Efreat: Wouldn't enhancing the existing +1 Cloak of Resistance to a +2 Cloak of Resistance only take 3 days to complete? The difference in market price is 3000 gp and it is only 1 day per 1000 gp.

The "Adding new abilities" section starts off with "Sometimes, lack of funds or time..." implying time is reduced as well. Though the rules never talk about time after that, only cost.

I'll assume 3 days.

(Male Human (Keleshite) Sorc (Elem - Fire) 7)

The cloak taing 3 days sounds right to me. I forgot about that.
As far as Haleen, I'll enchant her armor to +1 when I get the chance.
Should I reduce my gold and change my equipment now or wait?

I'll adjust it all as we go along. Things may happen... :)

Pae: Wouldn't +2 Studded Leather go for 4175 gp instead of 2175? Magical armor of +2 has a base price of 4000.

My bad..in that case forget buying a magical scorpion whip(silly weapon anyway) just make it Masterwork and use the 2000 saved to add to the armour

1063 less 48 for the papers and 150 for the ladies passage leaves me with
855 gp

Less one night at the inn for 4 off us leaves 815 give the girls 200 gold each as seed money (Given as 50Pp 100Gp and Crystal is in charge of it)

Pae has 215 gold left(20 Pp and 5 Gp)

Forgot to update the list on my profile last night. I update it off line and cut and paste into the profile and forgot to do that last part. Now updated.

Pae, don't forget that bag of platinum pieces. That's an extra 1000. (I should probably just merge that in with the rest of the GP count.)

I already did..

Slow for the holidays?

Sounds like it...I am still here though.

(Male Human (Keleshite) Sorc (Elem - Fire) 7)

I'm here but Efreat is kind of tied up with his crafting.

I can try and fast forward a little bit if there is waning interest.

Slow for the holidays, as well as planning how exactly I'm going to move to Minnesota once the holidays are done.

My interest is waning somewhat as well. It seems as if we're spending a lot of time on things that are generally viewed as character upkeep.

I was taking the advise in the AP module itself to roleplay out as much of the interactions within the city of Katapesh as possible. There is a lot going on in this city and the players should get a good feel of the vastness and chaos that is the markets of Katapesh. It is setting the stage for encounters that are yet to come.

But I think that has already been conveyed and I can move forward with more of the meat, fast-forwarding to AP-specific events.

I concur..I think we have a sense of the city and how it works....All Pae needs to do now is pick up his rapier and he's set.

Sorry for the delay. We are experiencing technical difficulties.

My cable is out at home and has been for a couple of days. Something about someone cutting a fiber-optic cable. And since the cable company is providing my internet access, I haven't been able to get online at home to post. I can get on at work, but don't have time then. I'll cut and paste the current game thread and work offline tonight if it is still out. Then I can at least paste it back in when I'm at work tomorrow.

My wife is going through facebook withdrawals. And no, I don't have internet access on my phone. Though I have been looking at getting an Android. Maybe this is a sign...

Sorry for not being around. The holidays combined with planning for the move has sapped my time pretty thoroughly. I should be getting things normalized again after the new year, if not before.

At least, until I actually load everything in my truck and head east. Three days of travel, and hopefully I'll be able to get settled quickly.

I'm flying to India again tomorrow, so won't have access for a day or two as I travel. I probably won't get a chance to post until I land, crash at the hotel, and get back up on Saturday.

Gotta go pack...

(Male Human (Keleshite) Sorc (Elem - Fire) 7)

I will be away until Monday myself.

Same; I'll be leaving Saturday morning, and getting back late Sunday.

Figured I should checking in, before too much time had passed. I'm now in the process of moving to St. Paul; I don't know when I'll have regular internet access again, but I'll let you know when I get settled.

Happy moving! We'll try not to kill your character in the meantime. :)

(Male Human (Keleshite) Sorc (Elem - Fire) 7)

Good luck with the move.

I am leaving in a few hours to head to the airport to fly back to the western hemisphere. I'll be offline for a couple of days.

Have a safe flight. I'll PCDM for ya ;D

(Male Human (Keleshite) Sorc (Elem - Fire) 7)

Have a good flight.

I have an opportunity to sit at a computer again while I wait for the snow to stop, so I thought I should post an update.

I arrived in St. Paul yesterday and have set about the task of finding a place to live. I've got a very promising lead, and unless something unforeseen happens I should be moved in by next week. I'll arrange internet access at that point, and hope to return to the game shortly.

Good luck and good hunting Daumari.

I'm back, newly settled into an amazing apartment. I'm also happy to report I've managed to scrounge up a good internet connection. All that's left is to get caught up on nearly 100 posts and jump back in; you've been busy while I was away.

I'll be away for the weekend at a wargames show in York..back on Monday Morning my time

(Male Human (Keleshite) Sorc (Elem - Fire) 7)

I'll be away until Tuesday on business. Please DMPC Efreat as needed.

I'm sorry for my absence. I had a big homework assignment and tried to pull an all-niter to get it taken care of, only to realize that sometime in the past six years I got old; I used to be able to handle that sort of thing with only minor difficulty, but all that happened this time was I ended up falling extremely ill.

The good news is I managed to get the assignment done. The paper ended up being a steaming pile, but the presentation went well. I'm getting good rest now and am on the mend. I'll get caught up on the game tomorrow.

Yup age comes to all off us..

Does it sneak up on everyone, as well? My grandparents are old. My parents are old. I didn't consider myself old until this laid me flat.

I'm going to go shopping for canes later this afternoon. I need something to wave at the kids on my lawn.

And everytime you think you are finally old, something else happens to make you realize you weren't old yet. Then you are old, until the next incident to make you realize you weren't. And when you stop remembering your age without calculating it and only remember which decade of oldness you are in (e.g. 30's, 40's)...

Oh what a gloriously dim future awaits. Glad I didn't need to be cheered up today. :P

Though I am a half-elf of few words, and even fewer still after I've cast silence, I know how to make a statement. Those statements usually involve me making strategies up on the fly and getting myself into once pickle after another, but no one's perfect.

:P

Sardaukar,

Since you mentioned you lost your long post I wanted to mention something here. I am not sure if you have access to Firefox or Chrome at your work, but there is a plugin for those two browsers called Lazarus which basically saves your web form in case Paizo eats your post, or you mess up in some way. Unfortunately IE doesn't have anything like that :(.

I'm using Firefox. Out of habit I do a Ctrl-A / Ctrl-C (Select All/Copy) before hitting Preview or Submit on any web form. And if it is unusually long, I copy and paste into notepad and save periodically as I work. Generally if I lose it, I have something recent in the copy buffer. But this time I was distracted by an IM and I did a cut and paste on something in the IM before coming back to Paizo. Then I was going to made one last change after proof-reading and thought my cursor was there and hit backspace. Backspace in Firefox, when not focused on a text box, is the same at Alt-<-.

I'll have to look into this Lazarus plugin. Thanks.

Lazarus installed. We'll see how well this thing works.

Pulling it over here since it doesn't matter anymore, Efreat opened the door (though he used his last 3rd level spell in the process).

Looking over the rules for breaking and smashing inanimate objects under Additional Rules, it doesn't really seem that clear as to how breaking down a door would work. There is plenty on breaking objects, like swords and shields, but not doors. They only list doors under the table with Break DCs. If smashing, then the DC is 11 + Size - 6 (for inanimate). What is the Size for a door? I'd assume small and medium are referring to small and medium weapons. Would a door be Huge? And is it +5 for Hold Portal? And it looks like a Sunder Combat Maneuver, not attack or strength. Plus auto-hit on full round attacks with Melee weapons.

But looking at the Smash Combat Feat, it explicitly states it gives a +5 to strength checks to smash objects.

If its a sunder, Mah'ysa's Ape would have a +5. Strength check +2. Or Attack +3. Either way would hit with the -6 to AC penalty and the size penalty. So the extra point of damage would occur. But the broken door opens as Efreat removes the magical lock. And a 10 foot x 10 foot ape stands in the doorway.

Missed your response here until today. Yeah, it could definitely be clearer in the explanation on when to use break DC and when strength check is appropriate. Hadn't even considered size as a factor but I think it makes sense (unless your breaking part of something larger? Hmmm).

That and DAUMARI WHERE ARE YOU?! I'm dying (hopefully not literally) to know what happens :)

It does say that you use the break Dc if the character tries to break an object with sudden force.Otherwise the normal rules apply the door having hardness 5 and 20hp.

I've always ruled that hitting a door is automatic.

just my tuppence worth.

Tomorrow morning I'm catching a flight to New York for work. I'll be there through Friday and will have only limited Internet access, mainly late at night at the hotel. When I fly back on Friday, I will have no Internet Access as I close on both my new and old homes on Monday and everything will be packed. I won't be back online until sometime on Wednesday when the new cable connection is hooked up.

So in other words, things will be slow or stopped until next week Wednesday.

Just as an aside that effects nothing, I only added +2 for the bull's strength. I have a +2 for my normal strength giving me a total of +4 for strength added together. You do have my position completely correct however Sardaukar.

Ok. I generally trust people's numbers as I don't have time to verify everything, but like to periodically spot check values every now and then. Especially when they seem off or unusually high. And my calculations are not always right.

I completely understand. I mess up all the time and appreciate people double checking if things that I am doing seem wonky.

I hope everything is ok for Daumari, he hasn't posted anywhere on the boards in awhile. My guess is he may be getting tied up with school. Hope we don't lose him.

I wish it were just school. Between family issues, a bout of depression, a little insomnia, finals, and getting very freaked out by the weather (I've never experienced anything like these midwest storms), I've lost track of quite a few things lately. I'm still struggling with getting acclimated to the general Twin Cities area as well.

With my current situation in mind I'm afraid I'm going to have to take a break from play by post games in general. At least, I need to formally state this; I'm ashamed to admit I haven't even found/made the time to visit the Paizo boards in a few weeks. Unfortunately I just have a lot of things to do at the moment, and as much as I've been enjoying these games, and this game in particular (we've been at this for so long now), I have to drop them to the bottom of my priority list for the moment.

I apologize for any inconveniences this might cause. I wish I could simply request a leave, but I have no idea how long it will be before I can devote some time to PbP games again. I wish you all the best. Thank you for having me along.

EDIT I just realized we started this group a full three years ago. Now I really hate to resign from the game; it feels like I betraying everyone, myself included. I don't expect you to wait for me, but at the very least I hope to follow the campaign's progress when I'm able to devote more time to these boards; I'm really gong to hate myself if that's only a few weeks from now. I really hope I'm doing the right thing, and not letting the depression and fatigue speak for me.

Sorry to hear about your troubles mate. You'll be missed.

To the Others...

I'm not sure we want to find a replacement player at this juncture as we work well as a team and a new player might upset the mix..I'm prepared to go with 5 once Sardaukar finds a way to write Daumari out.

Wish you the best with everything going on. For the rest of book 3, which you are nearing the end of, you'll simply be NPC'd. There won't be a good avenue for removing Daumari from the campaign until the end of this book. But I could permanently remove your character at this point, or have him continue on and try to find ways to have him go off on his own, though it will be hard to do given the AP.

Actually, no, I have an idea. I could get him back in during book four, but it would become nearly impossible for book five. But easier again for book six.
