Fort vs Stun: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18

Glimmil smiles happily, feeling secure in his ever-so-shiny armor and well protected against an unarmed ferry-frog...

Punching! Against all this armor! Like he'd ever land a...

"Gurghlll..."

How in Garl's glittering greatness did he manage that?!

Biting his lower lip, Glimmil shines with holy radiance as he hammers away at the ferry-frog.

Glimmil attack (+1 hammer, power, bless, smite): 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 10 + 1 + 3 = 26 for 1d6 + 7 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 5 = 16

Glimmil attack #2 (+1 hammer, NO power, bless, smite): 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 1 + 3 = 11 for 1d6 + 3 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 5 = 10

I thought I remembered errata somewhere that just the first swing gets the smite, but I didn't see anything indicating that on the SRD

Cog attack (bite, NOT power): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 for 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Cog trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Glimmil Reflex vs DC16 if it's a hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

I checked monk but not errata/FAQ and it didn't have a limitation. In any case he wasted 3 against the double digit FORT save person.

The monk drops his guard a bit while Glimmil calls on Garl's luck. In the end Glimmil finally lands a second blow.

Divine Grace is OP.

I'm trying to add up Glimmil's Fort save again just to make sure it's right. I'm only coming up with +12 this time through (which still makes the save). Maybe bad math came up with +13 or there's something I'm overlooking (like a cloak of resistance or traits, although I checked both already).

I'll finally get Glimmil into HeroLab (finally bought it!) and see what it comes up with.

Edited for K8 being down. Will post on morn when more awake.

Dyrant sighs as he sees Atols inert (well, more inert than usual) body under Cog's doghood.

M Steinneblin (Rock Gnome) Paladin 11/Cavalier 1

Glimmil watches as the ferry-frog paddles away and glances up the stairs to notice the kuo-toans departing through the north door.

"That's right!" he shouts after them, knowing their fear of the righteous might of the Cauldron Five is well-founded.

Wait...

"Umm, do you think they all know we're here now and are preparing? Maybe we should do what we're going to do real fast. Find some dwarf right?"

I wonder if the dwarf is brusque? Nah, that's a stereotype. That'd be like saying all gnomes are cheerful... and brother Glimzig's not cheerful. He takes his cobbling work very seriously.

Glimmil straps his hammer to his belt, grabs his lance, and checks on Atol again.

HP: 57/62 .. I suppose a single 1d8+1 wand charge would be "extra safe" to use.

Looks like maybe just the 1 wand charge for Glimmil to hit max HP. Thanks!

Glimmil grips his lance and rides upon Cog to the top of the stairs, such that he may protect the likes of Dyrant and Atol from an army of faerie-frogs.

I wonder if they speak Sylvan if they are faerie-frogs?

I can almost make out what Toffitt, Dyrant and Finneas are saying when they are talking to each other so the monsters and stuff can't understand them. I bet Atol can understand them. That must be required for the big-folk in Cauldron to learn in their schools...

Glimmil's thoughts continue on for some time as he stands in front of the gate holding his lance, before realizing he can try opening it himself.

M Human Cuthbertist 12 - Cudgeler of the North Winds

Dyrant watches Glim try the gate, ready to ask Finn or Doctor Toffitt to scramble up a wall to find a release or keys on the other side.

Yay for spider climbing. This is the spiderclimbingest group I've ever seen.

* * *

Once the gates are open...

"Now, which way should we go? Where did that one go off to?"

Glimmil opens the unlocked doors which leads to a 25' cooridor ending in a set of double doors. Unfortunately, opening the doors results in a screeching noise that catches Glimmil and Cog.

Cog lets out a yelp, likely unheard during the sonic assault before collapsing.

Glimmil just allows himself to fall over with his mount before grasping about for reality.

Eventually, and slower than anyone has ever seen the usual hyperactive gnome move, he reaches up to stop the helm from wobbling and pulls it off his head.

Glimmil turns to look to the others, speaking very, very loudly.

"GATES OPEN. CAN I GET SOME HELP?"

Cog -2/42HP
Glimmil 18/62HP

The party looks around a bit again. To the west are the now empty barracks. To the east is an iron portucllis (still down) with cells beyond. Two of them are occupied and shout out at the party. One is a halfling male and the other is a human male. They both look thin, but not skin and bones yet. They've obviously been in the cells for several weeks.

The double doors at VW-39/40 are now open. There are another set at VW-34/45. Dyrant detects no magic left on the first set of double doors. A take 20 reveals no traps or secret doors nearby. There is a lever to open the portcullis within reach of mage hand, a 10' pole, etc.

"WOW. WHAT WAS THAT?" Glimmil wonders aloud, loudly, as he twists a finger around in his ears an ruffles Cog's ears as well.

**

As they continue through the empty barracks and Glimmil spots the prisoners, he beams with excitement as he guides Cog in their direction.

"HELLO!" he yells, clearing his throat and attempting a lower volume, "... er, hello! Do not worry friends, we will save you...?"

Glimmil gives the others a glance seeking approval as he pulls the shiniest of spoons from a pocket and holds it aloft for the halfling and man to behold in it's brilliance.

After someone nods, Glimmil will work the locks on the cells, because hey - paladins pick locks, right?

Halfling cell (attempt #1): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Human cell (attempt #1): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25

By whichever method the portcullis is opened, it creaks and shrieks almost as loudly as the other doors, but no one is injured by it.

The halfling and human urge the party to hurry. As Glimmil sets to work on the halfling's cell the human shouts out, "Don't free him! He's working with them. Free me!"

The halfling replies, "Liar! You're working with them. Hurry gone and free me before more of them come. He's probably tripped some secret lever to let them know you're here."

The human cries put, "You're the frog lover! I was just here for some looting. You were already here when I got here."

The halfling indignantly answers, "I'm from Cauldron. The only good frog is a dead one."

M Steinneblin (Rock Gnome) Paladin 11/Cavalier 1

As the halfling and human shout at each other, Glimmil pauses in working the locks and hesitates, looking to wise Atol, clever Dyrant and the cunning doctor.

He checks to make sure Finneas looks healthy, too.

Glimmil slinks towards the halfling cell, his personal decision to free littlefolk unconsciously driving him forward.

"Glimmil, we probably have other problems. That frog on the ferry could come back at any minute and there's at least one of them in the barracks, he's probably run to get reinforcements. We need to storm the barracks and prepare for attack."

Finneas puts actions to words and runs back up to the balcony to take the door he saw the kou-toan flee through.

"I agree with Finneas. They are safe where they are and they will not be safe with us. We can free them on the way out at least."

Atol turns to the prisoners, "I am sorry, but we are going deeper. You must wait here until we return to free you. It is not safe where we are going and we cannot protect you properly - we cannot even protect each other!"

As he finishes he rubs the still sore spot where the boatman beat him. A look of concern crosses his face.

"I am sorry, but you are safe there. We will be back soon."

He turns and rejoins the group.

M Steinneblin (Rock Gnome) Paladin 11/Cavalier 1

Finneas is ready for battle! How far we have come from the day he guarded against the evil clock-monster!

Given a few seconds of time in this room, Glimmil pauses and trusts Garl to show him which prisoner is trustworthy, and which is not.

Detect Evil, on the halfling first, then on the human.

They both detect faintly as evil.

"Don't leave me! I can help!" The halfling shouts. "Why are you here? What happens if you get captured too?"

The human wails. "I don't want to die here. I was only trying to feed my family. My boys might never see me again."

Dyrant turns and leaves as well, happy to help storm the barracks.

"Finn, I do hope storming the barracks includes a part of our party approaching from the balcony."

"Uh...of course it does Dyrant, that's why I'm up here. Right? We should go on two right? Or should we go on whatever comes after two?"

Finneas kicks down the door on one, having said two too many times to remember to count.

Check if open, kick if not. STR: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

M Steinneblin (Rock Gnome) Paladin 11/Cavalier 1

Glimmil retracts his charitable lock picking efforts, adding "Sit tight! You'll be safest in here!" as he tucks away a spoon, grabs his lance again and hops onto Cog and prepares for frog-men again.

Finneas kicks open the door to an enormous chamber 70' high. The party finds itself on the middle level and stares across the open air from the balcony at a seventy-foot high obsidian statue of a lobster-headed and lobster-clawed woman that dominates the chamber. Its eyes glow with a bright crimson that illuminates the room. An iron-railed balcony rings the room at a height of 30' above a pool of water. A stairway leads up to a platform directly across the chamber that encircles the midsection of the statue, a few feet below its massive crustacean claws. The balcony follows the walls three-quarters of the way around the chamber. To the east and west are stairs leading both up and down. About thirty feet above this balcony is another balcony, which extends only halfway along the left and right walls. Frescos of bloody sacrifices--mostly stylized kuo-toas carrying dismembered body parts--cover the walls. Every single kuo-toa depicted is facing the lobster statue.

Four kuo-toas wearing banded mail can be seen in the water below as they look up at Finneas. Other kuo-toas similar to those out front are on the balcony above. While obviously expecting you, they possibly grew bored and are a step behind the entire party who acts first.

New Map

There are double doors on the south wall of each level. There are doors at the back of the platform on the middle level.

The party only has access to the one entrance at this point. The fish-eye balcony area does not connect with this.

I'm assuming the party leaves the portcullis to the cells up.

Nice map! BTW, everyone remember they still have Bless. It lasts 6 minutes, and I don't think we talked to the prisoners that long... GM_Chris can say otherwise naturally.

Round 1, Init 23

Dyrant, sensing the enormity of the room, begs Angel again for his wings.

Dyrant will float up to W35 (above Cog/Glim) and addresses the room, using his sermon voice.

"We seek only the dwarf. Bring him to us and we leave. We seek no conflict and we will respond to violence in kind."

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10 Oratory to make himself heard

To Z,33

Glimmil trots out atop Cog to the edge of the balcony and observes as Mister Maynor "sermonizes" the frog-folk, then rests his hands on his hips and nods assertively.

My presence will surely lend weight to Dyrant's words!

Ready a standard action if the frog-men attack to move to AC,28 and head off the upstairs frog-men on the right side.

"Dyrant I'm covered in frog legs. I mean, lots of them. I killed a lot of frogs."

Having dispensed his words of wisdom Finneas quaffs the Shield potion Toffitt gave him and moves into the room.

Drink potion of Shield and move to Q34.

Toffitt enters the room and repeats what Dyrant said, more or less.

One of the kuo-toa on the floor responds,

Undercommon:
"Why should we bring you the dwarf? You have come to our home and murdered our people."

And Toffitt will translate for the party.

Atol still to go aside from reminding everyone about the bless.

Assuming Atol does nothing violent.

The kuo-toa in the water holds up his webbed hand. Each of the kuo-toa in the water casts a spell and a magical field appears around each individual, glowing with a chaotic blast of multicolored hues.

The kuo-toa on the upper balconies continue to aim their hand crossbows at the party, but hold their fire.

Undercommon:
"Tell us more of your reasons for being here."

Party up for Round 2.

Dyrant probably had trouble speaking since he's behind a door. Or maybe he's peeking his head around it.
