Lenik's magic missiles slam the red ysoki hard, who immediately responds, "Lesson learned! Peace out!" And he scurries away the way he came.

Maarbadvae moves in and takes cover behind a table, casting a spell at the most visible, scary looking threat in the room - the large, armor-covered spider thing!

Portia remains laser focused with her laser rifle on the green ysoki but misses as the ysoki ducks behind the table for cover.

Maarbadvae finds herself heavily assaulted as Rora and Twitch both open fire at her while Grinds' pike crashes towards her. But amazingly, her quickness and the cover provided by the table allows her to emerge from these attacks unscathed and she shouts tauntingly, "The gods are on my side!! My cause is righteous! Akiton and her people will rise up out of their poverty!!"

No sooner does she utter these words when Lenik's magic missiles slam into her! "GURGH!!! Okay, okay, got it. Lesson learned. It ain't over till the fat lady sings....", she stammers. Maarbadvae is NOT looking good but continues fighting on!! In fact, she closes her eyes momentarily and reopens them suddenly while simultaneously pointing a finger at Lenik!

I'm not sure who Fixit is firing at, so....

Fixit shoots the shobhad, hits, and drops her!

The last ysoki looks at Fixit, looks at Maarbadvae, looks at the giant spider thing, exclaims, "Oh hells no!!! I'm outta here!!" He withdraws and runs out the bar off into the distance.

Combat Ended

On the body of Maarbadvae (who is dead), you find: second skin, battle staff, hunting rifle with 6 rounds, mk 1 mindlink circlet, spell gem of remove condition, assorted shobhad bangles and charms (worth 300 credits)

After the gunfight, the townsfolk filter back in, as does Podswald the bartender. They state that they're glad you're still alive and tell you that you won't be held at fault for killing Maarbadvae. First of all, this was obvious self-defense and secondly, she plus those two ysoki were obvious outlaws - they were the ones who acted criminally, not your party. And if it makes you feel any better, here, have another drink on them!

At this point, you may take a short rest, heal up and head to the mine where Talbot is hiding out. Or you can take other actions if you wish.

Rora picks over the loot on the woman's body, putting the mind link circlet on, and slipping the jewelry over her wrists.

When the others come in she strikes a heroic pose and flips her hair stylishly.

She chats while drinking that last free drink, and then is ready to head out to the mine.

Lenik picks up the spell gem and the battle staff, tucking the former into his cheek pouch and using the other like a walking stick. "Hmmm, this gem looks rather interesting, could come in handy...mmm, mmm, a little bit bitter but yes, should be safe in there for the moment. This stick is just what I need, though. My back's a bit stiff after all that exertion!"

Twitch gives a sigh as he picks up the rifle and checks it. "What a mess. Townsfolk trying to protect a charlatan that they are likely going to want to lynch in a weeks time after they learn that their lives are only going to get worse." Taking a moment to load the hunting rifle before speaking again. "Let's get a move on. Talbot awaits."

Hearing Rora's words, the bar patrons cheer as they raise their glasses and offer each of you another drink!! But the moment they hear Grinds' words they instantly go silent and with a nasty look on his face, Podswald snatches Grinds' drink away! Philt and his two bodyguards also re-enter, gives the party a subtle nod, then take up their customary spot in the corner.

I'll advance the scene but if anyone wants to say or do anything retroactively in the bar before heading out to find Talbot, just say so!

You all head out and follow the directions you were given to the thasteron mine where Talbot is supposedly located. After about an hour's easy travel along well-marked roads, you arrive at the mine built into a red rock hillside. Most passages are uniform and side supports regularly brace the passages. A string of overhead lights provide dim light.

Everyone in this party has darkvision except Portia. Unless counteracted, targets in dim light have concealment (20% miss chance while in combat).

As you enter the mine, a sloping ramp descends to the west, made of hard-packed red dirt that shows signs of heavy vehicle traffic. The ramp opens into a large square chamber with rough walls. A metal track runs along the ground from a passage in the west wall and then turns north, ascending a five-foot ramp and then running along the north wall until the track terminates. A pair of metal lockers stand in the southeast corner, and a heap of ore is piled to the southwest.

DC 12 Engineering:
You're able to determine that the tracks here are for automated mine carts. Mine carts enter this chamber and roll along the ramp. Once stopped, the carts are then uncoupled to tip over and pour their cargo into the bed of a vehicle that would back up to the tracks.

DC 12 Survival:
You can tell that the tracks have been installed recently. In fact the timing matches the timeline of Talbot's arrival onto Akiton.

DC 15 Physical Science:
You identify the ore to the southwest as unrefined thasteron.

Twitch moves over to the lockers and checks to see if either of them are open or unlocked.

If open/unlocked:
Twitch will root through the lockers for anything of use or that could possibly lead the group to Talbot.

If locked:
Twitch looks over the lock and applying his considerable skill tries to pop the lock. Engineering: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31 If it opens follow the prior spoiler.

The locker is locked but you easily pop it open and inside you find a basic medkit, an engineering toolkit, and a tattered, useless mining suit but in one of its pockets is an old credstick with 300 credits remaining.

As Rora enters the mine she moves into the centre of the room and let's out a sigh. "Well, would you look at this sh**hole!"

She then wanders over to the tunnel entrance and looks both ways, curious what's down each tunnel. She twitches her ears this way and that, listening for signs of movement down each tunnel.

However, all she can hear is Twitch rifling through lockers, and she's too concerned with the dust a dirt getting into her fur to notice any footprint or signs of life in the tunnels.

Your comment about the miss chance was for Portia, right? If we have dark vision we don't take that miss chance, do we?

Looking left and right, even heavily distracted, Rora sees that the northern tunnel is covered with a thick dust and burnt out lights. It is quite obvious to you that no one has gone in that direction in a long, long time.

That's right, the miss chance applies to Portia only. Those with low light vision or darkvision are not affected by the dim light in these mines.

Portia's switches on the light in her hand to negate the dim light around her as she draws her rifle and follows in behind Rora. "Looks like we're going south."

The subdermal graft provides light only to a distance of 5 feet around you, so it works OK for melee, but not very practical for ranged attacks since you'll probably be shooting targets more than 5 feet away. However, I believe you have a flashlight. I'll say that you can attach that to your rifle if you want. This will give you a 20 foot cone of light in whichever direction you point your rifle.

As Rora moves further in, you see more mine passageways curve up to the northwest and southwest, as well as a room to the southeast.

Searching around, Rora doesn't see anything out of the ordinary.

More of the map un-masked as Rora has moved in. I've moved all of the other players' tokens up so that they don't fall too far behind but I haven't moved anyone up further past Rora. Please re-arrange and move your own tokens as desired.

A passageway from the west leads into this rectangular chamber with rough-hewn walls. A metal mine-cart track runs parallel to the passage and enters the room before ending abruptly. A mine cart in an obvious state of disrepair lies adjacent to the tracks. Tools cover a table against the east wall, while a pair of metal lockers stands in the southwest corner.

The lockers are unlocked and contain mining uniforms and binders of material safety data sheets for explosives. There is nothing special in the uniforms and there are no explosives to be found.

Searching around this room, Twitch does not find anything else of interest.

As Twitch walks past the pillar, a sliding panel up in the ceiling opens up and a mounted laser rifle emerges and fires with a very loud CRAAAAAACK!!!!

Fire Damage: 3d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 6, 2) + 1 = 11

The blast hits Twitch for 11 points of fire damage, after which the rifle slides back into it's hiding spot and the panel closes.

Taking a quick look, Twitch can determine that it is triggered by a motion sensor and is currently recharging - it will most likely fire again once fully charged.

At this intersection, the northwestern tunnel, like the previous northern tunnel, is covered with a thick dust and burnt out lights. And like the northern tunnel, it is quite obvious to you that no one has gone down this way in a long, long time.

The southwestern tunnel, however, is better maintained, indicating that it is currently in use.

The Prof keeps a little bit of distance between himself and the mechanic as he notices Fixit paying more attention to his boots than what is going on around them. Of course, his own aged eyes aren't really much use with scouting, must more a young rat's line of work.
