up nicely, hopefully we'll hear from Tiessa soon. (Thanks for the running summary, French Wolf. Hope you enjoy your holiday!)

Male Human Cavalier L1-- AC 18-(T10-F18) | hp 13/13| F4, R0, W2 | Init+0 | Percep +0 | Status: OK

Camris here.
Ah, yes. Sir Manfred. Perhaps he'll do.
No potions to return I'm afraid Master Ashe.
May have to shave a couple points...

Since you opened the door I'll jump in with both feet.

The journey had its moments. Daughter sick in car, car door hit by old motorist as he passed me cleaning up said mess (all within 15 minutes of home) and then the Channel ferry turned into a test of everyone's stomach control. One which my son and I failed our Fort saves, but then all the passengers were struggling. Worst sailing I've done, so lets hope the return journey is better.

Now we are here in my architect brother-in-law's dream house things are looking up.

I mulled over the druid and bard ideas and came up with dwarven or human wolf shaman druid (probably with the travel domain). There are some great general traits in the guide, but I could go Tracker of the Society as a bonus.

Is a full wizard vital? With six of us and at least three spellcasters (including a magus), I'd guess not. Anyway I could eventually go mystic theurge if it becomes necessary.

By the way, today is my tenth wedding anniversary so I shouldn't be posting much today.

Cheers

Happy Anniversary, FW!

I'd guess you guys will be okay without a full wizard. I like where you're heading with your druid idea.

Also, I'd say the sixth PC should probably be something with a bit more of a martial bent. I'll give Tiessa another day or so, and if we still haven't heard anything I'll look for an alternate.

Male Dwarf Wizard (Abjurer)-9 (Mythic Archmage 2)(Current HP 54/62)

Ok. I didn't pick a second trait yet as Hero Lab doesn't have the Player's Guide info in it yet. I hope I'll be allowed to slip one in later if it becomes available and one turns out to fit.

But I decided to dust off an old handle from a game that got abandoned, revamp him into a cleric of Cayden Cailean. I was considering Calistria, but she has a 'mean streak' and I figured a follower of the drunken god might be more party friendly and more of a good guy.

By the way, I'm digging how a couple of you are showing essential stats at a glance in your alias headers. I'd love it if all of you would be able to do so.

The group is shaping up well!

Would it be possible to reflavor the Tomb Raider faction trait to be one of exploring and searching for Thasslonian ruins instead of Osirion ruins? It would kind of fit my concept that way. :)

Female Changeling "Varisian" Burglar 4/Fighter 2 (AC: 20 [T: 14 /F: 16] (+2 vs Traps); HP: 49/49; F+4, R+7 (+2 vs traps), W+1 (+2 vs Illusions/Fear); Init: +3; Perc: +16 [+18/+20], 60' darkvision)

just rolling height and weight, mainly just because I like to.

1d4 ⇒ 1
2d4 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5

Wow, changelings are tiny little things. She's a total 4' 7" 90 lbs

I also added the stats above as requested.

Female Scientist 5/ Party Girl 5/ Geek 5

My laptops cable broke Wednesday night and I finally got a replacement today, sorry about being tardy to the party. Ill look over everything and comment further when I get back from work in a few hours. Thanks for picking me!

Half-orc Wolf Shaman 2, Init +2, AC 19/17, hits 17/25, F+5 R+3 W+5, Perception +8

And Granlor is very much work in progress.

Cheers

Female Scientist 5/ Party Girl 5/ Geek 5

To summarize again:
Angelica Nenaviste - changeling rogue (burglar)
Pakak - half-orc cleric
Granlor Ebonolith - dwarven wolf shaman
Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg - human cavalier
Arknight - Staff magus

Tiessa - ?

It looks like we have all the standard bases covered, fighter, cleric, rogue, and mage. We even have a druid, my usual backup concept covered. Maybe I'll play a bard and aim for the Pathfinder prestige class. I've never played a bard before. Let me look over a few options and see what I can come up with.

Female Changeling "Varisian" Burglar 4/Fighter 2 (AC: 20 [T: 14 /F: 16] (+2 vs Traps); HP: 49/49; F+4, R+7 (+2 vs traps), W+1 (+2 vs Illusions/Fear); Init: +3; Perc: +16 [+18/+20], 60' darkvision)

I've always kind of enjoyed bards. I think they can be real fun, and in PbP, where you have a little more time to get creative it's easier to RP their performance type.

As a side note, I consider the feat Lingering Performance to be a phenomenal addition to any bard.

We had a campaign once where I played the bard, and focused entirely on bardic music. Just because of the +1/+1 from Inspire Courage, he effectively did the most damage in the party. Granted, we counted the damage of any hit that would have missed without the bard +1, as his damage since it wouldn't have been done if it weren't for the song.

Sorry, got a little soapboxy there, you'd be surprised how many people disregard the bard, despite how much they bring to the table. Then again, I'm no winner of DPR olympics when it comes to optimizing.

Female Scientist 5/ Party Girl 5/ Geek 5

I'm definitely not doing the Pathfinder Chronicler as a prestige class - you don't increase your spell casting at all with it -.-

Right now I'm leaning to bard or witch. I've never played a class in the Advanced Player's Guide before.

*scurries back to poring over books*

Commence reflavoring! I think that's a great idea.

Glad to see you made it! No worries, I won't have the adventure until next Thursday it seems.

Half-orc Wolf Shaman 2, Init +2, AC 19/17, hits 17/25, F+5 R+3 W+5, Perception +8

Love bards. Love them. It would give us access to enchantment and illusion magic - not sure our magus has much of that.

Might I recommend the arcane duellist in the APG, perhaps coupled with becoming an archer bard. It would boost our combat power and stays at the back which is a great place to play some tunes.

I've pretty much done with Granlor's role in my head and see him as a second string warrior, maybe with a longspear or a trippy sickle (since a wolf shaman can do that for free). Dwarf may become half-orc depending with the weapon.

May stick with the travel domain because its one of my favourites.

Skills will include Handle Animal, Perception, Survival, Knowledge (geography) and Knowledge (nature). I'll pick up all the other class skills over a few levels. But these seem the most wolfish.

Cheers

Still have the fluff (background, personality and description) and equipment but Ulfak is shaping up nicely. Its all on the alias profile.

He is very much a combat character. With spells.

Cheers

Female Scientist 5/ Party Girl 5/ Geek 5

Okay, I went over all of the bard stuff, the archetypes, the masterpieces, etc. and I remember why I've never played one - Ive never really been motivated by a concept or a set of abilities i like. I've had players who've done awesome bards before and I love the class in my campaigns, but I just don't get excited about playing one.

My current freeform thoughts revolve around using the Varisia specific things in the rules since were already here :) I'm thinking of the ejected noble campaign trait, then going to wander with the fortune tellers, and then joining the pathfinders. I'm thinking of either a Varisian tattooed sorcerer or a thassilonian specialist wizard either of which with some of the harrowing related material thrown in. Now to figure out why I as exiled from magnimar and see how that guides the character creation.

Yes, I do a sort of random association, freeform character creation where I look at campaign backgrounds, classes, races, etc and see what jumps out at me and what combos start to build a character history for me. I try to fit it all together and produce the crunch from that.

I started from the exiled noble campaign trait as the one I liked the best, then started to see which area related stuff would support that. Also, looking at the characters already here, I see a tank, two half-tanks, a cleric, and a rogue. A full on wizard does make sense, but then I saw the tattooed sorcerer :) never liked it before but now it's seeming like a good fit.

I'm off to do more character doodling in my head...

Excellent progress, I am enjoying seeing how things are coming along.

Male Dwarf Wizard (Abjurer)-9 (Mythic Archmage 2)(Current HP 54/62)

I think Pakak is pretty much ready to go as is. Let me know if there's something I'm neglecting

Pakak wrote:

Ridge, I plugged Pakak into Hero Lab, and I think he looks great (aside from the aforementioned missing second trait). He's ready to get started, as far I'm concerned. You can add the second trait later.

Does anyone else have a completed sheet for my review?

Well folks, I bit the bullet and re-subscribed to the Pathfinder AP line. That means I'll be able to download the PDF of the adventure as soon as my order ships. So perhaps I may have it earlier this week than Thursday (assuming the warehouse staff isn't too wiped out from GenCon.)

Half-orc Wolf Shaman 2, Init +2, AC 19/17, hits 17/25, F+5 R+3 W+5, Perception +8

Ulfak is ready for muster.

Angelica should be ready to go, I just need to update her flavor text (Appearance/Background).

Female Scientist 5/ Party Girl 5/ Geek 5

I'll get mine in tomorrow.

FW, some comments about Ulfak...

Spoiler:
He seems to have a couple of extra feats listed. Also, I think you shorted him one point in his AC (Hide is +4 alone, so I think the trait bonus has not been included.)

Having said that, however, I think also he is ineligible technically for either of the traits you selected. Defender of the Society requires Fighter class, Wolf Cub is supposed to be for goblins (more specifically, goblin followers of Zarondel). That said, I would probably house rule that he could keep either or both of the traits, especially wolf cub, as it seems to fit him perfectly. I raise the issue just in case the technicality is of interest to you.
