A routine business deal goes awry when a spiteful drow noble seizes a shipment of weapons destined for the Starfinder Society. The PCs are sent to the gloomy world of Apostae to retrieve the stolen arms. Granted 24-hours of diplomatic immunity for any actions taken against the thief, the PCs strike at the rebellious drow noble and retrieve the shipment. Whether through guile or sheer force, the PCs must prove that the Starfinder Society is not an organization to trifle with.

Things have been tough for the Starfinders ever since the Scoured Stars incident, but recently things have gotten worse. The Lorespire complex’s shop can barely keep energy packs on the shelf and several weapons are on backorder. Some Starfinders have even taken to keeping dangerously unstable junklasers scaveneged off of Goblins in lieu of a better option. In recent weeks it has become clear that the Starfinder Society has become dangerously low on arms and ammunition, and many Starfinders are praying that a new deal will be brokered soon.

It is in this atmosphere that you get an e-mail on your commlink. The message contains the ID number of venture-captain Naiaj, as well as her confirmation number, letting you know this is not a fake. Naiaj is a very sensable and no-nonsense female bleachling gnome renowned for her expertise in logistics. The message is short. It simply reads:

You were chosen for a new mission. Briefing today.

Followed by a time and a room number in the Lorespire Complex.

Please describe your character and what you do as you enter the room for the mission briefing. The room contains Naiaj who is hard at work seemingly orginizing something on her datapad.

"HEYO!" shouts a teched out ysoki, making a big entrance upon opening the door. This beige furred (though you suspect that it should be white) ysoki sports an obvious engineer's jumpsuit with bare feet. His large ysoki ears sport several holes, burn scars, and small bite shaped sections. He wears a thing on his back that seems to be a strange amalgamation of a consumer backpack and numerous toolkits. This contraption utilizes what looks to once have been bandoliers and are now tool pouches as shoulder straps and attached to both straps by chords, suspended at his chest is a 'custom' datapad. The...everything that hangs from this ysoki has a strong resemblance to 'custom' goblin gear though it looks far more reliable.

"Dr. Cupi reporting fo' duh mission!" he shouts more as he finds a normal sized chair and hops...

"Hello new friends. My name is Gidget!" says an excitable Ysoki wearing Vesk Overplate armor with the spray-painted, pastel-colored design of a group of the different core races, all holding hands. The Ysoki on the picture is clearly Gidget, and the Vesk holding her left hand and the Android holding her right hand both look uncomfortable about the situation.

"You are carrying your child with you ... on a mission?"

For Cupi:
When you hack into the venture-captain's datapad, you see she is streaming a video feed from some camera mounted on the wall behind you. The angle is just right to capture you hacking into her datapad. She opens up a new word file types out “I see you couldn't resist hacking a venture-captain's personal datapad, AGAIN. This will go into your next performance review."

The venture-captain finally sets her busywork aside for a moment and seems to acknowledge you for the first time, bust still says nothing. Instead she taps a few buttons on the center console of the room. Naiaj watches as a map holographically projects onto the spherical wall of the dimly lit chamber. This meeting room is aptly named the “Starscape Chamber” and hosts various important strategic meetings for the Society. The pale bleachling gnome speaks for the first time, hardly looking away from the stellar map. “Thank you for meeting with me on such short notice,” she says, as she finally turns away from the map. “As you should already know, the Starfinder Society lost not only many agents but also a great deal of equipment in the Scoured Stars incident. Since then, we’ve been dealing with a shortage of guns, ammunition, armor, tools, and provisions. Over the past four months, the Society has recovered to the point that we are able to start replacing some of the equipment we lost. While we are explorers, right now, battle-ready firearms are sorely needed.”

Naiaj momentarily turns to face the map and makes a request: “Starscape, show me Nightarch.” The map on the wall zooms in on one of the outermost planets of the Pact Worlds, showing a gloomy, air-sealed settlement on the small gray planetoid identified as Apostae. “After calling in a lot of favors and holding lengthy negotiations, we managed to secure a deal with the drow of Apostae to obtain a shipment of weapons. House Zeizerer arranged a deal between the Starfinder Society and House Xicton, a lesser drow house with a solid track record on sales. I personally oversaw the negotiations, and only recently returned to Absalom Station to deposit the down payment owed to House Xicton.”

“My intention was to send you to Nightarch, the drow’s surface settlement on Apostae, to guard this delivery. However,” Naiaj pauses briefly, staring blankly at the map on the wall before continuing, “I just received word that the weapon shipment has been stolen. According to my contacts in Nightarch, the thief is a minor noble of House Zeizerer named Villyth, who went rogue and stole the weapons. We do not know her motives or the current whereabouts of the shipment, but I’m sending you to Nightarch to find the weapons and bring them to Absalom Station. As you may have heard, the inter-house politics of the drow are lethal and treacherous, and you will find only trouble if you start searching blindly. For this reason, I’ve arranged for you to meet with Ceobarn Zeizerer who represents House Zeizerer in this specific matter. You are to discuss how the Society can get its shipment back without causing a diplomatic incident.

“Your shuttle is ready, so I expect you to get your things and get going as soon as possible. If you have any questions, now is the time to ask.”
You may ask any pertinent questions, or if you are ready to go just say so.

Diplomacy (Gather information) or Culture check DC 15:

Nightarch is a metropolis of over 1,200,000 inhabitants, most of whom are drow elves. Their society is traditionally matriarchal, but contrary to popular belief, the gender divide is not backed by law; rather, it is a holdover from pre-Gap times. A drow man with enough contacts, cunning, and wealth may rise to positions of leadership, rivaling drow women in power.

Diplomacy (Gather information) or Culture check DC 20:

The city has a sizable orc and half-orc population, but they are treated as second-class citizens at best, and slaves at worst. Most orcs and half-orcs are destined to live and die as mercenaries, or, as some drow houses prefer to put it, cannon fodder. Also, see results of lower checks

Diplomacy (Gather information) or Culture check DC 25:

Weapons are Nightarch’s main export, and many drow houses are involved in arms trade. What most people don’t know is that there are thousands of miles of tunnels and numerous vaults of alien technology beneath the surface of Apostae. Many weapons designed in Nightarch are reverse-engineered from this technology. Also see results of lower checks.

Diplomacy (Gather information) or Culture check DC 30:

Of the many bizarre technologies that drow are known for, fleshwarping is perhaps the least understood. It involves mutations and magic to transform a humanoid creature into a hate-filled abomination. While originally a punishment, a more refined form of fleshwarping can be used to create augmentations which—while gruesome to behold—greatly enhance the individual’s physical qualities. In the most drastic cases of fleshwarping, the target often suffers from incredibly reduced intelligence, limiting the creature’s tactical acumen. Also see results of lower checks.

"Villyth is a minor noble in the hierarchy of House Zeizerer. I understand that she is something of a rebel, and as far as I know, her actions were not sanctioned by her house.

"As for Ceobarn, he is a higher up in house Zeizer, one of the more reputable arms dealers among the drow. The household actually has a large sharehold of Nightarch. They are demon-worshipers and arms dealers like the rest of them, but as far as drow houses go, they are quite reliable because they value their reputation with the rest of the pactworlds. The (now five) starfinders are given a docking pass and permission to take the Starfinder vessel the Pegasus-4 from docking bay 95 to Apostate. You are given your Apostate landing credentials and the flight path you are supposed to take. The roughly week-long trip goes smoothly (presumably with the ace pilot, Iseph, at the helm). Finally, just after waking up on the seventh day, you reach Apostate:

As the shuttle approaches the dull gray planetoid, several fighters emerge from a hulking capital ship identified as part of the local fleet defense: the Blood Armada. These fighters whizz past like a swarm of angry wasps. The navigation computer lets out a blaring alert as the capital ship scans the shuttle, but soon after, the alert ends and the fighters fly back to the massive carrier. The shuttle descends into low-orbit, and several small settlements with sealed atmospheres come into view. Further out, beneath clouds of dust, several mile-wide blast doors, many large craters, and miles-deep crevices can be seen across the planetoid’s surface. The shuttle soars closer to Apostae’s surface, fast approaching the dark city of Nightarch.

The eponymous arch and various tower houses can be seen within the city limits. Nightarch’s vast spaceport is alive with hundreds of blinking red and purple lights, which guide the shuttle into the gloomy capital of the drow.

You are directed to land on a private landing platform for house Zeizerer. The landing is smooth, and as you step out of the shuttle you are greeted by half a dozen armed orcs and half-orcs, as well as one rather dapper drow that seems to exude arrogance and contempt for you. Through gritted teeth, he ushers you indoors to the massive tower-complex of house Zeizerer. With little in the way of explanation or formalities he directs, almost orders, you take an elevator to a massive office suite, where the drow attendant lets you know, in no uncertain terms, that you are to wait here and not touch anything, and that Ceobarn will be with you "when he can spare a moment." He leaves with his retinue of orc guards in tow.

The spacious office is on the top floor of the tall building. The greentinged windows in the room offer a majestic view over the gloomy Nightarch. Several statues and holographic devices depicting grinning fiends sit on shelves on the walls and on a darkwood desk at the far end of the room. A curious fixture reminiscent of a demonic spider looks down from the ceiling with many glistening eyes.

Examine the holograms with Mysticism or Culture DC 20:

"Nope. That's why I'm excited about this mission!"

A few minutes pass as the party chit-chats about Drow, the upcoming mission, and demonology. However, presently:

A wall panel at the back of the office slides open, and a middleaged drow walks in and settles into a red armchair behind the desk. He speaks slowly and methodically, like he is tasting every word before speaking it. “I am Ceobarn Zeizerer.” He gives a nonchalant wave of his hand, and the demonic statue in the ceiling starts shedding a purple glow, illuminating the room. “I take it that your eyes haven’t adjusted to the light levels on Apostae. You are Naiaj’s Starfinders, correct? I heard about the shipment. A most unfortunate setback. Villyth has always been a troublemaker.” He turns away for a moment and activates the computer on his desk, shuffling through what looks like a news feed.

After a brief silence, he adds, “But it is not our fault. House Zeizerer officially disowned her months ago. Why should I help you?”

The following is a an extended negotiation, where you can make a good impression on Ceobarn in hopes that his good graces will make the mission go smoother. Anyone can attempt a skill check to get him on their side. The rules are as follows:
1)You can only attempt any one particular skill once (So you can't just roll diplomacy a bunch of times.)
2)You can choose any skill that you can justify, though if you really stretch credibility, the DC is higher.
3)This will require multiple skill checks.
4)Good Role-Playing and solid arguments will reduce the DC
Lastly, here are some examples of how you can use skills. Remember, each skill can only be used once.
-Perception: Look around his office for some clue that might help make an argument.
-Sense Motive: Try to read Ceobarn, see his thoughts on you.
-Mysticism: Connect helping you some how to the doctrines of Abraxus
Of course other skills are options too, the above is only a truncated list of suggestions.-

With the rate of fire, the weight of each magazine, and a maximum of .03 seconds to change a magazine, I calculate untrained goblins could reach a room like this with a minimum of 24 individuals. In the hands of someone like a dr.... A trouble-making rogue-I predict only three individuals." She ticks the numbers off on here fingers.

"The energy signature of grenade's blast radius can be accurately measured to less than 12 parsecs. With the humidity, oxygen and nitrogen in the blasts location, and accounting for throwing distances, thickness and composition of any barriers, etc. This can be tracked back to the factory of origin including month and time of day." She pauses, "Realistically the chances of any crime getting traced back to this transaction is negligible, but vendettas and revenge are rarely realistic."

She points out the window "Accounting for wind and air resistance, the shirren eye rifle could reach this room from here, from here and here." She looks at the green glass. "I am sure even that couldn't penetrate these, hopefully the floors below are similarly protected."

"But I am sure you know all this. Their quality is why Naiaj approached House Zeizerer originally. Therefore you must also know why it is important that the location of these weapons be discovered."
Physical Science: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
If no one else wants to, I will try a diplomacy as well.

It takes a moment for Ceobarn to reply, and his face makes it clear that he is stunned and Raia’s Technical knowledge.

“An. . . Impressive knowledge of my house’s weapons. You have clearly both done your homework and know the applications of what that entails. I have to say, it’s not very convincing to your cause, I mean you could say the same if we sold those weapons, but I am impressed nevertheless of your technical knowledge.”

You have succeeded at four checks, and he seems to be coming around. A couple more checks and he’ll likely be on your side.

I will be using my Ruthless Blackmail boon to add 1d8 at a 1 Resolve point cost

While his other team members have been interacting with Ceobarn, Cupi's reaction to 'why should I help you?' was to immediately begin fiddling on his datapad.

Compuers: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
Ruthless Blackmail: 1d8 ⇒ 7

Cupi finally speaks up, addressing the rest of his group, "Hey all! I think I've figured something out. So I got some side info on this 'Ceobarn Zeizerer'. Apparently he isn't really the top of the top here on Apostae or even in his 'house'. In fact, this theft, though semi-encouraged in this culture, still hinders his ascent up the social ladder. Hmm.." he lets go of his datapad for it to hang once more at his chest while he scratches his head. "Because this is going to get out eventually regardless, his best move is to get back at Villyth and get the shipment back. But that would just be an attempt to maintain his current standing....IF the Starfinder Society were to swoop in and take care of Villyth themselves! Ceobarn could claim that he let it happen and maneuvered the society to his whim! Therefore showing that he has powerful pawns! Therefore moving up the social ladder! Therefore getting more powerful and popular and stuff! BOOM! CUPI!" at this exclamation he holds up both of his paws in victory.

After a couple moments, probably cutting someone else off, "Ooh! I bet, before this could play out, he'd have to make sure that the Starfinders had the 'METTLE' to perform this so he'd have to gauge their 'METTLE'. He'd probably test them in some way. I wonder how he'd do it?..."

Ceobarn walks over to Cupi and stoops down to his level, pushing his datapad out of the way to get right up into his face.

Still with that wicked smirk on his face, he begins to speak. “Congradulations on hacking my computer and deducing what you could did. You points are well taken. However, if you ever access my computer without permission again, I will murder, your entire family, your childhood crush, your current crush, all while you are strapped to a chair and forced to watch before I kill you. And if you ever disrespect me again by talking to me as if I wasn’t in the room, I will personally reprogram that Exocortex you obviously have to project an endless loop of waking nightmares into your head, then abandon you on a planet with no technology whatsoever and no hope of escape. Understood?”

Cupi gains the shaken condition for a handful of rounds.

Watching the back and forth, Gidget simply says "Look. The Starfinders are a force of chaos. Now you can either help us by pointing us in the right direction, or we can leave here and just go wreck a bunch of stuff. When we're eventually captured, I'll make sure to tell everyone I can that we're doing this because someone from house Zeizerer stole our weapons, and we're trying to get them back. Zo! was telling me that your people are known for being untrusting. I can't imagine what will happen to your family should the latter happen!"

Diplomacy? (Doesn't matter, it's the same bonus as Intimidate): 1d20 ⇒ 4

Ceobarn stands up to his full height and turns to Gidget. “My dear, you should learn to let your friends talk. You need to learn that such lacks of nuance have consequences. If you were to, say, donate 300 credits to the church of Abraxus, I would know that you had been sufficiently admonished and you had paid enough money that the lesson had sunk in.”

Gidget, you feel like playing his game by paying his fee might make him more inclined to like you. You are, of course, free to refuse.

Exo-Guardians

HP/SP: 58/99 | EAC/KAC: 28/29 | Init: +6 | Fort: +9; Ref: +7; Will: + 9 | Resolve: 10 (10)

"Sure, I can donate to your church, although I would like to point out that I did let my friends talk."

"Excellent!" Ceobarn clasps his hands together and seems to show genuine happieness for a brief moment before regaining his composure. "Well, color me impressed. You have proven yourselves to be resourceful, intelligent, willing to learn from your mistakes and take them seriously" he shoots Gidget a sideward glance "and not completely without guile. As you have made clear, it is true that Villyth’s actions are bad for business and she must be stopped. On behalf of House Zeizerer, I grant you twenty-four hours of diplomatic immunity. Use this time to retrieve the weapons using whatever means you deem necessary. Here’s a document that proves you’re acting on my authority. If the situation requires it, kill Villyth. But rest assured, if you abuse the power I bestow you, there will be consequences. The drow
never forget.

“I know Villyth well enough to know that she has guards and other defenses. The more you know, the less likely you are to walk into a trap. So use your twenty-four hours wisely. Remember that before the time is up, you must locate the weapons, plan your heist, travel to the location, get the weapons, and most importantly, get off the planet. Once the time is up, citizens could, and likely will, kill you in the streets with no fear of reprisal.”

Ceobarn moves over to another wall panel and types a few commands into his commlink. The door opens to reveal a room that is a sort of computer lab, with several pristine desk terminals, a vending machine, a couple couches, and an attached lavatory.

"I'll allow you access to this room if you want to pursue finding Villyth digitally. DO NOT OVERSTEP YOUR BOUNDS WITH THESE COMPUTERS" The drow glares at Cupi before continuing. "Alternately, you can 'hit the streets' as it were and try to find her that way, I can provide a list of contacts for you to start with. Once you have your weapon's positions, I'll be happy to lend you my personal transport to get you to wherever your weapons have been squirreled away to. I'll even provide one of my personal assa-*ahem* scouts to oversee your mission and watch your backs. Any questions?" Before anyone can respond he cuts you off with a "No? Good."

For Gidget:
A Charge to one of your personal accounts for 300 credits to the church of Abraxus pops up on your commlink and requires your confirmation.

Time for the second mini system. You have three options: you can try to find out where your weapons are digitally, by hitting the city streets, or by splitting into two teams to do both. This is a co-operative test, so the highest roll for each team is considered the 'base' and any other roll that beats DC 10 assists. The higher the roll, the less time the research takes. Either way, finding the guns will take three separate checks, which will take up differing amounts of time depending on the rolls. Different teams cannot assist each other, so the digital team has to make three checks to find your weapons, and the Street team has to make three checks to find the weapons, and those checks are tracked separately. So, in character, (or on the discussion broad) figure out how you want to do this.

You have impressed Ceobarn enough that he has given you access to his special computer lab (granting a +2 bonus to the 'digital tracking' team's highest check) and a list of contacts (granting a +2 to the street team's highest check.) He has also said his personal transportation vehicle can get anywhere within nightarch in half an hour, so a round trip in the vehicle would take about an hour.

One last note guys, I'm not trying to attack or single anyone out. You are dealing with an evil drow buisness exec and arms merchant so . . . he's a jerk? I, personally, am not trying to attack anyone.

Cupi looks like he's about to respond to Ceobarn and then the door opens... "Oooaaahhh!!!" Cupi runs and uses a little puff from his jetpack to hop to the middle of the room of computers and immediately begins fiddling on his datapad. Soon after his fiddling begins, several of the computer's screens flash to life and seemingly begin acting of their own accord. Cupi's facial expression is obvious, he's in heaven.

Iseph is satisfied that the negotiations are over. He is rather a digital tracker than an information gatherer.

"I will assist Cupi."

computer aid another: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

Now that we have split the teams (Gidgit, Raia, and Keskodai on the street, Cupi and Iseph pursuing digitally, we can get started.)

Street team: Roll either Diplomacy (gather information), perception (looking for clues) or survival (tracking down the list of contacts you were given.) Remember, even if you don't do well, if you beat above a 10 you assist.

Digital Team: Well, you both rolled computers before I called for a roll . . . jumped the gun a bit there, but yes, the first check does allow computers. Cupi and Iseph manage to separate the wheat from the chaff and find several sites that might have the information they seek. I'll tell you what the results of the rolls (as well as what you will need to roll for the next phase) as soon as I get the rolls from the street team.

NaDarr follows the yotski and shirren into town. No stranger eclecric populations she revels seeing the drow and other natives in the mix. "Fascinating how big this place is considering the chaos the drow seem to thrive on. I mean, it is a wonder that every night doesn't host riots and looting."
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 1 Starting with my worst & hoping for an aid. :) also there is a lower DC for xeno types rolls. I doubt it applies, but what do I know.

Edit Ugh! NaDarr gasps as she runs into a lamp post. "Why do they even have lampposts in this place?"

Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 I'm also a bounty hunter, if that helps. I will make Villyth my mark, which means that I'll learn about any false IDs she has.

Gidget calls upon her former experience hunting people on the streets to help track their quarry.

At Nadarr's comment, Gidget will say "I have always found that an armed society is a polite society."

Almost without assistance, Cupi manages to scour through almost all of Apostate's infosphere in record time to find several useful sites that likely have the information the group needs. This process only takes three hours. However, now that he and Iseph have discovered the sites, they need to gain access to them. This requires a computers check (brute force hacking) or a sense motive check (trying to guesstimate the design architecture of the cybersecurity, finding the weakest points to exploit.)

Meanwhile the street team has a bit of a harder time. Constantly inundated with threats of death 'the nanosecond that immunity runs out,' slows them down somewhat. After five hours, they eventually locate a street gang that might have a lead on Villyth. As the gang bears down and is about to attack, one member shows the newsfeed of your diplomatic immunity to the gang leader, who immediately bolts with his crew. What follows is a prolonged cat-and-mouse game across the city. The street team can use athletics to simply chase the leader down, acrobatics for some hardcore parkour to cut him off, or stealth to ambush him.

Time passed for digital team: 3 hours. Time passed for Street team: 5 hours.

"ISEEEEEPH!" Cupi exclaims pointing at the stoic android. "Good eye broseph, I would have passed over that site. This next part though is honestly my favorite." As he says this, all of the screens flash and begin showing the same animation. A ysoki dressed, over the top, to look like a doctor walks over to an image of a lock, pulls out an old fashioned injection device, and seems to inject the lock image with a radiant green substance. Slowly, the lock begins to corrode. "Iseph! EH?! How 'bout that!? My own personal recipe!" Cupi says as he turns his datapad toward Iseph so he can see the code flowing on his screen.
