Ietsuna |
Ietsuna dotting in. Playing pregen soldier Obozaya. Will make up her alias tomorrow morning.
Mnamae-6 |
Mnamae-6 feels his system gradually on the verge of shutting down. He shakes his head to shake some of the circuits back online, and finishes washing his hands and arms. Carefully removing his scrubs, he gently drops them in the bin. He makes sure he thanks the supporting nurses and waves goodbye to them before exiting the operating theatre. He programmed this ritual into himself after Dr. Meluny advised him that it would put them more at ease and he is glad to see that it was true. But only to a certain extent.
He rubs his drying eyes to stimulate the fluids to moisten them. The hospital administration seem to conveniently forget that even though he is an android, he still needs sleep like regular organics and repeatedly schedule him for such long and tedious surgeries. Perhaps if I install a datajack, it would be less strenuous to manipulate the equipment. However, he knows that would be sometime later. With a significant part of his time devoted to the Starfinder Society, the hospital has consequently also readjusted his pay package. He suspects the cut was significantly more than it should but he is nonetheless grateful that they had acquiesced in the first place so did not negotiate further.
He descends to the underground garage and signals for T771-M4 to follow along. He doesn't expect any trouble in this part of Absalom Station, but he has gotten used to its presence, and keeps it with him all the time. The hospital administration only allows him to park T771-M4 here, but that was good enough for Mnamae-6. He then takes a leisurely stroll back to his nearby apartment for a well-deserved shut down.

Important:
I'd like to get started, but I'm having some trouble sorting the right players into the right game groups. This is Table I. The following players have entered their names for Table I in the spreadsheet, which is the final selection for this Table.
I have the following six names for Table I:
Naomi Hiddenleaf
Ietsuna - Obozaya (OK)
Emmjay
Luke_Parry - Zefram (OK)
Revvy Bitterleaf - Savoy (OK)
kuey- Mnamae-6 (OK)
I think Pelican/TRS80 should be on Table II (it's linked above, please go to that gameplay thread). Vrogg and Darklighthitomi: Are you Naomi/Emmjat aliases of yours? Or did you sign up for table II? If you signed up for table II, please go there, otherwise kindly wait until all players have checked - I will fill up any non-shows, but I don't want to run with more than six players at this point.

...swelling orchestral music
Venture-captain Arvin awaits in the Lorespite complex. The tall and confident lashunta man gestures to several functional chairs, inviting you to sit. “Thank you for arriving so quickly. As I mentioned
in my comm message, we have an urgent opportunity to recover some critical information.
“Several months ago, a crew of Starfinders took a ship called the Unbounded Wayfarer into the Vast to explore a series of uncharted planets. They never returned. Earlier today, a vesk pawnbroker in the Downlow neighborhood contacted us, offering to sell us several Starfinder insignias. These insignias belonged to the lost crew of the Unbounded Wayfarer, and that immediately caught the Society’s attention. The pawnbroker named Julzakama—doesn’t realize the true value of the insignias. We negotiated a purchase price in exchange for the insignias and information about the seller. We hope this seller can lead us to the Unbounded Wayfarer and its crew.
“We’ve remotely transferred the requested credits to Julzakama. Now, we need you to collect the insignias and all the information you can from the vesk regarding whoever sold him the insignias, and then track down that seller. Learn where to find the Unbounded Wayfarer and its crew. I’m worried that the seller might not be on the station for long, so act quickly. If you have any questions, please make them fast.”
Ietsuna Obozaya |
A large female Vesk in heavy armour clears her throat. Lost Starfinders huh? Well, this pawn broker will share what he knows, and if he tries to back out I'll be happy to persuded him. Where is he staying while on the station?
DM Kludde |
I must say, I don't know him personally, but I get the impression that I wouldn’t like him much if I did. He runs a pawnshop called Julzakama’s Loans and is an unusually arrogant vesk, Arvin answers, that being said, I would like to keep him on friendly terms, indeed.
Mnamae-6 |
Mnamae-6 can feel that his system is not fully up to speed yet as he listens to the briefing. But the thought of the lost crew feels him with concern. "If the seller is relunctant to share the source of the insignias, we might need to resort to force? But that might alert the law enforcers."
That opening crawl is so cool! I found a website that can create something similar, and I'm so stealing this idea!
Savoy |
Savoy nods and ticks of what needs to be done on his fingers;
"Go to the pawnshop Julzakam's Loans and retrieve information on how he got the insignia's"
"Track down the source"
"Learn where to find the Unbounded Wayfarer and its crew."
"And be quick about it"
"...while staying friendly."
"We will do our best" he says with a grin as he starts to get ready for departure.
DM Kludde |
Julzakama is a domineering brute and only the truly desperate deal with him. He tends to respond better to bluster than to honeyed words.
Exactly, and we do not need any trouble with law enforcement right now. I'll be here to support you if you have questions along the way.
I'll wait a bit to give Zefram/Emmjay a chance to post before we move on

I've heard about that Vesk before.

DM Kludde |
Downlow is a poor and densely- populated section of the Spike that extends below Absalom Station. Julzakama’s shop is less than an hour from the Lorespire Complex, the headquarters of the Starfinder Society, and the run-down store is fairly simple to reach
Although some areas of Downlow are clean and trendy, this narrow alley of concrete and metal buildings drips with oil and sparking wires. A wide, red neon electric sign reads “Julzakama’s Loans” on a building sandwiched between a Kuthite sensation house and a derelict building covered with graffiti. The shop’s solid metal door contains a single, small window too grimy to peer through.
From the other side of the door, loud, pounding music can be heard.
The noise is recognizable as 'Demolecularizer', Trash-Techno music. It's loud and it's been out of style for a few years.
Savoy |
Savoy shakes his head at Zefram
"I'm also more of getting people to want to work along with me as opposed to bully them into it....but I can try if nobody poses an more intimidating threat."

"This noise is recognizable as 'Demolecularizer', Trash-Techno music. It's loud and it's been out of style for a few years."
'Maybe we can use this choice of "music"as a conversation starter?"
Mnamae-6 |
Mnaemae-6 follows along, with T711-M4 trudging behind. He is uncertain how he can be any assistance for this mission. He knows himself well enough that whether to persuade or to bully others is not his forte. It is difficult enough for him to understand organics someimes. Well, perhaps T711-M4 might be intimidating enough. He joins Shar Nar Raia in entering the shop.
DM Kludde |
The interior of Julzakama’s Loans is crammed with shelves containing all manner of near-valueless items, from small appliances to VR game consoles and jars of colored powders. The shop has the acrid smell of a reptile house that has not been cleaned in months. A massive vesk in a muscle shirt stands at the rear of the shop, behind a low desk and a series of heavy metal bars anchored into the ceiling.
The vesk stop from what seems like carelessly disassembling and old computer, and gives the nearby boom-box a crude slap. The loud music stop, leaving only the faint whizzing of some broken vacuum pipe - somewhere. The vesk glares straight at Shar Nar Raia and bellows Yea? What do you want, lash-ling?
Ietsuna Obozaya |
We're here to collect some insignias that you have, and the information that comes with them Obozaya says in her most personable voice.
DM Kludde |
Hah! the vesk exclaims. He then conjures a broad grin to his face, let's see what I have for you, then.
He slides a metal box through a gap in the bars, which contains seven insignias bearing the compass-like logo of the Starfinder Society. The vesk scratches the scaly skin between his bony beard- spikes with a clawed hand and says, Seems I’m now fully paid for those trinkets there. I remember Arvin said something about wanting information, too, and I can do that. But information costs extra.
DM Kludde |
I shouldn't be giving it away for this cheap, man-ling, but I'll tell you what I know for 10 credits. Just you pay up before I change my mind.
Ietsuna Obozaya |
We understood that the information was already paid for. Surely you see that trying to change the deal now might impact your relationship with the Starfinders.
Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Shar Nar Raia |
If the vesk does as I expect, and rebuffs Ietsuna, then Shar does the following,
Else, Shar simply seems impatient and serious and not nearly as nice or diplomatic as everyone else, while letting him get on with giving out the intel.
Savoy |
"I don't think you'd want to upset my friends. I understand that as a bussinesman you'd want to make a profit where ever you can..but you've already been paid in advance and it wouldn't be advisable to go back on your word. It would not go ever well for any future dealing we might have with you...think of your long term profits, instead of making a quick buck"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Mnamae-6 |
Mnamae-6 stares at Julzakama, uncertain what his intent is. "Retrieving from my memory storage, I remember distinctively that Venture-Captain Arvin stating that the purchase price which has been downloaded to you was to cover both the insignias and information about the seller. I do not believe that my memory drives have been corrupted?"
diplomacy, aid: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
DM Kludde |
You always speak with such a squeaky voice, Vesk? No wonder you surround yourself with upper deck faeries. Hah!
The Vesk then turns to Mnamae Looks who's swallowed a dictionary here. Mah in-sug-ni-yahs 'ave been co-rup-ted. the Vesk speaks in deep baritone mocking tone.
Tell you what, I'll give you some fun. Seller's name was Exegara. She looked like a traveller to me, flight suit and all. Not from here. Took the dosh for her in-sug-ni-yahs, then started asking where to buy skeletons, the Vesk says, clearly considering himself very funny.
I don't carry good like that, but I'm sure if you offer yourselves to her, she'll take you, har-har! Anyway, I told her to bugger off to the Vat gardens. That place is full off stiffs. Now scram, led-face, you're scaring away the customers.
Mnamae-6 |
"What dictionary... I don't ... Huh..." Mnamae-6 is rather confused. Why did his tone sound like mine when he is speaking with me? Eventually it files it away as one more of those idiosyncrasies of organics that fascinates him but he can never understand, he looks around his teammates, wondering if anyone wishes to speak with the vest further.
Savoy |
"Thank you for your...cooperation" Savoy's voice drips with sarcasm as he turns and leaves the shop to go to the Vat gardens
Culture check on the Vat gardens?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
DM Kludde |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Savoy remembers that the Vat Gardens are an Ysoki-run garden. The Ysoki surreptitiously accept corpses to help grow their plants (which is not illegal on the station).
The location of the gardens is common knowledge, and they're not hard to find. Upon arriving at the gardens, the station passageways open into an enormous sunken pool filled with a riotous growth of plants. A narrow walkway leading to other parts of Downlow encircles the overgrown vat, and a spire of some kind of machinery stands in its center. For such a busy section of Downlow, the area is surprisingly quiet. Two ladders and a steep staircase pierce the foliage and lead down into the vat.
At the floor of the Vat, a rustling can be heard, and hidden among the plants. There's a lanky figure in a flight suit and wearing a concealing cloak, who is just putting a skull in a bag. Accompanying the figure are three burlish-looking humans.
As soon as the person in the flight suit spots the Starfinders, she order the attack. With swiftness, the thugs grab assault hammers and move closer, while the cloaked figure draws a laser gun.

ACTIONS
Much like in Pathfinder, you can take a standard, move, and swift action each round, or you can take a full action. You also get a single reaction each round. Actions are defined beginning on page 244.
Standard Actions
Making one attack, casting a spell, activating an item, or using a special ability is a standard action (see page 244). Some specific standard actions are outlined below.
• Combat maneuvers (bull rush, dirty trick, disarm, grapple, reposition, sunder, and trip) require a successful melee attack roll against your target’s KAC + 8 and do not provoke attacks of opportunity. See page 246.
• New combat options include covering fire (see page 246) and harrying fire (see page 247).
Move Actions
A move action allows you to move up to your speed (see page 255). Some other specific move actions are outlined below.
• Taking a guarded step to move 5 feet without provoking an attack of opportunity is a move action. There is no “5-foot-step” as a free action. See page 247.
• Reloading a weapon is normally a move action, which includes retrieving the needed battery or ammunition. See page 247.
Swift Actions
Swift actions are rare in Starfinder (see page 247). Some specific swift actions are outlined below.
• Changing your grip on your weapon, such as from carrying a rifle in one hand to having it ready to fire in two hands. See page 247.
• Dropping prone. See page 247.
Full Actions
Rather than full-round actions, Starfinder uses full actions, which are defined beginning on page 248. A few full actions work very differently than their Pathfinder equivalents.
• In Starfinder, anyone can make a full attack as a full action. This allows you to make two attacks, both at a –4 penalty to your attack roll. See page 248.
• As a charge, you can move up to double your speed in a straight line and then make a single melee attack. When you charge, you take a –2 penalty to your attack roll and AC. See page 248.
Reactions & Attacks of Opportunity
A reaction is a special action you can take when it’s not your turn, but only after a defined and concrete trigger (see page 248). The most common reaction is an attack of opportunity. Only three actions provoke an attack of opportunity.
• Leaving a threatened square.
• Making a ranged attack.
• Casting a spell (unless the spell says otherwise).

Shar Nar Raia |
Shar had perhaps enjoyed the green a bit too much, responding a touch slower than normal, but as the grunts drew on them, Shar conjured three little ghostly looking winged koopas, complete with low rez pixelation, which proceeded to fly towards and strike the flight-suited leader.

azimuth laser rifle vs EAC: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 fire dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 6 The thug would likely get cover due to Savoy being in the way.
T771-M4 |
The drone clangs forward past Savoy on his spidery legs, stopping 10ft away from the thug in question, and stabs with the long pike attached to its mechanical arms.
tactical pike vs KAC: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 piercing dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 crit dmg?: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
T771-M4 has a reach weapon. So the rightmost one might trigger an AoO if it draws near.

Iseph sneaks past the front row and opens fire, hitting one of the humans. Shar quickly follows up with magically conjured missiles. Mnamae fires his rifle, but missiles, while T771 rolls in and hits one of the thugs with his pike, taking him down. Savoy moves, and returns fire on the thug.
The thugs team up on Obozaya, but are clearly intimidated by the Vesk

Obozaya smacks the thug hard, and distracted as it is, the thug doesn't notice Iseph sniping from afar - an oversight that becomes fatal to him.
