Jivaji Varesh |
"!"
"Tam! That was... Are you alright?"
Jivaji's focus temporaily shifts away from his own injuries as he eyes Tam over for injuries to his person from the savage display just moments before.

You all make your way south and after a few hours of trudging through this dense jungle you come to a strange statue that stands about a foot tall.
This is an unholy statue with special warding powers.
You continue to follow the map to the gypsy caravan camp.
The camp is a large clearing in the jungle with at least ten wagons and about twelve shacks and somewhere around 60 to 80 people walking about living normal lives her in the middle of a dinosaur and zombie infested jungle.
Jivaji Varesh |
"Indeed."
Jivaji tightens the straps on his pack and on the horse and mule. Making sure nothing is easily accessible to wandering hands, he nods to himself contentedly.
Leading the animals into the camp slowly but confidently, Jivaji keeps his eyes open for danger.
Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Shanosuke |
Jivaji takes the lead and heads into "town". As he heads in the town goes quiet. People are staring as you make your way in.
You notice mixed expressions of fear, hope, shock, bewilderment. Clearly these people weren't expecting to have travelers just waltz right in. From the looks of wagons these people are nomadic gypsies.
Silent, the boy |
Silent follows the group through the camp (in human form), keeping eyes, ears, and nose open for anything strange or threatening. He watches people's faces and body language, gauging their situation.
Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15.
Sense Motive 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25.
Shanosuke |
You all find a wagon with stuff out displayed in a mercantile fashion. When Jivaji speaks to "trade" the man running the wagon looks surprised. "You are from the outside. My gods. You must speak with Ofal. His home is right over there. He always wants to meet new travelers." The man is pointing to a nice looking wagon.
When you approach a large old man steps out to meet you. He is tall but scrawny. He his bald heavily bearded head sits atop a long neck. His beard is thick and very bushy but not really long his eyebrows are also very bushy. His nat hair colour is obviously light brown but the amount of grey and is apparent weight tell he must be really old.
"Greetings. Heard there were newcomers in town. Where did you hail from and how did you come to be here?
Jivaji Varesh |
"Greetings indeed! We are quite relieved to find civilized folk in this cursed jungle. As for your question, well that's quite a story.
We joined party well far to the north of here on a beach, running for our lives. We entered this jungle, and fled through the fog wall.
We've lost several people along the way, sadly."
Sighing, Jivaji sets aside the moment of mourning to speak to Ofal once again.
"We are attempting to locate the cause of the fog, and if possible, to dismantle it. Do you know anything about it?"
Diplomacy for assistance/information 1d20 ⇒ 12
Sense Motive on the reply 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Shanosuke |
The old man raises an eye at the talking bird for a moment. "I am sorry for you losses. We too have been trapped in here by this infernal fog. We have been here for near 50 years now. We really have no idea what is causing this fog or how to lift its effects. I am sorry. We can't do more than offer food and shelter.....for a price. We do have prospects of leaving one day after all and our goods are worth quite a bit to us in this.....place. However, we will gladly trade items as I am sure anything you bring would be more valuable than gold. What do you say?"
Joe "Mac" MacGillicuddy |
I thought about it myself, but I was drawing a blank. This really ain't Joe's area of expertise.
"Heck yeah, we'll trade with you! Eltumal's right though, it'd do us some good to get a bit o' rest." Joe smiles as he turns to the others and whispers, "What are we gonna trade, fellas?" He asks, clueless as to what they have that might be worth anything.
Shanosuke |
The man stands for a moment pondering. "Well we have a shack that is....open. The owner went missing a couple of days ago looking for his missing daughters. It has been five days. I don't believe he's coming back. You can stay at his place I will show you." He takes you to the shack. It is big enough for all of you to have a bed with one master bed and a bunk bed. "You can stay here, even live here if you are willing to contribute to our survival. Now you have a place to stay, do you have any questions?"
Joe "Mac" MacGillicuddy |
A big ol' Joe smile forms at the man's generosity. "Why that's mighty kind of you, mister! We 'preciate this!" He looks around at the place. His brow then wrinkles as the missing daughters he just spoke of registered within. "Yessiree! I shor' do. These missing daughters you talked about, how many of 'em were there?"
Jivaji Varesh |
Sorry, I know I kinda took the lead there, then disappeared. I got super busy with work and home life.
By the way, Jivaji only mentioned trading because it's the universal sign of "we don't want to kill you." Though it's entirely likely we can still get some good trading relationship going on here.
Jivaji patiently waits for Ofal to finish telling Joe the story of the carpenter before adding to the conversation.
"Thank you so kindly for your generosity. The hospitality is most welcome. As our eager friend has pointed out, we are concerned for the loss of your Raylof and his daughters."
"As my friends have mentioned, we are terribly exhausted, if you do not mind, and if no one else has questions?..." Jivaji turns to the rest of the party, offering a moment to comment. "we would like to rest before anything else."
From what I can determine:
--Should we bunker down in that house, investigate this stuff, make claims and organize our goods, then try to head out?
Silent, the boy |
Relieved that the group wasn't in fact going to rely on the mute lycanthrope to handle the negotiations, Silent follows them into the house, letting his nose wander a bit.
He pokes around at some of the random stuff in the shack -- pulling back curtains, opening drawers, just general nosing around. The story of the two daughters catches his attention, and his hands fly through a couple of thoughts.
Resting up, ID'ing the gear, and divvying up/selling the equipment is a good call.
Jivaji Varesh |
Jivaji watches Silent's question, and replies "That is possible, there were all types of women in that woman-village. The daughters very well could be amongst them. We shall have to ask Ofal for a description"
Once settled into the house, Jivaji shows visible signs of relaxation. He begins bringing in goods from his equine friends.
As the items are sorted out, he poses an idea to the group.
"So, I have an idea. It appears that the people in this camp are quite industrious, and so far I think we can trust them more than the elven village.
I'm wondering if we can work out a deal where they can craft some of the items we will need. I know I haven't had the opportunity to work on some of my traps, and I'm pretty certain that I could show them what I need.
Also, Gylwinth's lab may prove more useful here, if we can have them create potions for us. Perhaps if we help them out with their missing people, or carpentry, or what have you, we can make a ...beneficial arrangement?"
Jivaji pauses for a minute to let the idea sink in. After a long pause he adds in.
"Also, I was thinking that perhaps we should rest a few days to heal our wounds without using potions, and maybe even use that time to replenish our stock?" Jivaji turns his questioning, beaked face to Eltumal as his question is raised. "During such time, we could further show the people here what we would need, if we could strike such a bargain."
Shrugging briefly, he adds "It is just a thought. What do you fellows think?"
Eltumal Woodsoul |
"Also, I was thinking that perhaps we should rest a few days to heal our wounds without using potions, and maybe even use that time to replenish our stock?" Jivaji turns his questioning, beaked face to Eltumal as his question is raised. "During such time, we could further show the people here what we would need, if we could strike such a bargain."
That's doable. If I can get the materials, I can make more potions. I can make a few more things than cure potions, as well. In any case, my vote is also yes.
If asked, Eltumal will describe the potions he can make as:
Reduce Person
Enlarge Person
Ant Haul
Jivaji Varesh |
Enlarge Person is always a great potion. It's a standard action to drink instead of a full-round to cast. Plus the melee dudes can drink when they choose. CLW is always a winner.
Jivaji begins tinkering with the as-yet unlocked chest from before, now that he has the time to.
Perception for traps 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
->I'll take 20 on the chest (28 Disable Device check).
->If Jivaji detects a trap: Disable Trap 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20.
->Then, to open chest: Disable Lock 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13.
After that, Jivaji hunts around on his mule for the sack that he randomly stuffed items in from the caravan.
It was about 50 lbs of random crap. Anything good in there Shanosuke?
Jivaji Varesh |
"Ah, Joe, you bring up a good point. Perhaps over the next couple of days, Silent could seek the tracks of the carpenter and his daughters? This would still give us time to heal, and also give us a good solid lead on finding these people."
Jivaji gestures philosophically with his be-taloned hand.
"Now, I could understand heading out immediately if the girls had only been missing for a couple days. But Ofal said he was gone for 5 days now, and the girls must have been missing for longer."
Jivaji then shrugs, as if weighing a difficult decision.
"We take risks either way. We could leave tomorrow, bruised and bleeding if we do not use potions, or dangerously low on potions if we do. Or we could leave in a couple days, raising the risk slightly that the girls could have been killed in these two coming days. I truly do understand your moral plight, but we must also consider our own survival. It is most certainly not news that this jungle is supremely dangerous; it will literally eat us alive if we are caught unprepared."
Jivaji then stands up, hold his hands out in a gesture to include the attention of everyone in the house.
"My opinion I think is obvious. I am willing to submit to a vote, if anyone else feels that it would be... let's say irresponsible?... to delay our task. Should the group's opinion be that we leave; If I may but make the request that we take at least one day to heal and replenish supplies?"
His head tilts greatly to one side, waiting for responses.
Shanosuke |
At the questions about the daughters, Ofal responds. Just a bit northwest of here mostly west. I told Raylof not to go. There are unspeakable dangers out there but he wouldn't listen. Again it was a shame to lose such a valuable member of our team. "
He listens to Tam's offer and nods. "If you have skills to offer then We will gladly accept. Now you just take it easy and rest. Again if you do make yourselves useful then we would be to let you stay on. Now I have a village to attend to. Good day."
he leaves.
You try and unlock the chest but it is just a tad too difficult to open. After trying for awhile you realize it will take just a bit more to open.
Mostly nice cloths and some jewlry and a few valuable nick nacks. Appraise will tell you what it is worth.
