Gimble, The Storyteller |
Mik, with vision restored, will finish casting Spiked Pit just in front of the barricaded door, hopefully taking all the debris down with it. Mik will then fly above the pit, looking to see if door is locked, barred or otherwise held shut.
The debris falls into the pit., There is no visible lock on the door. Yes the hallway is 10' up.
Griff has a move action left.
"They're down the hall all right, and there's a spell caster."

From around the corner comes another spell caster. She looks right at the two of you, smiles, and casts a familiar spell. And in an instant the area around the two of you is covered in gold colored dust.
Glitterdust: Mik and Griff need to make a Will Save DC 16 or become blinded.
With the two of you becoming visible a barage of arrows and crossbow bolts come screaming toward Mik.

Gimble, The Storyteller |
A quick summary: After Dimension stepping back, Mik removed the debris in front of the door via Spiked Pit, and checked to see if it was barred or locked. Doesn't appear to be either. The Red Mantis in the area raised their weapons as the sorceress looked right at Griff and Mik, and cast Glitterdust revealing them. The readied actions of the Red Mantis sent a barrage of bolts and arrows at Mik, some of which hit. 29 points of damage. More if he fails his Will Save. In response, Griff had already drawn the darkwood staff, from which he cast Circle of Death, instantly slaying 5 of the Red Mantis.
Why would it take 2 move actions to put the staff away?

Not being able to see, Mik gropes for the door to the undead and casts Open/Close and then drops down 15' at quarter movement into the Spiked Pit, trying not to put out his eye or other body part on the spikes.
Reflex: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 if necessary.

I'll just throw a few of these out here to relieve our DM of the burden.
Sidenote: Even though it looks like you already figured it out, general consensus on spiked pit, black tentacles, and the like is, if you cast it on somebody it's an attack and you lose invisibility, but if you cast it near somebody and they move into it later it's not and invisibility remains intact.
tentacles: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
tentacles: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
tentacles: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14

GO TEAM GO!
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Mik is blinded by the Glitterdust (You recognize the spell, you've seen it several times before plus I believe you even have it prepared) Due to being blinded Mik's AC lowers to 19 I believe -2 plus No DEX bonus also leaving him flat-footed since his Archetype replaces Uncanny Dodge. Meaning the already rolled damage is confirmed, plus 2 crossbow bolts (with sneak attack) and another arrow.
2 Crossbow Bolts: 2d8 + 1 + 3d6 ⇒ (2, 8) + 1 + (1, 6, 1) = 19 (+1 is for 1 Point Blank. Only 1 sneak attack as only 1 is within 30' of Mik.
Arrow: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The total damage = 19 + 29 + 3 = 51
I'd like Mik to make a perception check as he starts to grope for the door.
Thanks ZAO for making the Black Tentacles rolls.
Mik PZ |
I did not add anything for the active spire. I guess that would change things so we should verify if we still have +2 for Will saves. If so, I believe Mik makes the save and takes a reduced amount of damage (29-15=14) and can still see and all sorts of game changes. Making the Will save and not being blinded would also change his actions.
As for getting us killed, Mik does walk that fine line. Surprised Griff would ask such an obvious question.
Mik PZ |
Turning towards Griff, Mik says in Sylvan, "Gonna lure some to the right" Mik will take his first move action to fly down the corridor, taking a right, then left. Depending on what unfolds in front of him. Hopefully he can go down a ways for his second move action.
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Gimble, would it be possible to dimension door to my companions? The reading of the spell seems somewhat ambiguous.
You would have to know exactly where they are. You don't know how deep the stairs go or which direction the downstairs hallways go. For all you know, the stairs could go down 50' and lead to a 100' hallway before opening up into a single room.
You could dimension door to the far end of the 1st floor chamber to where stairs are, and work your way down from there.
Gimble, The Storyteller |
As Mik turns the first corner and start to make his way around the second corner, he sees a hallway that extends 25' before going back to the left. The Red Mantis with the two-handed sword takes a swing (AoO) at Mik.
Elven Curved Blade: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Damage: 2d10 + 10 ⇒ (2, 1) + 10 = 13
Seeing nothing in front him, Mik continues to move further down the hall (20' so far). As he peeks around the corner, half way down on the right is a set of wooden double doors (closed), and an opening to the left directly across from the doors.
Mik can finish his move, ZAO still has his action if he wants to take it.
Mik PZ |
I believe we started at the ground floor of the spire and Mik and Griff went down. You could say that you are going down an approximate distance that you think we went down with Dimension Door. If you try to go to an occupied square, it will take you to a random square within 100' of where you wanted to go and leave behind some of your life force (1d6 damage). You might reappear back on top with no net gain. If it is your only Dimension Door, you would have lost your escape route as well. Sorry we are taking so long and leaving you out of the excitement.
ZAO Zenkrikk Azler Oz |
No worries Mik. I knew I was taking a chance with the black tentacles move and that it might not pan out. Was hoping to at least draw some of the off you guys. Might try the dimension door anyway. I'd still have one more use of it as an escape.

Gimble, The Storyteller |
Griff "steps" upstairs. ZAO sees a glitter-Griff a few feet from him, Griff sees an invisible ZAO and Eido flying around the area. ZAO is a move action away from Glitter-Griff. If you want me to roll an exact number, I will, but I figure it probably doesn't matter.
Mik PZ |
Having seen what he wanted to see and seeing the gleam in the eyes of the flanking assassins, Mik will retrace his steps. The thicker Red lines are Acrobatic where Mik will move at half speed to avoid any AoO's. Not certain if Mik needs to do an Acrobatics for the second section and if they have ranged weapons, would not waste the movement. His end goal is to end up over the pit before utilizing a Shift action to go into the room where Griff is located. Ideally, Mik wants to be in the corner with the X.
If Mik notices the spell caster on the stairs, he will wave Good-Bye before shifting if allowed as a free action.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (10) + 18 = 28 1st section. I think this is against CMD +2 since 2 foes.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26 2nd section, if necessary. I think this is against CMD +4 as they would count as my 3rd foe in this round.
Gimble, The Storyteller |
Mik deftly dodges around the enemies, back toward the room with the debris piled high. He shifts into the room ending his turn in a square with the precariously piled debris (yes, I know your 5' up which is why you won't have to roll a reflex save to keep it from falling on you). Mik's foot catches the pile, and the debris falls, covering the rest of the floor, and slamming the door shut. There is debris covering the floor, and blocking the door shut.
It'll take 2 rounds to remove enough debris to open the door. You can always use a strength check to pull on the door, or break through the door, or attack the door with a weapon to break it.
Mik PZ |
With the spiked pit active, would there still be a sloped portion of the floor under the now closed door? Would some of the debris also slide into the pit? I realize that larger portions would jam up the works but not sure it that makes it easier or harder to open the door.
Gimble, The Storyteller |
We'll move ahead on the assumption that ZAO moves to Griff.
@Mik: Some of the debris slipped down the slope into the pit, but it's still jammed shut. Only 1 round to move the debris to be able to open the door.
Black Tentacles: do their damage.
Red Mantis: Mik hears some laughter coming from down the hall as the door closes on him.
They do their movements.

Griff Dimension door's back with ZAO and Eido. Immediately after teleporting back into the hallway, a bolt of fire wizzes past Griff. ZAO casts haste on himself, Eido, and Griff (unfortunately you are unable to target Mik as you don't know where he is at the moment). Eido takes a shot at the spell caster that fired at Griff and hits.
Red Mantis:
Two arrows come flying out from behind the corner of the hallway. One at Griff, one at Eido.
Longbow@Griff: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Longbow@Eido: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
Both arrows find their mark as Eido's wound is somewhat superficial, and Griff's currently small stature is just enough to avoid being struck in a major artery.
