Jorizer |
"Hmph. Took time. You lead. Or you follow? We need leader. Not many leaders. You shaman? Shaman make leader sometimes."
Jorizer gives the priest a strong look. You can see his thick brow scrunched up as he sizes up the priest judging his worth.
Browman |
While the half-orc continues pushing for a decision on a squad leader, the group departs the castle and begins heading in the direction the smoke was sighted in.

As you are crossing a small creek about 4 hours into your trip you all notice several footprints in the mud on the far side of the creek.
Jake Hobbes |
"The right leader will emerge when it's time. We all know what role we play here, and mine's in front with all of you behind my shield."
Jake checks the footprints.
Survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Then looking at Jorizer,
"What's your assessment of these tracks?"
While traveling Jake carries his ranseur, unless otherwise noted. I'll keep his AC updated accordingly.
Jorizer |
Since crossing the creek Jorizer can be heard repeating something under his breath. His usual gutteral tone replaced by a softer smoother sound. Almost as if he were singing.
Watching him his eyes stare straight ahead never coming into contact with the water at his feet. The scene is broken as soon as he catches sight of the footprints in the mud.
"Stop!" he hisses but the brawny looking human already has moved over to the tracks. "Back. Three strides. Way you come. Into water."
Jorizer moves to the tracks stepping right onto the brawny human's path. "In case enemy see your foot. Think one. Not two."
Bending down carefully he looks at footprints.
Tracking: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Add +2 if they are orc tracks (favoured enemy)

They are definitely orc tracks, at least 3 sets. The orcs were moving swiftly but not running. They appear to be following the creek SE.
Brother Davco |
"Thank you Jorizer but in this type of operation I am not qualified to lead. My choice would be you since you know Orcs better than the anyone here."
Brother Davco follows the others along the trail. He has decided that if everyone else is looking forward he will watch the rear.
At the creek he retreats back the way they have come 10 feet and watchs the trail.
Ragrimm Thunderhand |
Ragrimm, who had been mostly silent throughout the trip, said to Jorizer "Aye, Brother Davco is right, you are the most qualified to lead us." He took a pause and looked at Jorizer, "And do not feel that I judge you because of your orc blood lad, I too am unlike my kin, Watch."
Ragrimm clenched his hand into a fist and muttered something incomprehensible in Druidic and almost instantly his fist became shrouded in water vapour as if a small cloud had surrounded it. Small lightning sparks and hailstones came out of the cloud before Ragrimm snapped his fingers and it all dissipated. Ragrimm proudly grunted and started to walk again.
Jake Hobbes |
Jake looks at Jorizer and pauses before carefully standing and retracing his steps into the creek.
"What do you think? A scouting party? If they're continuing South, they might be trying to hit either the southern wall or the Eastern wall to catch us off guard. Following these tracks might give us some insight of their intentions."
Jorizer |
"Three. Orcs. Fresh. Follow water along edge. Half day ahead. Traveling in sun. No fear. Not thinking we travel same path. If we move quick could catch enemy. Or we follow not to catch. Follow they take to camp."
Jorizer stands up and looks at you for suggestions.
Twiks |
Twiks watches as Ragrimm make his display of power. Then with out saying anything to the others he removed his hat spins it on one finger as he mutters a word in gnome
prestidigitation
then smiling to him self he places his now dark green hat back on his head.
Castor DuChamp |
"I'm all happy with having our mean green fellow out in the front. Let's me shank the bastards in the kidneys. Do orcs have kidneys? Do they taste nice?", grins Castor, looking at Jorizer. "Let's keep this simple, leaderwise, don't want to get bogged down with ranks and rubbish like that. Leaders come and go, but friendships last forever. Ish. Also, I like small animals and walks on the beach and I love every single creature in the world with my giant heart. And that was definitely not sarcasm."
Jorizer |
Taking the cue Jorizer leads the group down the creek. "Keep to water. Me lead. Thirty strides. If enemy see me. They gut me second. Question me first. See you gut you first. Question you second. Now go." Jorizer takes off keeping his tracks hidden by creek's water. Occasionally you spot him looking back but he makes no attempt to slow down other than to make sure he is on the orc's trail.
Will follow trail until I think the orcs are near by.
Jorizer |
Jorizer stops and waves the others in. "Trail through woods. Dark comes soon. Enemy see light and dark. Dwarf and me see light and dark. We move. Enemy have strength. We must move faster. We need plan."
Looking at the others he waits for someone to talk.
Brother Davco |
"How far away do you think they are? Did we gain any ground on them during the day?
Brother Davco knows that he does not have the skills to walk through the woods at night.
"I think we should stop for the night and pick up the trail in the morning. The thought of running into them at night scares me. If a fight breaks out who knows how many others it will alert.'
Jake Hobbes |
Speaking to the group, but focusing mostly on Jorizer:
"If they're close, I say we lure them to us. I have an everburning torch. I throw it on the ground and Jorizer and I will spar, creating battle sounds. The rest of you hide in the shadows of the trees and wait to ambush. They'll see the half-orc fighting a human and they'll either watch or come to Jorizer's aid. Then we turn on them. The torch will provide light for the gnome and us humans, as well as make it easier for the orcs to find us."
Jake looks to the others for input . . .
Jake Hobbes |
Jake thinks on Brother Davco's words for a moment then replies,
"Our job is to find out what they're up to. Setting up camp could be setting us up to be ambushed. If we're going to end up in a fight, I'd rather it be on our terms rather than theirs. Let us do the ambushing. If we capture one, we can question him. If we want to follow them to where they're going to camp, we can, but that is risky as well as they can see in the dark, and this group, minus the half-orc and the dwarf, need light which will also lead to a possible ambush. I'd like to hear what the others think, as well as what our leader thinks on the matter."
He breaks eye contact with Davco and stares off into the direction of the tracks . . .
All this guy wants to do is run. Wasn't even prepared to begin with. Though we need someone to let us know when we're being too aggressive, we also weren't chosen because we're timid. I know I need to be put in check sometimes, and maybe I'm just itching for a fight, but staying put just isn't in my nature.
Castor DuChamp |
Turning to Jorizer, Castor says, "Glorious leader, I leave my life in your capable and green hands. If you think about where to put me, I can move quick, stealthy and on any terrain necessary. When in combat, as I said before, kidneys. Could also probably take a couple of hits for you, but I'd really rather not."
Twiks |
we where sent to observe the orcs not engage them. Best we stay a secret as long as we can. Inviting a fight is not good, we don't know many more are here that where more carful about leaving tracks
Jorizer |
Jorizer gritted his jagged teeth. The sun would fall soon leaving the humans and the fey folk in a bad place. He looked around from face to face. Decision time.
"Too open here. Enemy go in here. Enemy come out here. Make us weak to fight here. Fey folk right. No eyes see enemy. Could be three. Could be three hundred. Brawny man right we go in.",pausing he looks at Jake before continuing. "We go to be eyes. Not fist. Warleader tell us be fist if we have to. We all go. When we close we hear enemy. When we close me and talking man go closer. Talking man talk like snake. So must move like snake too. That mean dwarf be eyes when me and snake man see enemy camp. Good plan."
Eric Sklavos |
As Jake straps his ranseur to his back and draws his sword and shield. In his shield hand he puts his everburning torch with a belt pouch hanging loosely covering the light.
"It's a good plan. I'll watch the back of the group. If we get hit from behind better me than our healer. Plus my armor makes a bit of noise. If you have a different plan for me, let me know now."
Stealth: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 - 4 = 13

Ragrimm draws his hammer and shield, and says "If any of them need to be taken down nonlethaly for questioning then I'll cover that. My storm magic can be used to subdue as well as kill."
stealth: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (15) - 3 = 12
Castor DuChamp |
"Talking man? Not being called that usually, but might as well. On you go then. Just try focusing on being not so green, might mistake you in the dark. Silly human eyes and all." Castor grins, holds his longspear next to the ground and follows Jorizer from a close distance.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 - 2 = 11
Don't worry about it, I can only post twice a day as well, so I'm trying to get as much as I can. Also, edited the roll to account for the Chain Shirt.
Browman |
The party is just getting into position in the woods, the leading members able to see 4 orcs setting up a camp only one really standing guard. Then the priest stepped on a dry twig that snapped very loudly.
Only the Party and Orc 3 can act the first round

How are you getting a +6 to damage with a thrown weapon and a strength of 18? That should be a +4 unless I am missing something
The alert orc collapses with a spear embedded in his chest.
Castor DuChamp |
It's technically a two-handed weapon, but I'll take your ruling on it. Though I do believe that two-handed weapon throwing was a full-round action, so unless you decide that it's been in Castor's arms all along, and not the longspear I said I had, it's 18, rather than 20.

A spear should be a one handed weapon when thrown, and be a standard action like any other one handed thrown weapon. I don't even know how you could effectively throw a spear with 2 hands. In this case it doesn't matter since the orc is dead either way.
Castor DuChamp |
Yeah, it makes sense to me, and I can't imagine it either. I could see a javelin toss, olympic games style, be a two-handed attack, since you need the other arm as well, and you can't use a possible shield with that... I'm bogging it down with actual world things, which obviously don't apply for Pathfinder. Happy about it.

Orc 3 was already dead, I will assume you shot at the next closest target Orc 2. The arrow slams into the orc, but it is still standing.
Brother Davco |
Brother Davco freezes at the sound of the twig snapping. With everything else so quiet it sounded like thunder. Suddenly he spots firelight through the trees and movement ahead.
I wonder if all battles start like this?
He decides to move forward with sword and shield ready.
Double move to K13
Jorizer |
Hearing the snap of the branch he knows that they have lost their opportunity to surprise the enemy. He moves up quickly ahead not wanting to lose anymore of this opportunity and takes out his short bow.
