Matt, starting tomorrow, at 12 AM Paris Time (6 AM Montreal time, I believe) I will go play the Kingmaker AP with my buddies.

I will try to post before Monday, but I can't guarantee it.

Between the Kingmaker AP and your excellent campaign with its dedicated and inspired players I am a happy roleplayer :-).

male human cavalier 3 [hp 26/26] [AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex)] [Fort +4, Ref +3, Will +1 ] [Init +2] [Perception +2 ] [CMD 18]

I am a posting machine today !

"I feel the need... the need for speed" (sorry x-).

Lol. Have fun with your game Baster. Night all, I'm off to bed. Check back in 9 or 10 hours.

HP 22/25, AC 20, F +4, Ref +2, W +1, Init +1

While we're on the subject of posting rates, I thought I'd bring up something I've noticed-

My current work schedule allows me to post most readily Monday through Thursday. Unfortunately for me, our awesome GM seems to post mist if his "move the story forward" posts on Friday, so the last few times he's updated I've ended up a little late to the party.

I'm not complaining, I actually love the fact that everyone seems so dedicated to the game. That's rare with a group this size. I'm definitely not used to feel like I'm the one who's too slow.

What I want to know is (from the GM) if that update pattern will continue, and (from the players) if anyone feels like I'm becoming the odd man out by not keeping up as well as I'd like.

male human cavalier 3 [hp 26/26] [AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex)] [Fort +4, Ref +3, Will +1 ] [Init +2] [Perception +2 ] [CMD 18]

I did notice that you were late to the party (as you put it) today, but I don't think that you're in danger of becoming "the odd man out".

Today is the only time I felt you were "late", to tell you the truth, but I suspect that's because I myself had a lot of opportunies to post.

If think that so far your character is served well by your posting patterns.

Jevon is in China, I am in France, and I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that you're somewhere in the US : that all more or less evens out - or it feels so to me anyway.

Male Dwarf Cleric 2, [hp 19][AC 20][CMD 15][Fortitude +5][Reflex +2][Will +7][Initiative +4][Perception +10]

I for one haven't noticed a real problem with anyone lagging behind too much, when other players are less responsive the ones who are posting actively just have more RP time. I guess it could be a problem in combat if the posting frequency is too low, but I haven't noticed you lagging behind particularly.

Actually I simply post at least once a night or day. That's my aim. If I see we're missing a few people to a party I'll skip ahead and let them retroactively make their actions. No one in my mind is the "odd one out". To me, late to the party means we haven't heard from you in 4~5 days for example so everyone's doing fine.

In combat, I'll always post once a day, round per round so if someone misses a post there, no biggie, they've either spent the round analyzing the situation or getting out the way.

Let me know though if you'd prefer I slow the rate to perhaps once every two days. In any case, we're doing fast work. I wake up some mornings with 22 new posts in gameplay!

Urban Barbarian 1/Musket Master 2 (HP 31 | AC 20 | T 14 | FF 16 | CMD 18 | F +7 | R +5 | W +1 | Init +3 | Per +7

Sometimes I feel a little late to the party too, but as Baster mentioned I think it's more of a time-zone thing. I'm just way into this game, so I try to post as much as is prudent when I'm able (which is way more than other people I think). I'm trying not to hog game thread completely, hope I don't come off that way.

M Human 1 Mnk 2Sorc [AC 16/20 CMD17] [F3R6W7] [HP16]

Funny enough I can most easily post mon-thurs and get slowed down fri-sun as well.

Male Dwarf Cleric 2, [hp 19][AC 20][CMD 15][Fortitude +5][Reflex +2][Will +7][Initiative +4][Perception +10]

I just spend too much time on the internet, so in most cases, barring being asleep or finals, I post whenever I think Koldir has something to do that will move the game along. Ditto on the hope I'm not hogging gameplay.

No one's hogging gameplay at all. Some are simply more vociferous than others

hp 26 | AC 17 | T 12 | FF 15 | CMD 16 | F +3 | R +5 | W +3 | Init +4 | Per +4

I'm usually a 1 per day poster too, but with the volume this game has been getting, I sometimes sneak an extra wone in if I can fit the time in. I'm usually slower on the weekends.

Urban Barbarian 1/Musket Master 2 (HP 31 | AC 20 | T 14 | FF 16 | CMD 18 | F +7 | R +5 | W +1 | Init +3 | Per +7

Lol at Endrian's inability to Perceive.

Male Human 3rd Paladin |HP 25/25|AC 15|CMD 16|Fort +7|R: +4|W: +4|Init: +0|Perc: -2|

I like it, it makes it hilarious in situations such as the one we just went through.

I also apologise for the poor sentence structure over the weekend, most of my psoting was done via iPhone and in between formatting and English, I got a little frazzled.

As for posting, I try to post when Endrian is either addressed or when I feel he would have something to say. I hope its not too often.

Aldus, you've missed a bit man. Go back up and read the last two of my important storyline posts.

Unless I'm supposed to look at the spoilers with the peoples names I already read the posts about where we are. We're in the forest and it's dark and storming. We hear something out thataway (at least other people did but enough people talked about it that I'm pretty sure I'd be able to pick up on the fact that something's out there) and we're going to investigate but were you asking whether we're staying with the wagons/going with the party or where we were standing in relation to other people?

He wants to know where you are in relation to the webs and other players. I'd recommend the center of the "square" I'm trying to form around the other casters.

M Human 1 Mnk 2Sorc [AC 16/20 CMD17] [F3R6W7] [HP16]

actually at the time it was whether we were out in the woods with everyone, now its also in relation to the other players if you are with the group.

Jevon, look at the time it was posted. Its rare but in this case there were two spots where his question could apply and the time stamp tells you which it was. The combat start post came after Aldus posted.

I wanted to know who was currently with the main group, in the web wrapped glade and at the wagons. Then, I asked for the first round of combat which general area.

I think the forum dice roller does strange things if you don't post the dice rolls all "at the same time"...

This is what I did:
First, I posted the longsword and the whip attacks and damage rolls, hitting the "preview" button to see if there were some potential critical hits.

Seeing that there was a possible critical hit (yipee !), I typed again the scorpion whip attack and damage rolls, which I tagged under the first batch of rolls.

And then the dice roller produced the same values exactly !

I think that next time I'll post the actual attack roll and the potential critical hit confirmation roll at the same time, in one pass, so as to bypass the strange dice roller artefact.

I hope what I just explained made sense :-/ !

M Human 1 Mnk 2Sorc [AC 16/20 CMD17] [F3R6W7] [HP16]

It is because they probably use one seed for all rolls in the same post and rngs can produce a wonderful number of quick repeats and truthfully it doesn't even need to be the same number generated, it just has be have the same remainder when divided by 20(or whatever size dice you roll).

Matt, can you give me an idea of when I'll get to the fight?

its the immune to weapon damage rolls and poison that gets me, really... really can devastate a party that is low level and unprepared.

M Human 1 Mnk 2Sorc [AC 16/20 CMD17] [F3R6W7] [HP16]

Sorry for jumping the gun I saw Leylyn's post and thought it said round 2.

I haven't heard of swarms being immune to weapon damage before though, I thought they took 1/2 dmg from weapons. Of course this my first pf swarm encounter.

hp 26 | AC 17 | T 12 | FF 15 | CMD 16 | F +3 | R +5 | W +3 | Init +4 | Per +4

Swarms smaller than timy take no damage from weapons. Otherwise I believe its half damage.

Leylyn is correct. But with its health total I doubt it will be a problem. I really thought we had some arcane firepower here though.

hp 26 | AC 17 | T 12 | FF 15 | CMD 16 | F +3 | R +5 | W +3 | Init +4 | Per +4

I'm not to worried. In my RL low magic game we rant into a swarm of centipedes and nearly got annihilated. We used up all of our oil and alchemist fires on a swarm of spiders earlier so we had to fight the swarm of centipedes with torches. Ac 18 and 31 hp. add in only 4 of us and -4 to hit... It was pretty devastating.

Don't worry, this thing has no way near that much health.

Male Dwarf Cleric 2, [hp 19][AC 20][CMD 15][Fortitude +5][Reflex +2][Will +7][Initiative +4][Perception +10]

It's way better than a bat swarm at low levels though. They automatically hit and do 1 point of bleed per round. If you cant make DC 15 heal checks easily and don't have enough heals per day to get everyone you're generally looking at at least one PC bleeding to death :D

Been a bit busy guys. I'll update the second round tomorrow morning but for now, there's only the swarm left really.

Urban Barbarian 1/Musket Master 2 (HP 31 | AC 20 | T 14 | FF 16 | CMD 18 | F +7 | R +5 | W +1 | Init +3 | Per +7

Cool. Don't take our swarm discussion as complaint. At least not from my end. With 9 PCs I feel like you are justified throwing whatever you feel like at us. I also enjoy fights where people go into negatives at least once, makes it feel more dangerous.

Male Dwarf Cleric 2, [hp 19][AC 20][CMD 15][Fortitude +5][Reflex +2][Will +7][Initiative +4][Perception +10]

I like how one person used OOC text we got stuck in it for three more posts :P

And Matt, certainly not complaints! There'd be little point or excitement in a combat during which you only threw easy opponents at us.

HP 22/25, AC 20, F +4, Ref +2, W +1, Init +1

I once threw a stone golem into the middle of an encounter for 2nd level PCs. This is kids stuff. :)

I was planning to post that in the game thread, but decided to post in discussion. I copy-pasted it and forgot to take out the out of character code. 6_9

And back from 24 hours of being away and occupied. I'll post Round 2 Results within the hour.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hurry up and post everybody else so I can :P I think I'm addicted to PBP. My wife started referring to it as Pathfinder crack last night x_x'

Same, I even started a second PbP as an experiment of how much can be done. The other one is 3 GM and 15 players. So yeah...

Urban Barbarian 1/Musket Master 2 (HP 31 | AC 20 | T 14 | FF 16 | CMD 18 | F +7 | R +5 | W +1 | Init +3 | Per +7

I'm currently playing in 5, and am considering trying to get a 6th going. I have a really easy job, so I have way too much time to post. Plus, it makes me write a lot, which is good practice. I feel like if I play in several games for a year or two I'll be ready to write a novel or something.

The writing is definitely such a great thing. Almost like a journal to get you used to writing.

For Clarification...

Web

Net

So, yes it is a ranged attack, however, range increments, soft cover, and shooting into melee would apply.

So...

Yes the web would hit Leylyn's ac, but there could be range penalties, I am not sure how far they are. I was in melee with the swarm when the spider webbed Leylyn according to how Matt posted, which would give it a -4 penalty to hit, and if there are allies between me and the spider, would grant me a cover bonus to AC.

Editing my post in the game play thread in the case that Leylyn is webbed...

M Human 1 Mnk 2Sorc [AC 16/20 CMD17] [F3R6W7] [HP16]

Sounds to me like it would be a ranged touch attack.

The spider throws a web like a net and a net is versus touch(since it doesn't need to penetrate armor).

I went with ranged normal attack and it says it has a 50ft range. You're free to look it up under Giant Spider.

M Human 1 Mnk 2Sorc [AC 16/20 CMD17] [F3R6W7] [HP16]

I am perfectly fine with what ever you want to call it but 50ft range (10ft increment) has nothing to do with AC vs Touch.

Seems to me though that it mentioned ranged as in to say it would provoke an AOO.

Note, this is after looking at giant spider, web, and net.

I see nowhere where it says touch. I made it a ranged attack. Then yes, it would provoke an AoO but seeing as I know it would die in the same round, I felt it needed a dying chance. Which it failed.

Male Dwarf Cleric 2, [hp 19][AC 20][CMD 15][Fortitude +5][Reflex +2][Will +7][Initiative +4][Perception +10]

"When you throw a net, you make a ranged touch attack against your target." But like I said, if it missed, it missed, that's rule 1 of any game with a GM, the book rulings are secondary.

You got me there then my friend, never saw net was ranged touch. So yes, you'd be right in this case. So what really would have happened is that he'd have caused an AoO, and if hit would have died. If not, would have entangled leylyn. I'll leave it for now but if I make small mistakes like this *please* let me know, it helps me a lot and I can correct things. This time I'll let it slide as it is smoother.

male human cavalier 3 [hp 26/26] [AC 17, touch 12, flat-footed 15 (+5 armor, +2 Dex)] [Fort +4, Ref +3, Will +1 ] [Init +2] [Perception +2 ] [CMD 18]

I found that one of the very real benefits of PbP play if that it helps a lot with learning rules fundamentals and minutiae.

I'm not talking about you, by the way, Matt, as you handle things like an experienced Pathfinder GM here :-).

I personnaly have benefited greatly of PbP play rules crunching, to the point I can now envision refeering Pathfinder, a task I found too daunting some months ago.

I've been playing and refeering rpgs since I was 13 (I began with Basic D&D and Keep in the Borderlands, french edition), but D&D 3.x and Pathfinder are honestly rules heavy.

When I began playing in a 3.5/Pathfinder campaign 2 years ago (Curse of the Crimson Throne, which we haven't finished yet) and saw all the rules juggling that our DM had to do, I doubted I could ever master Pathfinder. Well, I have obviously evolved to the next step in my rules-fu ;-).

By the way, "rules heavy" isn't a flaw in my book - it's just a factual remark. I enjoy playing Pathfinder immensely as it is !
