Heck Yes. ENlarge Person pot's would be sweet! :D

Silent continues his poking around, and it becomes evident that he's looking for something specific, and he's leading with his nose.

Sign Language:
"I'm trying to find something that belonged to the dad and the daughters. The tracking will go significantly easier if I can catch their scent on the trail."

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Silent:

Lots of that. You have cloths. Obvious gender differences. Raylof has a stronger sscent but the most peculiar is the stench of death and blood. Especially from one of the girls beds and a certain few articles of girls clothing. Knowledge religion will reveal more.

M Human Fighter 1

"Yeah, I guess you're right, Jivaji. Being gone for so long already seems like their chances are pretty dang slim." He rubs his chin. "I like the idea of the quiet fella there seein' if he might be able to locate 'em. That works for me."

Shano:
Not trained in Knowledge: Religion, but if the DC's low enough… 1d20 ⇒ 1.

how long ago did the man leave?

Silent continues on his intentional circuit, grabbing odd items, sniffing them, and discarding all but a few. Once finished -- and once the group is alone -- Silent turns back to everyone, holding up some girls' clothes and hovering near one of the beds.

Sign langauge:
"I have some scents. What I think is the man's scent is everywhere. And strong. There are a few scents of what I assume are his daughters. There's also the smell of a lot of blood. And death. Mostly around this bed. And on these clothes."

He holds up a few small items of clothing to demonstrate.

Sign language:
"So if the girls were taken here, it might have been done violently. Or the blood is their abductor's. I can try to track the scent out of town unless someone has any immediate ideas."

Male Elf Alchemist 2

You tell me you want potions, and help me get the materials, and I'll be happy to help.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

D'oh! I forgot! MW Thieves tools add another +2 to the checks. Making my 'Take 20' attempt a solid 30. If that doesn't succeed, Jivaji will reluctantly put the chest away to try again later.

"For the benefit of those who did not follow Silent's charades, he's found the scent of Raylof and perhaps his girls. Also a lot of blood. Perhaps over the next couple of days, we can try to find out more about what went down."

M Human Fighter 1

"Dang. Alright, I guess we'll just have to go with that." Joe says with reluctance.

Unless anyone has anything they want to do immediately...

Silent nods, realizing that a few hours of tracking and scouting might go a long way to informing their decision on the man and his daughters. So he nods to everyone and stalks out, weaving his way out of the ramshackle village. If he passes the man who brought them to the shack, he nods in passing.

Stepping out of the protective ring of the small village, Silent finds a place away from prying eyes before shifting form. The forest stretches around him, his paws scratching at the earth readily as his nose seeks the scents he found in the shack. The wolf looks for local game trails as he seeks the tracks of the three humans.

Stealth - to find a spot to hide in that won't scare any of the locals 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17.
Shift to wolf form and circle the village until he can pick up the scent or the physical trail.
Survival - to find the trail by scent or sight 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21.
Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17.
.
Survival - to look for local game trails - it might be really good to be able to bring in supplemental resources to the town. 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

Jivaji waves Silent on.

"Well, I think it is still prudent to set a watch tonight. To keep an eye or ear out for Silent, and an eye on the animals. I'll take middle watch."

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Silent:

You sniff the perimeter of the town. You do find a couple of local game trails but one in particular smells different than the rest. Heading west there is a sort of trail hidden. You found it by the smell of death. Once again you detect the smells of blood, death and decay. However you can find no actual blood, corpses or every any signs that bodies lay or were dragged anywhere around here. Also you smell the girls and their father on this trail. Their trail is old but the smell of death is fresh a day old to be exact. Something dead was on this trail and has left a trail into the village.

Jivaji:

You do get the box open with a 30. You have to wait til I get home to know the contents.

M Human Fighter 1

"I guess I'll go on an take the first 'un then. Unless one of the rest of you fellas has a better idea on who should take what. It's all the same to ol' Joe."

Shano:
Let me just make sure I understand what you've presented. The scent of the girls and father was in the shack; the father's scent being the strongest. But there was also a separate scent -- one of 'death and blood'.

The 'death and blood' scent didn't' smell like the father's or the girls' scents, though?

And was there any actual blood on the clothes or bed? Or just the smell?

Then the trails:

i found a few game trails (which might be helpful later). One of these game trails, however, was only found because of a 'smell of death'. This is the same smell from the house?

The trail had no blood, no corpses, or signs that anything was dragged. The father/daugher's scents are here, but older than that of the death/decay. And you ended with "something dead was on this trail and has left a trail into the village." Did you mean that silent can tell that the 'something dead' was actually headed into the village? as opposed to out of the village? Or did you simply put that to indicate that it was the same smell as in the shack.

I'm trying to establish some kind of timeline in my head.

Sorry if some of this seems redundant. I just want to make sure I have my story straight before I report back to everyone.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Silent:

I will elaborate in more organized detail.

Shack: You smelled Dad and the two daughters. Dad didn't bathe much from the smell. One of the daughters has the oder of blood and death following her around. No signs of any actual blood or death.

Hidden Trail: Same father and daughters smells. Also same blood and death smell that was following the one daughter. Another familiar human smell is on the trail as well as a couple more blood and death smells. Only a handful of people seem to use this trail and most of the death smells lead either from the jungle to the village or vise versa or both.

Does that help? Simply put, you smell dead people.

Shano:
Yes, very helpful. Thanks.

You said "another familiar human smell" is on the trail. Who does it belong to? Someone Silent's met so far?

Silent makes his way back towards the wall, but not before marking the trail in the usual wolf manner. Don't want other predators mucking up my trail. Before coming anywhere near the sentries or town entrance, he stands back up onto his human feet, entering in human form. He nods politely at any greetings he receives, but he's only interested in getting back to the shack.

Silent walks in through the door, getting straight to business.

Sign Language:
"I took a circuit around the town. There are a few gaming trails we can use to bring some food in. Either for us to eat or to help us create a trading relationship in this town. More importantly, though, is that I found a trail that has the same scents this house does. Here's all that i can figure out."

"This shack has the strong scent of a male and two younger females. The older male didn't bathe much by the strength of the smell. I don't smell any blood in here, so I don't think any violence happened in the shack. Strange thing is that there is the smell of… death and decay following one of the female scents around. Something undead? A friendly or malevolent undead.. I'm not sure."

"Then I found one trail that had all the same scents. It was hard to spot visually, but the scents don't lie. The 'death-and-decay' smell still followed one of the female scents. The strong male scent and the two female scents were a little old. The smells of dead things seemed to be more common and recent. But nowhere were there signs of blood or corpses."

"I didn't' follow the trail too far, so I don't know where it leads. Might also be good to find out if anyone in this village is some kind of necromancer."

He shrugs as if to say, 'that's all i can figure out.'

Male Elf Alchemist 2

I'm not going to type all of that out, Eltumal will provide a direct translation for those without the ability to understand sign language.

:D

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Joe is the onlu person who doesn't understand sign language.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

That's what I thought, I just wasn't sure.

M Human Fighter 1

Joe watching Silent flash his hands in a rapid movement, "You know, I'm really gonna have to figur' out how to understand that quiet fella. One o' you fellas is gonna have to teach me that."

After Eltumal translates, "He really said all that? That's mighty impressive. Hm. Welp, looks as if we got more dead'uns walkin' 'round. That's kinda funny soundin', ain't it? 'Dead'uns walkin' 'round'." Joe chuckles. "Anyhow, looks like we got our work cut out for us, fellas. The quiet fella's right too. We best speak to some o' these village people, see if they know somethin' 'bout all these dead folk walkin' 'round." He chuckles again.

Okay. What does it take to understand sign language? Is that equal a rank in Linguistics? Sorry, didn't realize I was the only one. That's my bad. Plus, it would avoid Silent from having to bust out in spoilers all the time. :P

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Yep, that's all you need.

Yes, we definitely have our work cut out for us. If you want, we can teach you. Silent and I taught Jivaji and Tam, so I don't see a reason we couldn't teach you, given time.

M Human Fighter 1

"I'd 'preciate that Eltumal. I'm tired o' not understandin' what all that hand movement he's doin', means." Joe moves his hands around messily. Looking to Eltumal, he scratches his head. "I think you're right about the whole 'given time' bit."

So it looks like we have a couple of tasks to go about. One group (Silent will go this route) will go hunting to bring in any jungle-provided supplies the group can use/trade. It makes sense to bring Jivaji here - as he's also useful in the forest.

A second group could to go about ID'ing the items in our loot list that are still unknown, then divvy up the rest of the tradable items and head into the village to do just that. We could do a little bit of trading for good will, some for currency, and some for supplies (if there's any we need).

The third group could head out into the village looking for information. Looking into who the man and his daughters were before they left would be good. Then seeing if they were known to be in the presence of undead commonly. Or if anyone in town is a necromancer of some flavor. And if neither of those are the case, then it'd be good to find out if anyone has seen anything like undead in or around camp lately - and if it was a usual occurrence or if that would be seen as a bad/scarey thing in this town.

Any other thoughts?

Tam might be good for the third group. He's open, personable and his carpentry skills seem to be in need. He'd be well placed to hear things he might not otherwise hear.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

Splitting the party usually ends in disaster. It usually makes DMs salivate.

Other than those concerns, the plan sounds reasonable. I would suggest that Joe and Tam do some questioning. Joe is likable enough, and would be right useful were a scuffle to occur from unwanted questions. It keeps Tam from having to ape out as well. Also I think Tam is likely the most 'diplomatic'.

That would leave Eltumal alone to do trading. Trading usually isn't terribly dangerous. Right? Right guys? Anyhow, when/if we see if we can make a crafting arrangement with the village, I want to put in a request for traps to be made. I just really don't get much of an opportunity to create them, and I can't make them quickly until 5th level.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

I should hope trading isn't dangerous. I'm not much use yet without people to support with fire.

Just give a list of things we don't want sold, and I can handle the rest.

M Human Fighter 1

Joe listens to the planning amongst the group. "Alright, I guess I can go with our little buddy here." He smiles as he slaps Tam on the back. "We'll have a good ol' time! I guess we ought to get started now then. Unless you fellas think we ought to wait 'til tomorrow. Makes no mind to me."

About what time of the day is it?

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Well, I can't Identify anything until tomorrow, so I'm going to have to wait, at the very least.

In sign: "If you won't be ready to do the trading until tomorrow, why don't you come with us into the forest or help Tam and Mac with the village-work?"

If everyone would rather stick together, that's fine. I just hate it when some people are more-or-less wasting time in situatiosn where they have no relevant skills. But I do realize the danger of doing so in a new and unknown environment. I'll be fine whatever we do.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Don't worry, I am not waiting just outside the village with hundreds of angry dinos and undead just waiting for a small group of adventurers to leave the safety of the village. Not at all *drool* *slurp* Oh where did that come from.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

"Sure, Silent. I'll go with you into the forest. If we happen to come across dinos, I'll be fairly helpful in directing our movements away from them without them noticing."

Now I just look paranoid. I had this post typed up before you posted, Shano, and then i got distracted by craigslist.

As soon as Tam picks himself up off the ground following Joe's "friendly slap" he brushes himself off and nods to Joe. "Let's go meet the natives, right Joe? And no falling in love this time, right?"

Silent seconds the motion that Mac keeps it in his pants... for once.

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

"Excellent, then. Let us make good use of the night."

Jivaji leaves the animals behind, but takes some supplies with him.
Torches, a couple beartraps, Rope, a saw.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Okay so just let me know when you guys head out. Ball is in your field.

Joe and I will head out. I'll let Joe do his own thing while I take my tools and go in search of people who need a carpenter. Mostly I'll just listen, letting my innocent face put people at ease and allow them to talk about whatever's on their minds.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Okay Tam and Joe. If you are going out to talk or listen, I need to know one of two things. First what kind of people do you approach? (ie demographic or apparent responsibility or job.) What exactly are you listening for?

Finally I will need a perception check abd diplomacy check from each of you.

M Human Fighter 1

Joe puts a hand to his chin, pondering Tam's question in a serious looking manner. Unable to control it anymore, Joe can't help but smile real big. "Alright little buddy, let's go people meetin'! And I promise, no fallin' in love. But in my defense, she shor' was a sight to look at when she wasn't wearin' nothin'. Whooo! You know, all I can really say 'bout that is...," he thinks a moment on how best to describe it. And the only response he is able to muster, accompanied by a big Joe smile is, "Whooo! Let's go little buddy!" Joe then leads the way out to the people.

Is there farmers around? That type would appeal to Joe. Going out to talk first.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 13

Tam rolls his eyes and follows Joe out.

I'll approach any craftsmen I see, introducing myself and offering my help with any woodwork or carpentry they need done.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

Watching Tam and Joe head out, Jivaji turns to Silent.

"Well, I suppose we should be going."

Jivaji will set two bear traps and two snare traps.
I think that, for the most part, there's not a skill check on how to best set a trap. I figure survival to find good spots. The traps would still get a perception check to be discovered (just about anything except mindless should be wary of weird looking contraptions).
So, Survivals:
Bear 1 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17, Perception DC 20, Disable DC 20
Bear 2 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20, Perception DC 20, Disable DC 20
Snare 1 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21, Perception DC 20, Disable DC 15
Snare 1 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26, Perception DC 20, Disable DC 15

Bear Trap:

Effect Atk +10 melee (2d6+3); sharp jaws spring shut around the creature’s ankle and halve the creature’s base speed (or hold the creature immobile if the trap is attached to a solid object); the creature can escape with a DC 20 Disable Device check, DC 22 Escape Artist check, or a DC 26 Strength check

Snare:

Effect CMB +10 (vs. target's CMD; target gains grappled condition and is yanked 10 feet into the air). A caught PC can escape this snare on his own by making a DC 22 Strength or Escape Artist check, or automatically if he has a slashing weapon with which he can cut the snare line (although this action results in a 10 foot fall).;

Aside from that, Jivaji throws his tracking abilities into the mix when heading out.
Survival for hunting 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Survival for picking up the Carpenter & Daughters trails 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Stealth while hunting 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Perception while hunting 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

how long do we have til sundown?

Male Tengu Ranger (Trapper) / 2

That's a good point. Want to get back before it's dark. So it would probably be good to set traps, poke around a bit, come back and start watches?

THat was my thought.
Survival - to gather some game on those game trails 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14.
.
Then with the remaining time, following the trail of the family by scent, turning back with just enough time to get back before dark-fall. If they run into trouble, and Silent the Wolf can pick it up before they blunder into it, he'll warn them off and have everyone come back to camp.
Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Stealth 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Survival (to track by scent) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Sounds good to me.

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Tam and Joe:

You guys gather little to nothing useful. However you did learn one bit of interesting info. No dinos or undead have ever wandered into this village.

Jivaji and Silent:

Traps are set. Hunting finds a few food stuffs for a total of 7 rations.
Jivaji, if Silent takes you to where the hidden trail was, you will find the daughters and dad's trail.
Also you guys find a Pachysephiasaurus. (Totally butchered spelling)

Male Elf Alchemist 2

I thought I was to accompany Silent and Jivaji today?

Both Martian Level 20 invader

Didn't see that anywhere. You can read their spoiler.

Not a problem.

Shano, Jivaji, and Silent:
When we come across the Pachysephiasaurus (Pachycephalosaurus?) Eltumal crouches low. He whispers: Follow me, and do as I do. Giving +5 to everyone versus dinos.

The Away Team (Shano, Jivaji, & Eltumal):
The Wolf shifts to hybrid form, staying in a slinking crouch behind the elf, blade drawn. His free hand flashes one word. "Dangerous?"

Stealth 1d20 + 6 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 5 = 26.

Male Elf Alchemist 2

Away team:
Sign language: Possibly. I know you have no other easy form of communication, Silent, but Jivaji, we should communicate via sign. This is how we did it in the field, so they can't hear us, and it's easier to keep them from frenzying.

M Human Fighter 1

"Well, little buddy, I didn't do to durn good today, but, there's always tomorrow." Joe smiles real big at the thought. "Let's get on back and see what the others might 've found on out. How'd you do, by the way?" He asks as he starts out back toward the cabin.
