You're messin' with a culture you barely understand. Like when my cousin dropped the news that her sister was only a half-sister from my other uncle in the middle of the Life Day banquet. Hoo, did that cause a ruckus!

I mean, it all worked out in the end. And that side of the family is a little weird anyway. But man was that an "interesting" dinner.

I dunno, chief. I'm still not on board with telling them the whole truth, but I'm just one small voice in many. Sort of like a Life Day banquet at my house. You're all invited to the next one. Bring your own chair.

"Analysis: The ghibrani species' culture has already been 'messed with', Naboh Berrnshaw. What I propose is--to utilize your phraseology--is cleanin' the culture and restoring it to where it should be." responds Sev. Though its voice is mechanical in tone, hints of emotional resonance can be detected within it.

"Furthermore," the android notes, "it is the ghibrani species that 'barely understand' their culture due to the lack of knowledge of their own history. By equipping them with the information regarding the history of their own world, their understanding will, necessarily, increase."

"In addition," notes Sev, "the invitation to your holiday meal is accepted. When is the chronological occurrence of Life Day? This unit requires time to acquire a chair."

It looks to me like Id votes for telling the Husks but not the Membranes. Remi, Sev, and Dyukela vote for telling both the Membranes and the Husks. Padme', Naboh, and Twik vote for not telling either group. Do I have the tally correct? Feel free to discuss further or change your mind.

No worries, Sev, it's not for several months. If you want to *really* fit in you'll paint your chair with something that interests you. Helps with the conversation, y'know?

That seems correct to me, GM, but I'm gonna throw a wrench into your nice little tally. :-)

Naboh looks thoughtful.

Y'know, I could actually get behind the idea of telling the membranes and letting them sort it out themselves. The two subspecies seem to be on good terms for now, but the news is gonna get out eventually. Maybe the membranes can soften the blow a little if we give them a chance. I know *I* would be shocked to learn that my ancestors did something horrible like that, and would want to make amends.

If it goes wrong, we could see a new phase to the war that almost destroyed this planet.

Dyukela says to Sev+ "I agree with your thinking about the source of the anomaly, the transmission of energy from the soul to the objects it touches. I still have no explanation how the amount of energy in soul is increased. It would be normal that the amount of energy that goes from the object to the soul is equal to the amount of energy that goes from the soul on the object. In this way the amount of energy in the soul and the object will remain the same."

"Curious, Dyukela." notes Sev. "So you are postulating that the equilibrium of the soul is achieved because the soul transfers energy at the same rate that it receives energy from objects or other beings within the universe?"

Sev then turns to the others. "Analysis: If the hypothesis of our companion, Dyukela the Mystic, is correct--and I believe it is—then whether or not we, or others among the Starfinder Society, alter the future of the ghibrani membranes or the ghibrani husk is not a choice that we, or the Society, have the capacity to make.”

”Indeed”, expounds the android, “such an alteration has already occurred. The two ghibraini species have already been altered by our mere presence. There is already a connection between us. There has already been a transference of energy between our souls and theirs. We, as beings possessing souls, are all connected. We have all been altered by the shared experience.”

“Though we cannot choose whether or not to alter the ghibrani species, we do have the choice of how we alter the two species.” Sev opines. ”We may choose to alter the two species by perpetuating a deception, which one or both species are eventually bound to discover. Or we may choose to alter them by offering them knowledge, which has as much potential to bring the two species together as it has to maintain their division.”

The more she listens to Sev’s arguments, the more convinced she feels. “We should also consider the influence of the Starfinder Society here. If we take this information, but leave without telling anyone, what happens when the Ghibranis eventually find out that we kept this from them? We would lose their trust. I believe we hoped to establish an ongoing relationship, but no race likes to be patronized, like young children. It is arrogance to believe that our own superiors will know what to do but the very people involved cannot decide for themselves.”

Remi realizes that she is coming very close to insulting her own teammates and she pauses, feeling aggrieved that they are not all in agreement. She continues in a smaller voice.

“I mean no disrespect. If we leave the planet without sharing what we know, I don’t think I will be able to look Dystane in the face, or Klarima. If the rest of you decide to follow that path, I will not oppose the group but I request that I not be involved with offering our goodbyes.”

Twik looks uncomfortable as he considers the various arguments put forward.

"There are definite potential downsides to telling either side. I mean, how would you react if you found out that your entire religion is false? On the other hand, how would you feel if you found out your ancestors cheated and lied their way to what they wanted?..."

He moves his weight from foot to foot and scrubs his hands as he considers...

"I will go along with the group majority but I still vote that we tell no one."

Twik will switch his vote to tell both groups over telling one group only should there be a tie.

Padme' remains silent while her comrades converse. When Twik interjects:

Twik wrote:
"I will go along with the group majority but I still vote that we tell no one."

Padme' adds, That is my decision as well. She offers Twik a nod and steps back out of the way.

*edit* Thinking over it a minute, Padme' adds the following, Sev+ you're arguments about souls and potential alterations of the future are not without merit. But, I as an individual am not, prepared to face the consequences of that change, should I be the catalyst for such change. Padme' steps forward more encouraged by her own convictions. It is my belief, that you have a bias that, the change that will occur is positive...just because it happens to be the truth. You need only check your data banks of human history or .. Padme' spares Remi a glance, Lashunta, history to know how the revelations of truth have often caused great upheaval and tragedy among societies. I think it presumptuous to make that decision for this society. Padme' realizes her voice modulator is increasing in volume so makes an on the fly adjustment to more monotone speech.

You speak of change that's already happened without considering the consequences of that change. And now you speak of further change as if it's already a foregone conclusion that, the Ghibranis will find out eventually. But, you know what? That leads me to a fourth option. One we haven't discussed because, of the personal bias and convictions of our own society. That option is: Destroy all evidence of the Ghibranis History! Padme' pauses a moment to make sure the shock of what she said sinks in. You see, that adores you doesn't it? A Starfinder, and members of a free societies and diverse cultures; it is repulsive to purposely destroying what is the truth. But, isn't that just what this society did to itself so many millennia ago? By having an opinion on the direction of their society..you show bias. In our own courts you would not be allowed on a panel to decide guilt or innocence. Now you presume to second guess an entire culture's decision to hide the truth from themselves? Perhaps your logic circuits need adjustment Sev+ because clearly your emotional processors are working over-time.

Naboh, will you please go repair the generators? Padme' walks over to the computer terminal and begins to download all the information onto her datapad. I cannot stop you from telling them. But, as Captain, I do have a say in how you tell them. We will leave this planet in unison. If anyone on this crew intends to inform the Ghibranis, they must record the information on to a data stick or data pad and give it to the leaders just before we leave. The information should be Stardate encrypted so the information is only active after we have achieved orbit. Padme' looks to her crew to make sure her instructions are understood. Lastly, if any of you does reveal the truth, I will expect a full report entered in to the ships log at your earliest possible convenience...is that understood?
Padme' nods if she is acknowledged and turns to go assist Naboh.

Id shakes his head, clearly weighed down by the issue. I understand Captain Padme’s decision, but I just don’t think it’s right. I would be onboard with telling both the husks and the membranes, but to keep this a secret from those suffering ghibrani just doesn’t sit with me.

Fascinating posts! Looks to me like Remi, Dyukela, Sev and Id are for telling both. Id would also be for telling the Husks only. Padme', Naboh and Twik are for not telling either group. Naboh would also consider telling Membranes only. Twik would switch to tell both if a tie-breaker is needed. I believe overall that puts us at four people voting to tell both groups and three to tell neither group. Any final comments? I'll be tied up for at least the next 5 hours, so will post a conclusion after that unless your characters have more to say and needs more time!

As the party has chosen to tell both parties, we can contnue a bit longer to RP the interaction between your party and both groups. But if the party would rather wrap this up and receive their chronicles, I can end the scenario and give you a summarized conclusion. Either way is fine by me!

After your party emerges from the mainframe, you head to the sleeping quarters prepared for you and get some much needed rest. The troubling you information you discovered weighs heavily on your minds, however, and some of you may have difficulty sleeping.

The next morning, you are granted another audience with the Most Elevated. As you are brought to their chambers, you notice that there are no longer any power fluctuations of any kind. Lights no longer flicker. Drones are moving more smoothly. Most importantly, the cargo lift drones that bring you up into the building entrance do not struggle and bring you to the building entrance without endangering your lives by falling out of the sky.

Finally, you are seated again with the Most Elevated. Ekahi speaks, "Welcome back off-worlders!! What wondrous news do you have to share with us? Did you encounter anything interesting in The Mainframe?" He pauses for a moment then looks embarassed, "Oh! Oh! I'm so sorry!! Where are my manners?!? Have you eaten? Perhaps we can serve you lunch before we discuss your adventures? We have available another traditional ghibrani dish called kupakhalgee. It is similar to khalgee but with a portion of the ingredients fermented such that previously subtle flavors are now transformed into bright, bold no longer subtle flavors. It's a delight! Would you like some?"

Sev leans over towards Padme', "Quiet Mode: Initiated." it hums in a mechanical whisper. "Recommendation: Disclosure of the shared ghibrani history should occur to both ghibrani species simultaneously. The appearance of any sort of preference or bias between the two could lead to potential conflict. Perhaps, disclosure should occur at a neutral location. We could invite the leaders of the two ghibrani species to meet us outside of the city of Arkeost, perhaps at our vessel prior to departure."

Sev returns upright in its seat as the plate of kupakhalgee is placed before it. In an audible range that it is confident the Most Elevated can register, the android speaks. "Although your prior offering was not entirely... appealing to my taste receptors, I do not wish to be impolite." notes Sev as it samples the dish. Its mechanical tone appears almost apologetic as it speaks, as if it were showing regret for its prior attempts at deception during the meal the day before.

Padme' bows before The most Elevated council. Thank you Ekahi of the the Most Elevated council. We encountered some minor security issues that have been subdued. I think you'll be pleased to know that the power fluctuations should cease for the time being. Padme' looks over her shoulder. As to further revelations... my companions may leave both the Husk and Membranes some information regarding, your shared er...some shared interest we discovered. Padme' looks to her companions with a bit of concern.

For now, we'd like to thank all the Membrane society and especially the council Most Elevated, for your kindness and hospitality.Padme' bows again and *sighs* unfortunately, it's time for us to depart. We must report back to our superiors and inform them of all we've discovered. We look forward to future contact with both the Membrane and Husk peoples. Padme' looks one last time, to her companions. Hopefully, we will always have such pleasant relationship's with both the Husk and Membranes. However, I myself, do need to excuse myself, as I must make preparations to leave. Padme' bows and leaves when excused by the council.

epilogue:
Padme' waits outside the main temple that housed the most elevated for her crew. I hope, you all know what you're doing... Padme' murmurs as they return. Instead of journeying to the Husk enclave directly, Padme orders the crew to return to the ship directly, before engaging with the Husk. She ask Naboh to fashion one or two evaporators, to offer as gifts to the Husk. She sends, Twik, Naboh, and Id-Sintis as emissaries while the remainder of the crew preps for take-off.

When the crew returns, Padme' again insist that everything done be included within' the ship's and mission log. On the journey home Padme' records a personal log, This is Captain Padme' Amadala of the Starfinder Craft Pegasus. We have are returning from the planet Elytrio. Our mission has been largely a success. We have discovered a new civilization and established friendly contact. However, some of my crew-members have chosen to reveal some ancient secretes of two distinct cultures past to their leaders. This choice of theirs is, consistent with the Starfinder standards, in that each individual made the choice they felt best. However, I believe this to be a fundamentally flawed standard. I myself felt that, each of the respective cultures discovered on Elytrio was entitled to know the truth of their past. However, I did realize that my own life experiences and cultural history created bias in my decision making process. Also that, both my mission and life experience, did not qualify me to make over-arching decisions that, could effect the direction of entire societies for generations to come. Therefore, I want it noted: I advised my crew of my reservations of informing the Ghibranis of their past. I also want to record that, I believe the policy of allowing low ranking, and even trainee members of Starfinder Society decision making powers that could potentially alter the coarse of hundreds of thousands or even millions of lives is fundamentally flawed and needs to be reviewed. Simply put..what restrictions could we possible have on ourselves? When Jr. members can make world alter decisions?

Alrighty, as we're looking to wrap things up, I'll post up a summarized conclusion. The membranes won't leave the city and the husks won't go into the city, so logistically the two won't come together to be informed at the same time. It's not due to animosity...it's just that both sides do not see any reason to leave/enter the city.

Speaking before the Most Elevated, your party describes the events of your trip into the Mainframe. First about the drone garage, then about the robot defenses, next about the power generator and repairs performed, then finally the truth of their history. The council expresses sincere thanks for the party repairing the generator and they are surprised to learn of the actions of their ancestors. However, as they are quite comfortable, they see no reason to change the way they currently live and posit that the husks probably feel the same way. They vow to uphold the tradition of keeping the Mainframe area taboo. When Klarima escorts the party back to the force field to open an exit for you, she seems a bit distracted. Her last words to you are, “You have given me much to think about, new friends.”

Naboh puts together some evaporators and the party sets out to the husk enclave. There, you communicate the information you've learned. Alomir and Koseemo are understandably upset to hear that their religion is fictional. While the husks are not upset with your party as you are only the messenger, they ask to be left alone to process this information. Dystane is the most visibly angry at the revelation and during the meeting, she walks off with her hunters to begin taking stock of their weapons. As for the evaporators, they had initially turned it down but after the party informed them of their true history, they gratefully accept the gift.

Back at the Lorespire Complex, you brief Venture Captain Arvin on the events you experienced and pass the data retrieved from the ghibranis mainframe. He says, "I applaud your success in developing positive first contact relationships with both the husks and the membranes! You also did very well in retrieving this archive of ghibrani history! As for your decision to inform both groups of their 'complicated' history, I appreciate that you made a decision and acted upon what you learned. After all, this was an exploratory mission where you, as Starfinder field agents, were fully empowered to make any decision in the field as you see fit. I cannot say whether there was a right or wrong choice here but I'll pass urgent word that the Society should keep a close eye on further developments on Elytrio. Get some rest, agents. You deserve it."

I get the feeling the Ghibrani story line will continue in future scenarios!!! I'll work on the chronicles right now and post an update in the discussion thread when they're ready.
