This will be the Shackled City adventure path using the Pathfinder rule set. However, the existing deities (i.e. St. Cuthbert, Pelor, Wee Jas) will not be converted to similar Golarion gods.

Atol joins Dyrant (and the others?) back to the Dragon's lair. A little outside, he casts Protection from Evil (duration 7 minutes) on Finneas to aid him in battle.

He prepares himself for battle, thinking about what spells to cast and when. "I have more Blessings of Fervor, so stay close for a few moments the first time we see the dragon."

Doctor Toffitt - do we still have the resist fire going or is that long gone?

Sorry, missed Atol's post earlier. Toffitt was rolling his eyes at his other skeptics.

As the party approaches the dragon's lair, Toffitt stops for a minute to jigger with his alchemical supplies. Turning to Finneas, he offers a couple of bottles. "This one will let you fly. This one will keep your movements free."

He then shares several potions with his friends. "Invisibility. It'll help you get close to the dragon for your first strike. Wait until after Atol shares Cuthbert's blessings, of course." He has seven potions in his bag.

Prior to staging the assault, Toffitt renews and consumes his extract of barkskin, an extract of shield, and another extract of heroism. He then swallows his freshly brewed extract of communal resist fire, and sprays it on his friends.

Once Atol casts his blessing, he uses his wand of invisibility on himself.

Finneas while wait for the Blessing of Atol, then grimace and drink the potions of fly and moving, then enlarging and holding the potion of invisibility for the charge.

Glimmil graciously accepts everything but hesitates briefly at the potion of invisibility.

"Wait, wouldn't a brave hero charge straight at the dragon, shouting something clever, like, ummm..."

Glimmil glances at Cog.

"....chaaaarge?"

Glimmil swishes around the contents of the bottle and then suddenly snaps his fingers, which doesn't quite have the same effect in mailed gauntlets.

"Wait! It's like a trick! The kind Garl loves! I got it!"

Glimmil hastily downs the contents of the bottle and continues to prattle on.

"An invisible charge!"

Down to the last use of winged boots, so will wait to ensure the dragon is within before activating those.


My map is acting up, but we can start without it.

The party rushes back to the lava lake room and pauses outside to prepare. Once they are ready they cautiously enter the room. The dragon emerges casually this time from the molten lava. Without the splashes this time, it's hard to tell where its golden flowing skin ends and the lake of lava begins.

The dragon speaks in a calm voice but there is an edge to it that reveals he is ready for trouble.
Also, it means he is not suppressing his frightful presence, DC 25 will for those it might affect. Shaken if you fail. If you made the save last time your immune for 24 hours.

"Back so soon? And in one piece--or at least it appears so with the invisible ones. I'm impressed. Did you kill the two-faced demon or flee from him?"

"Dumb-Dyr? Or whatever his name is, is dead. He told us that you had what we were looking for," Dyrant scorns. "We would prefer not to fight you, but if we have to, we will. What would you want to yield the object?

Dyrant doesn't expect this to work, but it might be quicker.

"You wish an object of immense worth. It would only be fair to compensate me for it."

The dragon leers first at Glimmil with his shiny armor and weapons, but then moves on to the rest of the party.

"Your most valuable possession. From each of you. Six great items for the one wondrous item I have."

"And by valuable, I mean worth a lot of gold. I have no desire for the wood engraving of your long dead mother who was probably eaten by a dragon."

Atol clutches his cudgel, made by his own hands, and wonders if it's the most expensive item he owns. He suspects it is and makes a decision quickly (in his own way) weighing the lives that might be saved against the truthfulness of a dragon.

"You shall not have it! We'll best you in combat you brute!" he shouts as he activates it casting Prayer.

I'm assuming we're on round 2, last round being the round I cast Blessings of Fervor. I also assume the dragon is out of reach of the prayer spell so it only affects the party.

Remember, anyone who had breakfast with Atol has 8 temporary hit points (likely spent already), +1 (morale) attack rolls/Will saves, and +4 (morale) on poison/fear saves from the heroes' feast for 12 hours.

Not my spoons! Nana's spoon is a priceless family heirloom and...

He swallows a bit and then basks in relief as the dragon clarifies market value versus actual value.

"Well, that's probably not my spoons, although there are some super shiny ones..."

Glimmil, ever willing to trade material possessions for the lives of others, momentarily forgets the dragon is a big evil do-badder and does a personal audit.

It would be my armor... my boots... or...

Glimmil sucks in a bit of wind as he realizes he holds a valuable item unseen by the dragon.

...Claw-Whomper.

Glimmil glances toward the others, wondering where Toffitt obtained a magma dragon's living heart.

...Probably for one of his potions...

Glimmil then shakes his head, wondering if this dragon is as tricky as a Glittergold Dragon.

"Hey.. how do we know this isn't some trick? Like you take our most powerful magic relics, and then try to kill us now that we don't have them?"


Looks like combat. I'll try to start it in the morning.


With Atol's words of defiance the course of the encounter is set. Still grasping his angel relic, Dyrant is the first to act. The rush of adrenaline knocks loose every bit of knowledge he has ever read about the legendary Moltenwing that has plagued the Cauldron area on and off again for almost a millennium.

Dyrant gets out of the way while granting blessings to Toffitt and Glim.

Finneas takes the direct approach and charges the ancient dragon. He gets the jump on the dragon and avoids any AoO's, but discovers the dragon's scales have grown so tough that he doesn't depend on moving at all. Finneas' mighty blow bounces off. The heat from the dragon is incredible and would instantly kill a commoner, but Toffitt's protection keeps Finneas safe.

Be sure to include all those buffs and I'll be sure to include any detriments to the dragon. It's a tough one.

"HA! HA! HA! It has been centuries since someone has tried that. Don't worry. I'll be with you in a few seconds."

Moltenwing roars and breathes superheated cone of ash onto Toffitt, Glimmil, Cog, and Atol. The ash rides on the wave of sound, crashing against them like an eruption from a volcano.

Toffitt's illusions of any advantage gained from invisibility are quickly dispelled as Moltenwing obviously watches Toffitt fire the arrows. They arrows do make very spectacular bursts of flame as they impact upon the dragon's scales, but none of them seem to cause any damage.

"That's not very new, Doctor. People always think it's safe to attack from a distance. They tend to be the tastier ones with some good fat. Unfortunately, I don't think you will fall in that category."

Glimmil grimaces as the dragon turns to him and rends through his armor. His frown turns upside down when he realizes he successfully attracted the creature's ire from Finneas.

With a flourish unappreciated by anyone since he's invisible, Toffitt slices away at the dragon.

Atol brings forth some assistance with the healing and also providing a flank for the rest of the party.

Without the comfort of being invisible, Glimmil attacks defensively and fails to wound the dragon a single time.

Dyrant continues to cheat and win the battle of wills against the dragon who has yet to fail a save. He has no trouble hitting the dragon with his arcane blast.

Finneas tries to take advantage of the flank and the inspiration, but also fails to injure the dragon.

Moltenwing provokes from Finneas, Glimmil, Toffitt, and the Azata as it flies to the edge of the cave. He then breathes a line of death and disintegration on Finneas, Glimmil, and Toffitt. DC 28 FORT save or be disintegrated.
