I dunno . . . I understand how frustrating waiting around is (I'm in another PBP where a single combat took like 6+ weeks), so I do understand where you're coming from. But Rich is, IMHO, reasonably consistent. And as he said last week, weekends are pretty dang busy for a home owner.

I tend to err toward "cut folks who are a little late some slack."

I'm not singling Rich out - Just making a suggestion. We all have supercomputer cell phones I think. Even Phil. We shoud be able to tap out "I attack with my X" in 30 seconds and let someone else handle the dice in an absolute emergency. If you have 5 minutes you can do a reasonable post and do your own dice.

We are all busy - I know at least 4 of us own homes, 4 are married, all have jobs, one has two that I know of - But we all can find some time to keep things moving.

Besides, Autopilot isn't the end of the world, each character has a default setting for just this reason.

Personally I have a very tough time taking a few minutes at work to post. The weekend is waaaay easier for me. If I get autopiloted during the week, that is totally fine.

If combat lasted 6+ weeks due to redonkulous delays I would go insane. Please let's not do that.

House rule suggestion:

Auto-pilot invoked after 24 hours from YOUR last post in initiative.

This would mean that at a minimum, each day would include 1 round of combat.

Anyone second this motion? Can I get a "Hell Yeah!" ???

I can see your point, and agree with wanting 1 round a day, but sometimes the numbers might not line up to a set in stone 24 hr post cycle.

Example:

Player A posts at 0600 when they wake up
Player B posts at 1400 during a break from class
Player C posts at 2200 when they get off work from their 2nd job
Player D posts at 0700 when they wake up
GM resolves at 1200 when he is on lunch break....

There are more variables involved than just when you last posted. Again I agree that we should aim to get at least 1 rd of combat in a day, but as for Auto-pilot I think the "arbitrary" system that Chris is using taking into account more factors than just a 24hr cycle is fine so far. But yes PbP can get nerve wrackingly slow when you have a plan and want to see what ripples in the universe your heroic actions have caused.

Adam and I text each quite a bit when its each others turn. It works fairly well. Perhaps we could collectively do it as a group.

Dude, don't you get the email update thingy?

....There is another Skywalker.... I mean solution. I'm loathe to do it, but I have a *little* more time than I previously had.

IF 4-6 of the most frequent posters (or someone else we know who isn't in but would be) want, we can start doing Pathfinder Society PbP. It's a very different way to play, but a lot of fun. The rules are MUCH stricter with gear and there is no role-playing outside "the mission." But since I'm not running PFS at the table right now, I'd be willing to make a go of a scenario. I'd run "In Service to Lore" which is an introductory adventure. It's designed to introduce gamers to Society style play. If you're looking to relieve any gamer "blue balls" it should be people willing to post A LOT.

This would be in addition to Curse of the Crimson Throne.

Im not sure I could commit to that. Sometimes I have lots of little moments of free time. Sometimes I dont.

Phil, it's still PbP. If your pace doesn't annoy S, then I think you can be in. Legally we need one more.

Both of you guys should download the rule book for society play. it's on the Paizo sire here.

Male Dwarf Fighter 5 Urban Ranger 2 AC=28; DR 3/- T=16; FF=23; HP 86/88; Init+2; Per +6; +13F+8R+4W

I don't think I would be willing to do so, but my roomate Cally who is much more experienced in PbP than I am wouldn't mind trying, but he can't commit to anything more than one post a day.

Hmmmm I think the point behind having a second one going is that it sees faster action than 1 per day. It's just a thought.

The other difference is that these are singular missions, we can play them - finish them, then start a new one when there's time.

OK, I must preach about my favorite kids' show: Adventure Time. It's a super-weird cartoon, set in the fantastical land of Ooo. The main characters are Finn the human boy (the only human in Ooo) and his friend Jake, the magical dog (he's got shapeshfiting/size changing/streatching abilities). Finn and Jake are super-good adventurers. The show has many loose references to RPGs, but today they had such deliciously hard-core D&D references that it is proof positive the show is objectively "awesome."

Finn has a sort-of girlfriend in the Fire Princess. Only problems are 1) she's a fire elemental, so he gets burned when they touch, and 2) she's evil and he's the only oen who doens't really see it. He tires to prove to Jake that she's not evil, and eventually they infiltrate the Fire Kingdom in disguse to talk to her dad, the Fire King.

Fire King: "Everyone in the Fire Kingdom is evil!!"
Finn: "What about your daughter, is she evil too?"
Fire King: "Oh yeah."
Finn: "You sure she's evil? Maybe she's like chaotic neutral!"
Fire King: "NO, she's totally evil."
Finn: "Well, do you think she could change? I mean if two good heroes tried to reform her, you think she could be good??"
FIre king: "HMmmmmm, well she'd take an experience penalty for acting out of alignment . . ."

Mike shouldn't you be playing DIII?

Though that is pretty awesome.

Male Human Wizard (Enchanter: Controller) 7 Init +5; AC=11; T=11; FF=10; HP 46/46

i'm going to bed right now, bro.

So, we need a 4th. I'm not looking to go crazy with this game either. If you can post a few times a day that should be plenty. We still have Crimson Throne too. If you guys play your first mission and decide that PFS style play isn't for you, no biggie.

Sweet! Looks like I'm going to earn my second star for DMing next weekend. Third star is a LONG way off though...

Oh, Joe, do you perchance play Diablo III?

Male Dwarf Fighter 5 Urban Ranger 2 AC=28; DR 3/- T=16; FF=23; HP 86/88; Init+2; Per +6; +13F+8R+4W

I beta tested DIII, have soooooo fallen out of love with the Diablo Click to move stuff. I didn't like the beta so I dropped it. I am playing Star Wars the Old Republic MMO though.

ya know as far as character avatar, I like the one you have. Remember the old D&D cartoon? The Dungeon Master character from that would be a cool avatar.

That was EXACTLY why I was asking for custom Avatars. It's what I really wanted. I've got the entire series on DVD. It holds up better than all my other favorites.

For the record:

Transformers and G.I. Joe = still awesome.
M.A.S.K.: Old TMNT = Okay
Old He-Man and Danger Mouse = horse crap.

Round the Third

Since Ferox seems to be occupied solely in the European Theater, and Odric is in the Pacific, and I'm super unhappy with the delay, here goes nothing.

Odric winds up with The Eagle and attacks the floating death's head before him. He puts enough power into the attack to cleave through the first and strike the one behind. Odric's hatred for the Undead prompt him to dispense with finesse and instead focus on raw power. His muscles ripple as he swings the mighty pick.

Power attack with heavy pick 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 1 = 22 for 1d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9 damage

Confirm crit: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 <-bah!

The pick smashes through the first death's head and careens into the second. 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 - 1 = 7 for 1d6 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10 damage.

The impact with the first was a bit too much for Odric to maintain his control over the weapon. The pick flies harmlessly by the adjacent apparition. Odric stands ready to defend against any counterattack the creatures might make.

"Focusing Fire" isn't the right call here. It almost always is, but this is the exception that proves the rule.

If it's a golem, it's probably AT LEAST resistant to magic and has DR. Which means Morkeleb and Gaius are going to be nearly useless. If there's a spell caster in this room with a golem, Gaius and Morkeleb should attack the spellcaster and let the Warriors tank and damage the Golem. Ferox should attack either target at his discretion.

That being said, any real talk about what to do is useless until we see what's in there and where it's located.
