Shards of the Titanswar

Game Master EldonG

The ruined monastery is exactly one of those places parents warn their children about. I wonder why...

I know only what I've heard just now about these ogres, but they surely are connected, somehow. I have never been called upon when ancient horrors were not active in the land...and they affect...everything.

Alyra stops for a moment and concentrates.

We must be cautious in the future...the powers have ways of seeing and hearing...they watch.

Antonio nodded solemnly.
"And those mist creatures, they were sent by the power infesting the Monastary?" He asked curiously.

Eldon, is it ok if Reiko has devil's blood as part of his spell component pouch for game purposes, but as far as roleplay goes, he keeps a bail hidden in the hilt of his katana, and didn't know it until the memories revealed it at the same time he remembered the spell?

"You say that you knew Teor the Unrelenting? Truly, that is a great tale indeed. Some time, I would hear it.

Aya speaks correctly. Before all else, our focus should be on the ogres. After that, I too, would see this monastary."

Because of your history, I like that. It can hold enough for 5 castings...presently, you have enough for random: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

As I said, there are many unquiet spirits there. It seems as though they came from within the lake somewhere, and it seems the logical conclusion. I know most of the lake well, though it has been centuries. Should we be somewhere more private?

Yes, Teor was a truly great warrior. He seemed utterly fearless, not even backing away from Kathrask, the demon orc chieftan of the Jagged Tusk clan and his demonic underlings.

Reiko unscrews a hidden cap on his katana, and draws a small vial full of a deep red liquid and shows it Aya.
This is enough to cast the spell five times. After that, we'll need a new supply. I think of we have two or three scrolls, and I have the spell memorized most of the time, we should be able to help keep our friends alive.

He hands her a piece of parchment, the spell hastily scribbled, like a person writing down a dream before they forget it. The handwriting is crazed, at some points looking more like a small child learning to write, and at others, it's the same concise, neat, and professional writing that takes up the rest of his spellbook. Then he takes a seat the the table, listening to to Alyra and the others talk.

Female Elf Wizard

Aya takes the parchment from Reiko. Thanks Reiko. Perhaps you can help me decipher it when we have time. We can talk about the supply at that time also.

"We should be alright here. Unless you believe there are agents of the enemy here in town."
He arched an eyebrow.
"Are there?"

I don't know, but if you feel secure, I'll answer any questions I can.

Female Elf Wizard

Would you feel more comfortable in the back room? It affords a little more privacy.
Aya looks around for Manton.

Manton is over near the bar, polishing a glass, trying to look like he's not listening...Huh?

Female Elf Wizard

Hay Manton, Would it be ok if we used the back room for a while?

Manton takes a deep breath and goes to open the back door.

Anybody need anything?

Female Elf Wizard

Aya looks around at her companions. I need to eat. I assume that you folks are also hungry.
Aya then looks at Manton. Yes, Manton, If you would, bring us something to eat in the back room and put it on our tab. Thanks.
Aya gets up and moves into the back room. Waits for her companions to come with her, then closes the door.
Once all are in the back room with the door closed she addresses Alyra.
At the risk of being rude, What are you? What do you mean, 'Father breathed life into me'. Who or what is your father? How old are you?

Alyra comes with the group.

Father breathed life into me at the end of the Titanswar...but I don't age like that, and I sleep - not like you think of it, but more like a dragon does - much more than I am awake. Father - he was Ulorimas - the titan. You know - or maybe you don't - at one time, the powers of the titans all but matched the gods, but at the end of the war, the gods stripped them of so much.

Alyra stops for a moment before continuing her flood of history very few humans had ever heard...

One of Father's gifts is that he could forsee the future. Other titans had created races - the giant races, for example - and so father created us, the Sisters. There are others like us, but each of us was created with a purpose. We do minor duties father would have done. His domain was water, so that's what we are.

Again she falls silent, as Manton brings food and drink. When he steps back out, she has a little more to say.

I am a little different from my sisters. I am the healer, while they serve...other purposes.

After another moment, she offers a question.

Ogres are degenerate giants, you know. Did you have plans on dealing with some?

Female Elf Wizard

Aya thinks about all that Alyra has said for a bit. Then responds, Thank you for telling us your story. I would have liked to meet your father, He sounds like a good person.
Then looking around her companions, Aya continues, I don't think we have a plan to deal with the ogre problem yet, but recognize that it must be done and very soon. We need to include Tania in that planning. Does anyone know where she is at the moment?

Liberty's Edge

Tania steps out from behind people and looks at everyone, then at Alyra in particular. You claim to be a healer. There are a number of us, maybe a third as many as there are ogres - and most of us have never even fought an ogre. Not a single one. I have, and they're tough...but even worse, they're strong. Nightmarishly strong, but they pale next to the weakest of the true giants. Have you ever had to deal with the aftermath of an ogre's attack?

Her words are direct...and harsh.

Sir Dailand of the Silver Shield was famed for fighting giants - true giants - in a time when many of the ancient giants still walked - the jotun. They were greater giants, and I healed him during his fight with Grothshank, the great giant chieftan who towered above his warriors by double. Most of those once called 'hill giants' are weak and degenerate versions of what once was.

Alyra's words are soft and soothing, even though they carry gravity that hangs heavy in the room.

Female Elf Wizard

Aya looks at Alyra and smiles. She then looks at Tania and frowns, saying Tania, you know where these ogres are and have experience with them. We do not. Therefore, we look to you to help us plan for the attack upon them.
Aya's words are also soft.

Reiko remains silent, letting the estrogen fight it out while his mind stays with the memories that the fog brought him.

Liberty's Edge

We need to seek out opportunities to catch as few as possible in a group at a time, preferably no more that two or three, and use range. They throw rocks, but not that accurately...still - don't get hit by one. Tjey'll break ribs. Stay behind any cover you can, even if it's one we have cornered .

Tania looks to see who's listening.

They'll have watches. We take them out first.

Female Human Arcanist 4/Arch. 1 | HP: 35/35 | AC: 13, T: 13, FF: 10 | Fort: +3, Ref: +4, Will: +6 | BAB: +2, CMB: +4, CMD: 17 | Init: +9, Perception: +6 |

Sakuro nodded as she considered Tania's words. Range was good. Summoning... probably limited effectiveness, since she couldn't keep them around all that long, so she'd need to focus on something else. Actually, maybe magic to help protect the others would be good - ogres were tough, and it probably wouldn't go so well if she tried to take one down all on her own. Hmm...

Inquisitor 2 | 10/21 | Init +4 | Perc +9 | AC:16 Tch:11 FF:15 | Fort +6 Ref +1 Will +6 | CMD:14 |

"Very well. That seems a good strategy. Tania, you said you'd have some arrows and bolts made for us this morning? I have ten shots. More if you have some bolts to sell me. And with some of the others buying bows and arrows from you, that greatly increases our ranged capability. When would be the best time to go?"

Liberty's Edge

Tania looks at Varuk, then sighs.

I'm afraid I've fallen behind, with all this. I have work to do - ask me again when I'm finished.

With that, Tania leaves the back room, taking food with her.

Female Elf Wizard

After finishing eating Aya stands up. I am going to try to sell the horses and the cart. Then see if there are any curing potions for sale. I will be back shortly.
She turns and walks outside.
After going to the horses she hooks them up to the cart and heads to the festival grounds to try to locate a buyer.
It seems to me that we had more to sell but it has been to long out-of-game for me. Anyone remember what all we had to sell?

Male Human Rogue (Unchained, Swashbuckler) L2 | AC19 (T14F15) CMD16 | HP 17/17 | Saves F1R7W-2 | Percep +2 | Init: +4 | Status: OK

Antonio listened to Tania, nodding more and more.
"Yes. Yes! That is good advice. Now; if we had a better map, and details as to where the ogre's positions are, we could perhaps calculate a better strategem. Without them, we will just have to scout carefully without alerting their sentries."
He thought a little more.
"I will probably invest in some more smokesticks myself. Could be handy..." He mused aloud.

As the discussion winds down, there's a knock at the door, then sheriff Perton slips in.

Thought ya might be int'rested in this.

He drops a bag on the table which thunks and jingles loudly.

There's more, too. That dwarf merchant says he'll give the group any two of his weapons. My swords were a bargain at six hunnerd gold.

Female Elf Wizard

While wondering around the festival grounds Aya tries to sell the horses and cart, as well as the formulary book. She is also trying to locate a source of potions and scrolls for sale.

Male Human Rogue (Unchained, Swashbuckler) L2 | AC19 (T14F15) CMD16 | HP 17/17 | Saves F1R7W-2 | Percep +2 | Init: +4 | Status: OK

Sherrif, you sold your swords? A debt that we will repay you, I'm sure.

Reiko finally stirs from his contemplations and watches Antonio count out the gold.
Well, now we need to see who needs a new weapon. Mine is fine as it is. I'm more interested in acquiring a few scrolls, perhaps of some offensive spells I don't have the skill to prepare along with the ones I need...

He stops the Sherrif before he leaves and asks
Sherrif, is there someone around who has such things for sale?

Reiko is interested in the ring and wondrous items

Female Elf Wizard

Aya is curious about the 2 rings, the 2 potions, and the 2 wondrous items.

Female Elf Wizard

Aya asks her companions if anyone in interested in the breastplate.

Sakuro looked down at her petite body, then back up at Aya. "Nope." she said. Armor was nice, but she'd go for a good suit of Mage Armor (or something similar) any day. "I like that Floating Disk spell, though..." That could be a handy one to put into her spellbook. If Aya really wanted it, though, Sakuro seemed willing to let her have it - she could always copy it from the other Wizard's spellbook later.

Female Elf Wizard

Aya thinks about the available scrolls and says, I think I will buy the Floating Disk scroll to copy into my spellbook. Any of you can then copy it from my book when you are ready.
She smiles and hands the merchant the required 25 gold.

Female Elf Wizard

Aya, sensing no disagreement from her companions, buys 5 Cure Light Wounds potions at 50 gold each (from party treasure) and gives one to Antonio, Reiko, Varuk, and Sakuro. She keeps the last one for herself.

"No; lovely as it is, a breastplate is not for me."

Antonio is, along with Aya, curious as to what the other items are like.
If possible, he would like to inquire about the marketplace for a Masterwork dueling sword, possibly even a Cold Iron masterwork dueling sword. (It is, unfortunately, exotic.)

Hortense himself comes to you with something truly wondrous. He brings a locked wooden box, and when he opens it, the contents are a beautiful vest, emerald green in color, with exceptional stitching in a floral pattern and four cargo style pockets.

It is said that the greatest healers in the kingdoms wear a vest like this. When one wears it, it is a never-ending healer's kit, producing bandages, ointments, and whatever, as needed. Additionally, I understand that if one is skilled enough, one can even heal something like strength sapped from the body, using it. A marvelous thing. This vest was commissioned by Baron Fordham, who was slain by a viscous wild beast before it could be delivered. I could let it go for a mere four thousand gold - and - would be willing to take payments from heroes like yourselves.

He allows everyone a good look, and even a feel of the fine satin, before packing it away, then producing a small vial of dusky-brown liquid.

The potion I hold here is said to give one strength surpassing, and to last for some decent time. I could pass this on for a pittance - three hundred gold?

While Hortense is there, the sheriff mentions that he's heard of a couple of items available in the festival grounds - There's this guy what has a magic hat. He says it makes light, and this other feller that has a ring he's been tryin' ta sell. He claims that if ya wear it, ya ain't gotta eat nor drink...but ain't nobody been wantin' ta not eat, ya know. I could check on prices.

Sheriff Perton looks at everyone, waiting for a reaction.

A bit of drool came out of Sakuro's mouth, and she absentmindedly wiped it away as she started examining the vest, clearly riveted by it. She had, ah, a certain degree of interest in items like these... though she wasn't planning to actually buy it. Hard lessons had taught her the important of saving her money for truly valuable items, not just buying every magical trinket that came along. Which didn't stop her from wanting them, of course, and she was clearly reluctant as she pulled back from the vest. "That ring could be useful, if someone needs to go a long time when food's uncertain." she noted.
