It's not worth going back for at this point... Just let me know.
Yeah, you're totally right. Definitely not worth going back for at this point.
I always agree with the GM's rulings.
Always.
Didn't Dyrant really want a haversack?
EDIT- Of course Chris rolls three 6's to make his point :)

Did the orc-ape drop down beyond his negative Con? If so, the Smile Evil ended and Glimmil's AC is indeed back to 24.
If he's just unconscious and bleeding, Glim's still 27.
Not sure why Glim dismounted into a flank, he was trying to make his 5ft steps take him towards Atol and use Cog as a speedbump that the bandits would have to provoke AoOs from to reach him.
I'll probably need some insight to post, since it would affect whether or not Glimmil's flanked and at 3HP or has the ability to 5ft step to Atol and has 12HP.
EDIT- I guess, FWIW, if Glimmmil did intend to keep fighting the bandits instead of getting closer to one of the 3 "healers", he wouldn't have leapt off Cog and probably would've continued fighting defensively to survive?

Glimmil |
Going to post actions for whichever situation Glimmil ended up in, which is either:
a) He dismounted to L,5 or M,5 and wasn't hit because he wasn't flanked.
b) He dismounted to N,5 and got hit for -9HP because he could be flanked.
Round 6, Init 15
Swift action to lay hands: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Glimmil wants to be in M,5 regardless of where he was - to stop being flanked (and make it impossible to keep being flanked, unless someone tumbles through him or Cog), or to close to attack an adversary.
If he was in N,5 then he gets +2 to his attack against SL4 due to the flank with Toffit, before he moves. If he began in L,5 or M,5 then there is no flank on the attack (which is what I assumed in the modifier below)
Glimmil attack (hammer, power) vs SL4: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 (see above, add +2 more if Glimmil was hit this round)
Glimmil damage (hammer, power): 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Cog attack (bite, power) vs CH2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Cog damage (bite, power): 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Cog trip: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

And I'm going to call it after the last bite. The baboons can't be reasoned with and the party can quickly kill the rest of them.
Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted |
Dyrant grunts as the last baboons are put to the cudgel.
"Men consorting with apes is unnatural," are Dyrant's final words on the subject before asking to borrow the wand from Atol.
"Atol, if I may?" Dyrant goes over to Dr. Toffitt with a apologetic look in his eyes, the wand tapping the good Doctor repeatedly.
"Sorry for the singe, old friend. There were so many, the battle so confusing...it had a bigger blast than I thought. Heh. Here you go, let's tend those wounds."
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Healing
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 Healing
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Healing
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Healing
"Is that enough? Glim, can I tend to you?"
Sorry, Atol, Dyrant needs to make amends. :)
Dyrant hits himself once for good measure.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Healing
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |
"Thanks. It's alright, Dyrant. No lasting harm. Do give a fellow warning next time, though. We do have a common tongue that enemies such as these are unlikely to comprehend. Come to think of it, I doubt they understand much of the common tongue."
Toffitt glances over the bandits' bodies, watching for signs of life. "Atol, Dyrant, would you consent to binding the survivors' wounds with me? I believe they should face Cauldron's judgement. Except this one, I'm afraid." With an efficient incision and a sorrowful grimace, Toffitt makes certain that the half-orc does not recover.
"Perhaps we should search the basement now..."
Finneas Glenn |
HP = 16/31
Finneas briefly prays to Kord and heals his own wounds.
CMW 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (1, 6) + 4 = 11
HP = 27/31
"I'll look in the basement while you bind the survivors. We can search this room once we've searched for the Cuthbert below."
Finneas heads towards the basement stairs after retrieving his morninstar.
Atol Lem |
Atol watches as Dyrant drains the wand of 5 charges (so far!) and tries to find voice to stop his friend.
A quick channel or two in the safety of the hallway would have had a similar effect and been far less costly! Such waste!
Ahh well. Dyrant is feeling guilty. Perhaps I should cudgel him for his sins.
Atol feels alive and well after the battle, pleased with the outcome and with his role in it. Just in case,
"Are most folks still a little wounded? Gather around, and away from our opponents, and I'll channel once to top everyone off. That was a hard fight, and there may be another like it in the basement."
Channel energy for 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10 worth of healing.
That done Atol speaks again,
"We should save the looting until we're sure this place is cleared. We need to find the Cuthbertines if they're still alive."
Glimmil |
"Why, yes... I seemed to anger all those monkeys in the room, and a couple seems snuck through." Glimmil replies, while inspecting Cog for any injuries.
As the gnome sees Finneas making for the stairs, he adds, "Finn! Perhaps we should go together. You know, in case there's more monkeys?"
Glimmil HP: 14/42
Cog HP: 28/28

Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted |
Dyrant grits his teeth as Atol rubs his divine spark all over the party, trying to keep his jealousy in check.
It should have been me.
"Uh, thank you for the healing, Atol. Must be nice to be so favored," Dyrant spits out.
"Well, let me just finish looking around here...then we can head to the basement, that way." Dyrant looks through the bodies of the men and half-orc.
Waiting for Detect Magic results and casual search of area/bodies.
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |
Why are Dyrant and Atol looking at each other like two quarreling lovers. One looks angry, the other suspicious.
Toffitt finishes up binding wounds and follows Finneas. He has his wand in hand.
GM_Chris |
The only aura in the kitchen is moderate conjuration from the backpack on the half-orc baboon. [spoiler=DC 24 Spellcraft]Handy Haversack[/ooc]
The room is filled with loot, much of it evidently looted from the inn itself. Thousands of coins (2680 copper pieces, 1953 silver pieces, 742 gold pieces, & 18 platinum pieces to be exact) are stacked and bagged. There are paintings, sculptures, silverware, wine, etc. On a pile next to a bust of monkey is the head of a human that fits the description of Sarcem (the cleric you're looking for).
Downstairs, it looks like a battlefield (kind of like the kitchen now). This room is dominated by several large tanks, kegs, and other brewing equipment. The tanks are now empty and hacked to pieces, and the floor is a stinking morass of muddy earth soaked with a mixutre of beer, mead, and blood. The only body left here is that of Sarcem who is still clutching a mace.
There are three open doors and one closed door. it is a solid, iron-reinforced wooden door that bulges at the seams, almost as if the wood had melted and expanded to clog its frame. The iron bands that reinforce the door are caked with frost, as are the boides of three thugs who lie huddled on the ground before it. One of the bodies grips an extinguished torch.
There is a sign on the ground in a nearby room that reads, "No fire beyond this point!"
Atol Lem |
Atol stops and makes a brief prayer over the the body of Sarcem before searching it for the missing wands.
"Hrm, they don't seem to be here. Where would you hide them if you knew you were about to die?"
Atol looks for any cudgel like graffiti or symbology in the basement before coming around to the door caked with frost.
"They must be in here."
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |
Toffitt wears a grim expression as he surveys the scene.
"Dyrant, have you any idea what sort of magics were at play here?"
Dyrant Maynor, the Pre-Sainted |
Cast Detect Magic.
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21 Spellcraft
"Hmmm...this sack is magical and is remarkably similar to the one I held just a few days ago, but we'll need to take it back to Skie to see if she can identify it. Unless one of you can identify it?" Dyrant looks to the rest of the group.
Dyrant looks inside the sack for what might be in there.
After that he'll go over to the piles of gold, silver, and copper. "How sad. Ill gotten gains no doubt stolen from this inn...mayhaps we can return the money to the victims?" Dyrant's mind goes to the lizards that they saw eating flesh outside. "Or maybe not." Dyrant shivers.
"To the basement, eh?" Dyrant says, ignoring the money for right now.
* * *
"Indeed, Doctor...one can only imagine that the magics that happened here."
Cast Detect Magic.
Scan the room slowly.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 Perception
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |
Dr. Toffitt listens at the warped wood of the door. Twould be ingenuous to lock up the wands by sealing them in warped wood and ice. But perhaps there are more dangerous wards within...
Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Glimmil |
Descending into the basement, Glimmil wheezes ever so lightly from his injuries as he holds onto his shoulder.
"We should... take our time down here," he suggests before helping Dyrant and Toffitt look around.
Take 10 to give them both +2 aid actions to their Perception checks, if they are not going to Take 20 themselves.
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |
"Perhaps you're right, Glim. No need to rush things. Dyrant, have you ascertained the magic yet?" Toffitt begins to listen in earnest at the door, his ears and eyes keen for any signs of life (or unlife).

Dyrant whistles as he examines all the items and symbols.
"Wow," Dyrant says as he looks for a place to sit for a moment, overcome all the stuff he's learned.
"Atol, quit playing in the cold, come here for a moment. Doctor, you as well. Finn, Glim, a quick discussion." Dyrant looks serious.
"I'm not sure we can keep these items as they belong to the Church, but we should use them now until we can ask about them. Each of you should take one of these potions, they will heal up some damage should you need healing." Dyrant passes out potions.
Dyrant hands the potion of Magic Fang to Glim. "Glim, this will enhance Cog's ability to fight magically protected foes more easily."
Dyrant holds up the light mace.
"This object here is infused with divine energies...evil will barely stand against you while you wield it. I am unsure who would be best served by it...until we see if the Church wishes it back."
Dyrant holds up the ring. "Again, I'm not sure we should keep this, but it will protect the wielder from some attacks."
Dyrant begins to shove the banded mail into the haversack. "I'm not sure this armor suits any of us, but I could be wrong."
The headband is presented to Atol. "Atol, for the time being, you should wear this. It will..um..enhance your already strong connection to St. Cuthbert. Sadly, it will not help me...and you should wear it until we check in with your leader at the Church."
Lastly, Dyrant holds up the holy symbols and points out the different gods connected to the symbols, then the Ebon Triad.
"I'm not sure what it all means yet, but it can't be good. We should be cautious."
Dyrant stands and looks to the cold area that affected Atol and Dr. Toffitt.
1d20 + 10 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 10 + 11 = 41 Spellcraft: what is causing the cold?
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |
Dr. Toffitt sniffs at the potions.
Craft (Alchemy) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Craft (Alchemy) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Craft (Alchemy) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
"The baboon dander seems to have my nose stuffed up. Definitely a light curative draught here. Not sure about these other two."
Doctor Abner Svengalu Toffitt |
"Achoo!" Toffitt reels from the cold a bit. "Atol, I don't know about you, but I feel about to faint. Perhaps I should brew up an elixir for withstanding the elements, though this cold may be too intense for that..."
As Dyrant describes the items, he says, "Hm. Well, the mace looks well suited to my style of fighting—light enough to bob and weave in a feint and a jab. You say it has divine properties?"
He reflects for a moment on the holy symbols. "I may be overly suspicious, but my suspicions do have a fairly good track record. We have seen today men from a minor gang fighting alongside men who do not bear that gang's markings. And now we see holy symbols bearing the symbols of three fell gods. I smell a conspiracy that may well involve many aspects of Cauldron's underworld."
Spellcraft 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 to see if the Doctor knows about spells that allow one to speak with dead souls.
Considering for another moment, he concludes, "It is lucky we were able to recover Sarcem's head. I regret being macabre, but perhaps his spirit could speak to us through it. He may have much to tell us."
Finneas Glenn |
K. Religion 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 251d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 71d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 121d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
"I can make two of us resistant to cold, how many of us can fit in that doorway to break it down? Actually I can make myself bigger and then break it down too."
Finneas sheathes his greatsword and then carefully removes a crowbar from the side of his pack. Waving the crowbar around with little care for the heads and beams around him, Finneas begins to chant a few Kordian spells.
Casting Enlarge Person and Resist Energy (Cold) on myself, should give me a +7 with the crowbar to break down the door.
"If anybody else has some strength spells now's the time."
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 211d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 141d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 211d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 261d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 231d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 231d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 251d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Well if the 26 doesn't get me through (eventually) not sure what will. Resist Energy will knock off 10 points of damage at this level, hopefully enough for me to get to the 26. I will make room for one other to assist and I have one more casting of Resist Energy for that person.
Atol Lem |
"cccc-cold!"
Atol backs away from the door quickly and uncomfortably. This kind of cold is unheard of in the jungle and Atol has no resistance to it.
He sulks for a few minutes until he warms up again though the pain remains.
"Glimmil, are you still injured? Come closer. Dr. Toffit, you too."
Channel energy for 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 worth of healing.
"That'll take the edge off a little at least. If only two can go, I suggest Finneas and Dr. Toffit. The rest of us will stand guard here."
Atol backs away from the door a little as he absent-mindedly puts on the headband.
Wow. St. Cuthbert be praised! This will take some getting used to!
Atol Lem |
Atol stops a moment and notices Finneas bashing the door.
"Finneas, come here a moment."
Atol casts Bull's Strength on Finneas if he approaches.
