The chest is a merchant's register where they store their funds for trade. Inside you find the following:
21 Platnium Pieces
162 Gold Pieces
308 Silver pieces
529 Copper pieces
3 Gold Rings, 1 Ruby, 3 Garnets, 3 Amethysts, 2 Gold Necklaces.
Away Party:
You manage to avoid the encounter.
You all return to the village for the evening.....unless I overlooked something.
Were Silent and Jivaji at all successful in finding any small woodland critters on our brief stint? If not it's fine and we'll be checking traps in the morning.
As the "away group" finally makes their way back to camp, "Hey there fellas! Good to see y'all made it back. I'm 'fraid Tam here an' myself didn't learn a whole heckuva lot. Well, except for the fact that there ain't never been a dino or an undead move through this little ol' village. That's what the people done told us anyhow."
Traps are set. Hunting finds a few food stuffs for a total of 7 rations.
Jivaji, if Silent takes you to where the hidden trail was, you will find the daughters and dad's trail.
Also you guys find a Pachysephiasaurus. (Totally butchered spelling)
So other than us having foodstuffs equivalent to 7 days rations, i'm not sure what new we learned. Silent already knew the trail was there, but we didn't learn anything new about where it went?
The only thing I can see that we've revealed is that there are in fact dinos and undead here, and the people of the village say there haven't been any of either inside the village.
Listening to Joe's report as he settles in to his watch, Jivaji nods his head.
"I wonder if it has anything to do with those statues. We should find out if the villagers know anything about them."
"Statues?" Joe scratches the stubble on his chin. "I don't recollect seein' any o' those." He thinks a moment to see if he recalls such. "'Course, it coulda been 'cause I was too busy yappin'. I tend to do that sometimes."
"I don't know anything about the statues, or what they might be, but if they're doing this, they work. People were pretty clear about that: this is a safe place."
Very well, you move on to the next day and are now fully rested and spells fully restored. You take the time necessary to select magics for the day.
The town is quiet and peaceful. People are carrying on about their routines as though they weren't in the middle of a prehistoric zombie infested forest.
You guys will easily take note that the guard was signifigantly light considering the possibilities. If fact, the guards seem more interested in making sure everyone in the town is behaving rather than keeping an eye out for intruder.
"You know, fellas, this little town shor' don't seem worried 'bout much 'round here. Don't that seem strange to y'all? You know, considerin' all that's out here?"
Joe shrugs. "I ain't for sure. I guess so. Maybe sumptin's protectin' 'em, that we don't know 'bout. I think I ought to ask ol' Ofal 'bout it. He ought to know sumptin'. Any o' you fellas wanna come on along, let's go." Joe then makes his way, along with anybody else who decides to go, over to speak to Ofal to inquire about the statues, and why the town acts like it has nothing to fear.
Ofal can be found at his wagon. When you approach he greets you warmly. "How was your stay. I hope it was comfortable. Your little friend helped out a good deal with his carpentry skills. Is there anything I can do for you.
@Eltumal: I will tell you about da items you found tomorrow night
The hunter training in Jivaji will cause him to check his traps first thing in the morning. Whether that's resolved before or after the conversation with Ofal doesn't matter.
While talking to Ofal "Well, there is one thing we are curious about. It seems that your village lives not at all in fear of the terrors of this jungle. In fact we see no evidence of dinosaur attacks whatsoever. Why is that?"
Edit to add some dice rolls
Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Sense Motive 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Yeah, Mr. Ofal. We were kinda curious 'bout that." Joe scratches the back of his head. "It seems kinda strange being all out here in the middle o' nowhere and ain't afraid of nothin'. Especially with all the dinos and the walking dead folk that's around. It's ... well ... kinda strange is all. Not really sure what else to call it." He shrugs.
Olaf smiles "Oh well you see we haven't had any problems with this spot for years, a couple of decades even. This spot must have something that the wilds of these jungles don't want to get near. Most people have just grown used to it so we don't really worry about it anymore."
Jivaji:
He's holding something back. You can tell by his reaction that there is more to this story than he told you.
"Hm. Well alright, I guess. That's all we was wonderin'. And you're right about that, Eltumal. It must be mighty nice not to have to worry 'bout such." Taking a deep breath, "Well fellas, are we gonna try and hunt down that fella and his daughters? See what happen to them? That was what we talked about doing, right?"
Jivaji closes his eyes and nods. He places his hands behind his back, covertly signing one word as he shifts them into place.
Sleight of Hand 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

Doubt
"Why, my new friend, if what you say is true, you have a veritable utopia here! No army would be foolish enough to threaten you, and you are practically free from harm. You are free to live a simple, yet challenging life here in this jungle. Why on earth would those poor girls run off? I can't seem to make sense of it at all!"
Ofal shrugs. "The village does not provide food. The risk we have to take is in hunting and foraging. The girls likely left the village to forage for berries and the like. As a result, I believe they had simply just been attacked and dragged off. It is unfortunately but it happens.
Jivaji:
He seems just a little uncomfortable but seems to relax as he continues explaining.
On a different note you manage to trap a few animals and critters, I will need a survival check to harvest anything from them. Also, one of your snares nabs a zombie, we can deal with that after your done with Ofal.
Tam:
You are teased a bit about your height and weather or not you will be useful but you can make a craft carptentry check for rewards inspite of the peanut gallery.
Ah #$%$! I completely forgot. Ok to make up for forgetting I will tell you what they are.
Now I only found two unidentified items in your "Swag Wagon" if I am missing any let me know.
Cloak of Resistance +1
And a +1 Longsword
Now I am sure I remember to tell Jivaji what was in the chest. Beyond that, is there anything else I forgot? Heven forbid.
"That's pretty interstin' stuff. One of you fellas go on and take 'em. Ol' Joe's good." He gives them a thumbs up just before he leaves to go speak with Ofal.
Currently
Joe just shakes his head in dissapointment. Turning to the others, "Well fellas, we still gonna give it a shot into lookin' for these folks? I'd shor' like too."
I'm ready to go look for them. Unless anyone else wants it, I'll take that sword. Hopefully, I won't have to use it, but it'll be better than the one I've got right now.
Eltumal will, provided nobody wants it, take the +1 longsword, and leave his Masterwork longsword in it's place.
That's cool with me. Intially it was meant for the assist but I got no problem switching it to the main roll. However you wish to roll with it, is all good to me. :)
I've been checking the thread every day. Didn't realize we were waiting on me. But then I've been a bit preoccupied with a massive job-hunt campaign.
Jivaji follows up later after taking care of business in town. He finds the group outside of town, impressed that Joe has already found the tracks of the man and his girls.
"Well then, well done Joe. Let us be on our way and find out what we can."
As the group begins walking, Jivaji makes sure everyone is out of earshot of the village, and says "So I think it's pretty obvious, but I'm certain that Ofal is hiding something about this town. I'll bet he knows why it is unaffected by the dinosaurs. I question if it has to do with this disappearance or not. I also question if it has to do with those statues. Hmm..."
Joe smiles real big. "Well sometimes I even surprise myself! Let's see where this takes us, huh fellas?" He says as he takes to following whatever sign it was he picked up on.
Okay Silent is busy so we will go with Joe.
Since Joe knows where to look he is easily able to find the trail. You follow it due west for about a good 5 hours.
