Ardanto shakes his head in disbelief, "do you think Lavinia was trying to punish us for something when she put these particular passengers on our ship and not hers?" he strokes the stubble on his chin, "maybe the Jade Ravens would prefer to go instead, a few of them are about as animated as a statue already."

"Have any of you heard of a many legged lizard that can do such a thing, I have only heard of the snake haired Gorgons before?" he asks the others, "and more to the point, if it does exist, how do I stop my self becoming a garden ornament?"

(Female Shifter Rogue 9)

"I dont suppose ya know how it turns things ta stone?" Karkalla asks "Would hate for one of ya ta be statued then for the rest of us ta have ta show up and drag ya back ta the ship."

"You're seeing this all wrong, Ardanto. Our passengers help keep the journey from becoming stale and boring. What would our journey have been like without Abner... bad example, but I believe you get my point."

(Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9)

Does Daurros recognize the lizard creature being talked about, based upon my knowledge checks?

Surprisingly, Daurros does actually seem very intrigued by the prospect of investigating these ruins, and a smile creeps across his face. "Well, I for one agree with Uri ... Urol. This does seem very exciting. Perhaps Avner should come with us, eh?"

Not on the ones ya listed, however any critter with powers like that would be magical in nature. So for such a critter a know arcana roll might help

knowledge (arcana) 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29

Ardanto lets out a belly laugh, "you have a good point, maybe rather than seeing this voyage as being cursed, I should see it as the gods way of stopping us drinking ourselves to death on a safe boring voyage. he grins widely, "so now someone tell me how I prevent Finn from presenting me to the Velkarune's Horns as a warrior statue if this thing turns me to stone?" he ponders for a few more moments, chuckling to him self, "Now I think of it, if I get turned into a statue, see that I get put in a brothel, at least the view will be better than a bunch of sweaty gladiators......" after a short thoughtful pause he adds, "hmmmmm, actually oiled, muscular gladiators doesn't sound too bad, maybe Finn could have me after all."

"If that monster turns people into statues, what would it do to me? Make me a golem?" ponders Guard jokingly, to light the atmosphere.

"Good point, you better go first just in case," Finn replies with a hint of a smile.

Sorry slow to update again. I am gonna avoid the spoiler and just give out the info Daurros would now for now. Hope ya don't mind a bit of NPCing Daurros

Daurros thinks a bit "The creature sounds like it might be a basalisk. A multi-legged lizard like beast that is well known to have a gaze that can turn foe to stone. Not massively large about 12 feet or so and a few hundred pounds. Umm there is tell that blood from a fresh killed Basalisk may reverse the effects of it's gaze, but I am unsure if that is true or just a fable

Urol raises his eyebrows at that'Really! Neat! we should try that...or at lest collect some of the blood"

Ok night before ya hit the jungle at this point ya have been away from sasserine 36 days and have sail roughly 1300 miles or so. Which is somewhat slow going, but ya have been coasting a good amount and have slowed more then a few to allow the nixie to catch up. Across open water ya are faster but your following someone else charts and not 100% sure where ya are going. Time back to the city would be faster. So any plans befor ya leave the ship?

(Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1)

"Oh, blood can fix the condition, can it?" Finn replies with visible relief. "Then no doubt we have nothing to worry about. Why --" he looks at Urol mischevously "-- I bet we could even capture one and keep it as a pet! My spear is well-suited for taking creatures alive."

In a whisper to to rest of the Falcons he adds: "We could get Avner to look after it; we could tie a bag over his head whenever he needs to feed it, or shovel its s@#+."

In preparation for landfall (at last!), Finn oils and sharpens his weapons and does some calisthenics and practices some spear katas. Even though his skin still looks a bit unhealthy, his fighting spirit seems to have recovered a little.

"While I don't mind making Avner take care of a basilisk, for some reason I think keeping one as a pet is just a universally bad idea."

Daurros raises an eyebrow at his frined's remark. "Really? My friend, I fear you have been at sea too long, especially cooped up with four other men. Perhaps we should arrange a 'weekend pass' for you on the Nixie?"

"Well, in any event, I must retire for the evening. I need a good rest so that I may prepare my spells in the morning. Sleep well, all."

Ok a few questions as most of yall will get back on before me in the morning. Do ya plan to take 1 boat or 2? Who all is going? Will there be crew with ya to row or watch the boats? Anything else ya would like to do or add before we move out?

Assuming she is invited Karkalla will go (happy at the chance to run around with her repeater again)

Guard lets himself magically repair, if he isn't fully working by then.
He will take 8 hours to rest, preparing to rework his soulmelds, unshaping the sailors bracers in favor of his incarnate weapon.
He ponders exchanging his sandals for the mantle of flame as well... and asks Daurros about that.

Karkalla is one of the Falcons now, she will also receive the monthly payment from Lavinia, so she gets an invite.

Ardanto would suggest that the Jade Ravens come ashore and guard the boats and area, that way, any passengers an crew that want to can stretch their legs. So it would probably be more than 2 boats if they agree.
If they do not agree, then he suggests two boats row them out and the crew return to the ship with them.

Avner is more than welcome to join them, he would make a mighty fine bust after you chop of the arms and most of the torso, anyone else who feels the need to become an ornament is also welcome.

Ardanto asks guard if is it possible to knock up a helmet that has no visor, or a visor you can only see the ground with?

He makes a point of going to see Lavinia, under the pretence of suggesting that the Ravens guard the beach, but really to play the I might not return card.

Apart from that, he goes through a few morning exercises to get him self limbered up and practices trying to fight with his eyes closed, he then dons his armour and makes a few quips about everyone remembering where they parked.

In answer to Daurros, in principle Ardanto is not above a bit of man on man loving, if it was good enough for the Romans, it is good enough for him. He has just never got around to it.

"Not protective, not good looking, but working, eh? Should be an easy thing to do."

Daurros is a "whatever floats yer boat" kind of person - doesn't bother him, he just didn't know that about his friend. And Daurros has come to pride himself a bit on being a know-it-all, so it caught him off-guard a bit.

Guard wrote:

"You sound like you are describing some of the crew." Aranto chuckles.

To be fair I only think it has ever been talked about on DMTools and while Ardanto is not above it Jacob would run a mile.

Thoven makes the necessary preparations and prepares to go ashore with the rest of the group.

The morning is warm as the Party prepares to get underway. TheSea Wyvern is anchored a few hundard feet off the beach with the Blue Nixie not far behind. You can see the Jade ravens boat already making for the beach as Kol yells to the group on deck 'What are you waiting for the jungles that way! He points with a laugh to the mass of green you can see not all that far from the sandy shore.

Amella is giving orders with the intends to allow passenger and crew a bit of shore leave on the beach as the group explores the jungle. Urol busy himself running about collecting things , his pack may just be bigger then the Gnome and his body is almost hidden with scroll cases and pouches. "Looks like a short fat dwarf" Avner says with a chuckle as he leans against the rail with a bored expression. Livina whisper something to Toxim as Skald seems to stare out into the jungle with some fascination.

Soon your on your way rowing across the water as the Jungle grows larger. You can see the ravens on the beach sand kicking as they check for threats, none can be seen so far. As you hit the beach the muggy morning air hits you and you get a good look at the jungle ahead. Tall vine covered trees and thick underbrush can be seen and with a little exploring following close behind the excited Gnome you find what seems to be a trail.

The jungle has done much to cover it but you can indeed see a rough hacked trail leading into the darkened jungle. Even with the bright morning light to your back the darkness seems to cling to the living cavern of trees and bush before you. Urol starts into the jungle with an excited yelp.'This way!" He yells before vanishing into the underbrush

If anyone has survial or such be helpful here. Actions?

I'll follow Urol. I'll try to keep him from just running ahead but I'm more concerned with the safety of the group as a whole than just the excitable gnome.
After a few moments of getting the feel for the area, Toxim moves of into the foliage. As he scouts, sometimes he leaves the trail but stays close and warns the others when the begin to stray from it.
It feels good to him to be doing something he is so familiar doing.

Survival 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
K:Nature 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Just to confirm, Guard has been repaired to full? Was he at full yesterday (ie. did I have time to memorize a different spell)?

Yeah it has been a few ways since the fight, he is back to full and ya know thoven could channel a few times a day and take care of what he couldn't get, same with healing the rest of ya

Toxim

Spoiler:

First off I forgot you speller above. Lilith says bring her something interesting back and you'll see just how..creative she can be to her returning hero.

As for your roll. Well you can tell something large moved though there, ya would guess a few things but some type of large cat for sure

(Female Shifter Rogue 9)

Karkalla follows the Gnome best she can Keeping her repeater crossbow loaded and ready.

q1. Did Guard get a chance to make me my blind helmet?
q2. Who is Kol?

Ardanto says his farewells to Lavinia and the Jade Ravens, making a point of saying a word of thanks and encouragement to each of them in turn.

He then takes up a position on the beach and looks at who seems to be the most at ease in the wilderness, seeing as that seems to be Toxim he asks, "so what do you want me to do?" he follows Toxims orders and does as he instructs. Sweating like a Paladin in a Brothel in his layers of armour, "I say Daurros, I don't suppose there is an enchantment that could keep me cool," he slaps at a large fly "and that repels insects?" he chuckles as one of the branches snags his leg making him stumble. "There had better be a solid gold idol the size of a ogre in these ruins."

Guard asked Daurros if he thinks it would be better to have Guards sandals of water walking, or the mantle of flames.
Is Lavinia going with us, or keeping to her ship?

Guard takes up a frontern position, having Snem hover always over his shoulder, bobling around.
A jungle is a new environment for him, so he stays behind Toxim, looking after the human's behaviour.

(Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9)

Guard - Sorry, missed that. I'm not entirely certain what the mantle of flames does, but my initial thoughts would be that it may have more use in the jungle and ruins than the sandals. That would probably be Daurros' recommendation.

Daurros wipes a bead of sweat from his brow, and responds to Ardanto. "In fact, I do have such a spell, at least as far as the 'keeping cool' goes. However, unless we really need it, I would prefer we endure the humidity for now. Conservation of limited resources, and all that." If Ardanto will end up suffering any penalties due to the heat from his armor, Daurros is happy to cast endure elements from a scroll on him.

(Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1)

Before landing, Finn protects himself with a magical energy field mage armor.

"Urol! Get back here, you blasted gnome! Oh, Khyber..."

Finn dashes off in pursuit of the gnome, his swift strides hopefully outpacing the naturalist's stubby legs.

Yes it's above 90 so everyone needs a DC15 fort save per hour anyone wearing heavy armor takes a -4, so the spell would be useful. And ya need to make 2 saves please, Also Lavinia stayed on her ship

You travel though the steaming jungle, moving slowly , exploration a crawl for near 2 hours you have tryed to keep the gnome in check Toxim and Finn keeping near of slightly ahead of Urol who seems to babble endlessly about plants{which he collects a few} and animals{ he points out 3 poisonous snakes and a frog he says has interesting effects if licked} But for the last twenty minutes or say he keeps saying your close, but the group is hot and sweaty and trying to save on water and not just how sure how close this ruin is.

Suddenly large tan colored cats with long curved fangs burst from the underbrush springing a surprise attack at the group. One cat pounces toward Finn as another larger cat hits the group from behind slamming into Guard. But amazingly the warforged fends off all attacks, even surprised the cat is unable to get though Guards massive armor.

OK I'll hold off resolving the attacks on Finn as he gets AoO and is not surprised. And wow I rolled the worst possible roll known to man outside a 1. And oh yeah...surprise round!

Duarros,Finn,Snem

Spoiler:

You notice something trailing you, to the left and right, it moves with great stealth and sense them as they move to attack.

You three may act in the surprise round

Tigers=26
Snem=+8
Daurros=8
Finn=4

Map

First, I am so disappointed in myself for not seeing this ambush. Second, I've decided to keep Repair Light Damage memorized as Guard may get injured. Finally, I've cast Endure Elements on myself each day since we started this journey. I posted it somewhere way back when and keep it noted in my profile.

I'll move up to help Finn with the tiger that attacked him
Scimitar 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Confirm Crit 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

To be honest I rolled badly all around there, for yall for me, for the attacks, which is good for yall really....damnable warforged and high AC and me not being able to roll an attack higher then 4.

Seeker: The presence of the soulspark grants Guard the Alertness feat. Just saying. :)

Surprise round:Glowing bright blue in color shows the surprise of Snem to the attack of the large cats. He reacts impulsively with a Soulblast against the attacking creature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19 Damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

(Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1)

Fort saves:

Spoiler:
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22; 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Surprise round: Finn mutters a magical syllable, and suddenly he is surrounded by a number of exact duplicates, shifting and shimmering around him!

1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 duplicates for wand of Mirror Image.

Round 1:

Finn lashes out with a pair of spear attacks on the tiger in front of him.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

1d8 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (5) = 11
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

1d8 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 5 + (2) = 13

Did one of the cats eat Ardanto? They do not look big enough to do a swallow whole.

Keeper of Forbidden Lore wrote:

Wow, I need to roll well, I assume the island we are going to is the same, if so then I need to seriously rethink my character.

Fort: +4(class) +2(con) -4 (heavy armour) = +2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Fort: +4(class) +2(con) -4 (heavy armour) = +2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

I might as well throw an action point at the last one in hope:

Action Point: 1d6 ⇒ 5

So made them both, just.

Ardanto is beginning to regret being a walking tin can, the sweat pours down his back and stings his eyes. He stops to adjust his helmet and scratch at a fresh insect bite when a blur leaps from the jungle.

Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Ardanto has a +3 modifier on initiative.

(Female Shifter Rogue 9)

Fort saves

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Action point for the second one

1d6 ⇒ 6

Warforged are immune to exhaustion and fatigue, so I think I don't need to make those fort-saves. Tell me if I am wrong there and I get em done.

Round 1 actions
Snem continues to glow brightly over the shoulder of the warforged, letting loose another soul blast at the big cat, hoping to hit it like with the previous one: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Guard is too surprised to react in time to get at the monster before it get's to him, so he is glad to have his plating work in favor for him.
He swings his incarnate warhammer from where it rested on his shoulder towards the attacker: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13 Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Fort Saves

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Haven't had time to respond til now, but Daurros will use his two scrolls of endure elements on himself and Ardanto as soon as they hit the beach and Daurros realizes how hot it is. So Ardanto need not waste the action point.

Ok finishing out the surprise round..which ya know Daurros didn't act in and finn forgot his AoO :)

Finn stabs at the cat, but fails to land a hit as it pounces on him, the cat pounces but the monk sidesteps the attacks fending off the growling cat. Finn casts a spells bringing two Finns into being and the cat swipes at the distracted monk but again is fending off, Snem fires at the Cat facing Guard burning flesh on the growing beast.

The cat now facing the three Finns swipes at the defending monks unable to land a blow The one at the back of the party attacks guard still unable to get though the warforges armor. Snem once more blasts the cat, burning flesh. Guard brings his hammer down at the cat but seems to hit only air as Finn stabs into his foe with one of his strikes. Toxim moves around one of the Finns and opens up a large gash in the tiger

Ok folks round one, some of yall posted attacks up above which is fine, Duarros ya can still act out a surprise round action if ya wish, I will use Ardantos roll for the group

And still I am not on the map, when do I get to come out of the bushes where I am obviously taking a pee?

Ardanto arrives on the scene sweaty and distracted, "Bad kitty!" he cries as he closes on the closest cat, using the move to draw both swords and taking a swipe at the humongous feline.

Longsword +12 (1d8+8 19-20) 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29

1d8 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

"I would hate to see the size of the mice with cats this big!," he cries as his blow strikes true.

Daurros:
Thank you for the Endure Elements, it is most appreciated, with out it I would end up exhausted by the end of 8 hour every day more often than not. I will have to look at a long term solution to this if the island is the same temperature.

Ugh, damn...missed that ya was there, just icon was invisible to players and I forgot to make it visible..Your behind Urol, In front of Duarros, behind one of the Finns

(Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9)

D'oh. Sorry.

Surprise round: Suddenly realizing they're under attack, Daurros retrieves his wand of ray of enfeeblement and targets one of the big cats, firing off a sickly greenish ray.

Sorry I normally do AoO's I am not sure why I did not this time really. Duarros as far as I know a ray may indeed crit..poor kitty.

Duarros activates his wand first at the cat attacking Guard then at the one facing the Finns, each animal it hit by the sickly green ray.

Karkalla steps to the side and opens fire with her crossbow with a load THRACK!, one of the bolts sinks deep into the cats flesh. Ardanto moves around the smaller cat flanking it with Toxim and opens up the animals flesh with his sword. Thoven steps forward and brings his mace down upon the larger cats shoulder. Urol being unable to attack moves closer to Daurros

The cats although hurt seem determined and the larger one moves back a bit and attacks Thoven, the cat mauls Thoven with claws and bit 24 hp[ooc] grabbing the priest

The cat at front swipes at The Finns and bits at Toxim. One of the Finns shatters like glass and fads away and a gash from the claws blooms on the other two[ooc]14hp and Toxim it bitten on the thigh15hp

Your map..now with Ardanto!

(Male Half-elf Monk 4/Sorcerer 1)

Finn flinches in pain as he steps back and strikes again, this time focusing his ki to add a third attack.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

1d8 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 5 + (3) = 10
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

1d8 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 5 + (2) = 11
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

1d8 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 5 + (1) = 13

(Female Shifter Rogue 9)

Seeing the cat grab Thorven Karkalla charges it hoping to impale it on her crossbow blade

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Damage

1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

More of the same from Toxim. He tries to maintain or obtain a flanking position.
Scimitar 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 flank bonus with Ardanto is included

Confirm Crit 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 Damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Also, I don't mind keeping a 1st level slot dedicated for an Endure Elements for Ardanto.

(Male Human Wizard (Universal) 9)

Wow, those things are nasty. All that damage, especially after that one took 12 points of strength penalty! Also, with 6 folks who need it, can we provide three endure elements per day? Or does that eat up all of Toxim's spell slots?

Daurros fires off three magic missiles at the closest cat.

damage 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 3, 1) + 3 = 9
