That is what I figured as that makes the most sense, bird coop stink. More reason for fire! Burn flying rats, burn.
Gay Master |
you ascend the stairs, and arrive at a small guard room. One of Mott's men, and one of Varning's men standing guard. they quiet down as they hear you approach, and call out. Who goes there? A little torchlight illuminates the top of the stairs, and the double doors behind the guards.
They draw their weapons quickly and shout, Intruders!

Varning's ranger slashes at Ash with his longsword.

He swings wildly though and misses.

Its just neji and ash right now. no one is surprised but some are flat footed. I threw in everyone's init so we're on the same page, in case anyone wants to jump in. I'll just be looking for Neji, Temperance and Victor for now, but if anyone else wants to do something, they hear the shout and fighting up on the landing. Keep in mind the "squares" on the map are 1 = 10 ft, so i'm shoving you guys in 2x2 in the squares. if in doubt use a corner to orient your character.
Neji Volrata Eidolon |
I cast Shocking Grasp and switch it to fire and will attempt to provide flank if I can, rage and touch. The map is coming up blank on my side, so feel free to move me where would be most appropriate to support.
Touch: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 6, 6) = 20
(if I can't directly flank, I could tumble or subtract 2 from the to-hit, whichever is more appropriate)
Neji Volrata Eidolon |
I can see the map now. Doesn't look like I can flank but I will take the guy near me with a 12 touch instead (just as you currently have us placed...it's like you knew or something).
Gay Master |
You tap his mailed boot with a burning grasp, and the fire catches on him as if he were made of straw. His burnt husk falls to the ground, sizzling.

I'll draw my morningstar since pretext is out the window.

and then back up, so we can set up for a flank when he comes after one of us.
Gay Master |
Assuming Temperance and Victor don't even realize what's going on upstairs, or can't move in to do anything. Mott's man is dead on the ground, Varning's man is bruised. Leo and Temperance were on the stairs, 15 ft behind Ash and Neji.

Misses the ranger, and ruins the flank setup that was starting to take place.
Damnit Leo, quit getting in the way.
Varning's Ranger knows he's outnumbered, grips his longsword two handed, and shouts again: Intruders in the Tower! , and swings at Leo.
Varning: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 221d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 possible critical

Disregarding the Ranger's cry for help, Excuse me boys, forgetting that I also look like one, I shift between Leo and Ash, drawing a hand along Leo's helmet, while my other draws my hammer...
You know Ash, I have never played nice,..and swing, and who are you to talk after so beautifully silencing this fool's friend down stairs

Shit, there goes sneaking.
Move up stairs trying to get line of sight on the guy and cast daze on him. Hoping he has 4 or fewer HD. Will Save 20, btw.
Stage whisper:
Hey, look at me and shush!
WhatWouldTemperanceSay |
Down the stairs:
Hey, stop screwing around and wedge the doors level 1 and level 2 shut.
If we can finish things off quickly here and head out we can probably still escape before ending up in a keep-wide battle.
I may not be on when the yelling guy drops, so when he goes down I'll shift to his form and disguise to match his armor, etc.
disguise as mook: 1d20 + 10 + 10 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 10 + 16 = 40
Then I'll head down the stairs. I suspect the alchemist and fire-barian can handle some birds.

Forsythe goes BAMF and snaps out of her walking catatonic state.

Once, our friend is silenced and looted, I begin bird murder. Are there any messages currently ready to fly or any that have come in? Perhaps a ledger?

It is indeed locked. You start trying to unlock it .
rounds to open : 1d4 ⇒ 3

You dont hear pitter patter of supporting troops. Either theyre too far for you to hear, or not coming.

Anyone doing anything for... Eight rounds? Shoving ash out if the way to bash the door down? Healing ? Buffing? Bathroom break?
Neji Volrata Eidolon |
I offer my Skeleton Key as an option and I re-join the Message pool while riding the refractory period and release of endorphins.
After a couple rounds of watching Ash and Victor discuss the theoretical aspects of locks, I stand, rage and attempt to sunder the door. Anyone concerned about noise is welcome to stop me, but you know, barbarian..sooo

WhatWouldTemperanceSay |
I'm watching the thread, but since I said "I'm going downstairs to head off any reinforcements" I don't really have much in-character interaction with this door unless someone whispers they need some arcane support.
Neji Volrata Eidolon |
baby, don't be that way. we always need your arcane supports. plus, it shouldn't take you long to get to the first floor and tell if there even is any support coming. my bet is no. so, we should see your sassy face up here to tell us how we are doing it wrong in 5, 4, 3,...
WhatWouldTemperanceSay |
Thinking about it more...While fire will probably kill lots of bird, it seems like a negative channel would be the best weapon for killing a very large number of weak creatures in a small area.
Neji Volrata Eidolon |
Thanks powderpuff, but we have to get in there first BAM, BAM, BAM
(or potentially PICK, PICK, PICK or PICK, BAM, PICK, BAM...you know depending on how the goat feels today)
Gay Master |
in four hits you do 2 damage to the door ( i double checked, its a heavy iron door. )
Ash Ketchum |
I can't work with you trying to break down the door! cut it out and stand back!
you're going to wake the whole castle! back up and quiet down!

A minute and a half later, assuming he actually gets quiet this time w/o being interrupted.
the lock pops.
::we're in. have you heard anything downstairs?::
Gay Master |
perception checks for those holding the doors on the basement and ground floors?
Neji Volrata Eidolon |
Silly Goat, the only reason I swung was because you said it was heavy wood over le hangouts. I wouldn't have swung at a metal door...that would take 4eva without skills/feats or adamantium. Please disregard my swings, I'm not that dumb...I will assist in picks then
SkelKey: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Gay Master |
yeah, i was on my phone in hangouts, while out and about in the city =) without my handy dandy reference material. loud swings ignored.
on the ground floor and first floor, you listen at the door and don't hear anything but the wind in the night.
Gay Master |
(interlude) With a start, wild haired, Martin wakes from his sleeping pallet in the corner, groggy, looking around at the ravens he tends, wondering what woke him. Intruders he hears again faintly through the thick iron doors. Scrambling quickly he rushes over to the door, his robes trailing in patches of bird shit. He checks the door three times, yes its locked, he fumbles three times with the key around his waist like a rosary. and slowly starts backing up as he hears something slip into the lock. No, they haven't, they couldn't. Fetching his trumpet, he grasps it. As the last cylinder clicks into place, he steadies himself and raises the trumpet to his lips.
The lock eventually pops open with some concentrated effort, and Ash messages ::we're in. Forsythe, front and center.::
Its the odor that hits you first. The large dark chamber is littered with bird droppings. Lookng around from the doors, you then all the hundreds of messenger ravens, a few of them hop-flying from one perch to another. They stare at you with their avian eyes, in a way that speaks to you, "you've just come into my home. and you're not prepared for the hell that's about to come".
Then the sound hits, as a disheveled man with a distinctive trumpet sounds a clarion call. A second later you can hear its echo reverberate back from the courtyard, and you're sure everyone in the keep heard that. You felt it in your bones.
As you move in to get to work quickly, Mad Martin shouts Out! Out! Stay Out! as a flock of the ravens takes flight, flying clockwise around the madman, he nearly disappears behind their black feathers, squawks, and beaks.

Roll for relevant creepiness:
CreepDiary: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Awesome, super relevant creepiness.
On Victor's initiative, rather than taking a combat action he steps back and starts digging in his pack looking for paper and a pen. He then starts scribbling madly on the paper "Scroll of Dimension Door, use only in case of emergencies" and then makes the rest of the paper look like it is a used scroll (probably some random arcane markings, maybe crumpled up a bit or even a little scorched).
And since he rolled really high on the creep-o-meter, you also can see him digging through his spellbook frantically and saying "yes, that's a really good story" then pausing looking like the idea of parting with it is just too depressing to go on, then his face hardening with determination and him tearing the pages out of it.
I assume this will take a bit, so I'll say he gets a move action each round and then spends all his standard actions engaging on this mission of his.
WhatWouldTemperanceSay |
But on my turn, when I hear the alarm sound above, I hesitate then move down the stairs, looking out any window-slits in the towers to see when/if guards are approaching. I'll whisper over message what I see. I'm still disguised like the dead guard who yelled "Intruders" so much.
