Basic rules on the lightning: so long as all four nodes are operational you need a save on entry and then every 1d6 rounds inside you need to save again.

And it would have been super-helpful of me to resolve actions while I was here last time...

Damage: 6d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 1, 4, 6) = 21

They ignored him and closed on Spidre's elemental, one dealing it a heavy blow with a long metal beam. The ratfolk on the balcony opened fire next, three of them striking it with metal bolts that exploded in bursts of lightning as they impacted. Karek stepped up to the cloud's edge and swung his fist, but the orc pulled back and he missed. The two orcs struck at him and Chotka, but both missed thanks to Rikal's fog. Within the cloud, the ratfolk were silent.

    special abilities:
    Rage: 13 rounds/day; +1/2 level to damage 4/day

If Groo drops out of rage, he becomes fatigued and will start to lose 2 points each round instead of 1 (although he still gets to take a normal action).

Still seething with battle-lust, Gromahk sniffs the air for more foes..

[spoiler=if he doesn't detect anything, he'll grab Rikal and pull him into the room. THEN drop rage[/spoiler]

If Rikal can't use the wand I believe Karek can? CLW is on his spell list. If so Karek will get Rikal healed back to consciousness.

    Gay Male Inhuman

Groomahk can scent something beyond the fog, but he's not sure what. Karek takes up the wand and drags Rikal from the lightning, then heals him to consciousness.

    wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Not applying the auto max because it sounds like you're of a mind to barrel right on like proper lunatics.

    Be with you tomorrow.

    Gay Male Inhuman

Going to resolve this as a surprise where Groo and the bad guys are aware, then when the fog comes down we open round 1.

    Gun ACs: 19, T14, F17
    Half-Orc ACs: 16, T12, F14
    Hover ACs: 16, T13, F13; Hardness 10
    Rat ACs: ACs: 16, T14, F13
    Robot ACs: 20, T11, F19

    Surprise!
Groomahk, heedless of his many wounds, charges into the fog. He runs up steps and through the concealed door. He bursts out the far side to find himself surrounded by panels of blinking lights and machinery. Before him rises a massive machine of metal, looming against the far wall on a ten foot high platform. Two immense cylinders of pulsing violate light throb at the machine's core, while above a thin cylinder extends through the ceiling. Ladders to the north and south give access to the platform. At the center, a smaller machine with several metal spikes protruding from its heart extends from the larger one. The entire room vibrates with roaring thunder, and the air feels strangely alive, almost as if it were vibrating as well.

On the platform and around the open door stand a small horde of foes, including one of the flying robots and two hulking metal men such as the sworn band have never seen before. Above it all stands a woman with purple hair and odd-colored skin, holding some sort of metal rod in her hand.

The half-orc swings at Groo, missing widely, but the robot nearby steps up to him with great clanking steps and speaks. He suffers a bone-breaking blow that leaves him reeling.

    Androffan:
"Intrusion detected. Initiating purge protocol 11-321. Please stand down and submit, intruders. Purge protocol 11-321 demands compliance per core Divinity Directive."

The other robot says the same, thumping past Groomahk into the chamber with the rest of the Sworn Band. The flying robot trained its metal rod at Groo and emitted a burst of light that struck with the force of a thunderclap, dazzling the orc. He fell unconscious to the ground, bleeding freely.

The purple-haired woman spoke strange words

    Androffan:
"My Lord Hellion's fires burn you!"

and a gout of ravening flame shot through with strange geometric lines raced from her hand to severely burn Karek and leave him in the stink of brimstone and cooked meat.

    Round 1

    Immediately she spoke again.

    Androffan:
"My Lord Hellion's programming is mightier than yours!"

Words of metal bored into Chotka's skull, accompanied by visions of him going mad and turning on the Sworn Band. His brain burned with their heat, branding themselves inside him...but then they grew too complex for his mind to understand and faded to nothing.

"That orc is too stupid to enchant! Destroy him!" the woman shouted in Hallit.

    Rules Stuff:

    Inits
    Various Goons: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
    Gun: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
    Chotka: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
    Groomahk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
    Karek: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
    Rikal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
    Spidre: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

So there's a lot of surprise actions. Just doing them in order of proximity to Groo because that's momentarily easier. They'll be in proper order for next time.

    Half-orc: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 miss
    Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

    Robot1: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 9 + 2 = 14
    Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
    Fort DC 12: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

    Other guy moves, provoking.
    Groo: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 1 = 12 miss
    Damage: 3d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 6, 4) + 9 = 22

    Hover shoots Groo
    Shooty: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 1 = 7
Nonlethal: 1d8 ⇒ 5 Groo now has nonlethal in excess of his current hp total, which looks like it knocks him out.

Rats. Only one of them really has a shot. For Chotka
    Ratshoot: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 12 nope
    Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1

Gun casts searing light on Karek
    Burn?: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 1 = 20
    Damage: 4d8 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 4) = 17

    And for her next trick:

    Chotka Will DC 14: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Order is Gun, Chotka, Goons, Spidre, Rikal, Karek, Groo (-14, dies at -20, unconscious). Chotka is up!

    Orcl/Bld 4 | 52/52, | Fort +7, Ref +3, Will +4 | AC 17, T 11, FF 16, (+1 AC vs. Robots), CMD 19 | Perc. +3 | Init +1 Orc
    Status:
  • Nothing right now
  • Chotka roared as his warrior fell and swung his greataxe through the air. A rift appeared where the axe tore through reality and the bloodied Groomahk tumbled through just before it closed.

Using Heaven's Leap to pull Groomahk closer so he can maybe get healed, trying to position somewhere best for that (or near the robot if he's still conscious).

    Gay Male Inhuman

Sorry, wanted to have this out yesterday night but I got nailed with a headache while reading a friend's dissertation chapter.

    Gun ACs: 19, T14, F17
    Half-Orc ACs: 16, T12, F14
    Hover ACs: 16, T13, F13; Hardness 10
    Rat ACs: ACs: 16, T14, F13
    Robot ACs: 20, T11, F19

    Round 1 Concluded
Chotka roared as his warrior fell and swung his greataxe through the air. A rift appeared where the axe tore through reality and the bloodied Groomahk tumbled through just before it closed.

The half-orc rushed up with its section of conduit and panel, slamming the assembly into Karek's head and felling him. The two heavy robots clomped and clanged their way up in his wake. The flying one buzzed ahead and shot Chotka as it had Groo, with a stunning burst of noise. The orc kept his feet. Far back, the ratlings begin reloading their crossbows.

    Rules Stuff:

Ok so I said I would do the bad guys in their init order...and they have one init. Obviously did not think that through. :)

    Half-orc goes up on Karek
    Half-orc: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 hit
    Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Robots. 1 doubles up, other follows

Hoverbot flies up and shoots Chotka
    Shooty: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 = 23
    Nonlethal: 1d8 ⇒ 5

Rats reload and/or don't have shots.

Order is Gun, Chotka, Goons, Spidre, Rikal, Karek (-2, dying), Groo (-14, dies at -20, unconscious). Spidre & Rikal are up!

    Male Human Skald 4/Shaman (battle) 4/Gestalt 4 | AC 18 (17), touch 13, flat-footed 15 (14) | Fort +6, Ref +3, Will +8 | HP 32/32 | Init +3 | Perception +11 | Raging Song 12/12 | Wandering Spirit: Slums

Well, this ain't looking good. Let's start by seeing if we can get Groo back on his feet.

Though in poor shape himself, Rikal grabs the wand and taps Groomahk with it, trying to get the powerful warrior back on his feet.

    CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
