Round 3: Even as the gore from the smaller spider explodes up from its ruined body, Silent is turning to rush its larger counterpart. Golden eyes glow with an almost animal ferocity as he closes the distance, ending with a wicked vertical slash of his sword.

Gylwinth is out of town so I'm going to have his act. It isn't necessary at this point. Between all of you, THE BIG SPIDER DIES IN ROUND 3 YAY! AND MAC IS ALSO DYING YA....oh sorry. By the way Mac you did stabilize but are poisoned. You take 1d3 con damage.

After dropping Mac, the spider then faces the vicious volley of his angered comrades. The spider is overwhelmed and slain. You are all victorious. Mac seems to be showing symptoms similar to the halfling Levi. You know how to make the antidote but a simple heal check of 15 will help him enough to pass his fort save to resist the poison.

The jungle is quiet. No sign of any other spiders. What do you do now?

Tam takes the death of the spider as an excuse to run over to the unconscious halfling to grab his crossbow. He looks around nervously, then sees the dying Mac. He rummages in his pack, pulls out one of the vials he brought and runs to Mac's side. He pops the cork and pours it into the man's mouth.

Seeing as how Joe was able to stabilize on his own, I will allow it. Good news, Joe is conscious, standing, and no longer poisoned.

M Human Fighter 4(Two-handed) (AC 17; Hp's 44/49)

1d3 ⇒ 2

Joe comes around and feels like he's been run over by a stampede of cattle. Opening his eyes, he sees Tam and Nye around him. "Dang. What happened fellas? I remember the big nasty critter bite me, and then everything went black. I ain't dead, am I?" He asks them just to be sure.

The young man pulls his blade free of the spider's hide, remaining in a low combat stance while the others look to the tall fighting-man. He spends a few minutes looking at the spiders before he makes his way over to Tam - still frantically working on Mac. He pulls the little guy away, trying to calm him down.

Finally he puts up his blade after wiping it off with a handful of grass, watching the strange bird-man try to climb as he goes to find Eltumal.

Sign Langauge:
"We may want to do some searching in this area. If these two were the only spiders, we may have just knocked off the top hunters in the area. We can use their territory fora camp ground for a while… if that's all of them. I'm not sure I want to run into many more of those, though. We need to get some food before long. I'll take a look around for food and see if I can determine if there are more spiders."

Then he pulls off his pack, setting it down next to the donkeys. After working his shoulders to loosen them after carrying the weight, he picks up his blade and waits to see if anyone else wants to join him in his search and hunt.

You investigate the spiders lair. There are many pods with remnants of the sliders victims. There are only six pods that seem intact. Fresh even. Also you don't find any more spiders.

knowledge nature for the spiders:

You also know that black widows are solo creatures. The only other spiders that would be present with a black widow are either the male or babies. Not both. There are either a male, or babies. The smaller spider that attacked you was defiantly a male.

Joe stands up, seeing the giant dead spider. "Thanks fellas. I appreciate you not letting my become critter food." He tells Tam and Nye. "Here Tam, take this." He scrounges in his backpack and retrieves one of his own healing potions. "That'll replace the one you used from your own pack. Now, I won't take no for an answer! You may need it to give to me next time." He says with a wry grin and a pat on the arm. Taking another one out, he drinks it down to help ease a little more of the pain.

ClW potion: (I believe these potions are a 1d8 + 1, correct?) 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

"Man, that sure hit the spot!" He says tossing the empty bottle back in his pack. With that out of the way, he then recalls the woman they were trying to rescue. "Any luck on spotting that woman?" He asks anyone who might have an answer. "I sure hope we ain't too late."

Perception: To find woman: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Walking over to where Eltumal is, "We need to check these pods then. She could be trapped in there. Either that or it's baby spiders. The way I figure, we ain't got no choice but to check. Any idea on how would should go 'bout this, or do we just open 'em on up? Carefully, o' course." He asks.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

For anyone trying to find the woman or even more spiders. There are no signs of any. Though Joe and Eltumal have found six fresh "humanoid shaped" spider pods. This is in the thick of the spider's lair. Webbing is everywhere. Escape artist checks of 15 will allow you to move freely and unhindered. Otherwise your stuck in the webbing and take -2 to all checks and are not allowed to take ten until free. Your allowed new attempts when I permit it. I'll let you know.

It is up to you the players how you want to examine these six pods and open them. Get creative.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

Climbing down from his arboreal perch, Jivaji confesses his inability to locate the woman. Expressing his consent and desire to inspect the pods, he attempts to enter the lair.
Escape Artist1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
For some reason, Jivaji just can't seem to avoid this thick, obstructive webbing. It doesn't take long before he's almost completely coated in the stuff, likening him to the mummified pods he is inspecting.
Perception 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 8 - 2 = 18

M Human Fighter 4(Two-handed) (AC 17; Hp's 44/49)

Joe goes and retrieves his scythe, folding the blade back into its handle. He then pulls out his war razor, hoping that might be of use in opening up these pods. Seeing Jivaji get caught up, "Dangit! You want me to see if I can get you out of there, Jivaji? I got some rope I can throw you if need be. Or do you want to see if you can get to those pods? Don't think they're no more critters around." Joe knowing he isn't the most dexterous, is a bit leery of entering the spider's nest. "I don't think I ought to get on in there, but we really need to get to them pods. I'm just know dadgum good and well I'm gonna get stuck like you, buddy." He looks around, seeing if there is another way to get to them. "Alright fellas, we can either all get stuck in a big mess like our buddy Jivaji, or maybe someone has an easier way to get those pods. Any ideas?" He asks, hoping there is.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

"Actually, yes," Jivaji pauses to pulls a clump of webbing out of his mouth "send down the rope. I will just cut the pods, tie them up, and you can all drag them out. Don't worry about ...pleh! ...about me."

M Human Fighter 4(Two-handed) (AC 17; Hp's 44/49)

"You got it, buddy." Joe puts his knife up and ties one end of the rope off, as he then throws the rest toward Jivaji. "Heads up!" He warns.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

Jivaji pokes the pods to see if they're moving. If they seem to be moving like a person, or making sounds like a person, he'll try to cut them out with the sword, going between arms and legs. If they AREN'T making noise like a person or moving like a person, Jivaji is going to cut the pod free of the webbing, tie the rope around whatever looks like it will hold, and yell for the pod to come up.

He will poke them all before doing anything else, and the order of precedence goes like so:
1. seems like a person: cut it out and send it up the rope.
2. doesn't move: dislodge it and send it up
3. moves but not sure if it's a person: dislodge it, climb up the rope, then pull it up.

Some rolls that I hope will speed things along for everyone, if needed :)

Is Silent back from scouting/hunting at this point? It usually takes at least an hour to do that, right? And by the book, he should have caught enough food to feed himself and two others for the day. :)

Also, if he's not already, Silent would definitely volunteer for a watch shift..

DM Shanosuke:
He'd be extra interested in taking a watch shift any night there is a full moon (well, as much as he could tell under the jungle canopy). During this time, if he can, he'll let the beast out to stretch its legs for a bit... making sure that no one is close enough to see the transformation. Though I guess there is the danger that someone would see the large wolf ghosting around their camp if they woke up at the right/wrong time. :)

Both Martian Level 20 invader

@Silent:Are you going to help Jivaji and Joe recover the pods? It is still a little early to gather food for the night. But I will accept your scores and say you can feed three others for the night. I will discuss the other questions you asked when relevant. There are no more spiders :)

@Jivaji and Joe Poking the pods will do no good as the contents are either dead or unconscious. The spider's venom is lethal but it also causes paralysis and unconsciousness.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

I will help Joe pull out any pods/Jivaji when need be.

Silent wanders over to where the three struggle with the spider pods and asks how he can help.

Not sure what makes the most sense, but if a second person needs to go down/up with Jivaji, Silent will go. I'd suggest Mac go (since he has the best climb mod., but I'm guessing he's had enough close spider fun for one day. :D)

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Escape artist checks are required to move in and around the webbing, all other skills checks are impair by a -2 unless you pass all the escape artist checks. Fail to many checks, and your stuck but good.

The Escape Artist Check is 15 and Jivaji needs to make a second one.

Can I grapple the webbing? :)
Escape Artist 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5.

M Human Fighter 4(Two-handed) (AC 17; Hp's 44/49)

Yeah, I wish I could use climb! Sadly, my escape artist is all of a 1. :p

Seeing Silent move up next to him, and then attempt to help Jivaji with the search of the spider's lair, "Well dang! Now there's two of ya stuck! Alright, it's no problem, we still got rope. Um, hey Jivaji, can you get close enough to see what them dang pod things are made of? Heck, or even you Silent fella. Maybe there's a chance of either one o' you being able to tear 'em open real careful like." He suggests. He then turns to Eltumal, "I ain't too sure what else we can do, buddy." He scratches the back of his head, and shrugs.

Is it possible for Silent or Jivaji to tie the rope around the pods and for me and Eltumal to pull them out? That is, of course, if they ever get to move. :)

the young man begins to get frustrated at the impeding webbing. He turns back towards Eltumal.

He then looks to Silent and Jivaji, "Don't worry fellas, we won't burn it with y'all in there!" He says with a smile and a wink.

Is this particular spider's nest in the trees, or is it in the ground? I was thinking about digging a fire break around it, and then slowly burning the webs, probably with an improvised torch of sorts.

Yes they can, cause I said so :)

Oh and Black widows are a ground spider, this nest is firmly on the ground. To best describe it, it is not your typical spiral, rather just a big mess of webbing all over the trees and along the forest floor. Does that help?

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Just noticed the second part of your post, the forums are acting up. It helps, but I wouldn't be able to just dig fire breaks to stop a fire, would I? If I were to start burning this web, would it burn long enough on the trees that they would catch fire? The only reason I'm even bothering to ask that question is because this is a jungle, and jungles are often very humid.

Yes the jungle is humid. To much damp foliage and trees to worry about them catching fire easily. Technically, the web will burn up so fast that the fire wont catch much else.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Perfect. That was exactly what I was figuring, I just didn't want to assume, and then have it backfire (no pun intended).

"Well, Mac, once they get out of there, bringing any pods they can with them, we should be fine to burn the rest of it. It's far too damp for any of the foliage around here to ignite, so we should be fine. The only thing I'm worried about is the possibility of attracting other predators."

Gylwinth has kept silent during the discussion. He's curious about the pods, but doesn't wish to be set up for more danger.

"Fire will do it, but it might kill whatever's still alive in the pods... Acid might work better, as it's progression will be easier to control. Tam, I saw you using acid during the ambush. Could you give it a try? I could also summon a horse. Together with the other beasts of burden, they might just have enough strength to break the nest."
