Jun Korter |
As the man begins breathing he lets out his breath and almost allows Miriam to pull him out the saddle. But knowing that there could be others that need healing or saving he gives her a nod to both her and the sheriff and rides back into the battle. Probably get there too late to be any assistance but he needs to keep trying
As he gallops to the action he finally feels a sense of prupose for the powers he has developed.
Reiko Arashi |
A what? Sakuro! Take me to the rest of them!
Reiko shouts, trying to sound regal, but only ending up sounding useless.
I have to contribute something to this battle... I should have known better than to let my desires cloud my judgement over that tome earlier... probably what got me into this memory loss predicament in the first place...
Auric Lightmane |
I think all that's left for round 7 is another save for the Warrior, the centipede's attack, and Nia's turn... Tania and Alyra both declared attacks that couldn't happen after Jun altered our fates, so they could take different actions too if you want.
Auric Lightmane |
For a moment Auric seems torn between rushing to Nia's aid and dealing with the final warrior before he has an opportunity to escape... it passes quickly and he rushes to defend the bookish bard. As he moves, though, he gestures toward the drooling green statue and calls out, "He wears the horns of power, he too must die!"
As soon as he draws close enough to the hissing menace plaguing Nia, he brings his greatsword down heavy at the skittering vermin.
charge: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
for: 2d6 + 12 ⇒ (6, 2) + 12 = 20
I'm not certain, so I didn't include the bonus, but based on where I was and where the centipede came from to get to Nia, I think I might be flanking with her? If that's the case that should actually be 18 to hit... though I'm not sure that will make a difference...
Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
Sakuro did her best to orient Reiko, then gave him a bit of a push forward, calling out movement directions as best she could to guide him to where he needed to be - without him tripping up and falling over himself or anything along those lines.
Nia'Nikta |
Can't make AoO with a whip unfortunately. It doesn't threaten. Whip while cool thematically isn't that effective a weapon.
Nia'Nikta felt pain lance through her foot at the creatures bite feeling its venom seep into the wound.
Childhood memories rush to the forefront as the Ogre leader speaks rendering her unable to speak about what he said. Half-blinded to what was going on around her the centipedes death jerking her out of her half-tranced state leaving her with no memory of what just went through her mind. It was like a niggling memory that merely popped up to interfere with her thinking.
Fort: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
While Alyra's healing course through her body sealing the wound she shuddered the venom trying to take hold.
Maybe the memory was some long forgotten horror dealing with insects or it could just be pain overrode everything else. 'Or who knows Nia, it may have been so prophetic vision you suddenly just forgot that could lead you to the Titan's Child.' She scolded herself lightly. Looking down at her feet she saw its dead body and lifted her boot and stomped on it a couple of times for good measure as she looked around the battlefield at the ogres fleeing and asks.
"What about the ones that went toward the lake? Are all fleeing?"
Seeing the one ogre held by Alyra's magic and then the others wondering what they would do. Nia held her whip loosely.
EldonG |
Nia is currently feeling the venom working on her, and it makes her a bit sluggish. -1 Dex, roll another Fort please.
Antonio quickly sees that the ogres have fled, except for one that Drokar seems to be enjoying himself with. The ogre has a nasty wound in the thigh, while Drokar is totally untouched.
Auric Lightmane |
Auric walks purposefully to the motionless warrior. Placing his sword to the brutes neck he says, "Someone please translate for me: You are found guilty; now you shall stand before the Stone Sentinel for judgement."
When the translation is given he brings his greatsword around hard, hoping to show the mercy of a quick death... a mercy he was sure this beast had denied many...
coup de grace: 4d6 + 24 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 1) + 24 = 36
DC 46 fort save to live if he survives the hp damage
Alyra |
I barely have the strength to make a difference against a beast like him - unlike you - or Auric here.
Alyra watches the big sword sink deep into the warrior - it's not enough to simply kill, but he won't make the save. Seconds later - about the time Drokar finishes (it's rather like watching a mouse toying with a cat!) the warrior goes limp and collapses.
Bad-Luck Baldek |
I barely have the strength to make a difference against a beast like him - unlike you - or Auric here.
Alyra watches the big sword sink deep into the warrior - it's not enough to simply kill, but he won't make the save. Seconds later - about the time Drokar finishes (it's rather like watching a mouse toying with a cat!) the warrior goes limp and collapses.
Baldek watches the ogre drop like a stone and says flatly with his coarse voice: "Ah, I see. Next time then."
Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
Sakuro let out a sigh of relief, shaking her hand slightly as the battle finally seemed to be winding to a close. "Good job, everyone!" the girl proclaimed boldly. "That... actually went better than I was afraid it would." her good mood seemed to have been restored now that the immediate danger was gone - she was hard to keep down for an extended period of time.
EldonG |
Picking over the fallen ogres doesn't produce much.
Gold: 6d8 ⇒ (6, 2, 1, 6, 6, 8) = 29 and
Silver: 6d20 ⇒ (13, 1, 5, 7, 18, 20) = 64,
but the patriarch was also wearing a nice, large crystal on a leather thong.
The warrior has another one of those giant axes, and hide armor is common among them. Nothing detects as magic, except a lingering aura on the patriarch.
Jun Korter |
Jun finds Alyra after the battle. "When I raced over to heal that man that had fallen, I got there just in time to keep his soul inside his body. Something...happened though. I feel a different connection with people now, I think I may be able to link with other people like you, may I try?"
If she giver consent he tries and link with her. When successful he gets a large grin, "This is amazing, though I imagine it does not feel as good when you feel other's wounds as they do. However, saving other people feels like my calling. Between my new abilities to save people's lives, and the way fate seems to bend around me, I feel I have a greater purpose now more than ever!"
While Jun's leg is still damaged, and his hands are still burned, he seems more confident than he had before this battle.
Alyra |
Yes - I think - maybe - the day will come when I pass on my responsibilities on to you. I can never be sure about details, but I get very strong feelings.
Jun, you do get a sense of it, after all - Alyra was still injured from carrying others' injuries , but she breaks the link once you've had a taste of it.
Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
Sakuro pocketed the coins, humming cheerfully. "Well, as long as it's not today. I need to recharge my energy." she said, nodding. "Everyone else okay? I don't do healing magic, but I can probably help whip up a good meal once we get back." ...Or accidentally burn the whole building down, but hey! Couldn't make an omelet without torching something, right?
Auric Lightmane |
"I can offer a small measure of healing if anyone needs it," Auric offers. His hair has returned to its normal radiance and he has regained the otherworldly lightness he seemed to possess before the battle began. "And, I will travel to the ogres' liar with you as well, though the sooner the better... I'd prefer not to carry this wretched tome any longer than necessary."
Alyra |
Alyra steps forward.
I've been waiting for the right time for this. I need it, and there may be others. Gather 'round. She waits until the villagers have come close, then stretches out her arms.
Heal them, father. Send the power through me.
Twice she pulses with pure positive energy, healing all within 30'.
Healing: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 3, 5, 6, 3) = 23
Everyone should be at full HP.
Auric Lightmane |
"I don't know..." Auric says hesitantly in response to Baldek, "I'll do whatever I can to protect these people but I punish the guilty, I'm not sure I can cut down younglings that haven't really done any evil yet, even if they are ogres..."
Sakuro, Obsessed Arcanist |
"Don't you have a fancy... what was it called... evil-sensing thingie the gods give?" Sakuro asked vaguely. She'd always been more of an arcane magic specialist, and hadn't studied divine magic nearly as much. But if the stories about paladins were true, and they could sense true evil just by looking at people, then he could probably just use that on any young ogres and make a decision afterwards? If they'd already done enough to count as evil, well...
Auric Lightmane |
"I can sense a creature's nature, whether it is evil or not... but Goldar judges all beings on what they do, not on their nature... I'm not sure I can do otherwise..." Auric says, clearly still wrestling with things. "If someone can show me some reason they deserve to die... or some evidence that this is the only way to protect the village I will join you... but I can't kill children just to raid a lair for valuables..."
"Perhaps," he adds tentatively, "we could just go and chase them off... force them to relocate farther away where they won't be a threat to the village, but without having to kill off their young?"
Nia'Nikta |
Nia'Nikta looks at the group and finally speaks up.
"Then why don't we talk to them and ask them to leave. I am not even sure if they will return there but it just might be possible to change their path. Though, they probably won't accept that since we are the ones that struck first as far as I can tell. I know some of you have prejudices against them but it is possible to vie for peace here and ask them to move on."
Nia doubted they would take the idea but it was always an alternate. Sometimes in noble politics you did similar things.
Flexing her muscles she would put up her whip and look up at Jun and then to Alyra.
"Alyra, Jun, do you wish to ride Shadowstar? He can help you and I can walk with everyone here. My whip doesn't do much damage but it can help. Least I can do for you since you have healed my wounds during that fight."
EldonG |
Oh, they drew first blood. There's the wreckage of some wagons drenched in it, likely not far off the road. I think I saw a couple in their temporary camp, where they were ambushing, and cooking merchants. Now - the young ones I can't be sure of, but they were just here for the raid. For human flesh, I'd wager.
That's why I started watching them, years ago. A few travelers is all they got at first. I warned as many as I could, from their mountain, hoping for the day I could clear them out. One thing you can bet on - the youngest of them have tasted human flesh.
Tania says her piece, then walks off, checking the battlefield for good arrows.
Nia'Nikta |
"Well now I know. Remember, not from around these parts and have only caught part of the stories." She said looking at Tania. That woman carried more weight on her shoulders than she was willing to share.
Looking to the others she sighed slightly. 'This was going to be either a really famous story someday or one I will die trying to see it seems. Right now I am no closer to any of my questions being answered but maybe there will be some time where I can talk with everyone. Especially Alyra.' She would wrack her brain for the phrase 'Daughter of the sea' to see if it rang any bells.
I don't know what knowledge check would be appropriate
"Anytime Alyra. Shadowstar is trained for combat so he won't just bolt on you either. Got him when he was a colt and paid someone to train him for me since I was busy with college but I have rode him everyday since I was able to. He will treat you well and loves apples."
Auric Lightmane |
We never really got into any specifics of how you'd like my code played (Eldon)... I think that's probably enough reason for me to go along, but please let me know if you feel otherwise!
"Well," Auric starts, still obviously apprehensive, "I suppose ogres are probably like bears... once they get a taste for flesh the only way to stop them is to put them down.... Just the same, if we need to clear out this liar for everyone's safety I'd focus on dealing with adults as much as possible and leave the young ones to others who have more stomach for that sort of thing."
Seemingly feeling less conflicted he asks, "which way is the liar from here? Is there any chance at all that we could head for Deep Furrow now and then head straight to the liar from there? I really would like to see if the heads of my order can restore Reiko's sight and help us with this tome as soon as possible..."
Aya Yalandlara |
I assume that we will get 50% of the value for everything that we sell unless we negotiate otherwise. Is that correct?
I estimate that we will get about 25 gold from the crystal, maybe more if we find someone that really likes it. It is getting late. We need to rest for the night and regain spells in the morning. Let's meet at the Mug early in the morning and decide what to do next. That ok with you folks?
Antonio Nedraid |
Antonio nods at Auric.
"Aye, getting Reiko back to normal, that is what's most important. I suppose a decent night's rest is in order. Everyone, do you see any other threats right now?"
He looked around the area.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
EldonG |
As a rule, everything will be at half when selling it to a merchant. Gems can be used as coinage, however, and will usually be good for full value. The crystal qualifies as a gem. Any time you have an actual interested buyer - you may be able to bargain for full value, or even higher, on anything else.
EldonG |
Tania looks up.
The lair is up on the side of the mountain where the road splits. It's on the east side, a bit north. There's a trail, but it's not an easy one. It winds up the mountain a ways.
Tania stops for a minute.
Without the patriarch or any of the warriors, they're going to be pretty lost. I doubt any of them will take any serious initiative for a couple of days - as long as they have food - but it won't last forever. Right now, they're scared of us, too.
She stops again, scans the area, and goes to pick up a couple more arrows, then decides that one isn't worth it.
If you're going with me, I can replace lost arrows. I don't want anyone running out. If you have bolts, though, it'll take a little while.
Reiko Arashi |
Reiko starts when Nia loops her arm in his, but settles when she speaks.
My thanks, Milady. I let my... desires get the better of me when I touched that book. I only hope this is temporary. Please, if I could just get to my room in the Inn I'll just wait there until everyone is ready to leave. No sense in me getting in anyone's way.
Nia'Nikta |
"Yes, you did and you also did it in anger. Just because something is bad and or holds untold secrets doesn't mean that it shouldn't be treated with respect. It is okay, we all learn from things like this." She walked him with the others.
"Nonsense, you should be with us and know what is going on. Take this time to hone your other senses and sharpen your wits. You want to remember something but you aren't letting it come naturally. Relax, take a step back. It will come to you when the time is right."
