Okay, Eltumal is the dino expert here. He then begins to sneak towards the wagons.
Tam can tell the wagons still have all their goods in them. A couple of holes in the wagons indicating that the stegs are what took these out.
Now, Eltumal is slinking towards the wagons. He "Thinks" he's stealthy. The rest of you haven't made any actions. Jivaji will have the map up in a bit and you will then see where you all are at. YAY! MAPS!
Once the map is up please post what you are going to do.
Tam Hardwick |
Tam is feeling a little nervous. He begins to shake, then APEs out, going Demon Ape. The Demon Ape will move slowly on all fours toward the caravan, moving at half speed. He'll move to C-21, keeping well away from the nests, to circle to the caravans from the West beyond the trees.
Stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Jivaji Varesh |
Am I correct in thinking that the large brown rectangles are the caravan, and the big green squares are the nests? I'm just making sure.
Yep, hover your mouse over the squares with tiny orange corners.
Stealth: 1d20+1
Keep in mind Eltumal shared his +5 stealth bonus with us (somehow?) You got a 22
Jivaji quickly pulls out his sword and shield, and stays close behind Eltumal in a guarding position, stepping quietly.
Stealth 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15 (you know, quiet like a house cat in heat?) :(
Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Eltumal Woodsoul |
I shared my +5 stealth bonus against Dinos, which I am able to do because I took the Dino Expert Campaign Trait.
Edit: Somehow, I didn't notice the Orange Corners. Thank you.
Joe "Mac" MacGillicuddy |
Man that's just somethin' else, I tell ya what. Joe thinks to himself as he sees Tam go all ape on them. He then grabs his scythe, ready to charge in if necessary. "I better wait here, fellas. This might be a bit of a shocker, but I ain't never been much for being quiet. But don't you worry none; if trouble arises, I'll come a runnin'." He says with a wink and a smile.
Nye Wajid |
@Nye: You just waltzing right through the nest to the wagons?
AH...NO! I miss understood I thought that the Steg Nests were nearby and that we were at a caravan. Didn't get they were one and the same place. Nye will stay back and watch what the others are doing, keeping an eye out for any motion from the nests.
Silent, the beast |
Sorry for the silence over the last couple of days… work is still crazy, though I'm caught up now. Good to have a map! Thanks, guys.
Silent, still in the wolf form he's assumed over their travels, follows Eltumal, providing some support in case anything should go wrong. He keeps his eyes, ears, and nose on alert as he four-pawed pads after the elf.
Following Eltumal, all senses on alert, in Wolf form.
Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 (keep in mind Scent)
Stealth 1d20 + 6 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 5 = 19.
Shanosuke |
Fortunately Eltumal's skills also mask scent but I know what you meant Silent. Hehe, Silent was silent for a while heheh, I am such a dork.
You all begin creeping stealthily into the nest towards the wagons. As you make progress one of the stegs begins to look around. Suddenly it starts bellowing and comes charging at Jivaji. Another emerges from the woulds. Tam was able to spot it and quickly pulled back in time. Jivaji and Silent now have two massive stegasaurs roaring and stomping before them. The creatures aren't attacking you but they are making a lot of noise and a very intimidating display.
The two stegs are trying to intimidate you. They score an assisted result of 24. To resist being shaken your resistance is 10 + HD + Wisdom Modifier + Any bravery points. Failure results in being shaken.
Eltumal is able to bypass the stegs and make it to the first wagon without being detected. Perception please and/or a detect magic if you have it. You are allowed to take 10 but do to the presence of the stegs and their distracting noise and persistent stomping, you can't concentrate enough to take 20.
You find many valuable silks and clothing in this wagon. The most interesting of these is a well embroidered cloak that is set apart from the other items you have found. It must have some value. You also find a locked case. It weights about 28 pounds. The Lock is DC 25.
Shanosuke |
Perception:1d20+7
Well, that's too bad. Hopefully, Someone else will be able to find it.
Can I see the stegs attacking the others from where I am? Perception 1d20+7
If so, Reduce person. 2 minutes of small size.
I'm feeling nice today and will say you are extra attentive.....inspite of all the roaring and thromping going on outside. You get a +1 to Perception from an unknown source. :P
If you look you can see that the stegs Aren't necessarily attacking the others. Moreover they are simply trying to scare them off. I dare any of you to try and fight these things! DO IT! I wanna see how fast you die mwahahaha! No I am kidding. Please nobody try and fight these things. It's bad for your health.
Eltumal Woodsoul |
I wanna see how the cloak fits. Also, if possible, I'd like to put the locked case in my backpack. If possible, I'd like to look into the next wagon, peeking from P29 into it.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Silent, the beast |
The wolf jumps back into a defensive crouch, warily circling the thundering creatures. His fur bristles, teeth flashing dangerously at the giant lizard-things, and his yellow eyes rarely leave the dangerous-looking spikes and plates.
Hurry it up, ya pointy-eared two-legs, the wolf thinks at Eltumal, I can only keep these things occupied so long before this is going to get painful.
Silent the wolf will circle warily, trying to keep the stags' attention while not becoming enough of a threat to actually attack… though if it came to it, he'd prefer the stags attack him over Eltumal.
Jivaji Varesh |
Jivaji stops in his tracks after the impressive display of the huge beast.
shaken
Jivaji tries to show the beasts that they mean no harm. He puts his sharp-looking weapons away and tries to emulate the small underfoot animals he's seen in the jungle.
Wild Empathy 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 vs 20+their CHA mod
Kn: Nature 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Shanosuke |
Sorry for the delay
The thunder lizards intimidate a little more. Soon they decide Jivaji isn't dangerous and simple stop bellowing at him. However, the wolf, silent, is still a potential threat. The two lizards now focus their intimidation completely on Silent. The largest of the two moves within striking distance. What will Silent do? What will Jivaji do?
Eltumal. There is a lot of junk in this wagon but you do not notice anything particularly outstanding. I will allow one more perception check if you climb into the wagon and look around. You are allowed to take ten though that may not be enough to find everything to be had in this wagon. Some of it though for sure.
Silent, the beast |
There is a moment of both satisfaction and great alarm when both creatures turn on the wolf. He immediately drops his ears, stops growling, tucks his tail, hunches low to the ground, and retreats from the giant lizards (in the direct opposite direction from Eltumal).
It's only through great pride and will-power that the wolf doesn't let a whimper escape his throat.
A double-move should get me far enough away that they'd pretty much have to charge me to get at me. And I'll go ahead and throw an Acro in there to tumble away on the off-chance the beast wants to take a swipe at Silent as he leaves.
Acrobatics to avoid AoO's 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17.
Jivaji Varesh |
Jivaji waves his hands slightly to get Eltumal and Silent's attention before slipping into a stream of hand motions.
Silent, stand down friend, I think we're ok. Eltumal, do they understand pack rank? Maybe if you both fall in behind me they will back down.
Shanosuke, just trying to get a feel for what we can do to make this work. Deos anything come to Jivaji's mind with his Kn: Nature check earlier?

Shanosuke, just trying to get a feel for what we can do to make this work. Deos anything come to Jivaji's mind with his Kn: Nature check earlier?
Ah, well, just Eltumal then?
Shanosuke |
I only know what the book tells me. I'm going to say that because of your different appearances, they wont understand Pack Rank for you. That's all that you will know.
Silent is able to get away before the behemoths attack.
Jivaji, you are certain that the stegs accept your presence but are still watching you closely. Step within 10 feet of a nest and it over. You will need a Perception check DC 22 to see which wagon Eltumal is in.
In this wagon you find a really nice longsword and a very small locked chest containing a simple lock. It weighs about 10 pounds. The only other stuff you notice is just junk goods. Maybe worth something but not enough for your carrying capacity. You can make me an appraise check to find the value of what you've seen.
I am out for the rest of today. See you later tonight.
Jivaji Varesh |
Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Seeming to have lost Eltumal's whereabouts in the scare, Jivaji begins to look worried. He pauses briefly to give the rest of the party a big "Wait" gesture.
Setting a determined look on his face, Jivaji begins to approach the nearest wagon, keeping as far away from the two nests on either side.
Just going to throw out a few dice rolls, use what you need :)
Stealth (I guess to not spook the stegs further?) 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
Perception (If I can get in to search the wagon) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Disable Device (If there are any locks or traps?) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
By the way, if doing this is helpful, let me know. I'll do it often to help speed things up so we can keep the story going :D
Shanosuke |
Sorry for the delay. I've had a lot to do and have been mostly trying to do work, school, start a new campaign, and get into a new campaign or two. Right now I am only in two games online and one of those is a solo player game so no team. The other is goblins only. So yeah. Really been working on that a lot.
Jivaji climbs into the same wagon Eltumal is currently searching. Inside Jivaji finds an amulet on a neckchain. Eltumal is able to discern that the stuff you have found is valuable and there are several other valuables in this wagon. The question is how much can you carry without disturbing the stegs? There is also one Wagon left unchecked. What do you do.
You hear a roar coming from somewhere close by.
Jivaji Varesh |
Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
"Did you hear that? I don't know if it was the beasts outside, or some other predator, but I doubt we have much time to debate. Let's be quick!""
Jivaji begins hurriedly and quietly stuffing the most expensive and useful looking items into his backpack Appraise? 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 Stealth 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24 (Gonna pack it to medium load. It's about 50 more pounds of stuff. It slows him down to walk speed, which is as fast as he can move while stealthing anyway, and stealth is slightly harder.)
"Eltumal, do you need a hand with anything? If so, I suggest we be about it quickly."
Gonne make one quick pass through the unsearched caravan and grab anything in there, not going to spend a terribly long time doing so.
Appraise? 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 Stealth 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 And then exit out the other side, and get back to the party
Joe "Mac" MacGillicuddy |
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
As Joe keeps an eye on the dinosaurs in case they decide to get violent, he turns his head as he hears a new commotion. "Uh oh. I think we do got us some unwanted company." He grips his scythe a bit tighter, ready and waiting to see what's heading their way. "C'mon fellas. Time is a wastin'." He says to himself as he turns to see if the others are making their way back.
Just to be clear; Who all went to the wagons and who stayed back?
Shanosuke |
Just as Eltumal and Jivaji emerge from the far wagon, a gigantic bipedal reptile emerges from the trees and cuts of the two wagon explorers from the rest of the group. The stegs begin roaring and crashing towards the giant thunder lizard. The lizard lets out a deafening roar Will save DC 15 or be shaken for the next minute. Fail by 10 and your frightened for one minute instead. The monster towers over you all and the stegs and wagon. A fifth steg emerges bellowing and swinging its tail wildly. The roaring and bellowing of these monsters makes any amount of conversation impossible to hear. The giant predator is roaring and pacing back and forth in front of the wall of Stegasaur looking for some kind of opening. The ground is shaking violently with so much stomping going on. Reflex Save DC 10 or fall prone The situation is escalating to a new level of dangerous. What will Jivaji and Eltumal do? What can the others do to help? Find out on our next exciting episode of Mormont's Gauntlet!
......I think I over did it just a tad. Hope nobody gets eaten.
Nye Wajid |
WILL Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
REF Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Nye trembles from the sound of the roaring creatures, then gets an insane idea. Jumping and waving his arms he shouts at the lizard. "YOU ARE NOTING BUT AN OVER GROWN SNAKE!" He then bolts away from the group hoping to draw the creature away so that the separated pair can get back to the group. He dashes 30 feet and glances over his shoulder. If the creature looks as if it will chase him he utters the words that summon a cloud of vapor to hide him among the jungle undergrowth.
Cast obscuring mist unless the creature doesn't move then he will hold off and not waste the spell

Hmm not sure how to rule this one. I'm gonna let you take a diplo or intimidate check to get its attention. DC 15, unless you choose to run within its reach, then it will notice the free meal :)

Will Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Reflex 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Jivaji, somehow able to keep his wits about him between the giant towering lizard and the vicious looking lizard pack.
He looks around quickly, trying to find an escape route...
Does it look like we can just go back through the wagons? If that seems reasonable I'll try for that, but note that I won't leave without Eltumal. If he becomes frightened or falls down, Jivaji with grab him and pull him into the wagon until he can pull himself together. Oh by the way are these wagons covered?
Silent, the beast |
Still shaken on both of these saves.

Reflex Save DC 10 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 5 - 2 = 13.
The wolf has visions of his teammates - the ones who will ultimately help him destroy his hated foe - being squashed or eaten, and he knows he has to act. He shakes off the worst of his fear (though he's still shaken from that first steg condition, right?) and rushes to get into a supporting position, hoping the confrontation between the beasts keeps their attention. His lean legs devour the ground as he rushes between the large nests, sliding to a stop behind the middle wagon. Move to S-22. As he runs, a snarl tears from his throat.
Hang on there, you two!

The primal force of the dinosaur's roar is enough to shake the Demon Ape to its squishy Tam-shaped core. It shudders, but manages to keep its footing as the clash of the titans begins.
Still, his friends are in danger, and they've stuck their neck out for him and in a flash, Tam/Ape makes a decision. He bolts, running flat out on all fours from his hiding spot near E-26 straight toward the Steg Nest #1, screaming a devilish shriek as he goes, hoping to incite the stegs into a stampede!

The dinos seem to be unaware of most of you. The predator starts circling the nest keeping distance enough to avoid being attacked by the angry stegs. Four of the five stegs keep a barrier going against the super predator, and the fifth stays close to the nest.
Jivaji and Eltumal make their way to the far eastern wagon, Tam is just outside the western most wagon, Silent is charging strait down the middle.
Nye is now in G-11 and not bothered by the brute.
Joe is hanging back unsure of how to handle the situation.
Silent doesn't seem to notice one of the stegs is defending the nest and he races towards the wagon. The Steg spots him and immediately bellows and goes after him.
Jivaji and Eltumal have made it to the far wagon as Silent makes it to the middle wagon. Yes they are cover but there are holes in the coverings.
You both get into the far wagon undetected and look to discover three velociraptors sniffing around in the wagon. They look at you and take notice. Ints please.
Silent has a steg coming after him, I'm gonna need ints from everyone as a impromptu combat is taking place now.
I have Jivaji and Eltumal in the Wagon at AD-24
Tam is at J-25
Nye is at G-11
Silent is at T-22 with the steg chasing him at T-18
Joe is still where he is.
The other four stegs are along the northern part of the nest with the Rex just near the top of the map.
Have fun everyone and know that I am not an evil GM >_>
