Meantime, the literati laity learn of librams large and leatherbound...
...the same stuff Gris started with, a Grease, a Silent Image, and cantrips for Prestidigitation, Detect Magic, and Ray of Frost.
Whenever he wakes up (and he has no especial plan to do so, nor to sleep late), he heads for the kitchen to see what use he might make of himself there. Fresh ice, for one.

It's the Intersect! Did none of you watch "Chuck?" He played D&D and read Game of Thrones and collected Star Wars memorabilia and went to Comic-Con and got the most beautiful woman on TV since Lynda Carter was Wonder Woman. And Adam Baldwin's in it! And Jeffster!
Man, I loved that show.
Gristav |
I did too. I seem to recall it being near-time to My Name is Earl.
That's IT! We can teach Samaritha to do the 'Jump'!
;)
Plus, Chuck theme song, the only Pork that's kosher.
Say, if Javell doesn't chime in soon, how do I proceed?
Javell DeLeon |
HA! That truly is a great show. Jeffster! Those guys rock. So funny. Highly recommend to any of you who have not seen it.
And yes, Sarah is way hot. Right there with the Lynda Carter, Barbara Eden's of the world.
Every year it was on the verge of being canceled, yet, ONLINE support was so overwhelming, they actually kept it running for 5 years. A good show with good writing. And it wasn't another LA Law(insert city here) show.
I'll give you some advice on how to proceed, Gristav. If he doesn't chime in I'd say just take Snake's staff from him and beat him to death with it. Hey, if Javell can't post, that's his problem as to what happens to his character. He should've thought about the consequences of not posting. You don't come to play in this game and slack. No siree! That kinda crap WILL NOT be tolerated in this game! You slack... YOU DIE! :)
By the way, the latter part of this is what Joana pm'd me when I was asked to join. Hey, I'm just as scared as you. Just don't give in to your fear, alright, fellas?
Do we accept the fear? Absolutely. Just don't give into it. ;)
Braddon Hurst |
I thought it might have been Chuck, but didn't remember any gazing into someone else's eyes. I only got to see the first season of Chuck and Burn Notice, both of which I discovered at the same time and both of which I loved for totally different reasons. I'm glad it made it several more years- I'll track it down one day.
Sarah was gorgeous but I always felt guilty crushing on her as I usually don't go for the stereotypical beautiful, model bombshells, but she was smart and tough and strong as well as sexy so despite the great story reasons for sticking her in a teeny fast food uniform and fighting her off against another beautiful deadly assassin, I just couldn't get past the fan service enough to truly enjoy the moment. Thanks for the link though :-)
Phillip Hargreaves |
Just in case the interrogation team needs some inspiration:
Though it might be a little grimdark for you...
Braddon Hurst |
That's a confession, not an interrogation. Completely different. :-)
We want the truth about every detail of Weatherby's life, especially his association with Lil. We don't want a signature on a piece of paper with a convenient story written on it.
Braddon likes the idea of the fingers though. As a scribe, Weatherby probably likes his fingers as they are. >-)
Braddon Hurst |
Braddon has mentioned the loot from Weatherby several times. What's going on with that? Are we keeping it? Splitting it? Giving it back?
I notice it hasn't appeared on our loot list yet. :-)
Braddon thinks it belongs to him, Malkith and Dayn. As a gamer who wants everyone to have fun, I have no issues splitting it with the entire party, either under their or Saul's request. Saul could also decide to return it to Weatherby if said scribe cooperates and we let him go, which Braddon won't like but would obey. And then Joanna wouldn't have to come up with every copper Weatherby was carrying and stick it on our loot list :-P
Javell DeLeon |
Who keeps track of the loot? More often than not, it's the players. I say that because it's usually me. :p
As far as splitting, I'm not one of those players who's gonna scream because he doesn't get part of the loot. It's just not that big o' deal to me. Plus, my guy wasn't there and frankly, I don't think he'd take any of it anyway even if he was. So, honestly, I'd agree that the three you mentioned should get it. Although, I'm not really a fan of a former player turned NPC getting any treasure. So if it were up to me, I'd divide it between yourself and Malkith. But that's just my take on it. I don't really care who gets it, to be honest. Of course, Gristav and Phillip may have a different take on it.
Gristav |
Gris won't request a share. I could see Braddon or Malkith polishing Sam's apple by sharing to her for her risk, and that sharing leading to the thought that Gris was also present for some of it. I don't see how to exclude Dayn, or how to include Javell, not in the short term.
If it goes back to Weatherby, we might get it later, with only PCs on the credits list for that episode. If it goes to Saul's coffers, he can pay it out later, perhaps after washing the blood off it.
Part of the question is what happens to Weatherby. Some of the endings of that episode make Gris more or less happy to accept a share.
If Gris' soft-heartedness is making things difficult, know that it doesn't feel easy from my side, either.
Gristav |
I suppose it's not clear from my post, Gristav will continue towards the rousing of the ladies, after speaking with Braddon.
Braddon Hurst |
Gristav goes to the stairs, saying, "You can be a better man, today, than yesterday, or two years ago.", after the descending Braddon.
Gristav was already on his was to the staff rooms when he added softly, "I would guess that you are."
Aawwwww. :-D
Malkith Deraythen |
Sorry for holding y'all up, folks. Some plague bearers came through our office last week and apparently "blessed" me with the mark of Nurgle. I'll try to update before the end of the night; if I don't feel free to press on and I'll catch up when I can.
Joana |
Re Weatherby's loot: I haven't gotten it up on the campaign tab yet mostly due to holiday busyness. You'll need to get one of the spellcasters to identify the cape. Let's see if Malkith can hit Spellcraft DC 16.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
Yup, before going to bed last night, Malkith ascertained that the silvery cape is a catching cape.
Joana |
More the fact that he'd certainly have something to say, and you'd have something to say back, and Ethel would have to be introduced, and we're suddenly playing a whole scene in retrospect.
With everyone's rooms opening off the same hallway and only one set of stairs to the second floor, mornings at the Gold Goblin have to have the timing of a bedroom farce. :P
Gristav |
Didn't we have just such a scene, with Gristav talking 'with' Samaritha, through her door, while Sam was actually in Malkith's room?
I think it's a good idea, Phil +1 running into Gris, a possible bridge-mending. Or a burning, I'll admit. If the timing works.
Oh, to be at one table.
edit: Joanna, just so it doesn't get missed, since I know I could miss it, as I usually follow the new message flags. I posted 2 minutes before your Tendal post.
Joana |
Right now my goal is to get you guys through breakfast and on to the scheduled delivery. I'm sure you'll have a chance to meet Ethel some other time. (I think only Tendal and Samaritha have met her. I'll have to go back and check to see if that's right.)
I'm going to leave Gristav to decide the lady or the tiger (that is, upstairs or down), and Phil and Ethel will pass through the kitchen after he's taken one set of stairs or the other.
edit: Joanna, just so it doesn't get missed, since I know I could miss it, as I usually follow the new message flags. I posted 2 minutes before your Tendal post.
Yeah, thanks, I caught that we were typing at the same time. :)
Thornborn |
I'm going to leave Gristav to decide the lady or the tiger (that is, upstairs or down)
And I'm going to let Braddon and Malkith have a veto to Gris getting more involved. If either request I have Gris stay out, Gris will decide Braddon has a right to moral outrage, if not to committing outrage, and Gris will go upstairs. Otherwise, down.
Braddon Hurst |
I'm happy to have Gristav come down in response to screaming, or to investigate, but since he went to two doors and waited (pining like a penitent, though not for long :-) I figure Braddon has an extra minute or two on Gristav from this critical juncture.
You are welcome to come down in a few posts time if Malkith agrees.
Gristav |
Oh, you're ahead, but carrying a brimming pan of hot water (which should steam evocatively in the coolness of the cellars).
So, there'll still be aught worth talking about, in a few posts time? :)
Joana |
Yeah, not only is Gristav several minutes behind due to talking to Samaritha and then Thuvalia and then Samaritha again, but he also doesn't know where he's going once he gets down the stairs and, iirc, is limited to his prestidigitation firefly in the dark corridor. He'll get there, but it will take him a bit of exploring by cantrip candlelight.
Joana |
On the subject of lighting and the basement, I'm presuming that Braddon took a candle when he left the sub-basement or he would have been stumbling in the dark trying to make it back to the kitchen. Around the table, I'd give a player a hard time about what light source he was using, but in PbP, it's a lot quicker to just cut to the end result ("How are you going to see where you're going?" "Uh, is there a candle or something around here I can light from the lamp and take with me?").
On that note, when/if Gristav notices the stairs down are dark, he can take a light from the kitchen as well, if he wants. He just doesn't know exactly where Weatherby is being questioned and will have to figure it out. (When he gets close enough, he'll hear voices and see the illumination, of course. It's far from an insurmountable obstacle.)
Malkith Deraythen |
I've got no issues with Gristav stumbling upon us in the basement - it's not like any of us have our pants around our ankles. If Gristav's presence does cause any problems, Malkith can always blame Braddon for being careless :P
Joana |
Merry Christmas! Apparently this song was a big YouTube hit six years ago so you've probably already seen it, but this was the first holiday season I enjoyed it. :)
Gristav |
I've always liked 'Christmas Wrapping' :)
Edit: Ok, Joana, that's really cool.
Phillip Hargreaves |
Indeed a Merry Yule to you all. One hopes that food, friends and family have rendered you as insensate as I find myself right now :P
Gristav |
Malkith Deraythen |
I trust everyone had a good (and profitable) holiday.
As a heads up, I'm taking next week off from work to have some minor surgery, so I may not be posting much in the days to come. Then again, stuck at home recovering may give me more than ample time to keep up with things here. Should I go silent, Malkith is going to conduct reading while he waits for the shipment to arrive focusing on the day ahead.
Gristav |
We might be fairly intimidating, a wizard at every table, an elf at every door, and the hobbit cleaning his nails with a dirk...
