Shackled City (Pathfinder) - GM_Chris

Game Master Chris Shannon 719

This will be the Shackled City adventure path using the Pathfinder rule set. However, the existing deities (i.e. St. Cuthbert, Pelor, Wee Jas) will not be converted to similar Golarion gods.

Round 3, init 4, location M19 going to M18

Hearing the movements of combatants moving back and forth, Silfr will try and locate where they went.

Perception +4 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Failing that he will move into the tunnel in hopes of finding them, likely by being attacked.

Hoping I am following the movements correctly...plan is to provoke an opportunity attacak then strike back.

Move from M19 to M18, now empty. Try to move to L18, bumping into Finneas and provoking from S2 in 17L. If there is no attack he will try and move to L17 and should find it occupied by an opponent.

Charging around wildly in the dark with a greatsword, feeling for enemies...

Assuming he is attacked and can counter with his standard.. he'd still miss:

*Edit* "Dyrant, there are more defensible positions nearby. In our current position, we are as like to strike each other. The balconies!

Under other circumstances, debating retreat would make sense, but Dr. Toffitt doesn't feel there's a lot of time for debate. No worries, though: he may not be squawking very long if he's killed.

Dr. Toffitt listens to perceive where his silent foe is at.

Perception + 7
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

If he senses his foe is still in 17-L:

"Drat. My way appears to be blocked."

Dr. Toffitt lashes out with his rapier.

Rapier + 7
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
1d100 ⇒ 50

If he cannot sense his foe in 17-L:

Dr. Toffitt attempts to move through to 13-M, muttering aloud as he goes so as to identify himself to allies. If he runs into a foe or takes an attack of opportunity, he stops and lashes out (see above attack stats). Which would be a miss, confirming his feeling that the group's current position is futile. He finishes facing the melee.

If you'll allow, Chris, since we're in a tight spot...

Dr. Toffitt makes a tactical readjustment in his head.

In Draconic, and then Elvish, time permitting:

"Dyrant, allow some of us to fall back to one end of the hall, and the others to the other end. We'll draw them to one end and catch them in between."

Chris, if you think this tactical discussion should take an action, Dr. Toffitt will switch his action to (a) total defense and (b) talking as move action, going to the same spot (13-M)...? Or (c) full round of strategic discussion. Whichever you feel is fair.

I don't mind all the strategic discussion due to the other limitations of PbP. Recap to follow.

Round 3 recap
Toffitt 17-K - Missed
Finneas 18-L - missed
Glimmil 17-P - moved north 15' to 17-P
Cog - 17-N - nothing within 5'; he stays
Atol 18-N - sunrise and miss
Silfir 18-M - moved and missed
Dyrant 18-O - changed ward to Finneas. Not sure if you need to be able to see, but you do have line of effect.

Round 4
1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 2 = 24 at Finneas
1d3 ⇒ 3 dagger
1d6 ⇒ 2 sneak
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 at Finneas -should hit with ward gone.
1d3 ⇒ 1 dagger
1d6 ⇒ 5 sneak

The light returns to Dyrant's square.

For simplicity again, both S1 and S2 possess an object with deeper darkness. S1 will 5' to 17-J and S2 will 5' to 18-L.

Almost forgot Finneas's Fort save.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 - shrugs the rest of the poison off

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 - Fort save

I believe this puts Finneas at -10. At least you have a 12 Con.

The party hears the familiar slash of dagger on skin. The pitter patter of dark creeper feet moving away to the south. Then there is a rush of air, a loud thump, and a sickening sucking slushing sound. There is a moment of silence and then the thud of Finneas's body hitting the ground.

Gnomish:
"Yes. I will accept your surrender."

The room and columns 17 & 18 are still dark, but you no longer know where anyone is.

"Finneas, do me the favor of not getting hit...the Blessing of St. Cuthb-" Dyrant cuts off his oration in mid-sentence, "...Finneas? FINN?"

No one can see Dyrant's eye rolls in the darkness.

Round 6, Init 17

Hearing Finneas gurgle, Glimmil repeats again for the benefit of the party's decision makers.

"Guys, the tall one says he surrenders!"

Gnomish: "Can you bring back the light?"

Glimmil readies an action to move to and lay hands on Finneas, hoping that the light is restored for him to find the half-orc.

Is his accent that bad? You can delay, but not ready a move & standard. I'll take it as that.

Is it player vs. player if no one sees the attack on Glimmil?

Silfr will try and detect the new locations of the skulkers.

Silfr will strike again at the same skulk, hoping for an explosion of light.

Do I get +4 vs a prone opponent? :) If so 18 to hit

Hearing Finneas drop, Dr. Toffitt says, "If he wishes to cease hostilities, let us as well. Curse me for letting your foolhardiness infect me."

He lets fall his rapier and fumbles in the darkness to stabilize his comrade.

Heal + 6
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 possibly +2: I have a healing kit, but not clear if he'd need to spend a full round retrieving it from his pack.

Dyrant will give the Blessing of St. Cuthbert to Atol.

"Feel the protection of St. Cuthbert, Atol, and with it that we might fight back the darkness and bring safety to those who were lost. Take heart, Atol, we are not alone down here."

"It's... err, probably the smaller one?"

He said he accepted. Why am I so trusting of someone who speaks Gnomish?

Gnomish: "Okay, they accept!"

Sensing that the doctor is tending to Finneas, Glimmil instead searches the darkness for something evil.

Yeah, delayed action until the magical deeper darkness ended. Detect evil to find the small one.

"Glimmil, ordinarily I appreciate your rather optimistic economy of words. But this is no case for squandering information. Our comrade lies here dying. You say the dark one surrenders, but the darkness is still there. Please elaborate."

Glimmil would not last long as a UN translator...
