Fluuk |
Fluuk looks at Gemdar skeptically. "Why would they call it pudding if you can't eat it?" Disappointed, Fluuk ponders. "Well maybe we can trick it somehow, it can't be very smart. Like you said, can we feed it? Can we make it into a pet? A pet pudding would be sooo cool, all the other goblins would marvel! We could feed it all the garbage!" Fluuk's mind races, and he loses focus entirely on the gravity of the situation as his obsession with the pudding grows... maybe he could chop a small piece off....put it in a jar...
The Mighty Wup |
"We can FIGHT IT!" Wup declares with enthusiasm. "You say no sharp pointies? What about little rocks?"
Wup pulls out his sling and the collection of pebbles he has gathered. "Stand waaayy back and hit it with little rocks! And run if it gets too close. Or throw big rocks if you have no little rocks. Also, Wup has a big hammer." He pats the big hammer strapped to his back. "....but Wup doesn't want to get too close..."
The Mighty Wup |
Wuppy squints thoughtfully. "Wuppy has some of those too. Acids AND fires. Okay. Someone who has nothing, you take my sling. And there are twenty rocks to throw from the sling. I will throw my acids and my fires. And Tabaac says it's slow, so you should always keep moving to stay back from it even if that means you can't throw! Everyone good?"
GM: Using his string, could Wuppy tie his bottles of acid (4) together into one big mess and sort of swing that around his head and let it go at the black pudding?
Tabaaac |
Ok sounds good Wup! We all hit together. Tabaaac takes out one of his fires and gets ready to throw it at the same time Wup throws his acid bola and everybody else takes a shot as well with stones or splash weapons.
Not sure about splash weapons anymore, what's the range on them? Is it just BAB+Dex for Attack roll?
Fluuk |
Fluuk loosens up his throwing arm by whipping it around rapidly and selecting several nice stones. Whispering softly, "Sorry delicious pudding...you didn't mean to hurt anyone."
Gemdar |
Gemdar stand 15' from the pudding and prepares to light him up. "just for you Fluuk I will brulee the pudding!"
As he says that a sheet of fire comes from his hands.
Burning Hands Damage DC 14 Reflex: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
Fluuk |
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
not sure if there is a minus for improvised weapon or not. Seems like a miss in any event.
Damage?: 1d4 ⇒ 3
The Mighty Wup |
Wuppy is busy knotting his flasks together and looks up only when he realizes that everyone is awfully close to the tasty pudding, and not standing way back to throw things like he had thought. He hurriedly ties the last knot on his flasks, races to where he has a good spot to throw from, and hurls them!
Ideally I would throw from a position where I have less people in the way; if he can move to E-12 before throwing, he will.
Attack, vs touch AC, throwing into melee?: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 - 4 = 3
You said in the discussion thread that four flasks would deal double damage-- not sure if that meant "double the normal damage of one flask" or double the normal damage of four flasks". If the latter is correct:
Fire damage: 8d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 2, 4, 2, 3, 5) = 26
If only 2d6 damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10

Day 2, Tuesday, turn 91
On the count of five, um wait, no, three, yeah three, the goblins unleash a coordinated attack toward the statue.
Reflex Save?: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (1) - 5 = -4
Fire, acid, and rocks slam into the statue. The black coating sizzles, and then slowly oozes off the statue forming a puddle on the floor and begins coming toward you!
Round 1, begins!
Tabaaac |
Back away, throw together! Tabaaac takes out his last alchem fire as he backs away as far as he can before throwing it
throw alchem fire on touch, two range increment away: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 4 = 91d6 ⇒ 6
Terquem |
Day 2, Tuesday, turn 91
round 1…
As the flaming, thick black goo oozes up the ramp toward the heroes they launch another coordinated barrage
Reflex Save, DC 15: 1d20 - 5 ⇒ (11) - 5 = 6
The pudding continues to burn as it advances.
Fire Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Thinking they have easily defeated the slow moving pudding the party suddenly hears Penny screams from behind them
Gobzilla |
As the pudding draws closer, Gobzilla throws a rock as well.
Rock Toss: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 - 4 = 13
1d4 ⇒ 2
The rock toss would use my Dex mod, right? That's what I made my roll with. And there's a -4 penalty for improvised weapons, yes? I also included that.
Tabaaac |
Ahh, it's not dying!
Tabaaac switches to his acid flasks and throws again before backing up 5 feet.
Throw two range increment: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 4 = 191d6 ⇒ 1
I think oozes are immune to crits? If not
Critconfirm and damage: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 3 - 4 = 81d6 ⇒ 3
The Mighty Wup |
@ Gobzilla: yeah, any ranged attack should use your dex, but you also get a flat +1 to attacks for being small, in Pathfinder.
Wuppy throws a panicked look over his shoulder at Penny's yell, but backs up like everyone else and hurls an acid flask.
Throw: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Acid damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Fluuk |
Fluuk and Klobber move to avoid the pudding, and throw another rock.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
extra crit damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Day 2, Tuesday, turn 91
round 2…
The black amorphous blob continues to slither toward the group as they all fall back into the entrance chamber. Once the goblins are there they realize there is nowhere else to run and no “puzzles” to open the doors.
Gobzilla throws a rock, followed by Tabaaac adding another flask of acid to the flaming ooze and then another flask thrown by Wup, and finally Fluuk adding one more rock’s damage to the assault, but the thing keeps coming!
Round 3 starts now – the Black Pudding is at the opening to the large chamber where you entered the dungeon. I can place you anywhere in this chamber where you would like to be, and will update the map tonight. After your round 3 attacks, if the ooze is still, well, oozing, it will move into the chamber and attack somebody!
Gemdar?
Tabaaac |
Tabaaac will be right at the back next to Penny.
Aahh, it can't surround us, so we might as well shoot at it! Tabaaac yells and then pauses impressed by his brilliance That's tactics
He raises his musket and fires.
Musket fire: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 171d12 ⇒ 11
Terquem |
Day 2, Tuesday, turn 91
Goblins go first
Wup, Gobzilla, and Fluuk can still take round 2 actions
Round 3...
The sound of Tabaaac's shot echoes down the tunnel as the bullet passes through the pudding, and for a moment the thing appears to separate into two halves, but then flows back together as it moves forward into the chamber
So Tabaaac is a bit on the lucky side as the pudding cannot divide into two halves with less than 10 hp each, and the current hp total won't allow the separation, but I am also a bit puzzled by damage type immunities, as the bullet does p/b damage and the pudding is immune to p/s damage, so just because I am grumpy today, I am ruling that the pudding is immune to bullets!
Flowing into the center of the room, the pudding lashes out!
Who does it attack?: 1d7 ⇒ 7
A ribbon of ooze flies out and attacks Penny!
Melee Slam, vs AC 12: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Acid Slam Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 2 = 8
Penny is slammed up against the wall, and falls to the floor unconscious.
Pudding – takes 44 damage
Young Black Pudding, Large Ooze | AC 3 | HP 55 | Fort +5, Ref -5, Will -2 | reach 10 feet, slam +4 d6+2 plus d6 acid, corrosion | CMB +12, CMD 17, 27 vs bull rush, can’t be tripped
Gobzilla |
Round 2:
"Rawr! Throw more rocks!"
Gobzilla once again lands another good toss before retreating away from the pudding. He makes sure to bring Gaia along as well.
Rock Toss: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 5 - 4 = 18
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Round 3:
"Rawr! No! Penny!" Gobzilla cries out as the Pie Maker hits the ground.
Careful to avoid getting within the Pudding's reach, the Goblin Druid scurries over to the fallen human and casts one of his Cure Light Wounds on her.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Since I'm not sure where he is right now on the map, Gobzilla moves in such a way to avoid an AoO and the casts CLW on Penny.
Gemdar |
FYI
From Equipment page:
Type: Weapons are classified according to the type of damage they deal: B for bludgeoning, P for piercing, or S for slashing. Some monsters may be resistant or immune to attacks from certain types of weapons.
Some weapons deal damage of multiple types. If a weapon causes two types of damage, the type it deals is not half one type and half another; all damage caused is of both types. Therefore, a creature would have to be immune to both types of damage to ignore any of the damage caused by such a weapon.
The Mighty Wup |
When Penny falls, Wuppy lets out a horrified shriek and races forward with his hammer, all idea of staying back and tossing rocks from a safe distance forgotten.
"We're supposed to keep her SAFE!" he shouts, hefting his big hammer in a two-handed arc over his head down onto the pudding.
Attack, power attack: 1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (9) + 6 - 1 = 14
Damage: 1d12 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 3 = 11
Fluuk |
Fluuk maintains his assault, as pieces of pudding splat and spatter from the group's onslaught.
Round 2 rock:
Attack roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Round 3 rock:
Attack roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Gemdar |
The only thing I can think of for the grumpy DM is beer. And plenty of it.
Gemdar's next action is to attack (wether that is round 3 or 4 action I am not sure)
"Squish IT!"Gemdar yells and pulls out his meat tenderizer and attacks the pudding.
Meat Tenderizer Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Day 2, Tuesday, turn 91
Round 3…end
After throwing another rock at the goo, Gobzilla races to Penny’s side, and through the quick application of a healing chant, he revives her and her eyes pop open with vigor
The Mighty Wup drops all other pretense and charges the goo slamming his hammer down hard on the thick black acidic mass, just as Fluuk throws a rock with his left hand followed by another with his right and Gemdar wades into the battle with his tenderizer. The pummeling assault of weapons and rocks is too much for the brainless goo, and it perishes.
Immediately the Goblins that attacked with weapons, Wup and Gemdar, realize the acidic nature of the beast might cause damage to their weapons!
Gendar and Wup will need to make Reflex Saves, the DC is 21, and if they succeed they shake off the goo from the weapons before the acid can damage them, otherwise, each weapon takes 2d6 acid damage, and I think we’ll treat them as “Damaged.” The Goo is dead, the battle is over,
The Mighty Wup |
"Wup's hammer's all covered with icky-gross slime!," Wuppy cries in dismay, shaking the goo off his hammer.
"But Wuppy is fast! He'll remove it in time!
"And if he does not his hammer will hurt
"And Wuppy will then be very dis-conc-cert.... ed."
Say Your Right Words, Save 1: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Say Your Right Words, Save 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
The last of the goo plops off. Wuppy cheers and brandishes his intact hammer.
"--is the human girl okay?"
Gobzilla |
"Rawr! Penny's okay. Gobzilla healed her," the dragon-suited Goblin asserts as he helps the Baker of Pies stand. He glances over to the remains of the pudding and asks, "Rawr! Is it safe to cross?"
Fluuk |
Fluuk approaches the pudding slowly and cautiously. He pokes it with a stick curiously, making sure it is not moving. He pulls back the corroded stick, "Eek." Getting close without touching, he uses his super smell to sniff the pudding. "Doesn't smell like pudding at all. In fact it doesn't smell the least bit tasty." Slicing a little piece off with a sharpened stone, Fluuk secures it away in a small pottery vial. He adjusts his hood hat, and prepares for the next challenge. "Great job brothers and sisters!"
Terquem |
Day 2, Tuesday, turn 91
Nicely played Wup! Glad to see someone has remembered those pesky house rules
The fire slowly dies, where pieces of the goo are still on fire anyway, and as time passes the pudding loses its acidic nature.
You can maneuver passed, and around the pudding without risking damage to your boots.
The "cooked" pudding is tangy, a bit sweet, and can be collected into a jar. Each of you can collect, if you have a jar, enough pudding to count as half a days rations. If you eat the pudding, roll a Fortitude Save, the DC is 10, if you fail, you are mildly flatulent for the next six hours, which adds a -5 modifier to any stealth roll you try to make
Are you ready to move on?
Penny smiles her biggest smile for Gobzilla and hugs him tightly around the head, telling him
Tabaaac |
Relieved at Penny's recovery Tabaaac says Are you ok to go deeper into this place? And gets ready to move into the odd statue room from whence the pudding came.
Perception in statue room: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
We have two keys,
one more makes three...
but all I see is ceiling and floor
where oh where are the three doors? he mutters to himself.
The Mighty Wup |
Wuppy looks closely at Penny. "Human girl is alright?"
He tries to collect some of the pudding, but it doesn't work well with a butterfly net. Giving up, he moves after Tabaaac into the place where the pudding used to be. He looks at where the 'statue' stood.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Fluuk |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
When no one is looking Fluuk grabs a huge handful of the pudding and stuffs it in his mouth. "SOOOOOO GOOOOOOD"
Fartitude save DC 10: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
