GM bigboom |
Welcome to PbP Gameday VII!!
This is a level 1-2 table of 1-99 The Scoured Stars Invasion.
Please go ahead and discuss what character you'll bring (or are thinking of bringing) to the table but no need to list your character's specific details yet.
Looking forward to running this special with all of you!!
GM bigboom |
Hi there neodam!! Thank you for your enthusiasm! But sign-ups for the special won't open until July 1. Either Tyranius or Hmm will provide a link to sign-ups on that date.
If you'd like to join my table, you can sign up on that day. But no need to worry, there are plenty of tables and openings for the special!
GM bigboom |
That's odd. No worries, I'll check in with Tyranius and Hmm to see what's up and let you know what I find out.
GM Hmm |
Hi Neodam —
As per the original announcement on the PBP Gameday thread, we allowed priority seating for the GMs who are working the special. We’re giving them first chance to find seats in the event that they’re helping us run.
Wah! Why do you have so few tables of the Special? I won’t get a seat!
Don’t panic! We will be starting with only a few tables each of Scoured Stars Incident and Solstice Scar C. We’re doing this so that we can better respond to demand, and so that we don’t overschedule tables. For each special, we’ll have a waitlist. Here’s how we’ll be adding extra tables. Before July 1st, we open up priority seating to the GMs of the Specials who provide our tables.
On July 1st, we’ll have our initial listing to see which choices the players pick.
If the tables are full, please add yourself to the waitlist of the special you want. Being on the waitlist is the best way to get a seat in the special. List the character you prefer to play — if we can’t fill a table at your tier, we’ll give you the option of coming in with another character.
You may sign up for ONE special as a player in EACH session. (Remember that you can only choose to play Solstice Scar C or Scoured Stars Invasion in Session One.)
We’ll fill new tables from the player wait list.
On July 9th, based on demand, we may add a few extra tables of any special that proves popular.

Hello everyone!!
Time to begin mustering!! Please take the following actions:
Twik – “The Jack” |
Hi big boom. I’m here. Twik is currently in game but I expect him to be finished by the start of game day. Will fill out the various info bits when I’m not posting from my phone.
GM bigboom |
Richard and Odo, thanks for checking in!
Looks like we've got all five of our players checked in!
Everyone, getting your respective character sheets updated and SFS character information inputted into the slides by sometime this weekend is fine. No need to rush right this very moment.
I'd also suggest everyone begin discussing starship roles so that we'll be ready when the time comes! This is assuming your character is already built, of course...
Twik – “The Jack” |
Twik has just finished his current game. Just waiting on a chronicle and then I can update him.
A fellow halfling! That’s a first for Twik.
Sharmain |
Sharmain is reporting for duty after completing the paperwork from her last mission.
She is now looking forward to her next assignment and meeting more fellow Starfinders.
Kato Oomsphere |
I noticed you had an extra spot on the sign-up sheet. I went ahead and added my name.
Kato Oomsphere - Human Operative(Explorer) and treasure hunter
Is it fine to add him to the party?
GM bigboom |
Perfectly fine! Welcome Kato! Please go ahead and dot in, then fill out your character's details on slide #2!
GM bigboom |
Everyone, we'll be starting up soon so please take the following actions:
1. Fill out slide 2, including your character's perception and initiative
2. Go ahead and post your character's intro in gameplay
3. Discuss and decide on your starship roles here in the discussion thread
4. Familiarize yourself with the chase rules here: CRB Page 282-287
5. If you haven't already, please update you character sheet
Sharmain |
Starship role - Sharmain is not yet well trained for starship combat. She has some basic piloting and a little experience with gunnery. Basically, she is most effective as a secondary gunner or secondary pilot.
GM bigboom |
For this special, there is an 'aid token' mechanic and our table has been randomly selected to receive one to start with. Please take a read through slides 3 and 4 to understand how aid tokens work.
Note though that an aid token can be used only once per encounter, after which it is passed on to another table that currently does not have a token. So it would be beneficial to all the tables as a whole if every table uses it rather than saves it so that the token keeps moving and can be used at as many tables as possible.
Ideally, if all tables use tokens often and quickly enough, every table will get a chance to use an aid token during each of their encounters throughout this entire special.
GM bigboom |
And because Tyranius is so awesomely organized, not only do we have a nicely prepared set of maps and slides to be used for this special, but we also have starship role sheets and a chase sequence rules cheatsheet. Both of these are linked at the top of the campaign.
Twik – “The Jack” |
Twik can pretty much do everything in Starship Combat so it might be best if everyone shout out with what they can do and he can figure something out after.
Primary:
Gunner(ing?): +7
Piloting: +11
Captain: Diplo & Intim +9, Bluff +11
Secondary:
Engineering: +6
Computers: +6
Sharmain |
Sharmain is happy to follow the directions of her crewmates and attempt any role they assign her.
Starship roles: Gunnery +2; Piloting +5
No computers or engineering.
Diplomacy +3, Intimidate and Bluff each +1 - not great Captain material.
On a side note, reading the sheets provided, I have never seen more than one engineer at work in a round but I have seen times when it would be useful. Good to know we have that option with multiple engineer types in the group.
Sharmain |
Sharmain's slotted boons:
Faction: Wayfinders Champion
Starship: Emergency Resupply
Promotional: Starfinder Player Character Folio
Also available if preferred - Starship: Star Monster Slayer
Sharmain |
Do we also wish to discuss things like marching order and SOP for doors etc? Sorting these things out now could help us keep the game moving.
GM bigboom |
Zac, just a friendly reminder. Please fill out your character's details on slide two, including your character's perception and initiative. Thank you!!
GM bigboom |
Everyone, there is another additional mechanic called R-TEP that you should be aware of. I've placed the text of how R-TEP works in the slides for you to look over.
Basically, this scenario will consist of multiple missions. As we're on a time table, so the R-TEP mechanic provides a way for the party to exit out of an encounter and move forward should the party gets stuck.
But I'm sure you all will do juuuuuuuust fine!!!
<grin>
Sharmain |
That is both reassuring and a little intimidating.
This is my first PbP multi-table special so I appreciate all indications of the differences I may expect from regular play. I know that they are usually fast and sometimes a little chaotic during f2f play.
GM bigboom |
Do we also wish to discuss things like marching order and SOP for doors etc? Sorting these things out now could help us keep the game moving.
This is completely up to the party but I'd assume Aldane and Twik go up front, followed by Kato and Zac, then Odo and Sharmain.
As for doors, I'd assume the highest perception individual will take 20 for traps. If any are found, I assume the highest engineer will take 10 with assists from others who are trained in engineering while all others remain a safe distance away. If the trap is triggered then the party determines what actions to take next. If the trap is disabled successfully, or if no trap was found, the party goes back into formation and the lead party member opens the door.
If anyone would like to modify this or not follow the above, just say how you'd like marching order and door SOP handled instead.
Sharmain |
That sounds good to me GM bigboom :-)
Kato Oomsphere |
That sounds like a great plan.
As for Kato's starship skills:
Primary:
Piloting: +8
Engineering: +7
Computers: +7
Secondary
Gunnery: +4
Garbage Role:
Diplomacy, bluff, intimidate: +1
Zac Atrois |
Zac's ship skills:
Primary:
Engineering +12
Computers +8
Piloting +6
Secondary:
Gunnery +3
GM bigboom |
Good news everyone!!
I've received the con's player boon details! Like with day jobs, I like to get these rolls done at the beginning so that I don't forget when the scenario ends.
Everyone (including GMs) roll a d20. If you roll either a 19 or 20, then you win a boon! To determine which boon you win, roll a d2.
Boon roll: 1d20 ⇒ 5
No boon for me!
Now it's your turn everyone. Go ahead and roll for your boons and good luck!
And Kato, go ahead and roll your archaeologist day job as well!
Sharmain |
Feel better soon, Aldane/neodam.
Kato Oomsphere |
Boon: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Day job: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Sharmain |
So I estimate the distance to the dinos at about 130 feet. Is that accurate?
Can we boost and use the Aid Token?
Do I need Life Sciences, Mysticism, or something else to learn more about our new challenging friends?
GM bigboom |
Yep, that's right.
Regarding aid tokens, no, it cannot be boosted and used by the same table. If this table boosts it, it gets immediately passed to the next table and the boost is available to that table.
For the dinos, it will be life science!
GM bigboom |
Public Service Announcement!!
No need to worry about losing time due to the web outages and maintenance downtime. Part 1 will be extended by a day due to the time we lost from the forums being down. Therefore, Part 1 is now scheduled to conclude on August 26.
I'll note this in the campaign header as a reminder.
Sharmain |
Thanks for that reassurance GM.
Now for a little whining: Man, between the website problems and being last in initiative order, it feels like I've been waiting forever to have my turn. Mostly it's just me wanting to lose myself in the game rather than deal with what life has dished up recently, so please ignore me. A little whining is sometimes good for the soul.
I hope everyone has a grand weekend whatever it holds.
GM bigboom |
No worries, Sharmain. If it helps, you could always say something or RP something out of turn that doesn't have anything to do with the mechanics of combat.
Or you can also put what you think you will do on your turn in spoilers then when it is actually your turn, if it makes sense, I'll enact your spoilered turn instructions. If those spoilered actions don't make sense, then you can post up what you actually will do.
Kato Oomsphere |
I'm moving this weekend please bot me.
GM bigboom |
Welcome back everyone! Per where we left off, everyone may take your turn, except Aldane who managed to post his turn before the website outage struck!
