Hmm. We'll have to compare notes for spell selections. Though as a harrower, does Saeri use a spellbook, or does this young grasshopper have to be guided through a meditation on a selection of cards until she groks it, if we want to exchange spells? :)
Chaïa, of course, just has a grimoire full of outlandish ideas in ludicrous loopy handwriting. I'm pencilling in monkey fish and magic missile (that old stand-by) for now, but I'm open to other suggestions, bearing in mind that my taste in spells probably runs to the rather whimsical, which seems a likely result of how Chaïa's magic works. I'll have to see if I can justify getting the bouncy body spell for her, though I'm sure it will probably mean some giant will end up trying to dunk her through a basketball hoop or something.
Saeri, Professional Harrower |
She has a deck of cards that she communes with, serving as her replacement for a familiar. ^^ She probably could teach you spells from it if you wanted to write them down yourself, though.
New Witch spells include Air Bubble and Comprehend Languages, and new Magus spells include Enlarge and Reduce Person. Mostly secondary options, though, since she has reduced spells per day on both sides and I need to be careful at the early levels. XD

It would be a terrible shame if she never got to use one of her spells. :)

Totally random question with no bearing on our current situation - but do anyone else have feather fall preped?
It's 1 target per level (so 2) so if we hypothetically were to fall over a ledge Lu can only slow half the party down. So when we have to start making str checks to avoid being blown away it would be good if only half the party failed each round :P
Janus Alistair Eden |
Not even on my spell list, sorry to disappoint.
I could watch out for undead while I'm falling down, though.
Or fall down very diplomatically correct.
That said, IF the wind becomes worse, and we get blown away, it may be good to remember this:
If a character deliberately jumps instead of merely slipping or falling, the damage is the same but the first 1d6 is nonlethal damage. A DC 15 Acrobatics check allows the character to avoid any damage from the first 10 feet fallen and converts any damage from the second 10 feet to nonlethal damage.
Thus, a character who slips from a ledge 30 feet up takes 3d6 damage. If the same character deliberately jumps, he takes 1d6 points of nonlethal damage and 2d6 points of lethal damage. And if the character leaps down with a successful Acrobatics check, he takes only 1d6 points of nonlethal damage and 1d6 points of lethal damage from the plunge.
As in, if it becomes unavoidable, we are better off with a controlled jump over getting blown over the edge. best case 3d6 lethal + 1d6 nonlethal is still better than 5d6 lethal.
One person could probably try and grab the rope. I don't think multiple people doing so is a good idea.So we could have one person on the rope(best climber, Lu), 2 people with featherfall, and one person plunging down. Obviously, as gentleman, Saeri and Chaia would get the featherfall, then, while Janus does his best not to die.(and hoping the color show did not include spikes emerging at the bottom end of the shaft).
Chaïa Pomala |
Just checking in now, and yes, I do have a feather fall prepared. Thought it might be an idea after the first day of exploration. And I'll make an in-character reminder about that ring. :)
Samnell |
"That rules stuff was a wild ride...you think Saeri needs mouth-to-mouth?"
*glances at Lu raising an eyebrow...*
"Chaia, would you?"
I was this close to being able to exclude Lu from the feather fall and watch her plunge.
LugoSplat: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 4) = 11 She would have lived! Why?!

Would I what?
That is not how treating a fall and possible concussion works, Janus!
Lu has feather fall herself : )
*looks at Janus post*
Also, she would surely get a bonus for a soft landing anyhow aiming for Janus :P
*Sigh.* Hanali knows, Chaïa will have to try to set a better example for you two. ;)
Janus Alistair Eden |
Mouth-to-Mouth is EXACTLY how you treat a fall and concussion.
I have 2 ranks in heal, so I'm somewhat of an expert on that.
It triggers a subconscious routine that usually jerks them back to life, and if you are fast enough, you can dodge the slap that reflexively follows!
That, and the energy from a cure spell more easily flows into the body using the pathway the body uses for food as well.
*totally convinced*
And Lu, I wouldn't be too certain about that...after that kiss, you may have a *hard* landing if you aim too far south. *giggles childishly*
Lucrecia Willow |
Anyhow - I guess the big question now is if the colour properties are inherent to the lanterns themselves or if we merely need to provide the right light. Even if the dancing lights aren't enough red fire shouldn't be too hard to achieve if we ask someone with moderate alchemical skills.
Lucrecia Willow |
Also! Lu can do combat manoeuvres quite decently as long as she is flanking thanks to Dirty Fighter so if we set up a flank just at the shoreline we could maybe just throw the elementals up onto dry land. Maybe :P?
Janus Alistair Eden |
I was considering hanging back and trying to use Command:Approach on them.
I am afraid they'd save, but IF it fails, it would provoke from all of us lined up, and I could step into a (edit:pointless) flank and slash it next turn...and if it tries to flee back into water, it runs the gauntlet again.
But I don't like that that idea depends on a failed save. Could be worth trying if Lu wants to try and bait them fighting defensively next to the shore...
Lucrecia Willow |
Worth a shot!
There is also a tiny flaw in my/our* plan but I'm not sure if Lu and Janus knows enough about elementals to realize that but I guess it will be an hilarious surprise ... :P
*mostly mine part of it :P
Lucrecia Willow |
Mostly that, but also Command is a Language dependent spell and they probably won't really speak anything but Aquan and *ancient dire warnings* :P
Lucrecia Willow |
That's why one always should put ranks in the universal language; love mathematics dance :P
Note: This page isn't but a large share of oglaf comics are very nsfw

Get Janus' ass in some tights and get him prancing. We'll see how the water elementals react. :)
Lucrecia Willow |
"They can't AoO when flatfooted, so no AoOs for Lu. Its CMD is 13, so Lu gets 10 feet of draggage in. That would put it in melee with both Saeri and Chaia, which is cool by me if it's cool by you. I only did five for now to be safe. Let me know."
While we probably really won't have time to actually discuss tactics IC I really do loathe to put other players in danger.
I personally feel like dragging it the full 10' just so it can't slip back into the protective water. But I can understand if the squishies don't want one enemy directly delivered to them.
Thoughts?
Janus Alistair Eden |
They can jump back, surprised, 5-foot stepping away.
Only works if initiative does not work against us, of course, as it does in this case.
That said, I feel they may be a bit...angry at me, and not really consider the squishys that did not pee in their living room a primary target, so I'd say go for it and drag all the way.
Lucrecia Willow |
Presumably the elementals would also be able to five-foot after you which sorta puts you back in the same position :P
But at least we got one "yay". If Chaïa is okay with it too let's assume Lu pulls it the entire way back.

Sorry, folks: absurdly busy day yesterday, so I didn't get around to posting last night. Belatedly, by all means, throw elementals around as you see fit. I haven't quite figured out how best to work out Chaïa's defenses, but if she pays more attention the other half of her gestalt is an oracle, so she should be fine close in.
And if I'm reading the map correctly, the present situation is just peachy...
Lucrecia Willow |
I only came to think of that so that Chaïa can spite Janus :P
(Or maybe that was just a 3.5 thing - maybe pathfinder ghouls are less speciesist :P)
Lucrecia Willow |
Note: I'm going away without internet tomorrow, so there might be a little while until I post again (baring right about now :P). So see ya laters : )

@Loot - we have our spreadsheet : )
I've added our pouch of gold, Lu's fancy new sword and the pair of pointy star rings. We haven't actually picked up the rings yet, but I like to have the reminder they exist. If we do feel like another tangle with the ghoul before we leave it's nice to have them there already. And if we don't, we can simply change the quantity or something to zero!
