(Male Human (Keleshite) Sorc (Elem - Fire) 7)

Efreat will look at the auras.
Cast Detect Magic and use spell craft on the two auras: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Focusing on the magical aura on the ground, you detect a faint transmutation aura below the dirt. Focusing on the longsword, you detect a faint enchantment aura.

Pae watches with interest as the casters work out where the items he missed are

Hazreem waves the halfling Paellat over and points to the location of the transmutation aura. This looks like a job for a person of your talents." Hazreem says with a smile on his face.

Okay, pushing the game along...

Hazreem waves over Paellat and points at the location. Pae digs up the dirt and uncovers a ring that was buried there.

Daumari looks eager to leave the mill and to head over to the other building where Felliped indicated a woman lived. He starts heading out of the mill.

The longsword is a +1 magical weapon.

Bahir having finished his prayer bows to Mah'ysa and follows Daumari.

Hazreem will follow along behind as is his customary practice.

(Male Human (Keleshite) Sorc (Elem - Fire) 7)

Efreat falls in line with his jambiya in his hand.

(Female Half-Elven Cleric L6 -- Bard L1)

Mah'ysa smiles at Bahir and says; "That was well said Sir Bahir, thank you." She then follows along with the others as they go to the next building.

Leaving the mill behind you, everyone heads over to the other building across the river. As you near the place, a foul smell hits your senses. A faint flickering light can be seen through the few windows of this large building. Peering inside through the dirty windows, you are able to make out the outlines of six large cauldrons lit from a single burning torch within the room. Stirring one of the cauldrons is a tall woman. It appears as if she has a set of wings are attached to her back. In the background, you can make out other various pieces of equipment, similar to the alchemist equipment you found in the undercrypt of the monastery. There is a large double door just ahead which is currently closed.

Hazreem pales when he sees the wings on the woman's body, A demon lady!, He thinks.

Knowledge Nature, to determine her race. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Yep, definitely a succubus, he he

Bahir's face grows grim again at the sight of the woman with wings and her cauldrons, is this entire place crawling with demons?! He opens up his senses to the evil auras that tend to surround such beings.

Detecting evil in the woman's direction.

Hazreem wrote:

Your human eyes are unable to tell in this very dim light. You can only make out a human-like (medium-sized humanoid) body with the exception of the wings.

Bahir wrote:

She is clearly of an evil alignment.

Hazreem whipers to Bahir, "Do we try talking to her, considering her origins, would anything she says be trustworthy?"

"Isn't anything we meet here likely to be evil? I suppose we could rush into every building and slaughter whatever we meet but that would make us more likely to fall into the same ways I think..to become accustomed to killing without thought would make us as bad as the gnolls"

Hazreem nods at Paellat, "Very well, a tiger, once it acquires the taste of blood, finds it difficult to turn away from more blood. We will talk to her."

Bahir's set face tell it all, "We are not talking about people or creatures that may do something evil now and then we are talking about creatures whose very essence is evil. They are so overwhelmingly infused with demonic power that it shines like a beacon. This is such a creature and I must tell you once again my friends that I will strike it down. It's purpose here is to warp this area to it's will." Looking to Pae, "I do not make these decisions lightly or without cause."

Sardukar:

Spoiler:
Detect Evil detects an evil aura on a creature not just if it has an evil alignment. Bahir made his decision on the antlered demon being evil based off the effects of his smite evil. He should be able to tell the strength of it's aura right away as if he had studied it for 3 rounds with a Detect Evil spell. He can detect evil intentions but I am assuming that he is detecting an aura for her.

Efreat takes the lead. "Greetings! May I have a moment of your time?"
diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

(Female Half-Elven Cleric L6 -- Bard L1)

Mah'ysa lays her hand on Bahir's arm and whispers; "But first we must learn from it what we can; Bide yet a while."

"For you, Radiant One, I stay my blade."

Pae fumes silently at the Paladin mutters something that might just include the words 'Lawful' and 'stupid' and moves up in support off Efreat

After a brief discussion, Efreat opens the double doors and walks in. "Greetings! May I have a moment of your time?". The foul stench that you noticed outside the building becomes almost overpowering as you walk in. Now that you are closer to this woman, you notice in the dim light that her hands, which are stirring the large pot, contain talons instead of fingers. "Well hello there handsome!" she says with a crooked-tooth grin. "What brings all of you to my humble abode at this hour of the night? Did you want to join me for dinner?" As she says this, you notice what appears to be a human shaped foot momentarily break above the surface of the murky liquid in the cauldron that she is stirring. Felliped, still standing in the doorway, looks as if he might be sick.

Bahir:
Sorry, I was just simplifying and wrote that from work where I didn't have any references with me. You detected the presence of an evil aura in the direction you focused. As you continued concentrating on that aura, it quickly became overpowering to the point that you became stunned for a few seconds and you were unable to maintain concentration on the spell. (The source of the aura is at least 4HD)

Bahir's pained expression tells you something is wrong, in a strained whisper, "She is very powerful, be careful. Mah'ysa....are you sure?" His white knuckled hand encompasses the grip of his scimitar.

Hazreem steps behind Bahir, murmering "Easy there, you are not alone in this, have faith."

(Male Human (Keleshite) Sorc (Elem - Fire) 7)

Freezing at the sight of the foot, Efreat starts again, "Well, that's not my fair. Perhaps I could heat it up for you?"
Ready action to fire elemental ray.

As Bahir gets nervous, Efreat continues "Well, that's not my fair. Perhaps I could heat it up for you?" She replies, "Oh, aren't you just a cute one. But it still needs to marinade a little while longer first. And I actually still need to get one last ingredient for my stew. Say, are you folks apart of that group of treasure hunters that showed up a few days ago? You look like sorta like the type." She sets down the wooden stir stick and casually walks in your direction. As she approaches, you catch a whiff of perfume on top of the stench covering the room. She doesn't appear to be making any hostile gestures, but you notice the toes on her bare feet are talons as well.

Hazreem shoots a look of alarm when he hears about the previous treasure hunters. Still she has not proven overtly hostile...yet. He steels himself for anything, while replying to the winged humanoid female, "There have been other treasure hunters here as well, do you know what happened to them?" Sense Motive 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

(Female Half-Elven Cleric L6 -- Bard L1)

Mah'ysa holds on to Bahir's arm, whispering to him; "Timing is important, be ready."

To the creature she speaks aloud; "I see that you live here in a town occupied by Gnolls. Surely you don't work for those barbarians? One such as you should be commanding such animals. And that is a marvelous looking stew. Can you tell us what your missing ingredient is? Perhaps we have seen it in our travels."

Daumari remains silent, watching the exchange from the back of the group. On alert, the ranger lets his fingers brush against the chain of his hammer under his robes.

OOC:
I'll take a stab at recognizing the thing as well. I need to put some ranks in the other Knowledge skills, so I can use them in the future; I like that you have to be trained in a Knowledge skill to use it now. It makes them worth putting points into, and one who does can be a real boon to a party. But sometimes it does leave you wanting.

"Treasure hunters you say? Tell me, did you meet any of them?"

Hazreem: There have been other treasure hunters here as well, do you know what happened to them?
Efreat: Treasure hunters you say? Tell me, did you meet any of them?
Winged Woman: Oh yes, my lover caught them trying to invade his market. I never actually saw them alive, but his minions brought me some of the leftovers.

Mah'ysa: I see that you live here in a town occupied by Gnolls. Surely you don't work for those barbarians? One such as you should be commanding such animals.
Winged Woman: Well aren't you a pretty one to talk about barbarians. And I don't work for any one. My arrangement with the gnolls is strictly one of convenience. I was here several years before the Kulldis tribe moved in. And I expect to be here for many more years after they're gone.

Mah'ysa: And that is a marvelous looking stew. Can you tell us what your missing ingredient is? Perhaps we have seen it in our travels.
Winged Woman: Of course my dear. I need a snake's head to complete it. If you bring me a snake's head for my stew, I'll betray my lover for you. Last time I saw, there was one living in the old slave market across the river.

    Hazreem:
You are unable to detect any deceit in her voice or mannerisms.

    Mah'ysa:

Diplomacy/Sense Motive: You are unable to detect any deceit in her voice or mannerisms.
Perception/Heal: You are unable to make out what all is in the stew as the water is too murky and the light too dim.
Knowledge: You do not recognize this creature.

    Daumari:
You recognize this creature as a Harpy. A savage creature without remorse for its actions. Harpies enjoy parlaying with humanoid creatures that they see as potential meals.

(Male Human (Keleshite) Sorc (Elem - Fire) 7)

"Lover you say? Pray tell, who is Lover?"

"Snakes, why did it have to be snakes" Pae mutters to himself then speaks up "A snake you say...how...big a snake?"

Hazreem keeps quiet after her responses and studies the humanoid female, and sees her as one of the top predators in the ecosystem in this village. If she is asking for assistance in slaying a snake, he was pretty sure this snake was no tiny coral snake, but something a bit more...predatory. The remark about her 'lover' was certainly interesting to him, although, more likely this "lover" was simply another predator in this natural system.

Efreat: Lover you say? Pray tell, who is Lover?
Winged Woman: My Lover? Oh, that would be Kardswann. He leads the Kulldis tride here, even though he isn't a gnoll himself. He arrived a few years after the gnolls and slaughtered the tribe's chieftain in a single blow and assumed his role. He is a very powerful and cruel man. I've made sure to stay in his good graces for my own purposes. But I'd love to see him gone and I could help you out if you're interested.

    Paellat: A snake you say...how...big a snake?
Winged Woman: It's no garden rattler, if that's what you're asking. And watch out for that bite, it's a killer!

    Efreat:
You recognize the name Kardswann from that book you've been reading which you found in the monastery, the one titled "Courts of Stone and Flame". He was one of the Templars of the Five Winds.

    "Snakes, I love snakes..."

(Male Human (Keleshite) Sorc (Elem - Fire) 7)

"Kardswann? THE Kardswann? What could you do to help us?"

She approaches Efreat, getting seductively close and smelling him. As she traces a talon-like fingernail across Efreat's cheek, she says, "Why yes, my dear, he is. He wasn't that bad until he walked through the magically sealed door under the church about two months ago. Now he is clearly under the control something truly evil." She lifts Efreat's chin and looks at him directly in his eyes. "He is cruel to me. I want you to kill him." She then walks away from Efreat and continues, "If you bring me the head of that snake and promise that I can freely live here after the gnolls are gone, I can help you out. I have a set of keys that I can give you. One opens the north door of the battle market. The other opens a hallway inside. There are also smugglers currently visiting the battle market who only have a tenuous allegiance to Kardswann. I can bribe them to sit out when you attack, as long as you promise to spare their lives as well." She picks back up her wooden stir stick and begins stirring her stew again. She turns back to you with a wicked smile and says, "And I won't tell Kardswann that you were here."

Hazreem hides his revulsion as the creature mimes a lover's caress with Efreat. He speaks up, "You say he has been taken control of by an evil force. Do you have any evidence of this? Could this be related to these smugglers?" He glances at Bahir and Mah'ysa, before continuing, "We could certainly handle this snake that is bothering you, but more is beyond my authority to provide you."

Turning to Hazreem, she says, "His cruel actions towards me and those under his control is more than enough evidence! It was a night and day difference compared with how he was before. And that battle market has been open for business since Kardswann took over for those willing to come here. Those smugglers are just here to sell their wares."

Bahir holds himself ready to spring, awaiting Mah'ysa's signal.

(Male Human (Keleshite) Sorc (Elem - Fire) 7)

"What you ask is beyond our power to grant. All I can promise you is that we will plead your case to our master when the time comes." diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Turning back to Efreat, she says with a suggestive smile, "I'm confident that a man of your caliber will plead a most heartfelt case on my behalf. Now go and fetch me that snake's head."

Hazreem sees the holy warrior tensing for action, and decides to take a more proactive approach. "So, uhh Miss, where do you think this snake makes its lair?"

With a look of impatience while tending her stew, "As I've already mentioned, there was a large viper residing in the old Slave Market across the river the last time I checked. I just need its head."

Very well, we shall return shortly."

Bahir follows the others out (assuming Mah'ysa didn't tell him to attack). Once out of earshot of the demoness, "I will not be a party to working for the demon if that's what you have in mind. However, I am also not against resting and regaining our strength before facing the vile creature. We should also get Felliped to safety in case she proves too powerful and we fall. Sarenrae willing that shall not be the case." He says this last as if it is the most normal thing in the world to sacrifice oneself fighting great evils.

Hazreem replies to the holy warriors diatribe, "I certainly hold your sentiments, Servant of the Flame. However to not learn as much about the territory we are scouting is foolhardy." He then turns to the other companions, "I believe there is something she is not telling us about this predator she wishes us to get rid of. What say you?"

Still not certain I'm still required here but just in case...

ALmost assuredly she isn't telling us everything..why should she..the snake kills us she doesn't lose anything, we kill the snake she gains..

    (Female Half-Elven Cleric L6 -- Bard L1)

    After listening to the knight...
"Yes, you are right. This has been on my mind as well. Leaving this creature for later does not mean we are bound by any agreements.
"I am curious as to why she wants this snake dead also. Perhaps we should do the opposite."
