So book one of Dead Suns is already sold out of its initial print run.
Hmmm. So much for me putting off my decision on whether to start subscribing. Crunch time is here.

You know, Tendal reminds me of Colin Firth in Kingsman: The secret service. If Tendal was real, he'd be perfect for the role. That's just awesome. :)
(I haven't seen the movie, so, I don't really know what he's like but I could still see Tendal being a "guy with a cane" by day and "super butt-kicking guy" by night. And doing it with the utmost class. That'd just be cool). :)

I don't recall any nays.

I'm pretty sure the Jewel is the vessel that carried us to the Cove. That's without looking it up, mind you, but no other name jumps to mind.
Edit: Confirmed.

Well, Gristav is. We've had some additional clues suggesting (at least to Gristav) an immanent attempt on the Cloud. He feels he needs to relay all those details.
So he'll try, but we can do this nearby business first. Let's do let Braddon know we're nearby, though.

I thought I remembered a list of what was to be sold, but I didn't take the time to go look for it.
Consider it done without having to roleplay out the negotiations, unless you were really looking forward to it.

Okay, to make things easier for everyone: Link of some form
I gotta say, you trip me out, Gristav. For someone who likes to yada yada yada in the gameplay thread(which is fine, not knocking it), it blows my mind you have difficulty typing: [url= and [/url] before/after these links you copy and paste.
Yeah, I guess 11 keystrokes is pretty tough to manage sometimes. :P
Sorry, just figured I'd whine a bit over a minor annoyance. I'll quit crying now and move on. :)
Gristav |
The yada yada comes when I have time for it. The quickly-posted link was between some other things that I expect my boss would feel more important.

Sorry, Gristav! Sorry. Here lately it seems I've been bellyaching over a lot of meaningless nothings. Mainly RL stuff but it is obviously carrying over. It's all pointless really, yet, I continue to allow a bunch of tiny nothings get to me which is dumb. Anyhow, I really don't care how you go about doing anything which makes no sense as to my whining/crying in the first place. Chalk it up to tired and cranky and being an "old crotchety hermit crab". Not so old and crotchety as to sitting on the front porch with a shotgun yelling "Whippersnappers!" but it doesn't feel to far off. :P
Anyway, there's really no excuse. Sorry.

I sincerely regret any degree of buzzkill I have ever been. Further, if you gain any peace from giving me hell, I'll take it. I've had bad days, and sometimes one plays tackle football to put some hits on, and blow off steam.
I can take those hits, especially with a beer and handshake after, as above.

I will be traveling for the next 6 days. I should have internet access along the way, but my online time will be limited. Unless you guys decide to do something like storm Maskyr's Island with a holocaust cloak and a wheelbarrow, let's plan on wrapping up our evening out by this time next week, and we'll move on to the next day when I'm home again.

Sorry, guys. I ended up being too tired/busy to do any actual posting in the hotels at the end of the days. In six days, we drove over 2000 miles, visited two science museums, saw the world's largest Czech egg, a giant Van Gogh painting, and the total solar eclipse, and toured an actual salt mine and a Frank Lloyd Wright house.
I note that one of the installments of the newly-announced Return of the Runelords AP is Secrets of Roderic's Cove. Since it's book 3 of the AP, clearly canonical Roderic's Cove is going to be home to more dangerous opponents than Harvey Read.

68° F (20° C) year-round. It's 650 feet (198 m) below the surface.
Honestly, it was really pleasant down there. Very dwarven. We took a tour through an area that was mined in the 1950s, and it was still full of trash left behind by the miners that looked like it had just been set down this morning. No life/no moisture = no decay/disintegration. You could still read the labels on the soup cans and candy wrappers and cardboard boxes. It was wild. A storage company actually owns all the emptied caverns besides the ones where the tour runs, and they store film and documents and movie costumes and things because the place is a natural preservative and basically oblivious to natural disasters.
Oh, and it's great for people with allergies. No mold/pollen/etc.

Most impressive mine I've been in is this one - the Superpit in Kalgoorlie. It's big...
Braddon Hurst |
Wait a second... the Superpit is in Kalgoorlie. Who builds a city over a mine... oh wait, we're Australian. And there's Mount Isa.
:-)
For me... Jenolan Caves
Phillip Hargreaves |
Superpit history is actually pretty interesting. Sits over what was called the golden mile which was a series of rich gold veins tapped out early on in the gold rush.
Then modern day extraction comes and they realise the whole area is full of low grade ore (about 2 parts per million)... so they decided just to mine the whole lot. As it grew they needed to demolish streets, etc until it got to its current massiveness.
What really struck me though was they excavated all the old mine shafts complete with timber, metal struts, etc. The mine employed guys whose sole job was to sift through the rock and remove all the old steel so it wouldnt jam the crusher.
When my Dad swung me a visit (Mining was considered before I went Petroleum) the dude showing me around took me past the guys who dredged the rock for debris. He used it as a "Pay attention in school or youll end up with a crap job like this". Definitely stuck with me :P
As an aside there are some pretty awesome caves along the nullabor. Been in an underground cavern big enough to play football in

Gris and I are quietly observing. I've had a lot going on. I might burden you with it, perhaps later today. After a post in gameplay, susely.
Five years, I think, deserves something proscenic.

I'm in Chicago as support to my Mrs, participating in a trial of a stem-cell-based therapy to hopefully recover what was lost in her stroke. So, I'll either have no time to post, lots of time to post, or lots of time and no energy. I ask your indulgence for me, and your best wishes for her.
Gristav |
Oh, this isn't a sad thing. The stroke was a sad thing, four years ago. This thing is hopeful.
Thank you.
