“The thunder is the waterfall, can you hear the laughter?

Climb down to canyon side and explore the here and after

Take the girl and keep her safe, she bakes the treats so fine

Find the words to smite her foes, and let her village shine

Then take the, wait, um, no, it was supposed to start with I wish,

Let me start over” – The Great Chant of Heroes as spoken by Good Chief Darien, moments before the pie was served

The door to the south is old, and appears to be dried and cracking in places, but it opens easily with a pull on the metal handle.

There is a chamber just beyond the door. The room appears to have some sort of well built into the floor. A short, stonework rectangle rises some three feet from the floor, and is about ten feet wide and fifteen feet long. There are two small alcoves in the south wall one to each side of the far end of this short stone wall, and four slender stone columns spaced evenly in the corners of the room.

There is a hall, in the right, leading away from this room.

Peering over the edge of this stonework you see a hole in the floor stretching down into darkness.

I realize the map shows “blue” water in this pool, but for now just imagine that it is empty for as far down as you can see

When Tabaaac gets close to the hallway on the right, he hears an unfamiliar sound

When he peers around the corner, he sees another wooden door, and the sound is coming from something on the other side.

A once over of this door convinces Tabaaac it is safe to open, and he cautiously places a hand on the metal handle. The handle is warm, but not uncomfortable to the touch.

He tries to open the door as quietly as he can, but the ancient hinges and dried wood creek with a low moan. When he has the door open just far enough to look beyond it, he sees something he has never imagined he would ever see in his lifetime.

Tabaaac:
This is a huge chamber, with an elevated platform near the door, and another along the far wall. There are steps that descend to the central floor and thick columns in each corner supporting a ceiling high overhead. Lying in a coiled position in the center of the floor is a huge, monstrous beast that appears to be part Dragon, and part machine. Its flesh is rotting and you can see through into the internal machine parts of this horrific beast. The internal machine of this beast hums with a fast rhythm,

*TUMPA TUMPA TUMPA TUMPA*

And the glow of fire burning within it throws light into the room and stark shadows against the wall. It looks as if this creature has three different heads. You can see one of its massive heads, the closest one to the steps going down to the floor near the door, and it is a broad, black colored head, with a short mouth filled with spindly teeth. This head lies slightly askew, and its eyes are closed. A second head can almost be made out, just behind and to the right of the first head, and it looks skeletal, long, and slender, while a third head lies on the back of the beast, its long neck curled around in a one hundred eighty degree turn. This third head is made of metal, wood, and glass. The neck is articulated and made up of different lengths of pistons and rods. The eyes of the mechanical head have no eye lids that can be seen, and the massive eyes are red crystals, but they appear to be dull and lifeless.

You have no idea what this thing is, but from the look of it, it is not something you would want to disturb.

male

As Gobzilla, Fluuk, Gemdar and Tabaaac backtrack away from the room with the deep, empty well, they file into the room with the stone mosaic, and run right into Penny and Ehzmaralduh, who have been standing by the mosaic waiting patiently.

Penny’s mouth drops open, and Ehzmaralduh folds her arms across her chest.

But, I don’t understand, Penny says at last. Is this the pool of all the right words we’ve been looking for or not? Is it somewhere else? What am I supposed to do now?

She begins to grow agitated, leaning forward and raising her voice.

I’ve followed you heroes through one sort of nonsense after another and all because our village respects your chief’s authority in the region. Instead of sending warriors to remove the gnolls and kobolds, they sent me with you. To find the right words, whatever that was supposed to mean, and I’ve been tagging along all this time waiting for you to do something, anything that is supposed to help my family, my friends, my home! WELL! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NOW!

However, even Tabaaac is kind of stumped about how to use it, and he's really smart!" says the Greatest Goblin Druid. "Rawr! When things get rushed, things go wrong. Gobzilla suggests that he and his friends quickly look northwest. There's (probably) nothing to lose, and there might be clues. Hopefully an instruction manual."

What exactly were we supposed to do when we found the Pool?

With that, from deep down below, there comes a faint rumbling, like the gurgle and rush of an approaching flood.

And as it grows louder, you all begin to hear laughter mingled among the sounds of the rushing, splashing, and churning water.

And then a roiling fountain of water rises up above the small wall surrounding the once empty well. it rises in the air some seven or eight feet, and then it suddenly stops, falls back again and fills the area of the well completely, and two young water elementals appear.

They assume the shape of aquatic humanoids from the waist up, appearing about twice your size, and one appears as a male, while the other as a female.

And they are both laughing heartily.

male

Well, well, well, the male water weirdo says crossing his watery arms across his narrow chest

You’ve made it this far the female says

I didn’t think you’d come out the other end in one piece the male says

I knew you would the female says.

The male water elemental drops his arms and his mouth opens in shock, he cries out You were rooting for them this whole time weren’t you?

Well it’s been a long time since anyone used the pool of all the right words, I sort of miss all the excitement. Don’t you?

I suppose you have a point,he replies putting his watery hand on his chin. Alright heroes, what’s it going to be. Answers to life’s puzzling questions, the winning lottery numbers, or are you just trying to find out who your secret Santa is? Take up the bowls, and, hehe, try to deliver some water to the well. If you can get enough water into it, your questions will be answered, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. You see, at the bottom of the well lies a sleeping spirit of the elemental plane of fire, his name is Illa Adekah, and he can only be awakened by the splash of the cool waters from this pool. But his wife, a spirit of the plane of earth doesn’t want him woken from his slumber, as he tends to become aroused when he is awake, and wants to make children with his wife, so she will roll the very ground you walk upon to try to make you spill the waters. It’s a difficult task to fulfill, but the reward is said to be worth the risk.

But, Wally his sister pleads with him What about the Necrodreagonomechadon?

Well, I suppose it might wake up from all the shaking, but maybe it won’t. I guess they are just going to have to decide if the risk is worth taking?

"Rawr! Anything special about that water? Would another source work?" asks Gobzilla as he points at the fountain. "And is using a bowl strictly required for carrying the water?"

Half of this campaign has been figuring out wacky solutions to the puzzles.

male

The male, Wally, water-wierdo tilts his head to the side and looks confused.

Talking to her won't do much good, she just doesn't want him woken. And you must need to wake him, or you wouldn't have come all this way. he is the only one who can access the right words.

His sister, Wanda, smiles and says, Maybe you can talk him out of doing whatever it is she doesn’t want him to do, or offer him something else in exchange for bothering her

As to the bowls, that’s not really Wally says, shrugging, which sends a splash of water from each of his shoulders down into the pool, under our control. The bowls are blessed, and are the only things that will even be able to remove the water from this well. You have to fill them up as best you can, and then walk very slowly with them so as to try not to spill very much on the way to the well. I can’t tell you I know exactly how much water it takes to wake him up, but I think the picture on the stone has a clue. The ground will tremble, but it won’t be so bad that it knocks you off your feet, that would be too obvious and she would probably be called out for committing a foul, as these sort of games go. But The most important thing, probably, is that you don’t wake the dragon.

Scooping water into the bowl, Fluuk will fill it and start his march saying just the right words. "Step carefully, don't make a sound. Earth lady will notice, and shake the ground. We're heroes together through thick and thin, Fire serpent and Necro-whats-it won't stop us from our win!"

As Fluuk takes a few steps with the bowl held tightly, he is quick to recognize that the shape and size of the bowl is comfortable in his hands. He is the first to approach the water, and carefully scoops up a full bowl.

Tabaac and Gobzilla take up bowls as well, but before they can move toward the well, it begins.

The twins in the water, look apprehensive, almost surprised at the delay, but in a moment or two the ground begins to gently roll, as if a slight earthquake is beginning. It is a shaking motion, side to side, and Fluuk struggles to keep the water in the bowl from spilling

This is a Dexterity Challenge. Each character that takes a bowl full of water must pass a Reflex Save, the DC is 14. If you fail you spill the water before reaching the Pool of All the Right Words. You only need to make one save, if you move at half your normal speed or two saves if you move at your normal speed. You cannot run. If you succeed you can dump the bowl into the “pool” (the deep hole where the statue of a Goblin Goddess with an open mouth is found). The distance is 60 feet from the well to the pool

The target can call upon this good luck once per round, allowing him to reroll any ability check, attack roll, saving throw, or skill check, taking the better result. He must decide to use this ability before the first roll is made. At 8th level and 16th level, the duration of this hex is extended by 1 round. Day 6? (turn 65) , impossible to tell what time of day it might

Tabaaac spills the bowl of water he is carrying, but he makes it as far as the monolithic sculpture, and takes a moment to count the number of goblins depicted. There are nine goblins, five males and four females in the line. The head of the line appears to be a goblin priestess and she is holding her hands high in the air, her mouth is open, and she is not carrying a bowl. The other eight are all carrying bowls, some with both hands, some with only one hand, with their other hand outstretched as if they are trying to keep their balance.

Gemdar tries to assist Fluuk in his attempt and Fluuk is successful, reaching the hole in the floor with a full bowl, he looks around, shrugs, and dumps the water into the pit.

It only takes a moment for the heroes to realize a strategy here will make them foolproof. With a simple spell guiding the steps and helping them along, with a smart line formed of goblins who understand the heritage of copying the one in front of you, and gleeful shouts of “I was going to do that!” several bowls of cool water are quickly transported to the waiting hole in the ground. As each bowl is delivered, the ground shakes more violently, rolling up and down, and side to side, shaking dust from the ceiling.

When the eighth bowl is dropped into the hole, a hiss of steam comes rising up from below. The temperature in the room begins to rise, and yellow light shines from deep in the hole, growing brighter

And brighter

And BRIGHTER

Until with a loud roar of heated air

a strong hot blast blows out of the hole and a tall flame jets upward, spins in a rapid swirl over and over again, and then transforms into a tall lanky figure of a male goblin. His face is pointed, and his hair is a living fire of green, orange, and blue. His arms are overly long and thin, and he folds them into each other like a braided rope.

Penny rushes to get closer to Gobzilla, and takes his arm. She opens her mouth and is about to speak when…

The tall willowy fire elemental bends his head backward and lets out a laugh that sounds like the roar of an enormous furnace when the bellows have been seriously pumped.

Oh, my dear, dear sweet misguided children of the dream. You worry so much about the little things. There is no need to be concerned. I have no wish, or want to mistreat you, or misguide you, you are well on your way through the mortal perils of your own existence. Speak all your questions, and I will answer them as well as I can, for my knowledge is great but it is not all encompassing. When you are ready to ask a favor, I will guide you toward making your wish clear. But, you must understand this. I can speak of things I know, and guess at things I do not, hahaha, but when I grant a favor, the one and only one you receive, it will be done to the best of my ability, and it will be final.

The elemental frowns, crosses his arms, and bends far over to bring his head right above Tabaaac, and then he grins, pulling his lips tight which throws small burning embers into the air, and says

No,

He then straightens up, stretches his back and says
One favor, only one favor. Who it is for, what it is for, how it is resolved, we shall see, but it will be only one.
