Nalathi Estrid |
Their argument (mostly) forgotten when the door is opened, she grimaces as air rushes out at them from the interior. "Ugh, who'd want to spend time in a place like this?" Nevertheless, she steps inside with the others. She certainly isn't going to let a smell prevent her from pressing on!
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
GM Zed |
As soon as Nalathi steps into the shack and onto the plank, two fetid goblins come wading through the sewer pipes and emerge into the room, waist deep in sewage. Literally covered in mud and muck, they start shouting about being the ‘proper guards to Missy’ and, clutching a couple of hessian bags each they launch into song.
”Longshanks spit and Longshanks sneer,
But Goblins be guarding under ‘ere
Can’t get past cos’ what we’ll do
Is aim real good with our bags of P**!!!!”
Initiative Check for Party / Enemy
Briana, Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Nalathi, Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Ziomarra, Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Joanna, Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Teldon, Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Sewer Goblins, Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Initiative Order
Sewer Goblins then
Nalathi, Briana, Joanna, Teldon and Ziomarra
Note that the plank and ledge are only three feet above the sewage…and therefore, for the purposes of combat, whilst at the door / on the plank you may be adjacent to creatures in the sewage
Also note that moving across the plank requires an Acrobatics DC10 check to avoid falling into the sewage
I will post for the Sewer Goblons shortly
GM Zed |
The goblins wade away from Nalathi and, when they are standing well clear of her trident, each lob a bag of muck at her. From her position at the door, there is little Nalathi can do to avoid them and, with a wet ‘splat’ sound, both bags thud into her…exploding in a brown mess of filth and broken glass…the smell, needless to say, is vile.
Sewer Goblin 2 takes a 5ft step to the NW (I can’t move icons on map at work so, if someone else can do, that would be useful)
Sewer Goblin 1, Pouch of Filth vs Nalathi (Touch Ranged): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16, hitting for 1
Sewer Goblin 2, Pouch of Filth vs Nalathi (Touch Ranged): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14, hitting for 1
Nalathi – you need to make a Fortitude Save, DC12 to avoid being Sickened for 1d6 ⇒ 4 rounds (you are still Sickened for 1 round on a successful save
From somewhere up the sewer pipe, you can hear two other voices, ”Go get the knocking stick…gonna splash the Longshanks”
Everyone may take their turn now
Nalathi Estrid |
Fort save: 1d20 ⇒ 9
No sooner does she spot the goblins than they both lob bags of muck at her. One bursts against her chest, the other catches her in the face, filling her nostrils with filth. She's fortunate to have had her mouth closed at the time. Unable to see and hardly able to breathe, her hands go immediately to her face to wipe it away. As soon as she can see again she grabs desperately for her trident and hurls it at the nearest of the goblins, trying not to throw up.
Trident throw: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 - 2 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 - 2 = 6
Teldon Moore |
As the stink spreads around Nalathi, Teldon exhales sharply and grimaces in disgust. Stepping behind her, he grabs the ladder and climbs quickly into the crawl space above. Assuming he doesn't see any new threats up there, he crouches up there leaning over the hole to see what's happening below and prepares a bomb to throw as soon as the other goblins arrive, or the window of opportunity closes...
ready an action to throw a bomb at goblin 1 as soon as the other 2 goblins appear, or when movement is about to make bombs too dangerous (i.e. a teammate is about to step in front of Nalathi or the 2 current goblins are about to move closer to us).
edit: to save time when the attack is triggered...
ranged touch: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22; for: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
- confirm (touch): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12; for an extra: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
adjacent goblins take 7, DC 17 ref for 1/2
GM Zed |
Teldon squeezes past Nalathi, trying his hardest not to get covered in her filth. Looking upwards, Teldon steps onto the ladder and, putting his weight onto the first rung, feels the whole thing collapse…damp wood shearing as he grabs at air…and falls into the raw sewage below. Barely managing to stay on his feet, Teldon finds himself standing waist deep in muck…solid lumps of waste floating around him…
...and the goblins shriek with laughter...
Teldon, you will need to make a DC12 Fortitude Check to avoid contracting a disease
Teldon - With movement to the ladder and falling, you can’t ready an action this round…however, you rolled a 20 on your readied action, so I will allow you to use that roll next turn
All – movement in the sewage pit is equivalent to a ‘Shallow Bog’; each square costs 2 squares of movement and any Acrobatics checks have their DC increased by 2
Teldon Moore |
no reflex save to avoid falling or anything? or even a perception check to notice the ladder won't hold? acrobatics to land on the ledge instead of in the filth? I'd gladly invest the nat 20 in any of those things, even if it still costs my turn...
GM Zed |
No reflex save to avoid the fall...and the perception check is higher than 'taking 10' would have got you...I think, in the general heat of battle, you wouldn't have taken actual time to check (if it had been below a 'take 10' DC, I would have allowed you to notice as a matter of course)...sorry if that seems a little harsh
Note that there is no falling damage...the only penalty is the possible exposure to disease (you can use your 20 for that if you like...or for an attack next turn...entirely your call)
Briana Kaddren |
Briana gags at the horrific smell wafting off of Nalathi. "They're throwing bags of feces!? Why would anyone do that????"
She hurriedly reloads her crossbow but then realizes that she can't get a good bead on either goblin without running the risk of hitting Nalathi should she miss. Unsure of what else to do, she holds her ground for the moment, ready to let fly a bolt when a clear shot presents itself.
Readied action to shoot at a goblin once there's a clear line of sight to one. When/if that happens:
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Briana may want to consider a new ranged weapon at this rate...
Teldon Moore |
I'll use it on the Fort save. Also, please remember that with my current buffs my perception is up to +3 and my AC is up to 16.
Teldon's face goes stark white and his grimace twists his face to an almost unrecognizable scowl as he plummets into the sh!t... it quickly flushes crimson red as disgust gives way to rage...
Ziomarra Callinovo |
Looking into the pit over Nalathi's head, Zee casts a spell at one of the sewer goblins.
"Teldon, are you okay?"
Casts daze on the goblin on the left. Will save DC 13.
Joanna Whitehall |
Joanna steps up behind Nalathi and puts her hand on the little woman's shoulder.
"Blessed be those that act in selflessness." She says as her holy symbol glows and divine power flows from her to Nalathi.
Touch of Good: +1 to saving throws, ability checks, and skill checks for the next round
GM Zed |
Sewer Goblin 2, Will Save vs Daze: 1d20 ⇒ 9, Failed, Goblin 2 is Dazed for 1 round
Whilst one of the goblins looks off into the middle distance, the other one barges past him...making room for two more of the smelly beasts to emerge from the sewer pipe...one immediately throwing a bag of effluent whilst the other starts knocking at the plank with a filthy looking broom handle.
Sewer Goblin 1, Pouch of Filth vs Teldon (Touch Ranged): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15, hitting for 1
Teldon, you need to make a Fortitude Save, DC12 to avoid being Sickened for 1d6 ⇒ 6 rounds (you are still Sickened for 1 round on a successful save)
Sewer Goblin 3, Pouch of Filth vs Nalathi (Touch Ranged): 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17, hitting for 1
Nalathi, you may make an Attack of Opportunity vs the Sewer Goblin (as he has made a ranged attack whilst adjacent to you)
Sewer Goblin 4, Broom Handle vs Plank: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22, hitting for Strength Check: 1d20 ⇒ 8, Plank remains intact
Everyone may take their turn now
Teldon Moore RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
i have reach with my long spear... I think that means both goblins provoke from me? I'll take the AoO on the one throwing at me (on the off chance that he dies that I kill him before he gets the throw off)
AoO: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3; for: 1d8 ⇒ 3 nope
fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 and, nope again :(
Standing waist deep in sh!t, a clearly furious Teldon is barely keeping it together when suddenly a bag of it bursts open on his chest. He gags and recoils, and looses a tirade of expletives that would make the even the most grizzled sailor blush. In the midst of his cursing he draws out a bomb and hurls it at he the goblin in the northwest corner.
touch attack vs goblin 2: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 - 2 = 4; for: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 and there's the trifecta smh
7 splash damage to 1, 2, and 3; DC 17 ref for half
Nalathi Estrid |
I'd like to, but I'm no longer holding a weapon...
Scowling at her miss, she draws her shortsword, and slashes at the goblin.
Shortsword attack: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 - 2 = 7
Damage: 1d4 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 - 2 = 4
GM Zed |
Rolling direction for Teldon’s missed thrown Splash Weapon: 1d8 ⇒ 1, bomb falls short
Teldon’s grip on his thrown flask is poor, possibly due to the wet sewage clinging to his clothing, and it slips from his hand too soon…it flies high into the air…and then, in what feels like slow motion, bounces down upon the plank where it explodes…showering all of the goblins, Nalathi and Teldon himself in shrapnel and splinters.
Reflex Save Sewer Goblin 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14, failed
Reflex Save Sewer Goblin 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20, save made, 4 damage
Reflex Save Sewer Goblin 3: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7, failed
Reflex Save Sewer Goblin 4: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17, save made, 4 damage
Two of the goblins are killed in the blast whilst the other two, who ducked below the sewage to avoid the full brunt of the blast, are badly injured.
Teldon and Nalathi, please make Reflex Saves, DC17 to reduce 7 damage to 4
Nalathi, I am happy to retcon you drawing your short sword as a Move Action last round (after flinging your trident), so feel free to attack again
Joanna, Briana and Ziomarra may still take their turn
Ziomarra Callinovo |
"Good shot, Teldon!" Zee casts a spell, and another ghostly card flies through the air at the goblin holding the broom handle.
Daze on goblin #4. Will save DC 13 negates.
Ziomarra Callinovo |
Sorry for the taunting. It's what Zee would expect from her companions if she did something similar. That's why she has the Paranoid drawback...
Teldon Moore |
Teldon isn't always great at catching sarcasm... He assumed that she was being earnest because his one shot killed half the goblins and injured the other half while her spells seemed completely ineffective
Briana Kaddren |
Sorry about the delay; looooooong and busy day at work today.
As she bears witness to the sudden explosion of shrapnel, wood, sewage, poop, and goblin body parts, Briana is extremely thankful that she's not in the middle of it. However, she bounces on the balls of her feet in frustration as she's still unable to get a clear shot with her crossbow. Not wanting to be completely useless, she beseeches the spirits for aid as she places her hand upon Zee's shoulder.
Casting Guidance, +1 to any one attack roll, saving throw or skill check, lasts for 1 minute or until discharged.
Joanna Whitehall |
So, really wishing I'd taken a crossbow. Joanna's too slow to risk going into the muck, and I'm not sure what to do.
GM Zed |
Joanna, a little bit of help from the GM then…
Frozen by uncertainty, Joanna suddenly recalls the crossbows abandoned by Gregor and Piotr. Running, and struggling to keep her footing on the slick mud, she retrieves the weapon and takes a position at the door to the hut…the heavy wood of the bow reassuring in her hands…
Meanwhile, another goblin becomes fascinated by Ziomarra’s card tricks and, for a moment, stops poking at the plank with his broom handle.
Goblin 4, Will Save vs Daze: 1d20 ⇒ 4, Failed, Goblin 4 is Dazed for 1 round
The remaining goblin, blood pouring from a nasty head wound, plucks Nalathi’s trident from the wall and attempts to skip along the plank towards the struggling swashbuckler…
Goblin 2, 5ft Step along Plank / Acrobatics Check DC15: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14, Failure
…and falls back on itself into the sewage…it disappears below the brown soup for a moment or two and then emerges, coughing and spluttering…
Everyone may take their turn now
Ziomarra Callinovo |
When Joana steps out of the doorway to grab one of the Sczarni's crossbows, Zee steps into the gap, raising her starknife. She hurls it over Nalathi's head at the goblin who just fell off the plank.
Ranged attack with starknife: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 1 = 17
Damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0 Min 1
GM Zed |
Ooops, sorry Nalathi...your attack missed...and both goblins are standing below the plank / in the sewage
All, FYI goblins have AC of 16/13/13...I won't normally initially share the AC of your enemies...but for encounters that run for a couple of rounds or more, I will share to allow you to judge your tactics / success or failure of attacks
Teldon Moore |
Teldon. still beside himself with anger and disgust, tosses another bomb into the northeast corner of the room, where it bursts and showers one of the remaining goblins with flame. Then steps away from the stunned creature.
7 fire damage to goblin #2, Ref 17 for half; 1 bomb remaining
I'm away from my computer and can't update the map, can someone please 5' step me into southwest corner
GM Zed |
The goblin who had fallen from the plank is struck first by Ziomarra’s Starknife and then by a large fragment of brickwork that is dislodged by Teldon’s bomb…without a sound, it slips below the sewage.
Sewer Goblin 2 is dead, Sewer Goblin 4 is Dazed, has AC 16/13/13 and 2 HP remaining
Joanna, Briana and Nalathi, you may take your turn
Nalathi Estrid |
Looking down at the goblin swinging her own trident, Nalathi scowls. I really do not want to go down there into the muck... She watches the goblin below her, hoping it will try to climb out.
Readying an action for if the goblin gets within striking distance.
Nalathi Estrid |
Ok I did miss where Teldon killed the other one, but you said...
...and both goblins are standing below the plank / in the sewage
I took that to mean 'out of reach.' But I'll happily redo that.
Not looking forward to the prospect of having to retrieve her trident, she nevertheless lunges at the one remaining goblin.
Shortsword attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Joanna Whitehall |
For dope slapping unruly apprentices at least.
Crossbow (Melee): 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 1 - 4 = 15
Damage (Assuming light crossbow): 1d8 ⇒ 7
Joanna loads a bolt and sends it streaking towards the last goblin.
Briana Kaddren |
Seeing that all but one of the goblins has been dealt with by her companions, Briana opts to keep out of the way of the melee and offers up another prayer to the spirits, this time to aid Joanna.
Casting Guidance again. I'm so glad that Pathfinder makes sure that lowbie casters have more options in the form of cantrips and orisons!
GM Zed |
Nalathi’s slash at the sewer goblin narrowly misses…indeed, the blade takes the tip of one of it’s ears off…yet, the goblin is in such a daze that it fails to register the attack.
Seeing Joanna’s raised crossbow, Briana steps forward and softly places her hand on Joanna’s shoulder…the strings of fate tighten and the bolt, which would have otherwise missed it’s mark, curves in it’s flight and spears the goblin through the neck. With an uncomprehending gurgle, it slumps backwards and slips below the surface.
Combat is over
As the final goblin falls to Joanna’s attack, calm returns…taking stock of the situation, the ladder that led up to the crawlspace is shattered and shredded…although the beams of the roof above you look more robust than the ladder proved to be. The plank across the pool of sewage is still, despite the efforts of the broom wielding goblin and Teldon, intact…and leads to a closed door on the other side of the room. Unfortunately, neither Ziomarra’s starknife nor Nalathi’s trident are anywhere to be seen…presumably they are lying in the sewage near the goblin killed when his bomb dislodged brickwork…
Nalathi Estrid |
She shudders when she looks down into the muck, unable to see her trident. "Can any of you magic-users, like... get my trident back? Or does anyone at least have a... clean spell, or summon water, or anything?" She isn't sure which she likes less-- the thought of having to retrieve the now-filthy weapon, or the thought of leaving it behind.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
She points to the door on the other side of the plank. "Also, there's someone on the other side of that door. Maybe several someones."
Teldon Moore |
"Get me out of here, please!" Teldon calls out as he tries to climb up on to the plank...
climb: 1d20 ⇒ 15
assuming that's high enough- he scampers up on his own and warns, "watch out!" as he quickly moves out into the cleansing rain, trying his best not to dirty his new acquaintances with the sh!t that covers his lower half...
"Who the f@#k has a f@#king sh!t room in their house?!? Why are we trying to help her? We really should burn this f@#king sh!t house down and when she runs out to save her life we can ask her what the f@#k is wrong with her!" he unloads as he desperately tries to wipe off the filth with rain and puddle water.
Ziomarra Callinovo |
EDIT: Ninja'd...
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
"Sorry, Nalathi. My magic doesn't work that way. Where's that broomstick the one goblin had? We could use that as a probe to find our missing weapons."
Looking up at the rafters, and down at Teldon still standing in the sewage, she asks, "And does anyone have a rope?"
Stepping out of the way of Teldon, she observes, "I would hazard that Natalya is simply hiding here. The Tower Girls are supposedly after her."
Briana Kaddren |
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Briana backs away from Teldon, out of a desire to not get dirty herself but also from being a little alarmed at his outburst.
"Um, I think Zee is right, she probably just hid here because it's convenient and not because she really wanted a sewer for a front room," she says meekly. "And I don't think the building would burn very well in this rain," she adds, almost as an afterthought.
Teldon Moore |
"I'm sorry," Teldon says as the smell disapates, "it's hard to think straight when you are covered in human waste.... Frankly I'm astounded that you all seem so comfortable with this... Is Nalathi ok? They got her with some too..."
Ziomarra Callinovo |
At Nalathi's warning, followed by Teldon's outburst, Zee motions everyone to regroup outside the door.
"Teldon, neither you nor Nalathi look so good. Are those burns? Wounds and filth is not a good combination. Alas, the cards did not suggest that I prepare any healing magic today. Joanna, might you ask the Inheritor for a blessing?"
Teldon Moore |
"Well," Teldon begins sheepishly, as the extent of his injuries sinks in, "I cauterized our wounds, so they shouldn't fester too much... I think we could both use some healing though if anyone is capable of such... Nalathi, I am sorry that you were caught in that blast; I'm working on a technique to prevent that from happening but clearly I have not mastered it yet..." The apology seems difficult for him to get out and utterly earnest.
Briana Kaddren |
"We're all here and in one piece, that's what's important," Briana offers encouragingly. "Keep practicing your technique; I'm sure you'll get accustomed to it soon."
With that said, she turns and peers into the room, gagging slightly from the smell. "I'm not sure what we're going to do about your trident, Nalathi. I'm afraid I don't have any magic capable of retrieving it," she frowns. "But either way, we'd better prepare ourselves before we go any farther, especially since whoever Nalathi heard in there surely knows that we're here as well."
Nalathi Estrid |
With so many other distractions, she had barely noticed her wounds. "Yeah, thanks," she says dryly, noticing the damage Teldon's bomb had caused her for the first time. Now that she's aware of it, the pain washes over her and she winces with each movement. The damage was more extensive than she'd realized-- one piece of shrapnel had narrowly missed her heart. She doubts she could take another. "Just... no more friendly fire, okay?"
Joanna Whitehall |
"Of course." Joanna says another brief prayer as the warmth of divine energy flows over everyone.
Channel Positive: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Channel Positive: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Channel Positive: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Channel Positive: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Wow, that some bad luck for us. 8 damage healed. Burning Shield of Faith to get Nalathi back up to full.
Seeing Nalathi is still injured somewhat, Joanna takes her hand and touches the little gnome's shoulder. Her holy symbol glows once more and the young priestess looks slightly dazed and really tired after she says one more brief prayer.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Oh of course, NOW I roll well. :|
"S-sorry, but I don't think I have the energy to heal your wounds again, please, be careful." Joanna's breathing is heavy as she tries to hide how much that had drained her.
Teldon Moore |
"Thank you, Joanna... I don't think I could have gone on without that," Teldon says with an uncharacteristic amount of humility. "Do we have a plan for proceeding? It seems there is more than one person in there and they obviously know we're here..."
Ziomarra Callinovo |
"In the, as Teldon put it, '$hit room,' the ceiling had collapsed and the beams were exposed. While the ladder was a trap," she shrugs her shoulders and looks at Teldon, "The roof joists seemed sturdy enough. We could throw a rope around a beam, climb up, and see what's in the attic. Otherwise, we walk along the plank and find out who's on the other side of that door. Whatever we choose, I fear that we should expect trouble!"
