Rue and Ruin: A Simple Job

Game Master Aebliss

A simple escort job; bring a merchant from point A to point B with his person and cargo intact.... in spite of having to travel through the badlands of the ancient, moonless and dying world of Rue, which revolves around its red and flickering sun.

Well first off, thank you very much for picking me, I hope you find be as interesting as I hope to be :-) I'll go read the gameplay section post-haste.

Male Old Tiefling Wizard 1

Aye, and I thank you for giving Menra the chance to spread a bit of magic into the hopeless world of Rue. It's going to be a very interesting journey for us all.

Interesting? We shall together weave such a tale the bards shall sing it until the end of song--should we not live to see such ourselves!

"It appears that you lot all have the honour of assisting us in the restoration of the elven kingdom of Aerisael. You may also assist us in our quest to locate to stasis pods of our royal brethren. Congratulations."

Male DM DM 10

Well, don't be shy. Gameplay is open. ^_^

Female Fetchling Medium/1

I suppose now would be a good time to ask: what would I have needed to do in order to craft a focus for the Champion spirit, monetarily and otherwise? Is there an ancient colosseum, barracks, or the like that I could have gotten material from to make one of the models you mentioned or something like a medalion?

Male DM DM 10

You would need masterwork crafting tools and the appropriate skill to use them.
You could probably substitute a stone from the Trial Pit; Theviss has one of those. Sometimes criminals are allowed to appeal against their sentence by trial of combat against other prisoners, savage beasts, or professional fighters.

Female Fetchling Medium/1

Ok, sounds good then. Keska has the 50cr (units of credit abbreviation?) for a set of masterwork tools, so she would have picked those up and found either a stone or something sufficiently morbid (sufficiently intact hip joint? :-P) and carve a small representation of the Trial Pit with her Craft: Sculpture skill. Or she could have channeled a Trickster that day to get a different, more appropriate craft skill and bought a different tool instead, if you prefer.

Male DM DM 10

I'd prefer you craft your fetishes without spirits' help. After all, if you're invested with one while crafting, the item would be partially their work, not solely yours, and the connection would become .... skewed.

Craft (sculpture) works just fine, stone and bone. ^_^

Female Fetchling Medium/1

Sounds good then, thank you very much GM :-) since there's no additional cost to crafting the foci, would I be able to also make a connection with the Heirophant with something from a temple of Laelae, just in case?

And I apologize for the innundation of questions, I'm just wanting to be sure I'm doing everything right by you :-)

Male DM DM 10

Well, we can't make it too easy, can we? ;)
No additional costs.... but the focus items degrade with each use, obliging you to make new ones. Let's say each focus item has 1d6 hp at creation. You roll the hp every time you craft a focus, and subtract one hp for every use. Once a focus' hp reaches zero, it is destroyed, and you have to replace it.

Checking in. Glad to be a part of this game.

Female Fetchling Medium/1

Sounds fair :-)

Heirophant Focus: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Champion Focus: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Oof. Well, hopefully we only need the heirophant once or not at all on the journey :-P

Male Old Tiefling Wizard 1

That will likely take a moment until Quoth can tell me how much or even if Menra knows anything about your story.

Not that I think it's necessary with having already posted in the gameplay thread, but checking in.

Male Old Tiefling Wizard 1

Reading the description of Video leads me to picture him as Iorveth from the Witcher series for some reason.

I assume you mean Virro, but autocorrect had other ideas. (That's why I turned mine off.)

Either way, not intentional. I've never played the Witcher, so never heard of the character until I just looked him up. Might have some similarities, but looking at the wiki, my first thought is Virro doesn't despise any particular sapient race. What's the point? We're all dead anyways.

Male Old Tiefling Wizard 1

Whoops, yep.

I mainly meant in the way they look, being marred and blemished elves.

Male Elf Wizard 1 | Neutral | Hitpoints 8/8 | Armour Class 13[17] Touch 13 Flat Footed 10[14] CMD 12 | Fortitude +2 Reflex +3 Will +3 | Perception +4 Initiative +10 |

It seems we both dislike necromancy and enchantment but at least the similarities end there. Different focus school and different bond and different spell choices. This should be fun wizarding together.

Male DM DM 10

I certainly hope so. ^_^

Male Old Tiefling Wizard 1

Necromancy is a terrible practice, and enchantment is but only onr means to an end! But year, we otherwise seem like very different types of wizards, and Menra no less looks forward to learning what he can of watching his own spellwork.

GM, was I able to recall any knowledge about Lord Brycen and his people with a 20 on history?

Male DM DM 10

Ah, I knew I forgot something....

Alas, the answer is no.

Male Old Tiefling Wizard 1

Whell, I guess his kingdom is just far too old to know about these days. Least in a simple library such as his.

Male DM DM 10

*twiddles thumbs*

*smiles*

Male Old Tiefling Wizard 1

Pretty mediocre rolls for me aside from that lone crit. Ain't that just? XP

So, I take it this'll be a theatre of the mind style combat without miniatures? Not complaining, and apologies if you explained that somewhere and I missed it. Just curious. It may affect my build choices in the future.

We're just getting the bad rolls out first, right? And they rolled badly on their saves... :D

Yup, it's a theater of the mind. ^^; I am not skilled in the making of maps. No apologies needed on your part, I assure you!

Here's hoping. ;)

Male Old Tiefling Wizard 1

Did that trigger an AOO or was it a withdraw?

The one moving towards the other Falanx? I'm gonna give you the AoO.

Male Old Tiefling Wizard 1

Bad dice, bad

We're just waiting on Keska now?

Male DM DM 10

Yup. I think i'll set up a houserule: if a player falls silent for a week in combat situation, they get botted. Fair? ^_^

For combat, a week is a long time to wait. I'd say three days would be fair during combat, but if we're going for a slower pace a week works.

Male Old Tiefling Wizard 1

I gave her player a message to remind them, they'd been pretty busy so may not've noticed.

Female Fetchling Medium/1

Sorry about that! Between Disney and work I just lost track of my PbPs. I'm back now though, shouldn't disappear again any time soon!

Wad there any seating inside the house, lounge chairs or otherwise?

Plenty!

Wonderful news

Hmmmm... I wonder if it's a good thing or a bad that Grimdell is missing out on all these spoilers. :D

Male Old Tiefling Wizard 1

It's certainly a thing.

DM, Seril:
Is there a way to try and make sense of Vexat's words, or is this all left to our interpretation?

Male DM DM 10

Menra, Serill:

*smiles* :)
Jack, be clever.
Jack, be quick.
Jack, jump over the candlestick.

Just to clarify, I'm unable to act at the moment, still too drunk to move despite being... injured somehow? Making sure I'm not missing a cue to post.

You can still talk to Petty-Boon. ;)

Grimdell needs to wait for the next round to attack, correct?
