Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Hey everyone, go ahead and drop in. Those of you who aren't completely done with characters please finish that up, tell me when you are, and the rest of you... feel free to shoot me a suggestion for your DM Boon.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Paladin (Divine Hunter) 1

Checking in. I'll think about the mechanics for the boon, but offhand I guess the hat would be a good item (since it is ever so popular, and beautiful to boot). I'll finish off my items tonight.

Edit: Also, a slight avatar change seemed appropriate for some reason.

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

Oh my goodness, that avatar! I love it! *giggles*

I must say that I am extremely excited to be in party with a paladin via pbp. I don't see too many submissions of them, and that is a shame.

Question before I buy equipment, is the DM boon something that comes for free? If it is, I would like a magical mystical harrow deck. I know that the sorcerer does not have much to purchase, but 100 gold for essentially a fluff item is pretty steep. Or actually, not a fluff item as it will be a focus for important divination spells later on, but, yeah, steep.

Male Half Elf Barbarian 1

Well im pretty sure my character is done if im missing anything please tell me, all I bought for Vulf was double bladed sword and suit of leather didnt have much money left after so ill check it out.

About the boon? I have no idea what it could be or what it is lol

Male Huaman (Chelaxian) Bard 1

I need to transfer florin from HL to my alias and buy misc gear but otherwise I’m all good.

And may I say well done to all of us and thanks to the GM for the selection. so I guess I need to catch up on some RP.

Resources:
1st Level Spells - 2/3 Summon Monster 1 - 4/4
Summoner 2 (HP 21/22; AC:20/16, T:12, FF:14; Fort:+2 Ref:+2 Will:+3; Init+4; Perception -1)
Conditions:
Shield.

Oh gods, that hat. Rohan is done as he can be, unless someone has suggestion for any changes. I was going to have Copper specialize in social and stealth skills for his evolutions, but I am open to ideas. For boons, I have no idea what would be appropriate so I'm leaving that up to you. Maybe something related to my draconic heritage or something.

Yes, now the real challenge begins - determining who among the high charisma characters in the group is "Leader" and "face." Zelvaria has no social skills, but she is curious about a lot of things.

I am interested to see how a Chelish noble with Wis 7 will be played in party with a goodly and sheltered support sorceress.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Paladin (Divine Hunter) 1

Nawp, doncha worry 'bout that none. Ye've got a paladin here to shelter you with Old Deadeye's shieldin'. And stuff.

Still working on the accent, but I think that I'll keep it for now. Also, I'm pretty sure (now that I think about it) that the avatar is Jarlaxle disguised as a human, now that I think about it. This explains the most ridicu... awesome hat on the avatar.

Copper raises his claw. "Pick me, pick me!"

In all seriousness though, anyone of us can be the face in the party, at least mechanically. Personality wise, I can see either Markullus or Florin being the face, though the idea of having this tiny dragon speaking for the group would be hilarious. But I'm ok with whatever we decide.

Male Dwarf Cleric1

Thanks for the pick! I'll re-roll Dorrak with appropriate point buy, rearrange traits and such. Should have everything in order later tonight.

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

Yay, I've always wanted to see a cleric of Torag in play. He seems like even more of a no-nonsense deity than Erastil. Also, a paladin of Erastil has always seemed to me the type who would do everything to keep a party balanced and effective.

In general, I am interested in seeing how my concept is affected by the strong lawful personalities. Very much looking foreword to gaming with all of you.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

OK, lemme see...

Rohan: You seem to be going DD, and pushing the draconic heritage angle, so...

Draconic Blood: Rohans draconic bond is powerful, and he gains the bloodline powers of the draconic bloodline of sorcerers, usable at half the time alloted, or amount of uses per day.

We'll probably have to work on that... for certain things, but that's ok.

Fancy Hat: This hat is so eye catching it ocassionally hurts. Once per day, as a swift action, Markellus may throw it into the air, distracting all enemies around. This effects all enemies within 30 ft with one of two effects. AC: Lowers all creatures ACs by 1 for one round. Attack: Lowers all creature's attack bonuses by 1 for one round. Alternatively, he can throw the hat directly at a creature to force it to make a concentration check as if attacked with a hit for 1 damage. This uses the hat for the day. The hat may have further uses Markellus hasn't uncovered.

I'll have more later, for other chars.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Paladin (Divine Hunter) 1

Truly, it is a most excellent hat.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

BTW: I'm sure these don't seem too good. They're not... but they get better with level. I promise.

Sounds good for me. Getting a jump start on my draconic bloodline powers is not bad. And the fancy hat sounds awesome.

Male Half Elf Barbarian 1

Nice ryuko! ANd I look forward to gaming with all you folks was fun for the people that were roleplaying earlier but will be more so when we get serious :)

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

I feel kinda bad that people are upset the didn't get picked. I know on paper that a girl who is a pretty pretty princess and can use innate magics seems like a "Sue" and didn't wish to leave it at that impression, because I put effort into creating characters one line after a semicolon can't really express.

I have to give it to you GMs, really, how you can take just a stat block and a few words and say "that, that will fit my vision of my campaign" is beyond my fledgling GM abilities.

I would ignore them if I were you. While I understand that it sucks to not get into a PBP, as someone who's been rejected more than a few times myself. Getting mad that people got in because they actually put in effort is kinda juvenile and silly.

Male Half Elf Barbarian 1

Yeah i find it slightly insulting that some people were complaining about how they didnt get picked cause they didnt roleplay, way I thought of it was we took the effort to expand the character and roleplay them but thats just me

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

Tbh, I had Vulf and Rohan near guaranteed from the start. Both were great concepts. I thought the angel girl would be good but.. something bugged me about the way she wrote. And well... I have a soft spot for pallies, and men with big hats. You were a go from post 1. Only one who purely sold me through rp was zelaria, who seemed super bland until I got into it.

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

Thanks for your honesty. Is there anything I can change mechanically or otherwise that might improve her beige appearance?

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10
Zelaria Quiatris wrote:

It won't be an issue, every character becomes amazing when played well, nd you are an excellent writer so far. Working on your boon now.

Female Tian Rogue

to those who made it into the PBP, you have my congratulations.

my writing style can be a little unsettling, and i know that the little angel girl i was proposing would have sounded extremely Sue-ish to most. but that was the point of her concept.

Male Half Elf Barbarian 1

Aw thanks ryuko Vulf was a character that I based off the woodelves in warhammer fantasy, I mixed in a few tribal customs, Aborigine, Maori, and a couple native American tribes namely the sioux, and Cherokee so all together kinda proud of him but was worried I was too....well out there? so was worried I wouldnt be picked but ty for the compliment.

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

I am looking foreword to exploring the clan angle. When I was researching my Varisian bard more, I read the article in... think it was the Crimson Throne series. Seems to me that the Varisians and their clan elders have a selective breeding program going on. Of course, that is subject to my interpretation. But it was just odd that a people who flit from place to place like butterflies or moths, like their goddess, would hold the institution of marriage and family so sacred. The Kapenia, too, is supposed to show the history of their people.

Could be that I read Frank Herbert's Dune once too many times in my adolescence, but it is redolent of the Bene Gesserit's quest for the Kwisatz Haderach. My interpretation was the inspiration for Zelaria. My sorceress has a built in wierding module :D

Male Half Elf Barbarian 1

@ Aria haha nice well what caught my eye about your character Aria was you picked dreamspun,(plus you totally had my character fascinated with openess of romance angle something I dint think this character would have.) you don't really see characters that aren't totally designed for combat, I think most often sorcerer used is draconic just to get that prestige class so any other bloodline is already one up in my book lol

@ Ryuko ARRRG! I feel like a kid in the couple of days before christmas seeing the present but not being able to open it lol you like to draw in your characters don't you ryuko lol

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

Yeah, blame that on my new, inner GM. and when I build intuitive characters, I make them intuitive. Like, here I have this sense motive score, it's not great but if I am just walking around, it's going to be better than others.

Also, I hold myself as a player to a fairly high standard if I call myself good. Seeing another suffer because of racism isn't something that Zelaria could ignore. The "romance" or crushing on Vulf was a side effect of meeting someone in a similar situation. Even though it was among her goals to progress to a point where she could trust someone enough to love them, I certainly wasn't intending for things to develop as they have.

Male Half Elf Barbarian 1

so i just realized something....im missing 2 points from my character....5 points for str 5 in dex then +2 from half elf then 3 on cha anyone gave suggestion for where to put them?

-

Hey, don't bad mouth the draconic bloodline. Some of us are original even while using it. :)

Male Human (Chelaxian) Paladin (Divine Hunter) 1

Personally, I'd recommend Con. Get some extra HP, and another round of Rage each day.

On sorcerer bloodlines: I actually hadn't even thought about it--usually my sorcs don't seem to fit that well with the Draconic bloodline conceptually. I might have to make one now though, for fun and profit.

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

Extra constitution is always good. Be daring, bump that 10 up to 12. :)

Male Half Elf Barbarian 1

ok 12 con now ty for posts

@ rohan hey im not one to talk fav bloodline is elemental wildblood archtype primal makes you able to change any energy spelll to your energy type and you deal +1 dmg per damage die rolled soo :) i just love thought of burning hands as now shards of ice going every where plus scorching ray is now freezing ray mwahahah!

Male Huaman (Chelaxian) Bard 1

Wow epic Storm last night so had to shut my box down. Otherwise I’d have been more involved.

Zelaria wrote:

Well I was going to play it straight and let others be his comic foil (fencing pun!) in my head I see him as being quite naïve and arrogant. I want it to be an emotional growing experience from why the hell should I care about these peasants to NOOO! Pit Fiend get away from my friends. I was probably going to avoid the “I’m not sleeping on the ground it’s dirty.” Stereotype. As for Wis 7 should be fun I was going to manifest that with him being fearful in combat and talking “at” people rather than “to” them. But it’s possible that we get into a few scrapes due to his lack of foresight. As for the leader Florin would see it as his job due to his station in life (that’s not to say he should be it but that’s just how he would see it).

I think that Florin will get on with Markellus and Dorrak initially “Men of the cloth should always be respected.” as for Vulf and Zelaria he is more likely to be distrustful and speak down to you as “Oh you’re one of those people…hmm.” And so Rohan, Florin probably feels fairly neutral towards you but might ask questions about Hermea. But I can’t say for sure because we haven’t met yet First impressions are everything.

Male Dwarf Cleric1

I'm having a really hard time with the campaign trait selection. Ryuko, can I select something from Dwarves of Golarion book or are you firm on the 1 campaign trait from ROTRL book?

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1
Florin De Poisse wrote:

*shock and awe*

I must needs prepare my pillow to receive many tears.

*laughs*

This is my very first sorcerer. My two favorite classes are bard and cleric, both in support capacities. I was really upset when cloistered came out and how it's been so nerfed compared to the 3.5 priest variant. One domain and less spells? It's crap!

Male Half Elf Barbarian 1

@ Florin and Vulf responds with "oh your one of those people" and proceeds to push him off a cliff :) YAY friction in a group Aria your probably going to play mediator once in a while.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

I giggled for a good five minutes at "I must prepare my pillow to recieve many tears." I'll admit I picked up Florin mostly because I had a lot of rough and ready types.

Anyway...

Harrow Deck of Fate: This deck has been passed through Zelaria's family for many decades and has served each well. By performing a short Harrow reading it will allow Zelaria to cast Augury as a 5th level caster. This ability works twice per day. The deck likely has other abilities unknown to Zelaria.

Dance of the Ancestors: Vulf has not mastered the dances of his people, but does know the one required to call upon his ancestors in battle. Once per day, by concentrating and using his dance steps in conjunction with his attack, Vulf may add his Perform (Dance) check to his attack and damage rolls, or add his attack bonus to his Perform (Dance) check.

I dunno... that seems a little overpowered later... any thoughts?

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

I would assume a noble scion would have been instructed to deal with peasants in a more... diplomatic fashion than to inspire enmity in the group. While he may give the impression of being... well, not too friendly, I don't think that he would be donning his top-hat and monocle and slurping Earl Grey while the great unwashed throw ourselves about in some floor show for his amusement like the tribal dances in King Kong.

It should be cool. We have a paladin. And nothing inspires goodness and party unity and awe like a paladin.

@ Ryuko: augury is amazing! well... not really, but neither is it game breaking. Thanks!

Male Half Elf Barbarian 1

well neither of my classes give it as a class skill and I have too many plans for my feats so there is that but if you guys think its a little too much np :) but ty though for the thought into backstory

1. maybe if was only to the attack rolls

2. I dont think id be able to use it while raging because can't concentrate on something in raging state

3. I assume it would only apply to one of my attacks? cause while id love any help to get my full round attack to hit up hehe

Male Half-Elf Wizard 5

Vulf's combat option seems a little overpowered (said the man who will be smiting >.>). Maybe change it from a dance check to his ranks in Perform (Dance)? That way, it scales with level still, and at the same rate as his bonus to Perform (Dance).

Edit: Gah! Barbarian post ninja!

This is a good point. I'll go with that. I like to hand craft these and sometimes they're just badly thought out. To be clear, I'm being nice here, if someone starts abusing thier gift of a DM boon, it will be taken away. I'm a nice guy, and I like helping characters be more different, so I do this.

@Vulf: Yes, it would be to one attack. I'd allow you to choose which though, so if you wanted help on your second attacks you could.

Dorrak wrote:

Well it's more a campaign feat, but if you absolutely can't find anything you want, feel free to take some form of background feat. Avoid taking anything that doesn't contribute to your character. (Skill Focus is good, Weapon Focus isn't. Breadth of Experience is good, Still Spell isn't.) Basically something either very minor, or very flavorful, instead of a very good combat option.

Male Human Super Cruel DM 10

For Dorrak

Earthen Affinity: Once per day, as part of Dorrak's positive energy channeling, he may add the effects of Earth Channelling (From APG)

This essentially means when you channel to help living creatures you also add DR equal to half your cleric level for your cleric level of rounds. When you channel to harm undead, all terrain in your channel counts as difficult terrain for your cleric level in rounds. Sound good?

Florin... I'm having trouble with yours. Any thoughts?

Male Half Elf Barbarian 1

@ Dorrack improved stone sense Dorrack?

Ty again ryuko i feel better with the rank thing as well, even though i planned on spending a point there every level anyways now I have even more reason 2 lol

Male Huaman (Chelaxian) Bard 1

I too am dubious about using skill checks as attack rolls (see Star Wars D20 Jedi) Id use it like a momentum thing. Like or combined with classic cleave or similar.
Suggestion: Entering into a trance like state the war dancer innately seeks out his next target, using the flow of the dance to direct his attacks. After activating this ability a successful hit deals +1 sacred bonus to damage and each subsequent hit adds +1 to damage up to max of +3 this increases to +5 at 4th lvl and +2 every 4 levels thereafter. It’s a rough idea and needs tweaking but it would be my suggestion
Or perhaps something to do with the reach of his weapon.

I saw the De Poisse family as land owners and so need to be less diplomatic as the “peasants” work for them and “you people” refers probably more specifically to travellers. Either way I want it to ad controversy without becoming a party breaker. I’ll try my best not to be a complete tool! At least till after I’ve gotten to know you.

EDIT: Wow fast posting

Male Human (Chelaxian) Paladin (Divine Hunter) 1

Maybe up it to the total dance modifier then for Vulf? Or just make it equal to his current Character level. *shrug* Not sure what's best for scaling.

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

Okay. Is good to have an OOC thread to get all this sorta stuff out of the way now, and not be left to guess in the thread itself whether or not the fingers on the keyboard are really spelling out choice four letter words because you find our characters beneath you.

I am cool with being a mediator. And as the only female in the group, I suppose it will be expected to have to intervene with some estrogen when the testosterone levels threaten to achieve critical mass.

Male Half Elf Barbarian 1

whole plan for the character is to hit multiple times but not exactly hit very hard death by thousand razor cuts is something I wanted to dabble in, hence dodge, mobility, sidestep, wind stance

either way now im excited!! lol

@ Aria lol nice

Male Human Chef/3 Toy Shop Bod/2 Supervisor/1

“Don’t you know who I am?” by either using witty repartee or sheer bluster Florin is able to talk his way out of or into anything. (I see it useful for acquisitions or for confusing would-be attackers. quite subjective and don’t know mechanically how it would work but something on those lines)
Or
Lucky. some kind of re-roll
Or
Well connected. Network of informants
Or
Just re-instate my bardic knowledge

Hope that gives you some ideas

Female Human Oracle (Heavens Mystery)/1

+1 for reinstating bardic knowledge. I dabbled in a Court Bard for a while, and man, not having that is a greater sacrifice than you'd imagine.
