Savage Worlds: Necessary Evil Campaign (Inactive)

I'm expressing interest, but I've got an awful lot on my plate at this particular moment. I'm hoping to have something up early next week (if you're still looking for someone to join). c:

We are certainly still open.

What were you considering as a concept?

How familiar are you with Savage Worlds and do you have access to the Necessary Evil Players guide? The second question in there is by far the most important.

Very rough outline of the new & improved Fulminara, now without that pesky intangibility issue...

'The unwitting culmination of a depraved Atlantean cult's generations'-long scheme to topple the rightful throne of Atlantis; Tracy Warren had no idea the fate in store for her on her eighteenth birthday...
Of course, her birthday happened to coincide with the day the V'sori showed their true colors, wiping out every hero on the planet & driving the Atlantean race to near-extinction.
Consequently, Tracy's transmogrification into the violent harridan calling herself Fulminara did not signal the cult's last step toward victory. Still, a frightened, confused young woman remains trapped within the body & psyche of this Human-Atlantean Giantess.'

Fulminara review:

Race: Are you going human or Hybrid here? I see the word hybrid in your description but there is no mention of the racial telepathy. So Human or Hybrid?

Traits:
~Attributes, check. All at d6 w/o powers correct?

~Skills. You seem to have some points left.
Fighting 8pts {1pt for d4 & d6, 2pt each for d8 d10 and d12}
Intimidation 2pt
Notice 2pt
Survival 1pt
Total {8+2+2+1=}13 2 pts left or did I miss something?

Hindrances check. With a question
~Gimmick. {Major, two characters} So what exactly is the gimmick? It seems to be shedding blood but I am not 100% sure that is what you meant. Please clarify.
Note: if it is blood then I will need to know if the change can be triggered accidentally or by someone else. Also what would happen if Tracy needs some blood drawn?}

Edges check.

Powers check.
Why Armor over Toughness? The trapping seems more like toughness to me.

Figured stats check.

Tracy Warren review:

Race. Same question Human or Hybrid?

Everything else. Check.

You might want to swap a skill around to get some heal skill. If transforming involves shedding blood a d4 for first aid might come in handy.

All together excellent work. Answer the minor questions and you are good to go.

Welcome to the fun house.

Feel free to hop into the discussion thread. We can either ret-con you into Sapele's slot in the prison break or have you a new Omega member Dr. Destruction assigned to this cell. Your call. Or really anything else you can think up.

Poor Wandering GM:
Fulminara is a Hybrid. Technically, Tracy should also be one, but the same enchantments which made Fulminara what she is suppressed her Atlantean genetic heritage from manifesting when 'Tracy' is dominant/manifest.

Yes, without powers, all of Fulminara's attributes are at d6. If your math says I have another two more skill points available, I trust it. I will bump Survival up to d6 & pick up another d4 Skill in something.

Yes, Fulminara comes out any time Tracy bleeds, for any reason. In the comic book, the second time Crush came out was actually due to Elizabeth's period. Yes, Tracy is aware of this & is rather...
extreme in her attempts to avoid getting cut or in any other way drawing blood.

Good point on Tracy definitely having a use for the Heal skill. I will switch out her Knowledge: History for Heal.

Mostly because Armor costs one point less per level than Toughness does & I only had enough points for a level of Armor. I could make her even more of a 'Glass Cannon' by switching out the Armor for two more ranks of Strength to officially move her up to 'superhuman strength' levels; being able to chop effectively all damage in half goes a long way towards making her very difficult to put down...

So tracy/Fulminara has the Hybrid limited telepathy correct?

If so then it should be on the character sheet.

You also have $1000 to spend at NE/Core prices.

Let me know when everything is ready for final review.

Looking good so far though.

Hrngggg, I'm sloooow. ;_; Also, I forgot to plan for some of the events that are coming up. I am, however, working to get something up. I've got someone helping me to try and figure it out. >^<

No problem, life happens. Let me know if I can help.

Yes, she is, I will make the corrections to her sheet. Likewise regarding gear. Tonight, I'm posting from my phone right now.

{Due to the normal Slings and arrows of PbP we need an extra body or two so I am reopening recruitment for this game. ~Poor Wandering GM}

If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans. ~Stephen Hawking

The Necessary Evil campaign for Savage Worlds has long been a favorite of mine, so much a favorite that I am taking the likely insane step of translating it into play-by-post.

Necessary Evil, for those poor souls unfamiliar with it:
Characters in NE are villains. Not in the class of Lex Luthor or Dr. Doom, yet, but a step up from killers like Zsasz. As the players guide puts it:

Necessary Evil Players guide wrote:

Evil, Not Psychotic
Necessary Evil is all about playing the villains of four-color comics, with their grand schemes of world domination and destruction. While these villains may be murderous and megalomaniacs, they don’t tend to be mindless killers without purpose. The super-villain you make up should at least have the potential for working with other super-villains. While playing a completely anti-social psychotic does have its charms, it does not usually make for good team game-play. Take some time to consider why your villain would cooperate with other villains, especially under the circumstances. Your villain could certainly murder his fellow compatriots at a later date to serve his own goals, but for the time being, he ought to realize he’s more powerful with others by his side.

So take Mark Hamill's Joker as the boundary line ok?

It isn’t necessary to imagine the world ending in fire or ice — there are two other possibilities: one is paperwork, and the other is nostalgia. ~Frank Zappa.

What I need from you. First off I am not requesting full characters yet. If you have accesses to the Necessary Evil rules or Players Guide then by all means feel free but for right now I just need enough to start with. Note if selected you will need to have access to the Necessary Evil Players Guide. It has things like weapons, armor, equipment, setting information and character generation. More importantly it has all the background, clues, hints and secrets that I will forget to tell you. I suppose you could manage without it but you would be missing out on some important information.

Please answer the following questions in your application.
a) What is your concept? Give me a one or two sentence description of your villain.

b) What do you look like? Hair/eye color? Height and Weight? Think of what your villains mug shot would look like.

c) What can you do? What separates you from the masses? Brains? Training? Acidic blood? Magic tea cozy?

d) What have you done? What separates you from a random thug? Describe a typical crime. There is a reason you could not be at the welcoming ceremony with Champion.

e) What have you been doing lately? How have you spent the last two years under V'sori occupation?

Everything I was afraid of when I was growing up, I've become. I've taken on my nightmares, like the devil and the end of the world, and I've become those things. ~Marilyn Manson

Concepts are up to you but I am afraid that the plot requires some restrictions. Feel free to ask me why but there is very little that I can tell you …
No Robots, cyborgs are fine but there needs to be meat in there somewhere.
No Aliens. Well there are Atlanteans and Atlantean-human crossbreeds but no other aliens are available.
You must have a body. This does not mean you cannot turn into a ghost/a gas/a shadow/etc. You can even normally be in that state but if your powers are suppressed you have to have a body to go home to. Basically you have to be able to be restrained.

This is all I need so please, show me a rogue’s gallery.

I swear it is starting to feel like destiny. :)

At any rate, how long do you plan to keep this newest recruitment open? I should really only try to join if another Savage Worlds games does not take off, and things are not looking good right now.

Poor Wandering GM wrote:

Nohwear Given this and in particular the PM you sent me when you dropped out of the first round of character generation, are you able to commit to what could be an AP length game?

This is rather critical. You are welcome to join but I need to know if I can count on you to be there as a player. This will tell me how much personalized tweaking of the plot to do.

We have had two players vanish on this game. I do not want there to be a third.

I PMed you an idea I had, however I am afraid it may cause some issues, but I'd hope not.

Didn't outline, but her powers would be flame and psionics.

Well the PM idea does violate one of the guidelines. So that is a non-starter.

However, take a look at the Delusional hindrance. How much of a difference is there between truth and a firmly held belief?

This would likely be a minor delusion because the impact on your actions would be minimal.

what do you think?

Hello. Dotting this thread for interest.

I don't have any experience in Savage Worlds or Necessary Evil, but I can afford to buy the guide.

Will flesh my character concept more later this week, but Dr. Buttonik (that's pronounced BUE-tonic!) is a combination of Doctors Wily and Robotnik/Eggman from Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog. Brilliant roboticist, delusions of grandeur, huge ego.

I'll fill out the survey as soon as I can.

Welcome
The Test drive rules will give you the basics though the full rules and also dirt cheap as RPG's go. The test drive and the NE players guide are all you really need but the full rule book adds more goodies.

Concept: Hmmmm I can see Dr. Button (derisive nickname given to you by the Alpha Squadron <this games version of the Avengers/JLA> and the Media) fitting in quite well.

Is there a slot still open? I am familiar with SW and have the player's guide.

Sure, pitch me a concept and we will see where it goes.

Open for 1-2 players.

Come one, come all
come Harlequin,
come Maxie Zeus,
come Condiment King
and save the world.

I'm coming already, sheesh.

Familiar enough with SW but not NE. I think a friend has a copy, though, so I'll be able to skim it. I do have the Super Power Companion (1e) so that may help. Anyway...

Quote:
a) What is your concept? Give me a one or two sentence description of your villain.

Just because it's my name and all, I'll go with Snake Charmer as a concept. She was an archaeology student on a dig somewhere in Iran when she found a statue of the medusa.

Quote:
b) What do you look like? Hair/eye color? Height and Weight? Think of what your villains mug shot would look like.

Pretty in a Persian way. She's petite, with dark, almond eyes, a prominent schnoz, and silky black (or sometimes writhing, green, scaly) hair.

Quote:
c) What can you do? What separates you from the masses? Brains? Training? Acidic blood? Magic tea cozy?

Well, she's charming. And she can make her hair turn into poisonous snakes. I also feel like she has a flying carpet.

Quote:
d) What have you done? What separates you from a random thug? Describe a typical crime. There is a reason you could not be at the welcoming ceremony with Champion.

She's an archaeologist, very committed to preserving antiquities. Since her encounter with the cursed statue, she's taken the "if you want something done right, do it yourself" thing a bit to heart, and has been knocking over museums and stealing all manner of ancient artifacts. To keep them safe. She continues her battle to preserve these ancient works of art in scholarly articles and in whatever media outlet she can reach. Ironically, whatever success she has on this front only makes her criminal activity more difficult.

Quote:
e) What have you been doing lately? How have you spent the last two years under V'sori occupation?

Not quite crazy enough to trust the V'sori with her secret, Roxana Razavi has recently accepted a position at the University of Whereever's Convenient. She teaches classes, and gets very angry whenever anyone reminds her that she never used to wear a hijab.

Hi there - I'd be interested in playing if you're still looking. One of your players (Atlas 2112) mentioned that you are reopening recruitment. He plays in a Call of Cthulhu campaign that I'm running using Savage World rules and thought I might fit-in with the rest of your players.

I have the Necessary Evil supplement (for some reason I tend to collect Savage World supplements thinking that I may sometime use them for a campaign) but I need to look through it again before fleshing out the character. I'll get that done in the next day or two and submit it for your review. Until then, this is what I was thinking:

What is your concept? Jud Smith is strong and tough but the boy ain't too bright. All his life, he's been following the wrong crowd and at this point he only knows one thing...how to break stuff open to steal what's inside. Jud figures, if they didn't want their stuff taken, they should have bought a stronger box to keep it in

What do you look like? Ol' Jud is really big and unfortunately for him as ugly as he is big. His bald head looks like someone has rearranged his skull by smashing it repeatedly with a baseball bat. His tiny eyes peer suspiously at his surroundings and his face, well, his face looks like Joe Lewis used it for a punching bag. Jud's face is the kind that makes children scream and women turn away in horror.

What can you do? Jud is strong, freakishly strong, the kind of strong that allows him to rip bank vault doors off their hinges. He's also tough, really tough, the kind of tough that allows to shrug off blows that would destroy any normal man.

What have you done? Jud's graduated from mugger, to bookie enforcer, to robber and finally to bank robber. A typical crime for Jud is to walk into a bank and without saying anything, pick up the guard and swing him against a wall over and over until the guard stops making any noise. At that point he heads for the vault still carrying the guard's body. Anyone gets in the way gets smacked with the guard until they stop moving. Reaching the vault, he grabs a door and rips it off its hinges and gtabs the first bag of money he sees and then runs out of the bank. Unfortunately, banks are getting smarter and now often have more than 1 guard making his job twice as hard which is very annoying to Jud.

What have you been doing lately? Jud's tactics haven't changed much since the invasion. He tends to hit smaller banks that the invaders don't seem to care about. Having few needs, one heist tends to keep him fed and his rent paid for months so he's only pulled 2 jobs since the invasion. However, money is about gone and seeing the invaders walking around with their fancy weapons have made Jud decide that maybe he should try to find some smarter crooks to hang out with as the solo life is getting hazardous to his health.

Charmer The companion will help with character creation but access to the Necessary Evil players guide in whatever form is a requirement for play. Without it you will be slaughtered and not even know why. The PDF is cheap from Pinnacle.

Questions: Flying carpet? I am looking forward to seeing that.

Aubster And hello to you. I am assuming you will be able to resist reading too much of the GM's section.

Questions: Do you think Jud and Rigor will be competing for limelight?
I think I can deal with two bricks but you will need to at least think about not upstaging each other.

Both
Rough concepts look good. Would love to see some crunch if you are in the mood. Question for you. Why are you working for Omega? Are you loyal? Blackmailed? Is Dr. Destruction just a port in a storm?

Doctor Kelvin Buttonik and his college buddy Dr. Eddie Lumens loved robotics. Well, Lumens loved communications more, but Robotics won out. Lumens even made a pet robot hawk named Echoes thanks to his supersonic top speed. With their inventions, Buttonik saw a chance to turn his family legacy around.

Too bad his family was soon captured, killed or forcibly conscripted by the government. A long line of infamous criminals, thieves and terrorists who specialized in automations to carry out their crimes. Buttonik thought his family had gained acceptance. Guess not.

So Buttonik went back to the family business: build robots, use mechanized suits and personal riders to steal, destroy and control the world. And every time victory seemed close, Echoes the Hawk would show up, smash his latest death machine, and send Buttonik packing. Even worse, Hawk and Dr. Lumens would gain another medal and recognition for his incredible robotics. Hawk once mocked his "stupid name, Dr. Butt-tonic Button" during a victory ceremony and the Dr. Button moniker stuck.

HIs two favorite AIs are named Omegaton and Gammix. Omegaton is loyal and a powerful smasher unit, but pessimistic and constantly bored. Gammix is the potent blasting unit and she enthusiastically supports all of Dr. Buttonik's plans, no matter how hopeless they are! He admits he needs both to keep him motivated.

Imagine his surprise when the K’tharen and later the V'sori invaded. How dare they try to take over! That's Buttonik's world!

Dr. Buttonik and his college buddy Dr. Eddie Lumens were big into robots.

a) Dr. Kelvin Buttonik is a brilliant roboticist, descending from a long line of robotics experts. He enjoys building automated but loyal robots and getting 'hands-on.'

b) Buttonik's not fat! He's...big boned. Alright he has a gut and skinny chicken legs that are surprisingly fast for his size. He enjoys grooming his incredible mustache and his thick eyebrows, which he loves to wiggle. It's his favorite taunt!

c) Dr. Buttonik builds robotic suits and portable rides for himself. He (used to) have them stashed throughout the world! He can build automata, and usually runs with the idiot syncophant Gammix, his portable blaster and bored pessimist smasher Omegaton. (Think of Dr. Robotnik's Egg Walker in Sonic Adventure 2)

d) HIs idea of a crime involves destroying a military outpost as a distraction while getting his hands on their secured data. Then he takes the data to improve his robots and continuing his plans to build a new doomsday weapon to threaten the world with.

e) Watching his old college buddy (now arch nemesis) Dr. Eddie Lumens and his stupid pet robot Echoes the Hawk get obliterated by the V'sori really hurt. I mean, Dr. Buttonik was supposed to destroy him! No one else! No wait, they must not really be dead. Right? Right?

Buttonik spent the last two years searching for them, waiting for some kind of sign his nemesis was alive and planning a comeback. He never found one. So, against Omegaton's wishes (and with Gammix's support) Buttonik brazenly hijacked a V'sori communications array. His army was wiped out. Omegaton ('s body) was destroyed buying the good doctor time to hijack the array. Gammix was fried while hacking through V'sori security. But it was worth it! Buttonik grabbed a microphone.

"I know you're out there, Lumens! You and that abhorrent hawk! We have unfinished business. What are you waiting for? Let's throw these aliens out and get back to the real fight between you and me, Doctor. Kelvin. Button-"

Several stun batons later, Buttonik was captured and analyzed. He's sure the reason they haven't killed him, but clearly the V'sori were impressed with his incredible intelligence! Too bad. They'll all burn.

Alright, finally taking a look at Necessary Evil.

Yeah, the flying carpet is a stretch. It just seemed to fit flavorwise. Maybe she stole a carpet that doesn't fly, yet. And I got the player's guide, so I just need to read it.

(a few minutes later)

Roxana's loyalty is based on her goals. Her options are to go it alone or to work with Omega. If Dr. D. succeeds in his goal, he will rule the world. Muahahaetc. If she is placed well in his organization, she'll be able to gather all those precious artifacts to a secure location and keep them safe.

Snake charmer It occurs to me that you could well have the strongest anti-V'sori motivation of the group. The orbital bombardment permanently erased much of the worlds history and art.

Actually the carpet looks to be about 3pts. The Vehicle at 3 points gets you a vehicle costing as much as $500k. The Yaschuk Aerodyne flying car costs exactly, and not at all suspiciously, $500k.
So 3 points gets you either a flying car with some Persian styled body work or an actual magic carpet with the same stats. Details would need to be worked out but it can be done!

Dr. Button I like the enthusiasm. I like the Magneto-Xavier thing with Lumens. The Sonic references not liking so much. If you tone them down it is fine. Imagine the writers want to do an overt Sonic homage but the publishers can't get the IP licensed and the lawyers are watching. This could just be a personal thing as I think I have seen an episode or two of the cartoon but that is about it for my Sonic exposure. I have never found a platformer that did not make me want to pot my fist through the screen so 99% or the references will sail right past.

Hmm, didn't consider the X-Men angle. As I was writing him I started mixing in Dr. Doom's college rivalry. Mega Man and Sonic's doctors have huge rivalries with their archnemesis, so I used that as a source.

In terms of build, I either want a personal walker to run around in or two semi autonomous robots to control. Either is fine with me. Quickly glancing through the archetypes it looks like that puts me at either gadgeteer or the armored warrior type.

I'll start crunching once I finish reading through the Necessary Evil sourcebook.

Some crunch double check my numbers if you don't mind.

Stats after spending the initial 5 points
Agility d4
Smarts d4
Spirit d4
Strength d10
Vigor d8

Hindrances (standard 1 major/2minor + 1 additional major for 5 extra power points)
Clueless - major
Overconfident - major
Heartless - minor
Ugly - minor

Spend 2points to raise Vigor to d10

Edge (free human edge + 1 from hindrances)
Take the hit
Brawny

Super powers (15 points)
Super Attribute Strength 6 points so Strength is d12+5
Super Attribute Vigor 4 points so Vigor is d12+3
Toughness 3 points
Super Edge 2 points to gain Martial Artist combat edge

Skills (15 points)
Fighting 5 points for d8
Throwing 5 points for d8
Intimidate 5 points for d8

Derived stats
Charisma -2
Pace 6
Parry 6
Toughness 11

Hopefully it won't be a problem to have two bricks...my impression is that Rigor is more well-rounded. Jud basically is dumb as a, well, a brick. His basic move is to smash something with his bare-hands. A fancy move is to throw something heavy at somebody. Besides that he can rip things apart and take a punch like crazy but that's about it.

Jud's working for Dr. Doom because he has no marketable skills besides smashing things and since the invasion it's harder for a big dumb guy to make a living by smashing people and taking their stuff. He's loyal until somebody comes along with a better offer (which for Jud could be a handful of magic beans).

Quick question: is the AB: superpowers free or do we buy it as an edge as usual? Either way is fine, but another edge is always nice. Still building Snake Charmer. I think I'll have to let the flying carpet go ... for now. Her current power array suits the concept brilliantly.

Agi d6 Sma d8 Spi d8 Str d4 Vig d6
Pace 6, Parry 3, Toughness 5 Charisma +2
Edges: Arcane Background: Superpowers, Attractive
Hindrances: Quirk (obsession with antiquities) Yellow, Curious, Bad Eyes

Skills: Knowledge (archaeology) d8, Notice d8, Investigation d8, Repair d4, Shooting d6, Persuasion d6, Streetwise d4

Powers:
Ranged attack: Medusa's Eyes (3) cone template (2) linked to Paralysis (2+4 for extra range+1 for extra power (vigor rolls at -2) 12 total
Damage Field (hair of snakes) (3)

She's a very, very glass cannon at this point, with a big attack, very little defense and some big weaknesses besides. I'm looking for wiggle room where I can harden her a little, but I'm running p against my concept. Anyway, she's a work in progress.

Jud Holding off on a full audit because I think I am seeing an Agility, Spirit, and Smarts of d4. I don't normally poke into folks design choices other than to make sure everything adds up but you might want to take a look at the Tricks and Tests of will rules. Also the recovering from shaken mechanic.

If this is what you want to play and you are aware that you will be rather vulnerable to getting 'Shaken locked' then all is good and I will do the full audit.

Also the unarmed defender rule does not apply to this setting (see setting rules in NE book/guide) so all the Martial Artist edge does in this setting is get you an extra d4 damage. If that is what you want then rock on but if you were taking it to avoid the unarmed defender penality then you might want a rethink.

Snake Charmer Good news! AP Superpower is a free edge for this setting so it looks like you get another edge.

First audit for Snake Charmer:

Stats are correct 5/5
Skills are correct 15/15

Hindrances are correct but where are you using your hindrance points?
Curious (major)
Yellow (major, super karma)
Quirk (minor)
Bad Eyes (minor, I assume you wear glasses?)

Edges
AB Superpowers (free with setting)
Attractive (human edge)

Powers are correct.
Medusa'a eyes: 12pt ({Attack Ranged 3pt, Area effect Cone 2pt)(Paralysis 2pt, Ranged link to Medusa's eye AR 4pt, Extra power 1pt)}

Snakes in a hairdo: 3pt (Damage field 3pt)

Looks good. Also looks like you have 4 hindrance points left to spend.

Bad Eyes (minor, I assume you wear glasses?) In an interesting (or not) reversal of the Superman trope, Roxana Rozavi wears contact lenses. As they tend to dissolve and leave uncomfortable grit in her eyes when she uses her Medusa's Eye power, she takes them off when she's planning on being Snake Charmer, and wears glasses instead. The glasses don't suffer any ill effects from the powers, and she does wear a "nerdstrap" as I think the SW rules call it.

Adding the Elan edge.

OK so the linked Paralysis opens up a trappings question. Most linked powers require the 'vehicle' attack to at least shake a target before the 'rider' power can effect that target. Think poisoned arrows.

Other linked trappings keep things more independent like a grenade that releases a toxic gas. In these cases the 'rider' power is blocked by things like sealed armor.

How to you see your eye beams working?

Do you see your powers operating in any way other than standard? Any trapping other than 'generic super powered physique'?

Jud's human.

The only trapping I'd suggest is one associated with his toughness, specifically that Jud has hardened, cracked, gray mottled skin; sort of how a gargoyle's skin is typically portrayed, almost like stone.

Jud, questions for
So how did Jud get his powers?

There are (Were? Most probably dead but then.....) two major players in the pre-invasion supervillain scene who were known for experimenting in humans in hope of making more and better goons. Colonel Clone and Hydra the mutant mastermind both experimented with a variety of super-making modalities. Either one could have created Jud. Even without Jud knowing, both worked on prenatal mutation.... Just an idea.

Where was Jud active for his criminal career? The game is largely set in Star City but that does not mean you have to be from here. Either the V'sori or Dr. Destruction could have brought you here or you could have made your own way as this is the largest city still standing.

Do you bother to maintain a secret identity? Do you consider yourself a Super Villian?

Equipment

Flak Jacket
Motorcycle Helmet
Brass Knuckles
Grenades x4
Normal Clothing
Disguise (Trenchcoat, Fedora, Sunglasses & Scarf).

Proposed backstory as long as it fits with the setting.

Jud doesn't know how he got his powers. He has vague memories of being a small child in what he assumes was an orphanage and then a longer period of time in a hospital with mean nurses and sadistic doctors. The time in the hospital was filled with horribly painful procedures and injections of strange glowing liquids.

Jud's not sure of how long he was at the facility but does know that it was during the hospital period that he his skin grew hard and gray and he got strong...really strong...amazingly strong. Jud's stay was ended when there was an explosion that destroyed the building.

As far as Jud knows, he was the only survivor, somehow protected by his strange skin. Since then he's lived by taking what he needs and then fleeing. As he grew older he grew even stronger and his appearance even more hideous so he's learned to hide himself as much as possible with a coat, hat and scarf. He's robbed his way across the Midwest and Upper South always heading East until he at last found himself at Star City. He was recruited by one of Dr. Doom's minions who saw him rip a vault apart in a bank hold-up.

Jud doesn't consider himself a super-villain but does believe that there is no one that could take him in a straight up fight.

stats. And i'm an idiot. Thanks for catching that.

My answer to this question is getting epic, so PM incoming.

Finally did some crunch to work on Dr. Buttonik. Apologies, it's my first Savage Worlds character.

One question - Necessary Evil's Arcane Background Edge says I get 5 additional Power Points if I take a Major Hinderance. Does this stack with the normal 2 points I would get for taking a Major Hinderance? I'm relying on that to use 20 Power Points.

Race Human
Traits
Agility d6
Smarts d10
Spirit d6
Strength d4
Vigor d4

Hinderances
Gloating (Major)
Dr Lumens and his stupid pet hawk were thrown into death trap after death trap. Dr. Buttonik loved telling them about how they were powerless to stop his plans to steal the world’s supply of emeralds, or hijack the Robot Battle Competition and start an invasion. All they could do is watch the slowly moving laser fry them. He didn’t have to watch it either - he knew they were doomed! Just like last time!

Distinct Appearance (Minor)
Dr. Buttonik’s massive gut, skinny chicken legs and huge eyebrows give him away every time.

Edges
Mechanical Genius (smarts d6, repair d6, notice d8) - free for being human
Arcane Background (Super Powers) for free (this gives 10 Power Points for free, 15 Power Points with a major hinderance)
Power Points (5 extra points) - Gloating Hinderance

Skills
16 points to spend = 15 + 1 from Hinderance

No it does not stack. The Super Karma setting rule allows you to take a SECOND major hindrance for which you get 5pp.

So an example of the full set of hindrances allowed

Major hindrance: Grants the normal 2 hindrance points
Second major hindrance: grants ONLY five power points. NO hindrance points.

Minor hindrance and Second minor hindrance: grant hindrance points as normal.

Does that help?

Snake charmer

I can see your point on the eye beams however I am still cautious. Paralysis is quite nasty.

How is this for a solution.

The carrier attack does NOT need to shake a target for the rider to have effect. However neither the ranged attack nor the paralysis will effect a target that is either not alive or cannot see you.

This means Robots, doors, blind people, sleeping people, zombies, monsters w/o eyes but Daredevil like hearing will be unaffected. An edge case like someone using active night vision or in a vehicle/power-suit the uses cameras and view screens rather than windows to give a real-time visual feed will be immune half the time. Think of Perseus and the mirror.

Does that work?

Thanks for clearing that up. In that case I took 1 major and 1 minor hinderance. With the 3 hinderance points, I take the Power Points Edge and 1 extra skill point. That puts me at 15 PP and 16 SP. I reduced the good doctor's powers by 3 and now he's 15/15 PP.

That's a perfect compromise, I think. Now I just need to see about buying a bit of gear and I'm off to the races.

Jud and Snake Charmer

Please finish up gear etc and report to the Discussion thread.
The group is about to annoy the Southpoint Slashers how do you see yourselves getting involved?

I am leaning towards just dropping you in and ret-conning the intro later.

Dr. Buttonic

1. What is a "combat ride"?

2. So you are not utilizing the 'Super Karma' rule nor are you taking your second minor hindrance. Correct?

1. Somewhere between Power Armor (like the Armor-Clad Super) and Professor Xavier's floating hoverchair, Dr. Buttonic likes to travel around in an automated walker device. It has two legs, a panel at around mid waist, but it is large enough for the good doctor to sit into.

I can just make it a suit of armor, if we need to simplify it.

2. That is correct. These seemed like the correct Major and Minor hinderances to take.

Re:1. So not a vehicle. Cool.

Re:2. Not that 5 power-points matter a whole lot in the long run but by not taking advantage of the Super Karma rule you are passing up a one time only offer. Not a big deal but it is one of the few 'use-it-or-lose-it' things in SW.

Also on powers.
Awareness, depending on trappings, can do everything Darkvision can do and more. Why are you taking both?
