If Larrs can only carry one, I would suggest Celena. Her stealth skill should be considerably less than Ayish's.

Stealth 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

Female Suli Bard 3/ Wizard 2

Helping Celna onto Larr's back, Ayish simply gets ready to run.

GM

With Celena mounted upon Larrs and the cat moving out of range, while hiding and everyone else invisible or also doing a fine job of staying hide the two mounted Gnolls do not see you as the ride around the building. The Gnolls see to be yelling for anyone on the inside and seem to be mounted on very large Hyneas and armed with bows.

It has taken them 3 rounds to get to the west entry, in that time, moving at stealth speeds, most of you have not gotten very far. If you look at the map below, you guys ,well most of you have only made it to the dried up pool near the building. You are 60' from the Gnolls and about a 100 from the wall. You want to attack, stay put and hope you are not found, try to move under stealth or make a run for it?

The map

Female Suli Bard 3/ Wizard 2

Stealth:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 (Quite willing to accept 'Aid another' as well, thanks).

Getting out of Dodge unseen would seem better than trying to out run two large doggies...:P

I agree. We are out in the open now. This is no time to stop unless they see us and come after us.

Male Human Cleric 5

If everyone else starts running, N'Djamena will run too. Otherwise, he follows everyone else at almost-but-not-quite double move.

Keep with the stealth until they notice us.

GM

Just to speed this up, I am gonna make the stealth rolls. I'll do it here.

Kelden1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Vrealk1d20 + 21 ⇒ (9) + 21 = 30
Larrs1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Markhet1d20 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
N'Djamerna1d20 + 20 - 7 - 5 ⇒ (5) + 20 - 7 - 5 = 13

You try and sneak past the guards and while you may have fooled one a few of you where noticed by the second guard. He urges his mount forward and fires at Kelden, Barely missing.

Vrealk and markhet are not spotted, N'Djamerna is still unseen.On the map, the black box is more or less a ditch, the green things are shrubs you can kinda use as cover.

Init
Kalden = 22
CG 1= 16
Vrealk= 15
celena = 15
Larrs= 12
Aysh = 10
Markhet = 6
N'Djamena=5
CG2= 3

The map

I think Markhet would have been on Larrs. Celena and Markhet can easily fit on the back of Larrs together but Ayish being medium sized would have been near impossible.

At the sound of battle Markhet would turn Larrs around to face the enemy. Larrs will move 40 ft back towards the enemy and then Markhet will lob some fire at the gnolls:

Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 251d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Confirm the critical: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 171d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

We suck at retreating. You guys want to keep tryng or just open up a can of kick-butt?

Female Gnome Paladin 5

Well there mounted and most of us are not so outrunning probably is not an option.

Kelden wrote:

kick-butt, definitely. Vrealk readies an arrow as he remains hidden. waiting for them to get within sneak attack range

Female Suli Bard 3/ Wizard 2

Better to die facing the enemy than not. :)

As the mounted Gnolls close upon herself and her companies, Ayish steels herself and turns to face the threat along side her friends.

So, yeah, getting ready to help with morale and attack at limited range with the whip.

You ingrates. That's the last time I take the trouble to plan our escape.
He prepares to cast Enlarge Person on Celena.

Markhet wrote:

Kelden's plan was for Markhet to flee using Wild Shape. But you know what they say about best-laid plans...

N'Djamena invisibly casts Bless.

I don't know if she has another use of wild shape today though.

GM

sorry guys, holidays and all. Humm well as for retreating right now it is only the two mounted Gnolls, if you take them out fast you most likely can get away.

The first Gnoll rides forward and lets loose an arrow that misses Kelden by many yards.

Ok, what ranged attack is Markhet using?, she would be at lest 60' away from the Gnoll now that it has moved. Ayish, actions?

Init round 1
Kalden = 22{held]
CG 1= 16 {moved}
Vrealk= 15[Readied}
celena = 15
Larrs= 12
Aysh = 10
Markhet = 6
N'Djamena=5

Round 2
Kalden = 22[may move]
CG 1= 16
Vrealk= 15[May move}
celena = 15
Larrs= 12
Aysh = 10
Markhet = 6
N'Djamena=5
CG2= 3

The map

I'll cast it on her once she is in range.

If she is not in range by Kelden's turn 2 action, he will cast it on himself and ready his axe.

Female Gnome Paladin 5

Being currently mounted on Larrs Celena has no choice but to hold on for the time being (Delaying till After Larrs gets her in range of something)

GM

in that case, an update

Larrs move near Kelden and he casts bull strength upon Celena. N'djameran blesses the group and the last Gnools moves forward and fires, but also misses.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Round 2

The first Gnolls, mont moves and he fires, nailing Kelden with an arrow 14 hp

Will do Markhets attack once I know the spell used so I can see if it hit

Round 2

CG 1= 16[went]
Vrealk= 15[May move}
celena = 15
Larrs= 12
Kalden = 11
Aysh = 10
Markhet = 6
N'Djamena=5
CG2= 3

The map

The spell was Enlarge Person not Bull's Strength.

AC 21, FF 19, T 12; HP 41/41
Invisibility (on N'Djamena)
Enlarge Peson (on Celena)
Shield

Kelden casts Shield on turn 2.

GM

Opps,that may have amusing side effects :)

Keeper of Forbidden Lore wrote:

Produce flame, range 120 ft, no range increment.

Markhet cast it just before the end of the last fight and it lasts for 5 minutes (minus one minute for every attack she makes with it. She only attacked once thus far, so she should have around 4 minutes or so left on it).

Male Goblin Fighter 1 / Rogue 4

Vrealk will take a full move, trying to remain hidden in the sand (can move at full without penalty to stealth). He will get within range of the closest gnoll so that he make a shot from his bow next round.

stealth 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (2) + 21 = 23

Just to give everyone a 'head's up' - my December is going to be extremely hectic. I will be in China from December 3-7; then in Italy from December 10-15. Finally, we leave for vacation (Florida) on the 17th and will be back on January 3rd. From past experience, I will likely have limited internet while in China and Italy, and posting may be spotty while in Florida. I will update as often as I can, but if anything gets held up while waiting for me, feel free to DMPC Vrealk as needed.

Male Human Cleric 5

N'Djamena can't quite make it to Kelden to heal him, so he moves up to Celena and casts Guidance on her.

GM

Mahket burns the Gnoll, Kelden casts a spell upon himself and Vrealk sneaks forward.Needing actions form celena, who is now human sized,Ayish and Markhet

Round 2

Has Larrs moved Celena into striking range of the Gnoll's?

GM

Now you are human sized, and the nearest Gnoll and mount is 40' away . which is within charging range. I am assuming you dismounted last round after you got bigger.

On round two Markhet will throw more fire: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 221d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Then she'll have Larrs charge in: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 81d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Female Gnome Paladin 5

Celena charges and attacks

Attack warhammer
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29

Damage

1d8 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Don't forget the +1 bonus for Bless, y'all!

N'Djamena wrote:

Forgot about it :) but with the ranged touch attack the +1 won't matter, and it looks like even with a +2 for a charge (which is unlikely because of the ditch and other obstacles) the additional +1 isn't likely to make the lion's attack hit.

GM

sorry guys been having some RL issues and some connection issues(which sadly is not all that new)

Celena charges the Gnoll, seeming to put him down and out as Larrs charges his mount. The lion is unable to hit but Markhet does manage to burn the animal.

The other Mounted Gnoll seeing himself out numbered fires an arrow, missing all targets and spurs his mount away. The now hurt and unmounted hyena flees as well.

You guys can run or chase after the other Gnoll, or you can loot the downed Gnoll or whatever ya want to do.

Female Suli Bard 3/ Wizard 2

Loot and scoot?

Agreed, loot and scoot.
Once we get away a bit, Kelden will use Rope Trick, which I hope will throw them off our trail.

Markhet lobs some fire at the fleeing gnoll
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 201d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

GM

Markhet hits the retreating Gnoll with fire and it lets out a scream. The dead Gnolls bow, scimitar and armor all seem of fine quality, but you will not have time to strip the armor, unless you take the body with you.

Male Human Cleric 5

N'Djamena is willing to take the dead body with him; the floating gnoll will look all spooky and whatnot!

GM

You easily manage to escape then as the only Gnoll so far that can chase you does not like fire it seems.

where to? whats the plan?

Watch the place for another couple of days then go back from the other side?

Female Suli Bard 3/ Wizard 2

At some time when we've determined when the Gnolls/Guards are at their most lax? *Bows*

*Sings* "But mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noon-day sun!" (^_^)

Male Human Cleric 5

Also, N'Djamena suggests finding a defensible spot from where they can pick off any gnoll scouts that approach.

GM

You watch the comings and going over the next few days. You do notice more Gnolls coming in but very few leaving. The dead Gnoll seems to have been replaced the next day and so two mounted Gnolls still seem to patrol the grounds.

"Markhet wonders if the gnolls are multiplying?" the gnome muses, "Maybe gnolls are grown in underground vats? Markhet always assumed they were natural beasties like dogs or possums but perhaps they are more like smelly old trolls or slugs?"

Female Gnome Paladin 5

"More likely they are reinforcing whatever is inside in case we try to attack again."

"Well as long as they're not growing new ones from the chopped up bits of the old ones."

Female Gnome Paladin 5

"You have a...................Very vivid Imagination at times dont you?"

"Thank you!" Markhet says with a great smile as she takes Celena's comments as a compliment, "This one does her best!"

Female Gnome Paladin 5

"Anyway this creates a problem. I was hoping they would just reinforce the Gate we attacked so we could just find another way in but it looks like they may have increased the guard for the entire place."
