Ardanto Valanto |
Ardanto is unsure if the chef has lost his marbles or if the food is tainted, he sniffs the fish with disdain, wrinkles his nose up and states the blooming obvious, "smells like fish to me."
"How much is salvageable? Give me a complete list of what we have left and your best estimate of what has been done to the food. Tavey, your on guard duty, the food stores are out of bounds, captains orders, until I say so."
Ardanto will bring the spoiled/tampered with/insane cook to the rest of the parties attention as well as Amella.
Keeper of Forbidden Lore |
A few of the crew chuckle as Fathom strips and leaps into the water. Skald however does not fallow but Avner and his ever looming bodyguard do walk over to the rail and look down into the sea "I had a feeling she might be interesting, nice ass on that one" he says with a chuckle, that sends skald away from the deck and below.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Below deck Morpere tosses the fish to the floor "Bah, you humans and your weak sense of smell. I reckon half the ships stores are tainted. And all the fresh water. I hear the elfling ye brought aboard is a water witch of some type, maybe she can help there because if not we are in trouble'
Tavey seems happy to be given a real assignment "Yes captain" he says eagerly
"Fathom" |
Oh dear, the food/water is tainted and the witch has leapt over the side....what wonderful timing my character has...
Keeper of Forbidden Lore |
Ardanto will know that 4 days behind you, almost 5 now lays the elven colony you did not put into,, but it looks like 6 good days of sailing and your be at the isle of Ruja. While no colony lays on the isle and it is rumored to be the lair of some great beast and surrounded by cliffs it may have fresh water.
With half the stores spoiled, you may still be able to get by with some fishing, if a bit lean. But fresh water you must have.
Karkalla |
"I'll go get Fathom" Karkalla heads above deck and once learning that Fathom is in the water dives in after her.Once she has caught up she signals Fathom up to the surface then begins to explain the situation "We have a slight problem some of the ship's supplies and water seems ta have been tainted so Toxim and the others were wondering if ya could maybe do something ta help with it?"
Keeper of Forbidden Lore |
Once below deck.
Morpere does not recall anything out of the odd anyhow, always someone coming into the kitchen. "Humm lets see, yesterday...Velous and Vash stopped by as did a few of those new crewmwn, the Cyrain ones. Benand Selios, Amella, travey here..and humm oh and Arainn and That prick that works for the asslord came by and picked up meals for them. "

"Any of them near both the water supply and the food while they were here?"
Daurros Erdai |
Daurros** spoiler omitted **
Daurros is quiet for a moment, and then tells Arainn. "Yes, that makes sense. Thank you again for bringing me my meals. I will not keep you from your duties any longer."
Later, hearing some of the commotion, Daurros tears himself away from his research to see what's going on. He arrives as Fathom casts her spells on the food stores. "What's going on here?"

Fathom's gaze turns to Daurros, "Karkalla come an' tell me de food an' de water been spoilin' from some t'ing." Fathom shrugs her bare, sun bronzed shoulders,
"It won' take but a little while to set t'ings to right." She adds, going back about her work.
Keeper of Forbidden Lore |
It may take her a while as the spell has a limit, but she can cast it as many times as it takes
Finn smells the food, it smells of fish the other scent seems to be gone.
Karakall
"No more then normal, I have never had a need to track anyone as , well who poisons a ships stores they are on? the orc says
Daurros
The elf nods "As you wish" and leaves Daurros alone, leaving his meal behind.
Finn Killshrike |
"Well, I guess she's good for something after all," Finn comments, changing the subject.
"Ardanto -- you say this isle is the home of a great beast?" Finn gets a wistful smile. "Imagine if we could capture it and bring it back to the arena in Sasserine. The other gladiators would eat their hearts out! Well, maybe on our way back..."
Ardanto Valanto |
"Did you all miss the SURROUNDED by cliffs bit?" Ardanto asks, really emphasising the word surrounded. "Unless this boat can fly like its name sake or you fancy some rock climbing we will not be stopping there unless it is a dire emergency."
He still has no knowledge of magic and is too proud to ask what the heck a teleport is.
"Right I want a full list of who entered this chamber drawn up since we last knew the food was okay, I then want the same done from now on every time we have an incident, hopefully we can narrow the list down. Also lock the food store, if it was not for your fantastic nose we could all be ill or worse now." He claps the Cook on the back as he says the last part, happy that the man had averted a disaster. "No one is above suspicion, even me, so lets start trying to narrow down who are very inefficient saboteur is."

"Oh." Finn looks sheepish. "I forgot that part. Must have been the poisonous food I tasted."
Toxim ir' Kinain |
"Three things, Captain. First, Daurros can already fly and he'll only get more impressive as he unlocks more arcane knowledge. So, yes, I'd like to do some rock climbing. If nothing else it will give me some time away from Avner. Second, this is probably the saboteur's best attempt yet. We'd all be sick and vulnerable from eating that food if it wasn't discovered. And finally, nice outfit. Not just anyone could pull that off, but on you, it's perfect."

"Toxim makes a good point, my friend. The Wyvern won't be able to get too close, obviously, but I can fly to the isle. It will only take me a few hours to get acclimated enough to use it as a stopover for a series of teleportation spells to take us from Farshore to Sasserine. He actually doesn't even need to, as the first time I teleport back he can accompany me and familiarize himself then. Tell me, wouldn't being able to return to civilization in a single day be far preferable to six months or more?"
Keeper of Forbidden Lore |
The next few days are more or less uneventful, nothing happens to the supplies after the last issue and other then a few mishaps, more then should be normal. Most of the crew is claim, Avner is Avner, Driving some of you up the mast and being a royal pain for the most part. He also seems to take far more interest in Fathom now that he has seen her charms.
Anything you wish to do about that or anything you want to do over the next 5 days?
Fathom
Finn Killshrike |
...continuing the conversation for a little longer
"Teleporting, eh?" Finn starts to grin. "How big a creature could you teleport, do you think? Imagine the look on Jerix's face if I came teleporting into the middle of the arena with my foot on the chest of some fierce beast trussed up like a holiday turkey! Ha! I bet he'd fall off his stool. Assuming he'd even recognize me."
Finn is obviously warming to the idea; he's less gloomy and irritable than he has been for a long time.
Karkalla |
Between duties over the next few days Karkalla begins to search the ship for there saboteur or a place he/she could be hiding she also talks to several of the crew mostly to gauge Moral but also at the slight possibility that she will get some useful info from one of them. She makes sure not to mention anything about saboteurs to any of them.

Guard |
Guard wasn't able to add anything useful to the problem at hand, so he kept to the back where he wasn't in the way of things.
If nothing else comes up, he keeps working on his very first own piece of magic shield for 8 hours a day.
simple +1 enchantment, which he should be capable of working with no assistance, if I didn't overlook something
He does his hammering and whatnot during the day, to not steal most of the crews sleep.
During the nights he takes shifts of watching, patrouling the ships decks in no regular pattern, trying to keep as quiet as he can be, hoping to maybe catch some possible sabouteur in action.
He also invites Father Ferres to share his thoughts, maybe even discuss some things regarding faith in his (improvised) workshop.
Toxim ir' Kinain |
Toxim will scribe Detect Poison into his spellbook and use it at least twice a day on their stores.
We need to train some more ballista crew. I just realized most of our crew has perished. Three of the former hobgoblin captives should do.
I'll check on our climbing gear in case others want to climb the cliffs as well.
Keeper
Does Avner have a personal crest (not his family crest) that has shown on his belongings?
The head is made of wood, right?

"Not too big, unfortunately. At least not at first. I estimate that when I can finally master the spell, I might be able to bring two or three other human-sized or smaller beings. Or maybe one creature of a little bigger size, but that's all."
"Fathom" |
Fathom:It is late in the evening the 5th day after the supply issue when Avner comes to you alone by the rail. Most of the ship slumbers and only 3 people stand on the deck. "You seem rather interesting, more so then I first though." He says smiling "I have a bottle of Wine that would be wasted on this lot, care to share it with me?"

"Toxim may well be able to fly, but the rest of us mere mortals are stuck with climbing, so how do you propose getting from the ship to the cliff face with out being dashed to pieces against the cliff face?"
I am using real life knowledge here, a vertical cliff face coming out of the sea even on a remote ocean bound island will generally have undertows, currents and waves in the area immediately adjacent to the base. This gets worse if there is a shelf for the waves to compact against and is less if it truly is a vertical cliff coming from the ocean floor.
"Then again we might get lucky and find a beach, cove or even a sea cave. So I'll keep our options open until then, but please remember as you all kept reminding me, this is Lavina's expedition and she might not appreciate us risking the ship just so we can go thrill seeking." he looks slightly downcast as he finishes that sentence and doesn't meet Toxim's eyes.
Please note how out of character this is for Ardanto who would normally be chomping at the bit to climb a sea cliff and battle monsters.
"I agree that this is the saboteurs best attempt, but I also wonder why they are so ineffective, if they wanted to scupper the mission then I can think of a thousand ways to do that, that would work a lot better than this. It is almost child like in the simplicity sometimes."
Poor Tavey, Ardanto suspects anyone now and he is his new target.
"I do agree, I do look awesome today, but then I do always."
Ardanto doesn't look particularly Awesome at the moment, he looks tired and unshaven.
Ardanto will keep Tavey next to him or gainfully employed for the next few days, he will also start training him how to handle a blade.
