Exactly that! I'm pretty sure that a 13 should have hit the prone, unconscious Teldon, so he should now be conscious and at 7 hp.

I have taken the liberty of moving Arsith's, Shadlah's, and Biranna's tokens to reflect their actions. Their positions will matter to Zee's next action.

As Teldon, stirring from unconsciousness, moves behind the cover provided by Aristh it is down to the priestess and Joanna to keep 'Sorshen' engaged in melee... for as long as she is trapped in a bloody fight with sharpened steel, her magicks are less of an advantage. This time it is Joanna, her sword slicing through the fiend's defences with ease, that draws blood.... and a violent response as the false runelord's guisarme punches through the mists and rains...

Teldon frowns as the impostor continues to rebuff their attacks. With few good options, he thrusts his spear twice more at their foe...

Zorshen affixes her imposter with a baleful gaze. "You had your chance. It it time to end this... and you!" She then points at the demon and makes an odd gesture.

Evil Eye hex on Fake Sorshen. -2 to AC for 6 rounds. Will save DC 14 reduces that to 1 round.

I think we're waiting for Shadlah...


Moving with a grace and sensuality that tells of her time as the 'Runelord of Lust', the fiendish creature weaves past most of the blows aimed towards her... being caught only once by Teldon's spear. Black blood, steaming a red mist into the air, drips on to the beach's sand as the thing that was 'Sorshen' screeches her indignation.

...and is then, momentarily at least, distracted by Ziomarra's magicks.

Once more Shadlah finds the ancient rock unpliable to her mind... the shapes she tries to form fall apart too readily and her attempted blast is naught more than a showering of dust...

Each round at the start of the shaman’s turn, if the bonded creature is wounded for 5 or more hit points below its maximum hit points, it heals 5 hit points and the shaman takes 5 points of damage. The shaman can have one bond active per shaman level. The bond continues until the bonded creature dies, the shaman dies, the distance between her and the bonded creature exceeds 100 feet, or the shaman ends it as an immediate action. Bloodied and bruised, Teldon sighs resolutely as the desperate battle against the impostor Runelord drags on. Still finding little in the way of options, he continues to stab at their foe...

Arsith lies unconscious in the sand whilst Shadlah finds the rock here curiously uncooperative to her sculpting... Seeing the situation deteriorate, Briana moves into a far more aggressive strategy, summoning a weapon of spiritual energies - yet the ghostly apparition fails to solidify as it might have been expected... and merely wafts ineffectively at the thing that is not Sorshen.

A cruel smile curls on the fiend's face as she senses victory is close at hand, a blackened tongue runs along ruby-red lips as she rises above Teldon.... and her guisarme is drawn back, ready for the killing blow...

A blow that never comes, momentarily hexed by Ziomarra, Sorshen's awareness of Joanna's position is befuddled... and the paladin sees her chance. Stepping beneath the beating wings, she drives her steel upwards - and into flesh once more... shrieking in agony as the sword cuts deep, the winged 'runelord' tries to pull clear - and, her attention fully upon escape, she doesn't see the near surgical strike from Teldon. His spear finally finding exposed skin, and with the full force of Teldon's desperation behind it, fatally impaling the mistress of the Lady's Light.

Instantly dead, the creature crashes to the floor - the plummeting weight wrenching Teldon's spear from his hands - and creates a final crater in the sand as she lies still.

Combat Over... a nice -2 to AC from Ziomarra's Evil Eye making sure that one of Joanna's attacks hit... and that Teldon's attack confirmed the critical!!!!

And with that, everyone can level up to Level 7 (and grab Hero Point)... don't forget any Automatic Bonus Progression goodness when you do...

Emerging from the tunnels, there is only Oriana and three of her soldiers left... the Korvosan guard that had entered the Lady's Light seeking treasures and power that would allow them to retake Korvosa in the name of their dead queen had found something else... something that had nearly ended them and would surely now shape their destiny along a much changed path.

As 'Sorshen' finally collapses to the ground, never to rise again, Briana drops to her hands and knees as though she were a marionette whose strings had been cut. She sends out one more pulse of positive energy, mending her friends' wounds as best as she can.

"Nearly..." Teldon answers as he hurries to the impostor's side and begins searching the corpse.

As the fiendish imposter falls dead, Joanna's hair turns from shining silver to raven black. As she shrinks back down to size, her legs begin to buckle and leans heavily on Halli who's at her side in moments. The fight was over, now she can heal.

Joanna goes to all of the downed Grey Maidens and moves those still alive near to Arsith and those who are dead off to the side.

She glides through the air toward the fallen demon, alights next to it, and kicks the corpse in its face. "And that is what happens to usupers."

Watching herself act as if she was in the audience of a play, Ziomarra inwardly cringes at Sorshen's show of curelty.

—Was that really necessary?

Thoughts not her own reply:

—Of course! One must always show strength before the troops. It's the only way to keep them in line. I have lived for a thousand years. You're barely more than a child, but should have learned that by now.

Ziomarra pauses, trying to find a way to regain control of herself from Sorshen's influence.

—I will never learn if you keep me locked here. Give me back control, and I promise I will seek your counsel when I need it.

Cruel laughter echoes in her mind. A voice dripping with amusement replies.

—All right. You can have this body back for a while. But know that I can take it right back whenever you cease to amuse me. So... be sure to amuse me.

Ziomarra feels her head turn toward Joanna as she toils to gather the fallen together.

—That one shows promise. And I don't really have to convince you very much... do I?

Ziomarra's mind is then flooded with a barrage of erotic images, many of which had been from her own imagination...

Zee quickly steps away from the fallen demon.

"Um... sorry about that. I got a bit carried away."

She then moves over to Arsith, who begins to stir. Kneeling beside her, she utters a prayer of supplication, and her hand begins to glow with a silvery light. She places it on Arsith's chest.

Spontaneously casts cure moderate wounds by sacrificing inflict moderate wounds.

Heals: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (8, 1) + 3 = 12

After that, she turn toward the fallen demon again, draws a Harrow card, and casts a spell as she looks through the card as if it were a lens.

Casts detect magic, looking for auras from the dead demon.

Falling to her knees, Shadlah punches the floor beneath her in frustration, leaving a small crater extending a foot from her fist. Her teeth clench and her shoulders sag, before the debris from her blow gathers into the small form of the armadillo that curls around her hand.

Taking a deep breath, the Shoanti stands, waiting for those around her to finish their tasks, focusing entirely on her own breathing and the ache spreading through her arms.

I feel so useless, sometimes.. I never managed to wound our foe. The only thing that makes me a little less than totally useless is that, at least, I was another target for her. But if she had attacked Jo first, I would have been unable to save her.

Arsith seems really to have her mood down


All around is devastation, amongst the craters of scorched sand there are slain Grey Maidens, the burning remnants of boats and ruined crates - and everywhere, spatters of blood. It is a far cry from the relative peace of the beach when the group first arrived in these caverns...

Healing energies burst and wash out from Briana, from Joanna and from Ziomarra, reviving those who had suffered most under the onslaught from the thing that was not Sorshen... and finally, with the threat from the mistress of the Lady's Light passed, the group are able to think about the future - but first, tentatively approaching the corpse of 'Sorshen' and pushing the huge leather wings aside, the pathfinders are finally able to consider their defeated foe... the 'woman' still retains the facial features of Sorshen but the horns, the serrated teeth and the savage claws betray her demonic origins.

...and, to the treasures that she was carrying, the guisarme - blades slick with blood - is an elegant weapon...

...and there, hanging on a steel chained pendant and nestled in her cleavage, is the shard that 'Sorshen' had stolen from Teldon.

Teldon breathes a long, loud sigh of relief as he sticks his hand in the demon's cleavage. He works quickly to retrieve his shard and clasp it about his neck. With his fingers still wrapped around it he says, "Now it's over."

Zee rests he hand on Arsith's soulder reassuringly. "It's okay, sister. I couldn't touch her with my magic, either. The important things are: One, she's dead now, and two, we have both her shard and the one she'd stolen from Teldon. And three... we live to tell the tale..." Zee glances around at the carnage of the battlefield. "...and I wish I could say the same for all of the fallen Gray Maidens." Squeezing Arsith's shoulder again, she rises.

Her gaze stays on Arsith a bit longer than ususal as more lustful thoughts cross her mind.

—Sorshen... you're not helping!

More haughty laughter echoes in her mind.

She shakes her head as if to clear her thoughts and walks to Oriana.

"I'm sorry that your band met such an ill fate here. I can help you bury your dead.[b]" After a pause, she adds, [b]"Where do you think you'll go from here?"

Briana climbs to her feet, a bit shakily, but that's more due to weariness than anything else. She looks around, taking stock of the situation. Some of them were still injured, but at least now everyone could at least move about and walk again.

"Zee's right - we'll help you with your dead, if you'll let us," she agrees. "And um, it's up to you, of course, but...maybe somewhere outside, where they can see the sun again, would be better than down here," Briana adds, gently.

After doing what she can for the fallen, she turns to her friends, then to the harrowed survivors of the Grey Maidens.

"Soldiers are buried where they fall," Joanna says, her expression sorrowful. "That was one of the lessons Brother Titus taught me when he trained me."

She looks around the beach and her shoulders bow just a little more as she counts the dead.

"If you wish to take them out and lay them to rest on the Cape, I will help, but I think Zee asked a more important question. Where do you go from here? Do you have a plan, or are you just going to leave and see what fortune has for you?"

please don’t ask us to move all the bodies out of here... I have no idea how far from the exit we are, but I’m sure it would be incredibly difficult to get all these corpses out...


Oriana's voice is cold and full of steel when she nods at Joanna, pointedly looking away from the broken remains of the one who had called herself Runelord, "It is as true for the Maidens as it is for any other soldier - those who fall in battle are lain to rest where they fell. Their sword and shield shall act as headstone... and a memorial of a life given to defending what was right" ...and if anyone were to question whether Oriana's sisters truly had 'defended what was right' in Korvosa - or even in their quest to unearth the treasures of the Lady's Light and to subsequently retake the city that had fallen when their queen was deposed - then the steel clad warrior would simply, and earnestly, reply that orders are what gives the world structure... and that a warrior does not question.

Using tools retrieved from their storage chambers, the Grey Maidens work for a while - digging the holes that will act as graves - before Oriana turns to the question as to what comes next, "Whatever we were before, that life no longer exists - it is time for us to unshackle ourselves from the bonds of Ileosa's reign and to find our own purpose. Some time away from the cities of Varisia would serve us well - Magnimar, Riddleport and, beyond a doubt, Korvosa... people would know us for what we are - it is time to make our own story - to set down our helms and no longer be 'Grey Maiden'. The few of us that remain, we shall head to the north... and see where fortune leads us".

She hasn't said it, and none of the remaining warriors have yet spoken, but there is gratitude in Oriana's voice.

Happy for you folks to wrap up here... and head back towards your rendezvous with the ship that is meant to take you back to Magnimar - but equally happy for you to RP whatever else you want to do.

"Um, I'm not sure if there's somewhere else along the way we could take you to so you can get some supplies...or if you'd rather just part ways here. Joanna sits on a crate next to Briana, sweat dripping from her brow and matting her hair against her neck. Her breathing comes in slow, heavy gulps as she recovers from the exertion and let's Briana speak with them first.

"If you decide to come to Magnimar to get ready for the trip, I've got connections. I could help you get to wherever you wanted to go, from Kalsgard to Katapesh," she says, abandoning the idea of asking all of the Grey Maidens if they'd like to work for her.

She does take Helanda to the side later that night, though.

"Are you going to go with them," Joanna asks once they are a little ways from the others.

"Yes, and I have reports to submit, and a business venture to check on," Teldon responds nodding in agreement with the warpriest.

and we need to figure out where the next shard is, but that conversation is best left until after we part ways with the Grey Maidens...


Any offers from Joanna, implied or otherwise, for opportunities in Magnimar are rebuked - not without some warmth - by the Grey Maidens. Whatever lies ahead for the handful of Ileosa's warriors, it would seem that their fate will run a different course to that of the Pathfinders...

It takes some time - burying the fallen, gathering the remaining provisions stored by the Grey Maidens and finally repairing the least damaged of the boats - but eventually, the time comes to bid a glad farewell to the lower reaches of the Lady's Light. In silence, the group make their way back across the lake... and then back in to the chambers where Ziomarra was slain by the man who had served 'Sorshen' to the last... and finally, with their craving for sunlight becoming ever stronger, they arrive at the mausoleum where Ziomarra's body lies - still and deathly cold.

”It was one thing to hear about what happened after my capture,” Teldon remarks looking down at Ziomarra’s body, ”but it’s something else entirely to see this...”

”It should be fine until tomorrow, as long as this sarcophagus isn’t cursed, but we’ll probably want to start using magic to preserve it from there. Arsith, you used to serve Pharasma- surely you know the prayers to keep her body in good condition?”
I’m not sure about Briana, but I’m pretty sure Arsith can use gentle repose while we figure out what to do with/for Zee

"So another night down here," Joanna asks, not quite petulantly, but definitely with more of an air of patience than is her wont. Realizing her mood was turning sour, she shakes her head and sighs.

"Sorry Teldon. I guess my nerves are more frayed than I thought. I just want out of this place."

"I don't think we have to stay down here unless everyone just wants to. We can still rest out under the stars. We just need to, um...make a litter or something to carry Zee's body until we can get back to the ship," Briana offers, not really keen on staying another night inside either.

"And me and Arsith can work together on keeping Zee's body preserved until we can figure out a way to put her back in it. It's not...not really magic that I ever thought I'd need to use but I can do it," she swallows, glancing away from the still form of her friend.

"Does anyone have any concept of what time it might be?" Teldon asks. "We've been underground so long, and I was unconscious for so long, that I couldn't even guess... once we have some kind of litter built we should consider venturing outside as soon as possible. If its night we can come back in to sleep in relative safety, but if its morning it would be a shame to waste our daylight resting."

Joanna looks for the rope then fashions the end of it into a harness for Halli before climbing up it.

"I think we just might better take a look Bri," she says, eager to get some fresh air.

Joanna will take 10 climbing the rope then haul Halli up before lowering it for the next person in line.

With a shudder, Zee looks at her own body, still lying in Sorshen's sarcophagus.

"...I will never get used to that." she whispers.

But the moment she says the words, the rest of you see her standing amid you, looking as you remember her... a living, breathing version of the corpse in the sarcophagus.

Zee is unintentionally using her newly-granted Disguise Hex.

Seemingly unaware of her change of appearance, Zee responds to her friends' suggestions, "When last I checked, however many days ago it was, the preservative magic of the sarcophagus was still intact. Honestly, I'd just as soon leave my old body here. Sorshen's clone went undisturbed for millennia... if we put the lid back, my old body should be okay for a few months... or years."

She then realizes that her friends are staring at her.

"What?"

"Zee," Joanna begins to say from where she hang some seven feet above the floor of the large chamber, "are you okay? I thought you wanted to get back to your body?"
