Ardanto attempts to perform several high kicks in the Delirious Tiger fighting style. (1d20+4=23, 1d20+4=9, 1d20+4=6)

Leaping high into the air Ardanto whirls his leg in a fluid motion at an invisible opponent, the blow would have landed cleanly on the chin of an attacker, with out pausing he attempts to reverse the movement to hit his invisible foe in the chest, but his momentum carries him side ways where he tumbles into a side board, disorientated by the collision he attempts to flip backwards while kicking his legs out. His shins crack loudly against the lip of the sideboard and he crashes unceremoniously in a heap on top of a near by rug.

Finn winces at the loud thud.

"Well...the first kick was actually not that bad. I think you have some natural talent. But the heart of the Delirious Tiger style is 'the exactness of the furious beast'. You have to let your movements come from the animal part of your mind, but in a precisely controlled way. Of course, some of the moves use scratching and biting, so they're much easier for a shifter to do."

"Where did you learn to fight, Ardanto?"

Ardanto glances at his companion Dauros for agreement before he stands and over dramatical bows as he exclaims "M'lady, my sword, my body and my mind are yours to command for as long as you have need of them".

With that he then sits and grins rather foolishly at Daurros while waiting for his friends acceptance speech.

"Well, as I mentioned earlier, I'm not really in any position to decline. My skills, as they are, are at your disposal.

On a related note, Lady Vanderboren, as Ardanto and I mentioned earlier, it may be prudent for you to take on one or more members of this group in your manor to be here around the clock. Though I cannot personally recall anyone bearing a grudge against your family, you cannot discount the misfortune that has befallen you recently to be mere coincidence."

Sometime after lunch, Daurros finds Ardanto to make a suggestion.
"Ardanto, don't you think a group such as ours deserves a proper name? After all, isn't that other group Lavinia has working for her call itself the 'Jade Ravens'? We wouldn't want someone to say, 'Hey! It's the Jade Ravens! And there's that other group! What's-their-names!' Perhaps we could bring this up to everyone at some point? What do you think?"

Ardanto pauses from rubbing his shins and looks puzzled for a while bfore he speaks slowly and quitely "Do you know Master Finn, I really can not recall the first time I held a sword, I was raised aboard a pirate ship, part of the Crimson fleet (*1), so I had a tough and violent upbringing. Luckily for me I managed to escape their clutches a few years ago and I have travelled the high seas seeking adventure since then". "I feel blessed that my friends out number my enemies", he directs this comment at Master Finn, leaving little doubt that he already counts him as one of his friends.

"Did you know Mr Finn, that the local theatre house has a play about my exploits?" he says with no small pride. "Let us hope that our future actions make it worthy of a second play," he claps Master Finn on the shoulder and grins widely as he says this.

"Daurros my old chum, once again your vast intellect out shines mine, of course we should have a name, hummm have you any in mind?". "Maybe the others have an idea of there own?". He looks at the rest of the assembly for inspiration.

Female Human (mostly) Rogue 2

Whisper makes a small sound at the offer, a surprised exhalation as she clutches her more than generous payment for work so far tightly to her chest. Unable to find the words she merely gives a tiny nod at the offer, her mind already racing a mile a minute as she thinks on all of the good things she could do with that kind of money.

As Ardanto attempts the fighting style she gives a wince as he manages to fall. Why do people insist on making things showier than they need to be?' she silently questions before looking away. 'Although that first kick did look good'

Lavinia smiles a blushes a bit "I can't see a need for anyone to stay here \,But service to a noble family even one such as mine may open many doors in Sasserine."

Looking very happy she seats again at the table "In fact I have a task for you all today. I have need to travel to castle Terknian to check the family vaults. All noble family have vaults under the castle some very extensive and trapped. I have never seen any even my own,but things overheard from my farther leads me to think it is small and safe..there may be some form of guardian I am not sure. I would like you all to accompany me to the castle to provide protection and add in investigating to constants."

Soon after a set of coaches arrive to take the party to the high noble district .Were you ferry over to castle Teraknian. You spend little time in the castle itself stopping only to speak with a clerk. He verifies Lavinia's identity and signet ring and then escorts you down a spiral staircase onto a large circular chamber.
Over a dozen five-foot wide hallways radiate out from the central vault. Each of the halls is ten-foot long and ends in a single iron door. The clerk stops here wish you all a good day and starts back up the stairs.

If anything needs done before we go on please say so you can meet the group at the farry if something needs done before the group goes into the castle

Warforged Fighter 2 / Incarnate 4 / Ironsoul Forgemaster 3

Guard quickly rushes back to his cart, getting his weapons. He then decides to be better equiped than on the tour to the Nixie and tries to get a quick shopping done, searching a potion of Repair Light Damage If something like that exists and a potion of Shield of Faith.

GM

Guard

As there are a few artificers and wizards in Sasserine and as both items are low powered common potions . They can be found very easy. The cost would be 25 GP each and it would make Guard having to shop fast to meet the ferry to the castle.

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

A level 1 potion costs 25 gp, not 50 gp? How much would a level 1 scroll cost, then?

Fighter Level 9

Ardanto came with his sword but no armour, so he also will have to nip back to his inn room to retrieve that and his hand axe.

Apart from his weapons and Armour he does not feel the need to bring anything else along, which is good because he has no other adventuring equipment.

Once in the circular chamber, Ardanto will ask Lady Vanderboren "What next my lady? Do you know which of these vaults is your families?".

He will scan each hallway for any hidden dangers,
Perception roll to notice a threat down any of the corridors. (1d20=2)

Seeing none, he will then try to help his more knowledgeable companion Daurros to identify any markings or heraldry which will identify Lady Vanderboren's vault, but fails completely.

Aid other (Daurros) on a Knowledge Nobility roll to identify the Vanderboren vault. (1d20+2=7)

Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9

I didn't really say what Daurros had on him, other than his rapier. I'm assuming that he had his rapier and dagger, but left his gear back at his room (including spellbook). He heads back with Ardanto to quickly retrieve his two scrolls, but leaves the remainder of his gear there as it shouldn't be needed.

EDIT: Nobility check to identify the vault, if needed (1d20+8=28)

GM

finn/Guard..anyone else this might be important too
yeah I was in a hurry 1st level potions are 50GP each sorry about that use prices listed in the beta

Warforged Fighter 2 / Incarnate 4 / Ironsoul Forgemaster 3

I assumed it would be no problem to get those potions and took the price of 3.5 potions from the SRD, so I got it right the first time.

Rushing back from the short shopping spree Guard catches up to the rest of the party on the last second to board the ferry to the vault.
He shoulders his weapons (he brought both the heavy flail and the halberd this time) and stays close to Lady Vanderborn, without getting in her way, as to protect her as good as he can.

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

Finn stays on the alert, his longspear at the ready, and keeps a sharp eye and ear open for any trouble or secret passageways.

GM

The short passage way ends at a solid-looking iron door. The portal is emblazoned with a simple rune-an eight pointed star. Above the door, inscribed in flowing script on a polished silver plaque is the name "Vanderborn". A single handle protrudes from the door ,just below a circular depression bearing the mark of the Vanderborn signet.
Lavinia touches the depression with the ring. The door flashes with blue light and swings open and the party can see the room beyond.

The floor of this domed chamber is polished with green marble. Two fifteen-foo-wide alcoves have lower ceilings and feature marble pillars carved to resemble coiling snakes. In the center of the room, five similar pillars are embedded into the walls, rising up thirty feet to the dome over head. Looking up, the dome bears a huge representation of the same eight-pointed star that was engraved on the door to the south.

Fighter Level 9

Ardanto watches the blue flash as the door opens, "magically sealed as well, are there likely to be any other wards or traps beyond the door m'lady?"

Peering from the safety of the corridor he surveys the room, hoping to catch a glimpse of a noble families wealth.

Ardanto Valanto wrote:

"Perhaps before we enter the chamber, if anyone in the group should happen to have any skill with finding traps, they should check out the entrance and room?" Daurros remarks, glancing at Whisper as he speaks. "I'll also look for any magical auras that may be present."

After traps have been checked for, or even if no one does, Daurros will cast detect magic and scan the room (standing as far back as possible - the spell has a range of 60'), starting with the center pillars and then moving to the two side alcoves. If he finds any auras, he will remain focused on it and try to determine the school and strength (Knowledge (Arcana) check if needed to determine school of magic of an aura (1d20+8=16)).

In regards to the eight-pointed star, Daurros asks Lavinia: "Lady Vanderboren, do you happen to know if there is any significance to the eight-pointed star symbols present?" If she does not, Daurros tries to recall if he's ever seen it (Knowledge Arcana, Local, and Nobility checks to determine significance of the eight-pointed star. (1d20+8=20, 1d20+8=21, 1d20+8=24)).

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

Finn scrutinizes the room (from the hallway, at first) for any concealed threats.

Female Human (mostly) Rogue 2

Whisper looks thoughtful before speaking in her usual tiny voice. "A vault magically sealed will likely have traps but traps designed to not to effect a Vanderboren.. Lady Vanderboren, will you come in with me? Or at least lend me something with your family crest so I can let any traps see that I am here for you.."

Warforged Fighter 2 / Incarnate 4 / Ironsoul Forgemaster 3

Guard looks somewhat surprised at the request of Whisper, asking: "Traps *short pause* can see?"

Female Human (mostly) Rogue 2

"Magical ones can.. I can dodge mechanical ones but magic.. magic would hurt" She replies quietly "I just.. think maybe it'll be of help. The ring was needed to get past the entranceway afterall.."

Fighter Level 9

Ardanto turns to Whisper "Is there anything you need me to do or shall I just keep my big feet out of your way?" he asks with a smile.
Turning to Guard he mutters "Show me something to stick the pointy end of my sword in and I am your man, but this magic hocus pocus is not my cup of tea."
"I leave that to the experts" he adds glancing at Daurros and Whisper.

Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9

Revise my actions a bit ... if it will assist with finding anything, Daurros will cast detect magic before anyone goes in. Duration will be 1 minute, so there should be enough time for Daurros to cast, scan the entryway, then wait for Whisper to check it before entering. He'll try to scan the central pillar as well before the duration runs out.

"I will do that." Guard promisses.

GM

Lavina does not know what they star is or what it is doing here. Daurros recalls seeing it on a sign outside a building on the Eastern edge of the market district.
At whispers request Lavina give her the ring and she makes her way into the room. Daurros casts his magics upon the room He can see a faint trace of magic on something moving and upon the northern pillar. Be for he can shout a snake of iron and copper closes upon Whisper It moves with a silence that belies its construction and sways like a cobra. It nears the hand with the ring then slithers away toward the far Conner seemly satisfied with her.

I need search checks if there being made

Warforged Fighter 2 / Incarnate 4 / Ironsoul Forgemaster 3

Seeing the 'snake' approach Whisper Guard readies his Halberd as to rush to aid, if need be. Watching it slither away peacefully the warforged relaxes a bit, but keeps on the ready.

Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9

Daurros attempts to quickly identify what type of creature this is ... I'm assuming a construct since it's iron and copper. Knowledge Arcana to ID the guardian (1d20+8=13)

Otherwise, if it doesn't make any threatening moves, he stands back and let's Whisper check out the room

"Careful," Daurros tells Whisper, "I'm assuming that the Vanderboren ring keeps that thing from attacking. And I've detected some sort of magic on the one pillar; perhaps that is the vault door?" Daurros indicates the pillar in question.

Keeper: Is the cobra-thing ignoring everyone? Or just Whisper?

GM

The cobra seems to not care anymore

Fighter Level 9

"Wow, what the heck is that?" Ardanto scampers over to the Metal Snake to have a closer look. "I gotta get me one of those, he remarks turning to Daurros".

"I guess that answers our question about traps that can see" he quips.

After studying the snake he has a quick wander around the chamber.

Search Check around vault. (1d20=19)

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

Finn cautiously eyes the cobra as he steps into the room and joins the group examining the door.

"Is there a keyhole or some kind of password to enter?"

Warforged Fighter 2 / Incarnate 4 / Ironsoul Forgemaster 3
Ardanto Valanto wrote:
"I guess that answers our question about traps that can see" he quips.

"Although I would not call that a trap. Guardian fits it better." Guard replies, staying with Lady Vanderborn.

Female Human (mostly) Rogue 2

Whisper moves carefully around the room, looking over everything, the mark on the ceiling, the walls and the pillars.

Perception (1d20+4=22)

GM

Whisper and Ardanto makes there was toward the far pillar that Daurros had pointed as magic, while Guard and Forzakhad move into the room with an eye toward the "snake" one with weapons raised the other with the power of his mind ready and focused. Finn makes his way toward whisper and Ardanto who examine the pillar for a way in.
With a small click whisper gives a small smile as the snakes making up the pillar animate and move to the side raveling a room beyond.

It's an octagonal room that is supported by a single large pillar with dozens of deep groves along its sides. The seven walls of this room each bear fantastically detailed bas-relief carvings of exotic monster in threatening poses. Starting at the wall immediately to the west of the entrance to the room and moving clockwise, the carvings depict a tentacled monster with a glaring red eye and a mouth full of teeth, a looming dragon, a fish-like creature with three eyes and four tentacles, a two-headed giant wielding a pairs of immense clubs, a spherical creature with 4 eyestalks and a bulging central eye over a drooling maw, a gorilla-like beast with a fanged maw and six eyes and finally a towering black spider with seven eyes. Each monsters eyes consist of a glittering of red stone. The ceiling above is only ten feet high, with the now familiar eight-pointed star pattern radiating out from the grooved pillar. The arms of the star are black save the one pointing south toward the door is red.

Fighter Level 9

Ardanto rubs the back of his head and peers curiously into the room. "What next m'lady?" he asks smiling at Whisper.

Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9

Daurros cautiously moves in behind the rest. He tries to identify what types of creatures these statues depict; he's a bit confused as to why a spider would only have 7 eyes, though.

I can't access IC from work, unfortunately, so I can't give any rolls. However, since I have a good idea what some of them probably are from your descriptions (from a metagame perspective), and Daurros does not have any ranks in Knowledge (Dungeoneering) or (Nature), it's likely he wouldn't know most of them, anyway.

Looking at the rest, he says, "Are any of the rest of you capable of casting detect magic? I admit I'm currently limited to just the once I've already used it ..."

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1
Daurros Erdai wrote:

"I can, but I'm afraid I don't know much about magic."

Finn casts Detect Magic, but has no ranks in Know: Arcana or Spellcraft

Female Human (mostly) Rogue 2

Whisper walks into the room and looks around the walls curiously. One by one she points to each of the images, mouthing numbers as she goes. Counting the glittering eyes she gives a tiny smile before digging a scrap of paper out of her pocket.

"Excuse me.." She quietly addresses the group "Can anyone tell me how many eyes a chimera, a cyclops, a medusa, an umber hulk and a basilisk have? And which way is east and west in here? Oh.. and there has to be some sort of pointer to point the combination out.." The young rogue babbles a little with a blush, hating talking this much. She'd usually work it out alone but as they were there it was plausibly quicker.

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

"What's an unger hulk?"

Fighter Level 9

"Hunger Hulk, never heard of it. I saw a Cyclops once, he only had one eye, well none actually, after I poked it out." chuckles Ardanto.

"I wouldn't like to guess how many eyes a Medusa has, she has two in her face, but then her hair is made of snakes, many snakes, and they each have eyes, so I would say a lot," he shrugs his shoulders apologetically for not knowing more.

Then talking to Whisper he announces, "The shape on the ceiling looks like a compass, so I guess that is the pointer, I have no idea which way is east or west I am afraid, maybe the pillar twists? "Can I ask what is on the paper?"

Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9

"Hmmm ... I believe you're right about the Medusa and Cyclops, Ardanto. But I don't know enough about the others to hazard a guess? Untrained Survival roll to determine direction (1d20+1=6) And I'm not certain which way East-West is here underground."

male Kalashtar Shaper 2

Knowledge about the statue (Arcana, dungeoneering and the planes all have +8) (1d20+8=11)

"I am not entirely sure, what this statue and these pictures are."

The Captain is back on board.

Fighter Level 9

can we look at the spoiler which hides the notes contents a few pages back? Otherwise we are peeing into the wind.

Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9

Addressing Whisper, Daurros asks, "Does that scrap of paper you're holding have something to do with this?"

Seeker

Spoiler:
INT check for Daurros, in case the group gets stumped; entirely up to you if you want to use it ... Intelligence check (1d20+4=22) wow, IC was nice to me!

GM

Ok guys using a little DM flate here

Forzakhad gets a far away look in his eye. He looks around the room walking from carving to carving. One he is done he speaks almost as in a trance. "Roper,Dragon, aboleth, ettin, spectator, gray render, and a spider. A chimira has 6 eyes a cyclops1 a medusa 2, umberhulk4 and a basilisk 2." with that he seems to come to himself and looks back toward the walls.

To Finn the walls seem to glow in sets of squares like something hidden by magic.

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

"There is some magic in this room. I see a pattern of squares."

Finn describes the pattern to the rest of Lavinia's hirelings.

Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9

Daurros looks at Finn. "My assumption is that those are likely the individual vaults or 'safes'. Now we need to figure out how to get to them."

Daurros turns to Captain Farzakhad. "Captain, were you trying to point out a relationship between the creatures listed on Whisper's paper and the ones here by the number of eyes they have?"

Finally, Daurros approaches Whisper again. "Whisper, can we all see that paper? And why were you asking which direction east and west are?"

GM

Lavina looks to whisper "I think we are standing in the south, do you think that pillar has something to do with it?"

Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1

"Maybe the numbers that Whisper is mumbling about refer to a number of 'notches' that we need to turn the pillar this way or that."

Finn frowns. "Honestly, I don't know anything about this. Where I come from, treasures are guarded with secrecy or with brutal monsters, not with sly puzzles."

"If no one else has a better idea, I am willing to try turning the pillar myself. You might wish to leave the room, Lady Vanderboren."
