Seeker's 5e Reign of Winter (Inactive)

Game Master seekerofshadowlight

It has been a century since the immortal witch Baba Yaga last visited the world, and the hour draws nigh for her return. But when she fails to appear in the frozen realm of Irrisen to usher in its newest ruler, pockets of winter begin to grow throughout the Inner Sea region. After 1,400 years of perpetual winter, the icy curse of Irrisen is spreading! What links do these strange blizzards and swaths of wintry landscapes have with Irrisen, and is there any truth to the growing rumors that the Witch Queen Elvanna has taken full control of the realm? Can her plans for the Inner Sea be thwarted, or will the Reign of Winter engulf the world?

Barl spots one of the tiny fey behind a breach but nails it with an cold iron arrow and it lets out a small, child-like scream. Tursk also spots the same one as Barl and tries to light it up with a spell, small flames dance across its form and its cries of agony intensify. Helen also find and lights another up with fire, its screams joins the other as her flames catch it.

Jack spots the one already hurt by Barl and Tursk and his arrow drives though the tiny torso, pinning it unmoving to a tree. Kat, spots another but is unable to hit the flying target as vic lets loss an arrow, but is unable to connect.

With one of their number dead, and another clearly heavily injuries the last two fey vanish like a morning mist.

You may choose to look for them or whatever you wish to do at this time. HP wise, Helen and jack have 6 HP, Kat and Barl have 8. Everyone else has max HP

GM

If you can not see a target, you can't attack it at all in 5e. Maybe if you had an AOE you might catch it, but if you can not see a target, you have no hope of hitting it at all given it is a 1' tall critter that can be anywhere at all in that rather large space.

GM

Tursk spots an animal trail leading away from the main path. Although you will not be able to hide your tracks, you can wonder off the main trail and find a defensible spot to rest up for a small bit.

GM

You rest for a while under a grove of trees , aways from the trail. After everyone has caught their breaths and applied some bandages as needed, you get back under way. You make another few miles headways though the deep snow and crushing deep winter cold that now grips the land. In time the trail comes to a river.

The River seems to be thirty or forty feet across and frozen it seems. You can see two thick poles on either side of the river and a rope connecting them and a barge on the other shore. Not that you will need a barge if the river is as froze as this weather says it should be.

However, none of that is what is truly odd. Thirty feet from you and a good twenty from the river stands a snowman in the middle of the trail, with a sign on its chest. Its built of three snowballs and is almost whimsical with a scarf and stones for eyes and a smiling mouth of river rock. The crude wooden signs reads "Trespassers Turn Back." in Taldan

"You're probably right, Katarina," Helen says. Thinking a moment, she then adds, "Let's give this a try," and approaches the snowman before casting a spell.

Prestidigitation can warm 1 cubic foot of non-living material for an hour. So I'm casting it on the snowman's head as a sort of "test": if the snowman is NOT alive, then his head is now reduced to warm water. Failure to melt would most likely mean I ran afoul of the "non-living" restriction, which itself would be useful information that we'd probably want to act on.

GM

Helen casts a spell upon the snowman, its head starts to melt, not very fast, but it is slowly melting. Seeming to be a non-threat you move closer to the ice. The River itself seems froze enough, as clearly the ones you chase walked across it. It is not all smooth, but where the tides froze slower you have shards of ice, bumps and little swirls of thine ice hanging above thicker ice. Just the kind of thing one sees when a river freezes in deep winter.

Trusk thinks the river looks fine and Vic is pretty sure he spots an path though, in what seems to be thick and stable ice. Behind you the snowman remains silent and its head still drips. You make your way onto the ice, it seems nice and stable, if slick and hard to walk on, making your progress slow( Half move). You move in a row, Vic and Barl to the front, followed by Kat and Helen with Jack and Tursk bring up the rear.

Near the middle of the forty foot wide river, An unnatural and thick fog sets in,blinding you to all around you.
