Yeah, I was just trying to remove them without harming them. Are we at the site of a shipwreck or are we washed ashore with only a few materials here and there?
The Many-Faced GM |
The way the bodies are spread out, the fact that there are multiple life boats with gear stacked in them, and the clear tracks were someone has drug the boats farther up the beach and one additional set of tracks where it looks like one boat went back out to sea indicate you did not simply wash ashore. Someone clearly helped get you to your current predicament.
The Many-Faced GM |
"Aye, someone check on them two up there." she says, pointing to the two bodies to the north. She then runs down the beach, past the surf, getting within five feet of the nearest crab-scorpion thing, and tries to get it's attention by yelling.
Double move down the beach, should get me adjacent one of the crabs, and just free action shouting lol
The crazed, charging, half giant woman is enough to send the sea scavenger scuttling for the safety of the spray.
Nymra Jahana |
I'll do the same to the remaining crab, then start checking for pulses/breathing
Lesedi Ohia |
Lesedi moves to the aid of the unconscious, shouting and waving her hands in the air at any remaining lobster monsters. "Get out of 'ere ya bloody sea bugs!"
The Many-Faced GM |
You have effectively removed all of the scavengers. They have all fled back into the ocean. I will be deleting their icons shortly, just wanted to show their retreat. The other survivors are beginning to regain consciousness as well. As the adrenaline and excitement of the momentarily shock come to an end, everyone begins to realize just how hungover and sickened they feel. One of the recently awoken survivors immediately rolls over and begins retching.
I have moved some of your icons around on roll20 to represent some of your actions to scare off the scavengers and attend to the other survivors. Feel free to move yourselves to where ever you like on the map.
Some rolls to get you started.
Nimar |
Nimar sighs heavily and sheaths his rapier. I'm no good with helping the wounded, so I may as well start helping the survivors.
He looks about trying to gain his bearings and then begins to check the stacked gear and boats searching for fresh water and food.

Neil walks/stumbles over to Nimar to see what he's pointing at. He didn't see the ship the first time, but after having someone point it out, he finally sees the ship upon the cliff side. I guess we are. But I'd like to know what happened. I think we were drugged. But if we were, you'd figure it would be to steal the Jenivere. Not crash it into the cliff.
Or maybe we were rescued instead. Look at those tracks. Someone moved a lot of us onto the shoreline and then took one boat back out.
Do we have a head count? I see the Captain and the First Mate, as well as many of the crew, but I don't recognize if we have all the passengers.

Well, better get a head count anyways.
Neil then walks around looking for his bag. Assuming he finds it easily enough, he grabs his canteen and walks around to each person to give them some fresh water. While he's doing that, he gets a head count of how many are still alive and how many are passed.

The Many-Faced GM |
The nausea and vomiting pass after a few minutes thanks to the aid of Lesedi and Neil. The hangovers will last a few more hours unfortunately.
Nymra doesn't recall any specific information about Smuggler's Shiv, although the name itself is foreboding enough.
Performing a head count reveals 9 total survivors on the beach.
Besides the four of you, the survivors consists of
Aerys Mavaato, a female half-elf
Gelik Aberwhinge, a male gnome
Ishirou, a human male
Jask Derindi, a middle-aged human male
and Sasha Nevah, a female human
Nymra Jahana |
Jask made it did he? I'll have to keep an eye on that one... Of the company present, Jask was the one that she knew the least about, having been imprisoned in the ships brig. The only reason she even knew of him was because of a drunken stroll underdecks. After her encounter, and promptly being escorted above decks and scolded, she had inquired about the man in the brig and had found out little else but his name. Sasha, Ishirou, and Gelik she was familiar with, having spent many a night drinking and jesting with them. Aerys she wasn't familiar with at all aside from hearing about "that b!@~~y half-elf" from the crew. Her only attempt to communicate with her was met with a scoff, so she gave up and stuck with more friendly company.
She summons her sword once more, stabs it into the sand, and leans on it to help with her hindered balance.
"Everyone alright? Anyone seen the captain? Or crew? Or whoever it was saved us?"
Neil Ogea |
Thabks for your hep, miss. Neil says to Lesedi
Louder, and to Nymra. He responds, Everyone is more or less ok. A bit washed up, perhaps, but ok.
No sign of any of the other crew, and very little clues as to what happened or why we were saved. You said something about smugglers shiv? What's that, and where are we? Is this an island or mainland? Any major ports we can get to?
Nimar |
After piling up the loose articles and locating his own gear, Nimar quietly collapses into the sand, his adrenaline spent. A soft snore can be heard from the scruffy human.
Lesedi Ohia |
Lesedi walks to her bag and checks its contents to make sure everything is there, then looks out to sea. She's silent for a moment before turning to the group. "I would practice caution, were I you... Whomever saved us... would seem to be the only one not poisoned last night. A devil pulls on strings to change our course... This was no mere accident."
With that, she turns away and walks up the beach towards the jungle to look for any signs indicating a somewhat commonly used path in the area.

geography to know geography of the area and nearby landmarks, +2 if in mwangi expanse: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
The Many-Faced GM |
Nymra remembers hearing tales of Smuggler's Shiv, a notorious island north of Eleder, near Desperation Bay. It is commonly believed to be haunted by the ghosts and ghouls of the sailors who have died on the jagged rocks and reefs surrounding the island. One rumor holds that a group of shipwrecked Chelish soldiers where stranded on the island over 70 years ago and turned to cannibalism.
There are the occasional paths that lead deeper into the overgrown island, but none seemed used frequently and do not lead more than a few dozen feet.
Nymra Jahana |
Is this island part of or off the coast of the mwangi expanse? or rather would this island be on my map?
The Many-Faced GM |
Yes, this area is considered a part of the Mwangi expanse. On the roll20 map that you should see, section A. is where everyone is beached currently and section B. is where the Jenivere is wrecked.
Nymra Jahana |
Nymra loosens her grip on her blade, and it seems to shatter, the shards fading out of existence. She produces the map once more, kicks over a nearby crate, and spreads it out. She waits for those that care to gather around, then points at a spot on the map.
"This is us. I recall some sailor tales, sayin' that this place be haunted. More disturbin' is the tales of a crew shipwrecked, an' turned to cannibalism about 70 years ago give er take. If I had to venture a guess, it's likely that those tales are linked, and the ghosts of this island could be desendents of that crew. Either way, we need to stay on our guard. Closest ports are likely in the Mwangi itself."
Can I get the closest port locations with that roll as well, or should I roll seperatly? Just in case Geo: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Neil Ogea |
Sargava is not on this island. What we need is a city or village or something from which we can sail to the mainland. Do you know of any? If not, then we need to set about getting shelter and a source of food and water. This canteen isn't going to last long, and most of our food supplies went with the ship.
Speaking of the ship, any chance of savaging the wreckage?
The Many-Faced GM |
The ship wreck is hard to tell from here. It has not sunk completely below the sea line, and there is the wonder where the last life boat has wandered off to.
All of the below survivors start with an attitude of indifferent
As the other 5 survivor's gather around they start to gather some supplies and begin to speak their minds.
The female half-elf introduces herself as Aerys Mavato. She is a trim, athletic woman with short dark hair, tanned skin, and fierce blue eyes. She dresses tightly in fitted leather armor and favors dark clothing and tricorn hats. Neil would remember her encounter on board the Jenivere where she pummeled a would be suitor for a rude advancement. "Well today has not started as expected. I don't suppose anyone has a drink?"
Gelik Aberwhige introduces himself shortly there after. A male gnome with a longsword at his side, blond hair, and a neat goatee. He's dressed like a noble and appears quite clean despite the hurricane of events of the last 24 hours. He very closely resembles Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones. "Well I suppose room service will take quite a while , perhaps one of you gentlemen would be so kind as to show me a menu."
The rugged Tian man introduces himself as Ishirou. His graying hair is worn in a ponytail and his beard is rather scruffy. His clothes and armor are well kept, if of low quality. The katana strapped to his back is in very good condition and appears to be the only part of him that is. He bows when he approaches only speaking his name "Ishirou."
The middle-aged, plain-looking Garundi man sits on a piece of drift wood with his hands manacled behind his back. His clothes are ragged, his hair starting to gray, and his eyes are full of tears. He makes no move to introduce himself.
"Sasha Nevah is my name" and acts as if that explains everything. She tousles her red hair and her mischievous green eyes display an eerie calm or happiness not typically found on a stranded woman. Slender and athletic, she doesn't sit still or remain in one place for very long, which makes it easy to catch a glimpse of her Red Mantis tattoo on her back between her shoulder blades. She is also missing her pinkie finger on her left hand.
Nimar |
I guess, let Nimar sleep? The lazy bum! :P
Neil Ogea |
I did not know he was still manacled!
My name is Neil. he says to the group. Anyone have any more information about where we are and how to get back to civilization?
Neil walks over to the manacled man, I'm sorry, I didn't see those on you before. Let's get them off, shall we? As the only known survivor of the Jenivere crew, I am now in command of whatever's left. Which means as a prisoner, you're my charge. You may have stowed away on the ship, but the ship's gone. I absolve you of your crime for stowing away and declare you to be free. Upon absolving the man, Neil makes the sign of the cross with his hands. To the rest of the group, Neil says, I don't suppose any one has seen the key, have they?
As for the rest of all this stuff, claim what's yours. Whatever is left we'll assume to belong to the ship. Then we can figure out a way to stay alive long enough to get back to civilization.
Anyone know how far we are to the mainland? Would making the trip using these boats be feasible? Or should we venture across the island looking for a village and a port?
Assuming no one finds a key or has some other ability to open up the locks, Neil will begin searching for the keys or for something to break the lock and/or manacles, like a saw or something.
The Many-Faced GM |

The key is not to be found on the island.
"My name is Jask, and I am no stowaway. I appreciate your help, but if I am returned to Sargava, they will not be so forgiving."
Neil Ogea |
No way I'm searching the whole island! Lol
Not a stowaway, huh? Be that as it may, I don't want to lug a prisoner around. Now, I'll help you get these cuffs off one way or another, but it'd be appreciated if you told me why you were in the brig.
Neil has another plan: pull out his pocket multitool that has a miniature saw on it, and start sawing away at the weakest point of the manacles or the lock. Unless someone else has a better way.
Wait a minute... Neil thinks, and a small smile appears on his lips.
Hey Nymra, you got a minute? That sword trick you had, how did you do it? You have some sort of teleporter or something to materialize it (Straight out of Star Trek)? Can you get something else? Like a metal saw?

Neil runs over to wake Nimar up. Hey man. You ok? Could use your help for a sec if you're able. Got a lock we need opened. Heard you may know how.
The Many-Faced GM |
In general, light weapons are considered 2 sizes smaller than their wielders, so in this case, the manacles will be considered 2 sizes smaller than medium, or Tiny. This gives them a +2 size bonus to AC. The manacles aren't moving, so no Dex bonus.
They have no armor value themselves, so you need to hit an AC 12.
They have hardness 10 and 10 hit points.
