Avian Fletcher |
What did I get myself into? Avian wonders, not sounding scared, but shocked at seeing so many strange creatures in one day. Go back to hell, Sinspawn!
Avian fires his pistol at the creature, clicking his beak hard in concentration, then reloads.

"By the Horns, take that you wretched beast!"
Marcoul Antonius Jeggare |
By the nine layers of hell! Exclaims the priest of Asmodeus looking around. First an Earth Elemental, then a Rat... and that Sinspawn... Dark Lord! Quasit's have the ability to go invisible! Could that be the reason why we are being attacked! Listening intelligently for the sound of further spellcasting. My friends! Steel yourselves I think the creature we seek is upon us! If you have anyway to locate an invisible creature then attempt to do so!

Pavro Deverin |
VOW trying not to metagame too much here, when you say the rat suddenly appeared did it become visible as if it was invisible, or just run up from hiding?
Vors Malcroft |
Vors stretches out his senses, trying to pinpoint the foulness in the room to locate the demon. Detect evil. Will go the full three rounds in order to pinpoint the location of specific targets unless the quasit appears or his attention is needed elsewhere.
Thandion |

Thandion stricks out then step down the stairs to lure the rat down to where more can get to it.

"Close the doorso it can't sneak out."
The Voice of Wisdom |
The rat goes up in a poof of smoke as Vors is almost knocked out as he looks at the orange pool. There may well be a quasit around as well, but as long it's anywhere near that pool, it's going to be impossible to detect it, and it probably knows this. There is a long pause as the party waits for something else to happen, but nothing further appears to attack the party.
Once again in quasi-combat mode; there are certain trigger actions still present, but until you do them, you're not going to be hindered.
Pavro Deverin |
Pavro places a hand on Aressa's pale brow and asks anxiously,
"Does anyone know what's the matter with 'Ress? What did that thing do to her?"
Severus Aldenhyne |
Having nothing better to do, Severus attempts to start a conversation with the quasit.
"Hello? Miss Quasit?"
He attempts to take on a non-threatening (but not docile) stance.
Diplomacy (Untrained)

Marcoul Antonius Jeggare |
Listening to the dribble coming from the elf Marcoul scoffs. The one creature I could legitimately define as evil that we suspect resides in this place and still the elf goes on with his foolishness. Its amazing he has survived as long as he has in this world with this kind of naivety. Grumbling under his breath about jumping off a cliff Marcoul frowns as he goes to reach into his satchel and then stops. No, no holy water and I doubt it would work. This room is far too large to randomly throw nets and the like. We would need some concrete way of seeing invisible creatures... or making the creature come to us. I wonder if there is some way we could force the deamon to reveal itself.
Cast: Detect Magic. Spending three rounds to detect all aura's in the room and where they are coming from.
Thandion |
"I totally agree that throwing a net randomly wouldn't work, but before when I was detecting magic couldn't see into the pool here and net would work quite well at trapping or forcing a creature out from hiding if is was in the pool. You are probably correct about the holy water but I thought it might counteract the pool's magic for a moment also reveling anything hiding in it. But that is okay, we'll let the cowardly demon hide anywhere it likes." Thandion says starting to let his anger show.
The Voice of Wisdom |
Marcoul finds no auras in most of the room, but finds that looking at the orange well, or even close to it, almost knocks him out. Whatever it is, it's evil is outdone only by it's raw magic power. Just like Vors, he's pretty sure that the quasit could easily hide near it, and fear no detection. Both Marcoul and Vors think it would take a lot of holy water to have even a remote effect on the pool. Severus' attempts at peaceful contact illicit no immediate response. It occurs to Marcoul that the orange pool is the only thing of interest in the room that would be even remotely worth defending as vigorously as it has been.
Pavro Deverin |
Pavro produces a net and a vial of holy water from his pack and holds them up,
"If anyone wants to make use of them, I doubt I'll be a very effective deliverer... But I thought I'd be prepared. But I think we should retreat for a bit until 'Ress is better, she's clearly not herself, and I don't bring much more to the table in a fight I'm afraid."
Marcoul Antonius Jeggare |
Spellcraft 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
What on earth is that thing? If it really is worth defending, then it has to be something of great value. The aura alone is staggering! Reeling back away from the powerful pool the priest of the First among Fallen steels himself as he dredges forth what little he might be able to ascertain from the auras of the pool.
Avian Fletcher |
Thandion, why am I carrying this blade for you? If you won't use it on a quasit, an invisible evil demon thing that is summoning sin monsters to kill us, what WILL you use it on? I don't think we're going to find anything much more deserving of a swift, bladed end than this thing. Avian says grumpily.
Marcoul Antonius Jeggare |
I can't believe that the overgrown chicken has better sense then a hundred year old elf! Stifling a grin Marcoul nods in agreement, but still understanding that anything that could is said could potentially under surveillance, Marcoul shoots a knowing glance towards Pavro trying to catch his eye.
Well! The priest announces. Even if there is was Quasit here, it hasn't stopped us yet, nor done more then conjure a few measly creatures! The priest motions theatrically towards the door making ready to leave. Now that we have found this place, we can inform the rest of the town. By tomorrow we should have a full salvage team down here, augmented by guards and wizards. We can have this place sealed, inventoried and off to market by the end of the week. What does one puny daemon matter. Anything it was protecting we will have taken, and there's nothing that it can do!
Aid Another: Pavro (Bluff) 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
So what I am trying to do here is push Pavro towards making a bluff and I am setting it up for him using Aid Another. I think Marcoul would have realized that this places greatest defense is the fact no one seems to know much about it. Hopefully by us threatening to leave the deamon will be left with no other options by to try to outright attack us.
Pavro Deverin |
Pavro's basically waiting for Aressa to get better and doesn't want anything to do with the Quasit until that point though.
"'Ress you feeling any better what's the matter?" Pavro asks anxiously.
"Just not, its, arrr, stupid.." Aressa mutters shaking her head.
The Voice of Wisdom |
There has been no sign of activity other than yourself since the rat disappeared after getting killed. If there is a quasit, it's a patient one, and a quiet one. Marcoul is able to see that the magic of the pool is made of interwoven bits and pieces, but what those pieces are is just not clear without more knowledge of the pool itself.
I would just like to remind those who made the perception roll earlier with the sinspawn appeared and those with knowledge skills that there's clues out there just waiting for someone to roll for them.
Severus Aldenhyne |
Severus approaches the orange font carefully.
He attempts to examine the orange font from a distance, looking carefully for any remarkable features or designs to determine its purpose.

The Voice of Wisdom |
You all examine the pool, but nothing in the pool or elsewhere in the room gives away any clues as to how it's magic functions.
Thandion |
Pavro I'll buy you another net, I suspect that even if this doesn't destroy it you won't want it back. Taking the offered net Thandion he gives it a practice throw then walks up next the pool. "If you have magical sight please look this way and check if the demon moves away from this area." With he gives the net a bit of a spin as throws it to open it up and fall across the pool. " I don't expect to catch him just scare him off and hopefully net any more sinspawn that try to come out of the pool."
Severus Aldenhyne |
"I am almost certain that the most recent sinspawn we fought came from the font on the raised area. And the font seems to be weaker in its magic now than it was previously. Perhaps that means that as sin is spawned by the font (for want of a better term), the font is itself weakened. But I am still curious if or how it is activated."
The Voice of Wisdom |
Just to make sure everyone is on the same page, the 3' deep pool on the upper dias is orange colored water that looks like it should be really, really hot, but is in fact seems to be really, really cold. This is the one radiating all the magic. The larger pool below is just a normal pool with no magic.
Thandion |

[ooc]Just to be clear on my post that is the one the net is being thrown over.
Thandion |
Nods to Severus "Sounds logical, the only things we know about this place is that seems to be a place for Alaznist's followers and they worshiped Lamashtu. If it were triggered by we could try words important to her in Thassilonian like 'IRA' which is wrath, I believe, correct me if I'm wrong"
history: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 for other likely words/
The Voice of Wisdom |
It's been about three minutes since Aressa was bitten. The net settles on top of the water, and you think it will stay there for a minute or so before it settles down to the bottom of the pool.
Marcoul Antonius Jeggare |
Nodding at the sage, the noble priest's eyes continue to wander about the area. Yes, I agree. Considering that this space seems to have been dedicated as a cathedral to the Mother of Monsters I would expect that she would want something a bit more... vile then a simple command word. The Mother of Beasts does not give her blessing for free... something has to be given over to her in return. As he eyes scan the room they come to lay on the Sinspawn, and it is almost as if you can hear the gears turn in the dark priests head. Its only conjecture, but try throwing the Sinspawn back into the pool. Perhaps it would respond to a sacrifice of some sort.
Pavro Deverin |
"Ten gold says its blood," Pavro says glumly, "I'm tempted to pour in holy water, but well... Its expensive to waste. If we could figure out how to activate it we could kill these things one at a time in bite size chunks, it can't have an infinite number of it'd have been used to take over the world long since right?"
I bet its blood this is the Runelord of Wrath right? Its the closest thing I can think of to the theme.
Avian Fletcher |
Avian continues to gaze around the room nervously, feeling a bit left out: killing monsters is his speciality, not magic fountains and invisible demons. He strains his ears to hear any sign of the invisible quasit, or notice footprints.
Perception Check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Whatever we do, we should do quickly. I don't like the idea of standing around discussing theories when there is an invisible quasit loose in the room.
Severus Aldenhyne |
Severus nods towards the others.
"Well, there is one way to discern if the hypothesis is correct."
He boldly approaches the font of cold lava.
"I am also not entirely certain that this font was used for demonic worship, or this room even. There is little that I can tell that has to deal with demons, just the purity of wrath itself, perhaps, if a philosophical manifestation such as that is recognizable."
He approaches carefully, even if boldly, ready to defend himself at a moment's notice.
Total Defense and move 30 ft.
The Voice of Wisdom |
I'll get more up tomorrow, but the upshot is that when you try a blood drop, a creature appears, and the well weakens in power. And, I'm going to assume you do this until the well goes inert, because it makes the scene much simpler. Through it all, you see no sign of a quasit, though a few times, you think you hear some flapping near the ceiling around the well area. But, I'll get the relevant rolls and their results up tomorrow so we can move on.
The Voice of Wisdom |
Unless you feel like slicing your hand open to do so, no; a simple prick of the finger for a single blood drop is sufficient.
1d6 ⇒ 4 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
1d6 ⇒ 3 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3, sinful bite
You slaughter the creatures fairly quickly as they emerge, especially the first one, which is hindered by the net (which is beyond practical repair at this point), but they do land some blows on some of the less combative party members. Marcoul gets bitten, taking 3 damage as his head tries to fill with thoughts of anger and wrath (Will Save DC 12 or be nauseated for 1d6 ⇒ 3 minutes; Pavro also gets struck by a claw as he tries to back up his eidolon, taking 3 damage. Fortunately, that is the extent of the damage. Through it all, you occasionally hear what could be the sound of wings near the pool, but that is the only indication you get that there might be a quasit around.
Marcoul Antonius Jeggare |
Will save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Reeling from the bite Marcoul staggers back, his head swimming with foreign thoughts of Murder and Rage, his vision slowly narrowing to pinpoints. Summoning up a deep inner well of willpower the Dark Priest takes several deep calming breaths. My will is my OWN! The noble utters though gritted teeth. As the red haze starts to retreat Marcoul defensively raises his Wand of Cure Light Wounds, and with a curt gesture heals himself and Pavro.
Cast Cure Light Wounds on myself. (47 charges remaining) 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Cast Cure Light Wounds on Pavro. (46 charges remaining) 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
His wounds quickly knit back together, and no more creatures appear from the well the Priest of the Hooved One raises his inverted pentagram forth and casts Detect Magic. As the magic floods into the Marcoul, his eyes momentarily turn a burgundy red and glitter with a otherworldly menace before returning back to their soft brown hue.
Using detect magic to attempt to locate the invisible quasit.
