To Imagine: Nah, as long as your mom is cool with what goes down here, it's fine. Although, if she's gonna nag me about washing the dishes and stuff, it's gonna break. As far as what I need from the store, some frozen pizzas would be nice. I think that what I need is some reds. I'm gonna go out and score some reds and collect my gear from my stash at my mom's.

Carl: Streetwise vs tn4 to find a dealer with out a problem. One day's dose will cost $200 or $100 for a dose of EZ rather than the real thing.

If you look in the local area (Southpoint) you can take a +2 to the roll as the selling by the Slashers is more open and aggressive.

Imagine No noticeable hitch with the shopping. I am assuming you get a cab back?

Nope. Invisible. Comma. Flying. ;-o I'll also get a backpack.

Imagine Cool remember to add anything you care about to your sheet. This form of "Shopping" can largely happen off screen now that the method is established. However, Weapons, Ammunition, weapon accessories, Combat drugs, or armor CANNOT be "purchased" off screen. None of these things are sold in normal shops.

Shaking her head slightly but definitively at Imagine's query, Tracy is already snarling at the owners manual for the 'med bay', muttering to herself, "seriously Spider,if you weren't already dead,I'd be tempted to kill you myself..."

The Med-tank is in perfect working order. Not new however, likely dating from the pre-Alpha Squadron era of the base. The technology comes from a 1918 world wide zombie outbreak. The alien virus-like-substance has been, largely, crippled and harnessed for it's rapid regenerative abilities. Rule wise it is no more and no less than the normal healing power.

Also. A woman arrives on a dusty scooter with too much luggage strapped on. Feel free to interact with/kill her until Imagine returns.

Imagine Feel free to RP Red.

Note we can also hand wave Red moving in if that is what you wish to have happen.

[dice=streetwise and wild]1d4+2;1d6+2

{The $20/day is the pre-invasion price. Like all combat gear Combat Drugs are interdicted by the V'sori and the restricted supply and raised the prices for all combat gear by a factor of 10. This is stated in the Gear section of the Players guide. EZ is a post invasion drug that will quell a combat drug addiction but provide no bonuses. Apart from the usual euphoria etc. I was wrong about the EZ price it is $50/day. I can assure you maintaining the Combat Drug habit will not be an insurrmountable burden. Just a major one as benefits a major hindrance.}

You easily find a scruffy bodega offering more red things than just peppers.
{Small error on the roll. Carl does not have the Streetwise skill so the roll was unskilled which is a -2. Southpoint grants a +2 in this case and with some GM goodwill was close enough.}

Alright, Tracy has had over 18 hours to kill my mom. And if you can't kill your friend's mom in a full day, when can you kill your friend's mom? Amirite? :)

To Red:Hey! Mom! Good to see you! I thought you were taking a cab? Where'd you get the scooter?

Stole it. Some gwoa lei left it unlocked down the block. If they don't know that half the residents know that hot-wiring is a thing in that neighborhood, I figured if it wasn't me it'd be someone else later. Anyway, I have your backup gear and a few odd and ends. Oh, and I brought your nightie collection--

Mother! Just keep it out of sight. If Heaven sees those he'll never leave me alone. The way he's been looking at Tracy you'd think...well, maybe they're already schtupping. Who are we to judge? Wanna come in? Let me help you with those.

Imagine opens the door and Telekinetically moves all the sacks and shopping bags inside while her mom walks the scooter in.

"Nice place you've got here!" says the woman. She's obviously past her prime, but moves with a grace that speaks of a past of action and mayhem. Though no longer slim, she's still skinny in the way that old women with good genes and an active lifestyle can be. Her hips still make an attempt at sway and match nicely with large, obviously surgically-enhanced breasts that still lift high in open defiance of age and gravity. She moves to introduce herself and shakes the hands of all present. "Hi everyone! My name is Red and I'm Imagine's mother. Please don't mind me. This ain't my first dance at the rodeo. I know my own daughter and I just want to see her be all her can be. And if that includes wasting some V'Sori-ass, then all the better!

Who's hungry? It looks like someone went shopping. Just point me at the kitchen and I'll see what I can do."

Imagine mind-wills the groceries up and soars after them while the old woman resolutely marches up the stairs toward the second floor. Intermixed among the faded cubicles and stained carpet was a fully-functional break room/kitchen with new-looking stove and refrigerator in eerily-shining similarity to the comm equipment in the office.

Red goes about pre-heating the stove and cooking a pizza for the yet-absent-but-soon-expected Carl (who sometimes gets the munchies when he's high), while Imagine flies the rest of her stuff into two other conference rooms--one that she herself has moved into and one for her mom.

Imagine digs out her belt and puts it on, the Force Field humming welcomingly. She sighs in relief.

A bag of snacks hovers in front of Heaven's face while words form in his head. Cheesy Poof? =)

A bag of snacks hovers in front of Tracy's face while words form in her head. Snickerdoodle? I always keep my promises. ;)

she's just what her daughter would be without powers...

Shaking her head in a kind of stunned bewilderment, Tracy says little other than to show 'Red' the interior of the hideout.

At Imagine's display of power & generosity, Tracy smiles guardedly.
"Thank you."

To Heaven: "It's just Carl, or you can call me Mr. Verblan. I'm just a guy who knows a guy. Right now, I need to find a guy to make sure I got what I need."

Later, on finding the prices... Darn! I'll have to make some real moolah to be able to afford this. Maybe I stashed some at home with mom.

He will get his stash from home. It includes his vest, his gun and some ammo, his drugs (a five day supply), and his lock picks.

Upon returning to Imagine: Girl, we gotta make some real moolah here. I don't know if you've seen, but prices have skyrocketed. You got any ideas?

Imagine dresses herself in a suit of white spandex that embraces the words "clothed" and "naked" in an almost Schrodinger-esque way. She completes the outfit with a scanty jean-jacket shrug that has a few inner pockets. Into those go the Stun Wand, flashlight, camera, and the thin wad of glue paper. She wraps the commlink around her wrist.

After adding her mom's vitals to the Security system, she takes up Heaven's observation and Carl's question.

To all:Heaven, Carl has a point. At some time we'll need to start something. And you're right, there is a gang around here, and a gang can be many things, from Enemy, to Resource, to Informants, to Ally, and everything in between. I say we just walk outside until either we're accosted or we find someone to accost. Then we just ask about the layout. The gangs make money and know things, so we'll just work our way up until we know what they know and make what they make. We can either supplant ourselves at their top, or not, as we see fit.

The easiest thing might be to just walk out the front door and see what's out there. Find some punk and interrogate him until he takes you to someone stronger. Rinse and repeat until you can go no higher, then the real Game begins!

Do you boys want to do most of the talking, while I fly support, or do you need me on Face?

How's that sound? Tracy? You in? Also, you're welcome. =)

A voice in the back of her head feels off-balance. She's not had proper sleep in quite some time, so there's been no flash of brilliance and corresponding plan. Meh. She'll get started today, and maybe soemthing will come to her tonight.

Carl Getting the gear from your stash is no problem. Your mother is not at home but she was there this morning judging by the breakfast dishes.
How are you getting there and back? Walking will take hours. The Maglev is running. Mayor Perez keeps the trains on time!
So you can take that to save shoe leather if you like.

Expression growing more & more concerned as Imagine outlines her ideas, Tracy shakes her head. "Not my game. Other than being a passable medic, I'm strictly what you might call 'plus one'. For what you're talking about, you want to talk to her..."

I'm realizing that, for a Brick/Brute, Fulminara really doesn't move me as a name. I'm thinking it should be something that requires a bit less explanation & has fewer sylables.
Suggestions? Opinions? Comments?

Imagine stares agape at Tracy's seemingly surreal denial that talking to people 'isn't her thing'.

to all:Oh, Honey, no no no no no! I don't know where you got this body-dismorphic thing, but, Girlfriend, it is -soooooooo- not you. You know what these things in front of your chest are? Imagine grabs her own and bounces them up and down for emphasis. THESE things are what we like to call an 'Effective Persuasion Technique'. And, Honey, yours are, Oh, very persuasive. Even with that third-hand gym suit that you insist on wearing for whatever reason, Girl, the Slashers would be putty in your hands, mmm-hmmm. C'mon, you'll have the two boys next to you as bruisers, and I'll be flying overwatch in case anyone tries anything fresh. Come! On! Girl power! Let's go own the neighborhood! Huh? You know you want to!

To Carl:Hey, wait up. Let's do this in a group. It'll probably make it easier for you if I can scout for targets and make sure no one shoots you in the back. It's hard to spend hard-stolen money when you're dead. ;-)

Question in Discussion

Oh, I see. Imagine & Tracy are talking past each other again.
Yes, I am aware just how powerful a +6 Charisma is in SW.

"That's...
not..."

Sighing as she shakes her head in frustration, Tracy quickly pulls out a utility knife, drawing the blade across her forearm until a bead of blood forms...

Before any of you can react, she is gone. Where she was, there now stands a corded-muscled figure of statuesque, even Amazonian proportions.

Anyway, um, yeah, let's roll. Carl, you're in a good mood, so you must've scored. Just re-trace your steps and I'm sure we'll hit some Slashers. Oh, Mom made you a 'za, did you make sure to grab that? Oh, hey, Mom, we're gonna go out, do some assault, probably theft and larceny. Maybe racketeering. I don't know what that is but I've always wanted to try it.

I think Heaven finished those cheesy poofs and fell asleep. I'll wake him up so he can come along.

Did everyone go tinkle? I don't wanna derail our disreputable power play for a bathroom break so makes sure to go. And everyone has their comlink, yeah? Super.

Oh yes, most definitely. The invasion did a real number on the electronic banking infrastructure so it is back to a cash economy. Over most of the world currency has become meaningless and folks are managing with gold, silver and barter.

The invaders do not use money. If a V'sori wishes to pay for something they give an ID number and the shopkeeper is reimbursed. The K'tharen simply take what they want, if the shop has a good relationship with a ranking V'sori they might be reimbursed. Drones simply have no needs.

Star City still uses US currency but only post invasion bills and coins are taken at face value. The price fluctuates but pre-invasion cash converts to modern at about a $10 old to $1 new ratio.

All in all it is a strange mix of the 40's and modern day. Banks have vaults with money in them but there are still ATM's in the affluent areas.

Specific to armored cars the biggest cash run is likely to be between the high-end stores at Industry Shops in East-point and Star City Bank in Uptown. You could also hit the Tempest brewery payroll, if you find out when pay bay is for the workers.

So, in spite of specifically wanting a name that didn't require explanation & only had one or two syllables, I almost went with T.T.D. (Test to Destruction), but then it occurred to me to do a Thesaurus check to see if there were any comparatively short words that were synonyms for Hardness, since, as I had already told PWGM, this gal is very much an inspiration for the character/s. Then I thought of Fury & was all set to go with that...
until I was informed that there is already a messageboard alias by that name.
So I went back to the drawing board & narrowed it down between Rigor, Toil & Trial. But I'm going with Rigor, in spite of the fact it has two syllables (I really wanted just one, I'm sorry, but the two defining bricks in comicbooks both have one syllable names...), because it just feels better to me.
Anyway, here she is.

Imagine:
'If you want to keep all your internal organs...
internal, don't make the mistake of thinking she & I are the same person, we aren't.'

Oddly enough, you realize she is communicating with you via her own Telepathy, rather than yours.

Head cocked at Carl's cockiness, Rigor leans down & in. "You think too small. Even 'Cutie' here," nodding to Imagine, "put more thought into her plan than 'money for smack'."
"You're right,"
she acknowledges to the other villainess, "if she had the guts, Tracy could very likely have damn near anyone she wanted eating out of her hand. It's just as well she doesn't or I'd be stuck there in that nut longer & more often than I already am."
"She,"
Rigor's contempt for Tracy is plain, "thought you were figuring her to help with matters in a more...
forceful manner."
As Rigor straightens, you all realize that the clothes she is wearing are the same ones Tracy was wearing mere seconds before, though possibly even more ill-fitting, in the opposite direction. You can see every chorded muscle & sinew, with only just enough body fat to proclaim her as female.

A name that feels better is as good a reason as any! Also, I think the dumb rules say that technically the hybrid telepathy only works on hybrids and Atlanteans, but I'm willing to add on 'and telepathically sensitive humans.' It seems only fair! =)

to all: Awww, you called me Cutie. Was that a Freudian slip? You know what that it? Where you inadvertently reveal your secret desires with a slip of the tongue? Mmmmm, well, I'm open minded. Play your cards right and we'll see where your tongue gets slipped. ;o

In the meantime, if you wanna be you and do that, that works too. I imagine the effect will be the same, just different in application.

Carl, let's simmer on the moneytruck for right now. Let's canvass the streets and see to our power base, then we can send out feelers for bigger game.

And, Baby, money-for-smack is a long and noble tradition. If we can't find anything better, that's our honey pot. I don't like it either, but you work with what works. In the meantime lets hit the pavement and see how the neighborhood looks.

So, if you don't want to be called 'Tracy', what do you want to be called?

Imagine follows as the party heads out the door.

Imagine makes sure to press that bright and shiny "Vmap app" button and damns the consequences!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

You activate the Vmap application.
The screen blanks for a moment and then displays the polygon icon as a background with the following text in the fore.

V’sory Military Activity Protocol v.1.7.
Welcome cell CELLNAME ERROR to the Vmap. This program monitors V’sori and SOCOP movements in the user’s area as well as coordinating tasks between OMEGA cells.
You have three 3 tasks and one 1 is time sensitive.

Display map:
the screen displays a Google-like map centered on you. It currently shows no V’sori activity though there is a SOCOP patrol A few blocks to the west. They are not heading in your direction. Any other activated Vmap devices are also displayed. Using this device grants a +2 to avoid the notice of SOCOP and Occupier patrols.

Tasks: The display changes to a map centered on the location of the task.

Milk Run. Time sensitive task. Priority low:

Message form Dr Destruction begins: “The V’sori have been sending, something, to the Southpoint Slashers. On an irregular schedule an armored transport leaves Beachhead and drives across town to Southpoint. I want to know what is in that transport. Whatever it is it is important enough to have a SOCOP escort until it reaches Slasher territory in Southpoint. The transport is making another run tomorrow The map displays the transports projected route at 0227. Find out what is in that transport, I do not care how. Steal it , find a manifest, or blow the thing up and sift the rubble.” message ends.

Accept/Decline.

Star City Stalker. Priority moderate:

Message from Dr. Destruction begins: ”We have a serial killer operating in Star City. Normally I would not interfere with a harmless hobby but three of the killer’s recent victims were useful to me. Find whoever is doing this and stop them or at least point them at better targets."

Accept/Decline.

Big Fish down. Priority low:

Map shifts to display pre-invasion Richmond VA. The display focuses and highlights the Sun trust bank building at South 9th st and Highway 60.
Message from Dr. Destruction begins: ”The V’sori invasion began with a wave of terror attacks made by deorbiting our own satellites into our cities. An excellent plan as it not only spread terror it also crippled earth communications system. However the V’sori were rather indiscriminate in what they sent down.
Display changes to a picture of a large satellite. This was Big Fish an apparently defunct communications satellite but in fact a very active spy satellite used by Alpha Squadron. Big Fish had a plutonium core for long-term power and judging from the lack of fallout in the area it appears to have landed intact. You will find Big Fish and bring what has survived to me."
"Transport has been arranged with the trawler Lady William. {Mooring address in the Docks given here.} Contact the captain, Mr. Jack Everett, he will be expecting you."

Accept/Decline.

"It's going to take a lot more than sweet talk to get into my bed." The giantess states flatly as she grasps Carl's hand just firmly enough not to break bones. Turning to Imagine, "in the immortal words of one of the last great criminal warlords, 'everything beautiful bleeds'. I will answer to 'Rigor'."
Releasing Carl's hand at Imagine's suggestion of investigating the Vmap, Rigor does so. "As good a step to getting our feet wet as any." She shrugs, seemingly nonchalantly.

Rolling muscles you didn't even know people had, Rigor follows her out the door.

"Yeah, let's take this two AM BS, but for right now, let's shake up the neighborhood."

Re: Investigate neighborhood/take over/scouting. What is the top priority?

If you want to start on the Slashers then the Carl's bodega might be a good place. However hitting the Slashers might get violent and that might make scouting or wandering the hood problematic. Alternatively a Streetwise at +2 vs TN4 will find a random slasher. If you get raises then you find a more important hangout. You do not have to use any raises you happen to roll.

Investigating the hood will take more than a day and will involve Notice/Streetwise/Persuasion rolls to find interesting locals/locales.

As far as the Milk Run route (Did someone press the 'Accept' button on the App?) there are a number of decent ambush points but only one really good one. Washington Ave, under the Garibaldi overpass just before Washington plaza. This is well within Slasher turf, offers cover in a burned tenement just across Washington from the plaza and the transport will have to slow down as the Plaza forces the Avenue to turn.
(The North-South Avenues in Southpoint are named after Political leaders the East-West streets for revolutionaries. Washington was problematic so they gave him an ave and a plaza.)

GM rolling dice:
Group rolls on KN. Battle: 4d4 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 2) = 8 Best 3-2(unskilled) 1

So I suppose the question is are you hitting the Slashers? At the bodega? Somewhere else? If the bodega are you going in gun's blazing, according to what Carl saw there may only be few folks (2-5) there, or a more subtle approach? Perhaps ambushing a lone Slasher Mind-controlling them to find Slasher Central and .....?

Excellent! =)

To all (which is now Carl and Rigor): Guys, sends Imagine as she hits the "Accept" button for the Milk Run mission and goes invisible, flying along a mere 20 feet above the two lovebirds. We don't know how long our biznez with the Slashers will take, so let's go throw our eyeballs at our ambush point. It looks like there's a spot at Wash n' Wash that is just the thing we need. It'll have to slow down a tad, meaning, Rigor, you could just punch it until it dies, and Carl could walk inside it and start touching anyone who wants to shoot back. And by 'touch' I mean 'shoot'.
I wanna hit it in Southside because a) I'd rather take on a slasher guardian force than, um, anything fragging else that the VS's consider an 'escort'. And also it'll be father to walk. And I need my beauty sleep. Hey, it's not easy to be this pretty. ;)
I'm not mega worried about a Slasher escort. I mean, we should look at them and see how many there are, but it's not like they're kill-bots or like that.

Besides, if everything goes well, they'll be working for us by then! Win-win! Go team us!
Do we have a name? We should really have a name? How about 'Imagine's Awesome Team'! You guys like that? I like that. We should do that. Or just IAT for short. I'll order t-shirts.

Let's just give it a quick looky-see then we'll hit the bodega. That's a good place to start. I wouldn't want to start any bigger, because, like my mom always said: 'Before you can hate-murder the big boss man, you gotta mind-rape the little guys.'

What? Didn't your moms always say that too?

Silently, the statuesque woman shoulders past Carl to saunter down the street.

It is a {sunny? cloudy? miserable? What time of year is it?} day in Star City as you walk to Washington and Washington. The neighborhood is bad, but then this is Southpoint and well inside slasher turf. Think US rust belt then add more crowding, then add the invasion and looting.

You gather more than a few stares but rigor tightening her eyebrows or Carl's hand straying towards the bulge in his jacket sends the curious on their way.

The ambush point is largely as described. Large plaza roughly the shape of Nevada. The Garibaldi overpass marks the north border. Washington Ave enters just shy of the NE corner and makes a curve around a rather stylized statue of the first US prez.

Six to ten story tenements in varying conditions and occupancy levels line the other sides of the plaza along with any surface streets as needed.

Doing prep work? Taking a closer, and more obvious, look? Moving on to make life difficult for the local knife wielding maniacs?

Imagine, do you have a plan for this? Or is it just honeybear and me going in guns a'blazing?

Are there any cars along the streets? I'm gonna assume that there is at least one, okay?

to all: Hmmmm. Guns a'blazin' is my normal MO, and it has worked well for us in the past, but I don't think we can really do that now. For starers, we're a bit light on guns. :) I mean, you're better at close-range anyhow, and your Snooky-poo is more of a 'hugger'. If we had a bunch of long-arms, that'd be different.

Rigor, what do you say that, close to the appointed time, you gather up a few cars and dumpsters and just dump them in street?

Then again, no. That's a dumb idea. They might just back up and take a different route.

Carl, how about you steal a car. Could be one nearby, no reason to do more work. Then just park the thing across the street, blocking it, and hang out.

When they come by, the vehicle will stop, and some thugs will get out and yell at you to move.

That's when you 'ghost' out of the car and...Idunno, do your thing.
Rigor, when they start threatening Carl, your honeybunch, you come out from behind the dumpster/alley/building that you're hiding behind and tip the truck over.
That done, just hate-murder everything that's not me or Carl.

I'll be flying cover and generally F'ing up any effort they make at defending themselves.

Sound good? Can we go meet'n'greet some drug dealers now?

Sighing, the statuesque half-breed begins unfolding fingers as she points out flaws or simple observations. "Either of you call me 'honeybun' again and things are going to happen, not pleasant things either."
"Flattering as it is, you also have an inflated idea of my physical strength. I can bench a motorcycle, with a belt & prep, that doesn't mean I can throw one, much less a car. Nothing hurts me. Not the same thing as 'I can lift anything'."
"All that said, throwing our weight around isn't the worst idea I've heard from you today."

"Just how not pleasant are those not pleasant things? You've really piqued my interest! Now, about taking a car, I would suggest about two hours before our planned rendezvous. Enough time to get the car without having to rush, but not enough time to give honest citizens -- cough! -- a chance to complain to the complaints department."

Imagine taps a cute finger on her cute cheek. Not that anyone can see it, but if they could, they'd think it was hella cute.

to all: Ah! I'll make that adjustment. And for the record, no one called you 'honeybun'. HoneyBear, Snooky-poo, possibly Miss Hugs-A-Lot and SexyTush, but never Honeybun.

Alright, we still go with the Carl sitting alone in a car thing. That always works. But Rigor, you just hide (or, try not to be seen) in that alley there, and just come out behind the truck. It tries to back up, just get in it's way and let it not-be-able-to-run-you-over.
You don't have to stop it, just give me enough time to make its driver think he's having a seizure. Or give him an actual seizure, I haven't decided which.

Everyone good? Alright that was quick but necessary. Some might say a Necessary Evil. See what I did there? =)

Carl, let's go to this 'Bodega' of yours and start threatening dangerous men!
