GM

2 rounds of last combat You start your way down the stairs and meet Gnolls coming up. You seem to have indeed stirred the hornets nest as you see more then a dozen in the large room below you.

Init:
Vrealk = 21
Kalden = 21
celena = 19
N'Djamena = 17
Larrs = 16(holding for markhet)
Markhet = 15
Aysh = 11
Gnolls = 4( diamond Gnolls)
Gnolls = 2 (other two groups)

The map

Female Suli Bard 3/ Wizard 2

Ayish whispers something under her breath upon catching sight of what the group is descending into.

"Still, we have the stairs to act as our defense..." She adds finally, though probably more to herself than any one else.

Round1(New):

Ayish again raises her voice to spur her companions on.

If I have it right, Kelden can't see past Celena due to the curvature of the stairwell or is it open for us to see?

Female Gnome Paladin 5

Is the stairwell enclosed or open?

GM

Opps should have made all this clear. Anyone behind N'djamerna is blocked on the side, N'djamerna and lowet have an open view upon the side. Each circle starting past the first on the stair bottom counts as 5' in the air. So the second Gnoll is 5' up,larrs is 15', clenea 20, N'djamerna 25 and so on. Starting with N'djamerna there is no side on the staoir and you may "Jump" if you wish, falling the listed distance. You all have full view of the room starting with him. Kelden , you can kneel and fire, but will suffer a -2 for doing so.

Okay here are our options:

  • I tank up Larrs with barkskin and greater magic fang, and try to get to a point on the stairs where everyone can shoot.
  • Celena and Larrs play leap frog going down the stairs (each taking turns in the front) till we can get a nice spearhead at the bottom of the stairs.
  • Markhet instead uses summon nature's ally to open the battle on a completely different front.
  • A combination of the first three suggestions.

Please feel free to add your thoughts

Female Suli Bard 3/ Wizard 2

Ayish can continue to bolster every one with her Bard abilities and second round summon another Eagle to annoy/attack for a few rounds...

I also just remembered that N'Djamena has call lighting active! So . . . One, Two, Three Roast em! We'll be mop up.

Markhet also has a call lighting prepped if 5 X 3d6 30ft blasts isn't enough

Hehe, time to kind of go all 'Evil Sith' on their furry @$$es! (^_^)

Male Human Cleric 5

Call lightning is actually pretty lame (only one target at a time), and he's used 2 blasts already.

N'Djamena calls another bolt of lightning down on one of the gnolls in the large room (one with a missile weapon) then kneels behind the bannister for cover.

3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 3) = 10, DC 16 Ref for 1/2

Female Gnome Paladin 5

Celena makes her way down and swings at the neares Gnoll

Attack

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21

Damage

1d6 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Female Suli Bard 3/ Wizard 2

If people are moving down, Ayish will follow, though not close enough to block her allies movement, such that it is.

Round2:

Ayish continues to bolster her companions spirits, and 'To hits' and such as well. (^_^)

Markhet will ride down behind Celena and have Larrs hold his standard action. If Celena needs to retreat she can move back into Larrs' square and Markhet will then have Larrs move up into the empty square.

Meanwhile Markhet will throw some flame: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 211d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

aiming for potential archers

I thought I had posted already.

Kelden will bend down and cast Web (Ref dc 17). It's center will be the diamond gnoll in the same column as Celena (the lower left corner it shares with the red square gnoll in the same column as Vrealk).

GM

Vealk,Hunkers down and runs like a shadow down the stair rails, slashing the lead Gnolls with his dagger. Kelden Kneels where he is and puts an arrow though an Archer Gnolls eye. Celena steps down and finished off the Gnoll Vrealk wounded as N'djamera calls his lighting, which wounds one of the arches before he takes cover. Markhet hurls her flames at the lighting singed Gnoll, dropping his as his chest burns. Behind them Ayish lefts her voice in song.

Two of the Gnolls Those with the diamonds Cast some kind of spell and drawl great axes. The two remaining Gnoll archers fire at Markhet and Celena but hit nothing. One steps up and tries to harm celena, but can't land a blow as the rest hual spears. Most hit only stone, one hits Markhet9 hp

Init: Round 2

ROUND2

Ayish moves down a step or two if possible and continues to bolster her companions courage and strengths.

Burn baby burn: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 241d6 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Probably aiming at the gnoll that hit her with a spear

Ok, I'll roll with it
Kelden moves down the steps until he's just in front of N'Djamena, then casts Web (ref dc 17) centered at the square between the two diamond gnolls.

Female Gnome Paladin 5

Celena continues to press the attack

1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

1d6 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Are you still large size Celena? Because if you are your hammer should be doing 1d8 shouldn't it?

If my sense of timing is correct, not quite two minutes have passed sense I cast the spell, leaving 3 minutes on its duration.

Male Human Cleric 5

N'Djamena zaps another archer with lightning.

3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1) = 9

Male Goblin Fighter 1 / Rogue 4

Vrealk attacks the gnoll closest to him with his dagger (std action) then digs his dose of flash powder out of his pack (move action).

attack dagger 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
damage 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

GM

Vrealk stabs the closest gnoll and digs for something as Kelden moves and conjurers a web, trapping many Gnolls. Celna finishes off the Gnoll in front of her, stepping over its dying body and press down the stairs. Markhet, hits another gnoll with her fire, seeming to hurt it greatly as it rolls trying to put out the flame

Ndjamera hits another with lighting as Ayish moves down the steps. One Gnoll breaks free and throws a spear, they all seem to be yelling. Moat are unable to break free of the web and three try and flank and attack Celena, but her amor is just to strong.

The dice gods want the gnolls dead it seems. Most fives I think I have ever rolled at once.

Round3

Seeing her valiant companion Celena surrounded by the furry brutes, Ayish casts 'Summon Monster1' this round, though the haunting echoes of her voice continue to inspire her companions for this round while she summons celestial aid.

So, folks still get their +2 from Ayish bolstering their spirits and Ayish gets to help out a bit more!

(^_^)

Male Goblin Fighter 1 / Rogue 4

Seeing the large group of gnolls "tied up", Vrealk slides his flash powder back in his pouch and goes after the next gnoll down the stairs.

should have been at +14 last time as I counted Ayish's bonus as +1, not +2 attack 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
damage 1d3 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

move action to put powder back in pouch and get his dagger back in off-hand

Male Human Cleric 5

N'Djamena will use his last bolt of lightning on one of the gnolls.

3d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4) = 11

GM

as it has been 2 days, I am taking Markhets actions

Vrealk slashes downward, striking one of the Gnolls as Kellden puts a shot into the Gnoll in front of celena and she finishes it off.N'Djeminas's lighting kills another Gnoll as Markhet burns another Gnoll. Ayish starts to summon something.

Two Gnolls manage to break free of the web as two others take cover at the base of the stairs. Two attack Celena , but still can not get though her armor, one has better luck with Vrealk.

A Great roar can be heard as well as something yells thunderously In Gnoll

Spoiler:

Can we get Larrs some room to go all feline frenzy on them?

Female Suli Bard 3/ Wizard 2

Round4

Ayish's voice resumes its rousing tune to bolster her companions as a summoned Eagle appears and Ayish directs it with a jabbed finger towards the fleeing Gnolls.

Fly! Fly my pretties! MwaHAhahahahahahahaha! (^_^)

So, I'll let the Dm have free reign with the summoned Celestial Eagle.

Male Human Cleric 5

Spells still running: Bless (on party), Bull's Strength (on Larss)

N'Djamena clumsily throws a javelin at one of the gnolls.

GM

Anyone else?

hmmmm, my last post was eaten I think.

Markhet has Larrs climb down the stairs and she throws some more fire:

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 171d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Male Goblin Fighter 1 / Rogue 4

Vrealk lashes out at the gnoll nearest him.

GM

sorry guys , still busier then I thought..sigh

Vrealk kills the nearest Gnoll to him as Kelden moves down and drops another Gnoll, Celena moves off the stairs, killing another Gnoll. N'djamera throws a javin, hurting a Gnoll. Markhet kills the hurt Gnoll as Larrs reaches the bottom of the stairs. Ayish moves down the stairs as her Bird attacks a Gnoll.

Three more Gnolls break free of the web, another Gnoll swings and misses Celena as two trapped Gnolls fire arrows, one hits N'djamera 6hp

Suddenly something flaming comes hurling into the web and it starts to burn

I presume I know of the two gnolls that took cover by the stairs.
If I can get into position to Color Spray (dc 17) them both, I will otherwise I'll jump over the rail and attack the one.

Female Suli Bard 3/ Wizard 2

Round 5

Ayish continues to bolster her friend's actions, even as her summoned Eagle rakes and swirls above its chosen target.

Ayish has her whip and rapier handy for when the time comes that she might add her strength to the combat and not just her voice.

Can the Gnoll who seems to be below Ayish and the stairs be attacked with said whip?

Not sure how well said bird is doing, but it will only be doing it for a round or so...

Larrs goes full attacks on the hapless gnoll next to him:

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 111d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 141d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Markhet flings fire again (whoever looks like they need it): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 141d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Male Human Cleric 5

N'Djamena stands up and rushes down the stairs towards the melee.

Male Goblin Fighter 1 / Rogue 4

With the logjam in front of him, Vrealk decides to leap over the side of the stairs (south side). Assuming he lands OK, he moves to attack the gnoll to the west (on the edge of the web).

acrobatics 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30

GM

Vrelk leaps off the stairs and runs other them to get closer to still living targets as kelden hits the two nearby Gnolls with a spell, both of which crumple to the ground. Celena steps to the side, crushes a Gnolls skull and heals herself. N'djamera rushes down the stairs as Markhet rides Larrs into battle. He hurts one of the Gnolls and Markhet finishes it off with fire, as ayish walks down the stirs , weapons in hand.

The last three Gnolls able to flees, do so into another room as one of the webbed Gnolls breaks free, but gets stuck again as he moves away.
