Male Human (Chinese-American)

Strength: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Ace: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Total 7, Success vs. MeMaw

Zhi grunts and grimaces as MeMaw snaps at him, her teeth falling out and trying to break free of his grip. "I'm sorry to do this, grandmother," he mutters, then lets go of the old woman and takes a step back, before snapping his foot forward in a straight kick to her solar plexus.

Fighting: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Wild: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Looks like karate club hasn't helped out yet. (No wonder, since Zhihao practices a form of kung fu.)

Katrina stumbles back when the zombie tries to force its way in, then quickly leaps back at it swinging the lamp like a madwoman. She does her best to smash the base of the lamp into the nearest zombies head. She screams half in fear and half in anger as they begin to try and close the gap and enter the home. "Any chance there's a back door to this place?" She tries again to slam the lamp into the zombie's head. "Or maybe a window we can sneak out of?"

December 26th Update

Both zombie attacks miss, the students able to fend off the grasping of the old and dead.

Catalina shoves the brunt of her weight against the door, the zombie arms trying desperately to break through. There's a *schink!* sound as the door clicks into place in its lock and two zombie arms fall to the floor.
Two of those zoms will have a penalty to fighting since they're now both missing one arm.

James takes another picture, his flash turned up, and blinds another zom. This one stays in place but doesn't seem to move for a while, as it waits for the sensitivity to fade so it can see.

Bryce does his best to slash at the oncoming threats, but he misses.

Buck deftly swings his bat against Jimmy's legs, and he lets out a pained yelp. He looks visually (and mechanically) shaken.

Matthew hurries over to his friends, finding eight zombies clawing at the door, with three of his own zombies closing in on him.

Wu successfully keeps MeMaw under control, shoves her away, but his attempts at a takedown don't go as well as planned, his foot sinking into her chest with the sound of ribs snapping. Though she doesn't seem to notice.

Katrina is thrown back allowing MeMaw's door to open for the zombies outside. She reaches back for a lamp and successfully delivers a blow. However, it doesn't seem to phase the zombie who keeps marching in. There is a window that you can flee out of.

=============================================================
Spending one of my Bennies to make Jimmy unshaken automatically :D

"You shouldn't have nosed around! Guess we're getting some doon to be college dropouts to volunteer for their community! Forever!"

Buck, you're shaken now.

Matthew, you've moved enough that the zombies chasing you haven't caught up yet.

MeMaw wants to give Wu some grandma kisses, with extra biting.

Fighting: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Katrina, you see as a zombie slips on one of the lamp shards and falls on top of you, trying to grab you and hold you down.

Strength: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Roll STR vs 3 or you can't move until you can.

Remember, you have bennies, and don't be afraid to get creative. This session is about experimenting with the system.

I'm having a problem visualizing the trailer - is there only one door, and it's now flooding with zombies coming in? You mentioned a window that we can get out of - are there any other exits?

December 26th Update

Each elder's home has one front door and one side window in the living area. The office also has a large window looking out into the rest of the elder home area.

When the zombie falls toward her, she wrestles her way off of the thing and kicks it once, shoving it away from her. "Hey!" she shouts, struggling against him before she gets away. "Get the f*ck off of me, you crusty old man." Katrina brings the lamp down on the head of the zombie that fell toward her, trying to bash in its skull before she turns and runs toward the window. Buck, you don't actually need to spend a Benny to remove the Shaken condition. You can roll your Spirit in order to act on your turn, all you need is a success. You can also spend a Benny afterward to automatically succeed if you have to.

You also don't use any modifiers to the original roll when you ace on a die and re-roll. While this means you don't add any bonuses, any original penalties are also negated.

December 26th Update

Buck gets himself back in the zone and goes for the ringleader once again. Unfortunately, this time Jimmy is ready and barely deflects Buck's baseball bat attack as it glances off his iron pipe.

Catalina manages to keep the door shut even with a few zombies bearing down on it. She even arms herself with a very *gross* weapon

James gets ready to flee, finding the latch on the window and making sure the cost is clear.

James only Notice Success:

There are two zombies almost to the window. You can attack them better from there since you have a height advantage, but jumping out may be dangerous!

James only Notice Raise:

You notice there's a some larger gardening equipment leaning against the office. Things like hoes, a hose, a weed whacker, etc.

Matthew, you can't get in through the window unless its unlocked from the inside and you climb in (agility) or you break it open.

Bryce moves into position to get ready to leave MeMaw's lovely home.

Katrina successfully brings the lamp down hard enough on teh zombie that it spasms once, and lies motionelss

Catalina, you have a moment as the zombie regroup/recoil to try and slam down the door again.

Zombies are moving toward Matthew, now that he's stationary, they're getting within striking range.

Everyone in MeMaw's trailer is getting by the window to get ready to flee.

Players up!

Rolling Strength in this scenario is a non-action, so no penalties. Although I wrote it out as multiple different strikes from a story perspective, Katrina made a singular Fighting roll against the zombie that attacked her. She then moved up to her Pace toward the window, so she takes no multi-action penalty. Her -1 is from using an Improvised weapon, which also lowers her Parry by 1.

Katrina cringes away from the dead zombie, deciding not to look at the base of her now-ruined lamp. Instead, she starts shouting at James once she gets close to the window. "What're you waiting for? Come on, climb down before we're stuck in here!" She makes a face as she hefts the dripping lamp in the direction of the door, holding it out to keep the encroaching elderly at bay. "Seriously James, this is no time to get distracted. Move!"

December 26th Update

Thanks for the explanation. Still new to the system, but fun so far.

Katrina keeps the dead at bay, perhaps a bit more confident now that one had grey matter dripping from her lamp base.

Matthew pops open the window neatly and has enough room to climb inside should he decide to.

Catalina falls to the ground outside the office next to the heavy duty gardening tools that James is reaching for. He successfully grabs one, a long trowel, that stood almost as tall as him. Catalina then sees why Bryce wasn't so eager to hop out, a small group of shambling zombs moving toward her.

With the window already open, Bryce hops out of MeMaw's place and decidedly into perhaps more trouble.

Gonna take Katrina's advice:

Katrina wrote:

Buck, you can spend a Benny in between attacks, so you could negate being Shaken and only take 1 wound. You could then try and spend your remaining Benny to soak your last wound, although that puts you at 0 bennies (unless the GM allows you to retroactively roll Spirit to unshake instead of spending a Benny). You could also just try to Soak both wounds, if you wanted. Spending one to negate the first Shaken is perhaps the safest bet, as you guarantee you only have one Wound. You could try to tough it out and soak both Wounds, but you only have a d6 vigor so it's unlikely that'll happen and it's not impossible you won't soak any at all, and then be out a Benny for nothing. Thing is, if you roll well you nullify both Wounds for 1 Benny.

Spending benny in between wounds, then another to soak:

December 26th Update

Buck's bat slams into the the pulsing object strung around Jimmy's neck. The force is enough to send him sputtering and coughing. the force is enough to drop it from its chain, and it falls to the gravel and shatters.

All at once, wherever you are, you can see the geriatric zombies begin to fall over, slowly, but surely coming to a dead halt.

Jimmy, recovering his breath, looks down at the broken object and scrambles back to his truck, and desperately starts revving the engine, trying to get it to start.

All zombies have dropped

Human Journalist | Wounds: 0/3 | Bennies: 3/4 | Toughness: 5 | Parry: 4 | Charisma: 0 | Pace: 6

James blinks as the zombies just sort of topple over. "Wait, what just happened?" He quickly pulls out his camera again and takes a couple more pictures. The image of the possibly dead senior citizens will probably be something the cops want to look at.

Bryce, adrenaline pumping from the prospect of having to take on *more* zombies outside, runs up to the nearest dropped zombie, kneels, and stabs it in the chest several times. DM Default - I have some questions for you in Discussion...

December 26th Update

So yeah, had a giant rules SNAFU on my end.

I'm retconning my last post and as the police arrive on scene, Jimmy is still in Buck's arms, tightly held in a headlock.

"Officer! Officer! Help! These college hoodlums have murdered all the old folks here! They aim to kill me too!"

The police seem cautious, but some have placed a hand on their guns. One even has a tazer.

So are all the police located at Jimmy's place? Are there any cop cars near me-maw's trailer (yet)?

As he hears the cop sirens, Zhi's eyes widen and he darts up, quietly looking out the trailer window. Upon seeing them arriving, he makes for the back window and quickly drops out, then begins picking his way through the trailer park in another direction, moving low and quiet. Cops in America might be mostly in it for the right reasons, but old habits die hard, and Zhi isn't looking to find out how honorable these guys are.

"Not only was he abusing them," Katrina says as she follows James, "But they're... well, they don't seem to be breathing to me. All the cops have just arrived. They're approaching cautiously.

"I'm gonna need you all to drop whatever weapons you may be carrying." One officer says to you all. Another approaches James, asking to see his camera.

From here the police spread out and start searching the place. From Katrina's persuasive information, some go to search the office.

====================================================================

It's not long until cuffs are placed on Jimmy, and he's put into the back of the police car. The evidence of Social Security fraud will put him behind bars handily.

As for Brittany, the officers find her passed out from shock in the office, crumpled against the back wall. She doesn't remember much of your frantic fight, but she does corroborate your innocence which gets you some points.

The elders are dead. All dead. However, before you all are released from the scene, you hear the paramedics remark how well preserved the corpses are though most have been dead for months, some longer.

As you drive home, you might Wu walking on the side of the road. Giving him a lift back is your choice.

James is happy to hand over his camera to the cops and let them shift through the pictures, both of the strange old people and the checks. "Dead for months? The hell?" James isn't really sure how far this is going to go, but he's certain that saying they were zombies is probably the wrong way to go about it. He makes sure to get his camera back before they leave. He hops onto the back of his bike, starts it up, and follows the car back into town.

The first thing he does when he gets back to his dorm is saving all of the pictures to his computer and sending the photos to his friends. They definitely need to see just what he's working on. But soon enough he finds himself back at the Pizza Barn with the others again. "Grease, cheesy, and probably terrible for us. Great as always Brit. Can I call you Brit?"

Activist

If the cops showed up at Jimmy's place first, then Bryce will take a moment to wipe the handle of the knife in his hands clean with his shirt-tail, then pulling his shirt sleeve down over his hand, throw the weapon as far away as possible, either in the opposite direction of Jimmy's place, or into the woods, if there are any nearby.

Back at the pizzeria, he says "Pepperoni again? Sheesh!"

After the police leave, Buck will pick up the pieces of the smashed item, using gloves if he has them. He will definitely offer Wu a lift, although the ride might be uncomfortably silent.

AT the pizza joint, Buck says quietly "Jimmy had a piece of hoodoo 'round his neck." he produces a plastic baggy with the broken bits in it. "Didn't figure I'd want to leave it layin' around, even smashed."

His mood seems grim still, and it's clear that the encounter shook him up a bit.

Male Human (Chinese-American)

Zhi gratefully accepts Buck's offer, although the ride is indeed awkwardly quiet to start. The Chinese boy eventually tries to start some small talk, though--"So, did you see the last, uh, Cowpokes game?" followed by a grin--and it serves to open things up a little bit. By the time they get back, Zhihao thanks Buck with a smile and perhaps makes some conversation regarding his bike.

When the group meets up again at the Pizza Barn, Zhi nods at Catalina's comment. "Yeah, it was... Pretty unreal, you know? Like a nightmare." He shakes his head, but piques up at Buck's announcement and the baggy. "Weird. Do you think it had something to do with... them?"

"Them? What the hell are you talking about, Zhi?" Katrina takes another massive bite out of the pizza—with how much she eats, it's surprising she's as thin as she is—before swallowing it nearly whole. "I don't know what it was, but it's not something I want to deal with again."

"I don't know that anyone would have believed it was magic before, James. Unless they showed up when the elderly were trying to, y'know, eat us." Katrina just shrugs, finishing off her pizza and sliding her plate toward the center of the table. "I get what you're saying, though. Hey, at least we didn't get arrested, right? That's something we could—and should—celebrate."
