Surprise & Round 1

"It should be down this way," Gilthanas said, starting down between the rows of columns. He came there to a carved stone door, all vines and leaves, which parted at a touch but ground stone on stone as it moved.

Beyond stretched a dark corridor full of still, stale air. Just as the companions stepped through the door, a huge slug rose at the corridor's far end. It reared high and then hit the ground with wetly as it began to slither forward. Its bulk filled the tunnel. As it drew near it became clear to even those without the blessings of elven or minotaur eyes to see.

Oh are you waiting for me? Oops, sorry! I'm going to have her attack with her old weapon since it takes time to attune to a new weapon. Of course if this is anything like the books, she'll be using Wrymslayer next round!

"Damn that thing's ugly!" Without really thinking about the consequences, Caitlyn found herself sprinting for the giant slug. Her old trusty hammer was in her hands, between strides she had time to marvel at this. Strange she didn't use Wyrmslayer, almost as if she didn't wish to sully it on such a foe. Another footstep and another, she was moving faster than a flash yet from her perspective time ran like treacle and all was serene. She had all the time in the world to aim the hammer head where she pleased, right between the thing's eye stalks, where the brain should be. The momentum was unstoppable and the hammer fell with the force of a auroch in full charge!

Even as she makes contact, the huge slug lunges forward, slimy jaws closing over Caitlyn's shoulder and bruising flesh. At the slug's touch, her muscles stiffened. Caitlyn is paralyzed for 13 minutes. She can re-save every round.

Mittens charged forward in Caitlyn's wake, cutting deep into the slug's rubbery flesh. It turned on the minotaur, but Mittens proved able to block the strike.

Gilthanas rushed forward to retrieve Caitlyn, reaching her side.

Mariel prayed, "E'li, we need your aid to purge the tomb of your servant from this creature. Harken to my call and come with your aid. A watchful presence settled over the companions. She hadn't had a chance to cast yet.

Round 2
Thistletorp stalked forward while Caitlyn remained frozen by the slug's venom.

Mittens slashed into the huge creature twice, the first stroke cutting deep and the second passing clean through its maw and into the brain. The slug thrashed on the end of the holy warrior's blade for a moment, then fell still.

The Companions reverse course and return to the rough caverns, passing their camping spot and the central fork where the tunnels split. They came once more to well-fitted stone at the end of a long walkway. Doors marched up either wall, each carved with the image of a vigilant warrior. The doors and hall all stretched out past the limits of even minotaur sight.

"The Great Father's most loyal guards rest here," Gilthanas said. "They earned their places with countless acts of honor and faith. It is good that none have disturbed their rest."

The Companions pressed on past row after row of doors, eventually coming in sight of a much larger pair at the far end of the corridor. As they proceed, an uneasy feeling makes Jakun and Thistletorp look back over their shoulders. They turn just in time to see a translucent, dark form slip soundlessly into the corridor behind them.

Also forewarned, Thistletorp drew out his bow to put to good use.

The ghostly form descended on Jakun in a rush, seizing at his heart with translucent hands that passed through flesh as easily as air and left Jakun shaking with unnatural cold even as he pulled away. The minotaur felt them try to seize something else too and for a moment it seemed his magic might be torn from him before he resisted and pulled back.

Up ahead of the Companions, shuffling and scratching sounds erupted from behind the doors of many crypts.

Rules Stuff:

Torch throwing. The exact square doesn't matter in so narrow a hallway, so it's just an issue of distance. Let's model it this way: hitting an intersection is AC 5. Jakun's tossing a torch, which we'll give a range increment of 10 since it's not very aerodynamic. It's about nine squares out, so 45 feet. That would be 3 increments worth of -2 penalties. Getting a torch right in front of the bad guy is AC 11. Every two points lower than that is 10 feet off.

Seeing the undead creature but not really knowingredients what it is, the Revered Daughter of Paladine will grasp her platinum medallion of faith and pray to Paladine E'like, Father of Life. The undead creature seeks us harm. Grant your unworthy servant your blessings that through her you destroy this creature and send it in its way. Looking at the creature she proclaimsaid In the name of the Platinum Dragon, be gone!

Liberty's Edge

i was kind of waiting for him and i've been working.

Mittens raises his sword and calls forth the power of Kiri-Jolith. before he moves to strike.

"Mittens will bring rest to you."

smite evil attack +1 cold iron longsword: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35 smite damage: 1d8 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22

confirm crit: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26 crit damage: 1d8 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19

if he crits he does 41 damage. also his armour has ghost touch so his ac right now is 28. he loses his shield bouns of +3 but gains +6 from smite evil and the champion property on his full plate.
